with private golds newest offering the inimitable cologne producer martin beume has really taken a huge and achingly beautiful step in his songwriting and production. some might know him from releases with connaiseur or brut! records, but this record is miles higher… wisps of detail adorn each song like edible gold flake on a luscious chocolate ganache cake. synths flutter and glide like summer butterflies and even the percussion is precious and clean. this is not to say it is only good for home listening. lead off track solid rubber has a tough and sexy deep house sway with echoes of brazilian bossa nova laid over its more traditionalist chicago house and jazz. lsdeep, has the full dirt stomp necessary for a forbidden tryst, but sneaks in smart samples and emotional filter washes to add unexpected depth. at 105bpm, you might not expect wip catch to fucking groooooove the way it does, but trust me kids, things are getting slower as we are getting older. and it feels great. soaring orchestral strings married with perfectly cut vocal samples are sure to get the more adventurous djs hypnotizing dancefloors like musical svengalis. and when you thought it was all over, axel boman turns in an amazing remix in his instantly recognizable non-traditional style. this dude is a lothario. all hip shake and cooing come-ons, its a reduced house gem that slinks its way into your pants.

barcelona-born rainer grew up in california, but it was his move to london in 2007 which led him to start collaborating with cesare vs disorder, playing out around town and beginning his production career with the popular >neuralgia< under his belt. the obvious next step for him was to hitch his wagon onto the well-traveled route onto berlin where he now presents his second release on cesares serialism records. >x-berg to san diego<, a production in conjunction with the labels head honcho, a paean to his newly adopted stomping ground and the town of his youth. a tough house beat leads with a funky guitar picking out groove along the way, an oscillating vocal hovering into earshot as old-school snares jack it up.

its fitting that this summer season sees months of culprit planning and scheming come to fruition. a relationship that began almost four years ago, between culprits la crew and parisian native shonky, has finally been realized, with the mercurial frenchman stepping up for his first full culprit release, >oasis<. shonky first ventured to la when droog hosted him on the now defunct terrace space at avalon in late 2007. since then he and culprit founders droog have become close cohorts, sharing the same musical wavelength, having playied together half-a-dozen times at locations ranging from miami, barcelona and los angeles. shonky was finally introduced on the label earlier this year, when he and dyed soundorom collaborated on a remix of lee foss >your turn girl<

tom giles previous twelve on modern soul saw him flex his muscles as a producer of sample-based wonky disco. this latest release, however, shows him stepping up to the challenge of crafting heavy boogie gems from scratch – with not a sample to be seen. the 12 inch kicks off with colour theory, a memorable mid-tempo number where crisp snares cracking between a lithe synth-line and a funk-bass backbone, featuring alex farrell of the london afrobeat collective on guitar. its a boogie daisy-cutter, packed, primed and ready for dropping on discerning dancefloors.

at the age of 43 holger czukay was working on a message for his fans. he kept it unreleased for 30 years. music is a miracle takes you on 18 minute time travel through holger’s own musical universe. he gives the listener the chance to become a part of his world of music giving sound examples of the following tracks: ode to perfume, fragrance, 2 bass shuffle, witches multiplication table which were released on the album >on the way to the peak of normal< in 1981. side b is an unreleased version of ode to perfume that was created in holgers home lab and in the can studio. his friend and producer conny plank helped him with a cheap korg vocoder and they recorded the music on one of the first 16-track recorders of mci.

for alec koone, the 20 year old, pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in new york at the time of his first release, >wander / wonder< is a coming of age album that sees him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with. in koone s own words: it s an open ended album, and i think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. it s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a bach cello suite, i see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. it s also an album that should be listened to loudly. wander / wonder is a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it s own making, balanced between the ecstatic wonder referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself, like shards of light flickering through a blanket of fog, and even though wander / wonder is undeniably an electronic album, it feels strangely organic, rooted in nature, synthetic textures and distorted voices harmonizing with an ever present oceanic shimmer. wander / wonder was written and produced by alec koone in new york and pennsylvania. mixed by alec koone and sam haar (member of blondes) in new york city.
