for the last 20 and something years. matt thibideau has been involved in making electronic music. in the mid 90s he dove into making ambient and techno music after experiencing some of canadas underground parties. this lead to several releases on blue recordings with matts moniker at the time - >altitude<. under this alias he produced several dub techno classics. but he stopped using it about 15 years ago to work with new german labels. we are happy that after making a comeback on labels like assemble music or helena. matt decided to open the new color series on vade mecum. which focuses on limited 10inch dub techno styled vinyl.

the release opens with ‘jacob’s dream’. fifteen minutes of release date: subtly modulating synth glitches. ethereal synth drones. sweeping atmospherics and dubby echoes creating a hypnotic. ever-unfolding composition.

only one month after the release of their first ep on mt on may 2018. vactrol park continue surprising. this time with a full lp in the shape of “music from the luminous void”.the album sees vp delve much deeper into more atmospheric realms. using modular synths and unexpected drum machine sequencing they leave the 4x4 beats behind in favor of off-world rhythms and ever growing bass.
..... starting with drops’s high frequency tension. laying on top of those heavy kick drums it keeps on growing and growing. from there it moves to the “end of the party” groove that is novikov’s notation. and its trippy monotonic rhythm. the a-side ends with the heavy sampled ambient track macbeth. bringing forward that mesmerizing flute solo by italian artist luca spagnoletti yet succeeding in avoiding the kitsch. and with a touch of class.
.....the b-side delves even deeper into ambience and atmospheric muzak. starting with bells. that features again spagnoletti on flute. then we get into the real gems of the album - anstruther and glove. the first is a pure trip into modular psychedelia and repetitive jazzy-like drum rhythms. creating tension right from the start and plays with it throughout the track before decaying slowly into glove. which is in sense both the catharsis and the decompression session of the album. like a 2018 version of vangelis. this track’s soundscape will keep you dreaming with your eyes closed long after the album ends.
arktapes whispers in its cuts from the southern american continent. fine spaced out and atmospheric jams. strongly grounded in deadly grooves. a sweeping homage to the roots of our music genre. with a taste for novelty.

after the extremely solid album of the romanian due earlier this year. cristi cons and vlad caia (sit) are coming up with a beautiful limited edition vinyl release on their new home label - sushitech. the original version of alternate is a warm and dreamy. atmospheric track that keeps pushing the boundaries of the modern romanian / berlin minimal house sound. on the flip uk legend and label veteran steve o sullivan takes things dubby and funky with his original strong trademark sound. as all other limited edition releases on the label this will probably be very much sought after - don t sleep.
solar phenomena are keeping up a busy and high quality release rate in 2018 with a fifth offering already. this one is a three tracker from stl. who already released his “if time would move backwards” ep on the label earlier in the year. the title track opens the account with blown out drums trudging along in ever changing patterns. swirling. lo-fi ambience adds scale to the track and encourages you to get lost in the middle of it all. “weed detective” is ten minutes of psyched-out and stripped back drum work at an inviting mid tempo. keys dance and heavily treated vocal sounds trip you out in slow motion. last of all. “scubbu babe” has finger clicks. bright and mild crazed keys and ad libbed vocal sounds all doing gymnastics round more of those trademark drums. once again. stl proves he operates in a world of his own.
cymawax is proud to present the work of the blood brothers (luca & ciaccia) sibling. inside outside ep is an expression of the brothers passion for modern dance-floor friendly dub sonorities. and an intriguing introduction to who they are musically. remixer marco bruno with his -dub vision- completes the record giving it a proper techno touch with a sick groove and stunning approach to these warm and hypnotizing atmospheres.

the next modern hypnosis sees the first official vinyl release from another channel. the young german producer jonas schachners (another channel) has been at the fore front of the new wave of ‘dub techno’ that has been lurking in the underground over the last few years. his dubbed out analog sound has left some accrediting his productions as ‘picking up where rhythm & sound left off’. his debut 12” gives us two very unique tracks. the a side ‘lord 35’ is an energetic synth driven tune which sitting at 135bpm. in a two-step style is made for the dance. the b side ‘corruption’ sees an international connection with the original composition created in germany by another channel. then the overdubbing of vocals supplied by ethiopian vocalist enushu taye (the black jesus experience) in her native amharic. recorded and mixed by mystik in his melbourne studio. the warm analog stabs and punchy bassline accompanied with enushu taye’s haunting vocals makes for a beautiful piece of music.
it s been around three years since jpattersson opened up a whole new horizon of formerly unheard possibilities between the worlds of dub and techno. a lot has been happening ever since. and that’s very noticeable on his second album. it still has all the signature elements of jpattersson: there s his dreamy. virtuous trumpet play and his witty vocals. there s his dubby delays and heavyweight beats which often line up in a downbeat rhythm. however. besides his fanfares there s now also many folks. many musical friends who contribute to the vibe of this album. there s a track with berlin mc longfingah. latin-flavoured rhythms from polish reggae and dancehall producer dreadsquad as well as a stylistically wide range of remixes that reflect the symbiotic cooperation and mutual inspiration of these last years.
yagyas rigning album from 2009 is the icelandic producer s most acclaimed dub. techno and minimal masterpiece. due to popular demand. delsin are now re-issuing it across three slabs of vinyl. previously only available as a double pack with eight tracks. the new re-mastered version features all 10 of the tracks from the original cd. gumundsson has been making music for years both solo and as part of the thule musik collective. he is an album specialist who has worked as yagya since 2002 and has put out six albums since then. they come on labels like force inc and sending orbs where rigning was first released and manage to be both absorbing and detailed yet suitable for relaxing background listening. his last two albums. sleepygirls (2014) and stars & dust (2016) appeared on delsin records. rigning is essentially one long track split into movements. it depicts a city sleeping as gentle rain falls and dubbed out grooves zone you out. yagyas style is always patient and slow burning. his grooves are long and drawn out and his pads reach up into the heavens. this whole album in coated in a warm fuzz and is a real comfort on dark. long. cold nights. as insular and melancholic as it is. there is also plenty of beauty in the melodies and delicate keys. from dark and gloomy to more optimistic and meditative. there is a sophistication throughout this always cinematic album that continues to make it stand out nearly a decade after it was first released.
dutch artist and producer ian mono presents his first release on his new label. straight up. no nonsense techno but with a slightly oblique edge that takes us over into dub and experimental territories from time to time. in oceans is a three track ep which covers echobound’s statement and ideals right from the start.
this time we present another story that has nothing to do with the main plot of the label. although it s somehow connected to it. let s say it harkens back to the very origins of the storyline. the white man delivers an obscure and introspective trip that was revealed to him after several months of obsessive and repeated nightmares. this strange phenomenon abruptly occurred when he found out about the existence of the starry wisdom and started to further investigate the fishy events that surrounded the sacrilegious worship.

!k7 are pleased to announce forest swords as the next curator of the ever essential dj-kicks series. following acclaimed albums on ninja tune and tri angle. soundtrack and installation work. and remixes of the likes of bjork. matthew barnes aka forest swords has curated a 25-track compilation that draws a line between past inspirations and his current peers. like much of his own output. his dj-kicks skirts around pristine electronics and embraces more organic textures: 80s post punk (anna domino. dead can dance). classic 90s british electronica (orbital. mira calix). and smokey digi-dub (rhythm & sound). all rub up alongside some of the most forward-facing producers working today (demdike stare. laurel halo. fis). the compilation sifts through rhythms. shifting speeds and emotions: from pop icon neneh cherrys primal thudding to the zombified throb of exclusive forest swords track crow via deena abdelwaheeds clattering deconstructions to the euphoric two-step of djrum. its a collection of tracks that feels as restlessly curious and weighty as barnes own work. the double vinyl release includes a download code.
eshu. the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm. joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album. senang. and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first. previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky. unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side. uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful. yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip. jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight. mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all. the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.
next up on baum is no other than mike schommer of deepchord fame who is back after a 15 year break. with a three track ep. his first release after his break was out on steve o sullivans mosaic records. and now his second one is released on baum records. mike s sound does not need any introduction. the music speaks for it self. but one thing to say. dub techno does not get any better than this!
‘family horror x good times’ is an extensive 15 tracks compilation. where the leipzig label reflects on an intense and impassioned decade. kann asked close friends and long time idols to play their part to the full to complete the third edition of the label’s family horror compilation series. the outcome is a clear snapshot of the musical inclinations of the three label founders. sevensol & map.ache (aka manamana) and bender. encapsulating an idiosyncratic. modern house sound that demands an emotional response. the compilation comes rounded off by a booklet of photographs from ria aka lux which just like the music captures some of the beautiful ‘good times’ from this very special period. this time on paper.

the resurgence of icelandic techno continues with the latest release on ae recordings. seeing bjarnar jonsson returning to his long standing ohm project alongside emergent talent kvadrant. the pair were last seen on kvadarant s kontakt label. and their production partnership is clearly still yielding quality. dubbed out techno in the finest scandinavian tradition. even if all the tracks are built with a steely techno focus to them. the synth work and sound design scattered throughout the tracks elevates this to a higher level. not least on the bubbling geisers of signal processing that course through the middle of grip.

bas amro’s “languor” shows that he. besides having an ear for reimagining classics. can also do his own .)
cyspe’s “reminisce” more than deserves the full b-side to close the ep off. a stunning 14 minute trip through the depths of what this incredibly talented producer has to offer!
somewhere between dub and space lies the work of unknown wonders. like the one created by normal stage. a1 starts like part of a typhoon taking everything in it’s path. the pounding sub will crunch the dancefloor vibeing towards the core of the nervous system. the tunnel is open: b1 will open a star gate through precise push and pull movements. there is light at the end. but the trip is long. it’s a time travel where senses are altered. b2 takes us back to the ground where it all started. heavy basslines and lush pads are chanting in celestial ambiance. the drum of earth is the heart of the dance. a ritual for all things normal.
second woman is the collaborative project featuring turk dietrich of belong and joshua eustis of telefon tel aviv. josh and turk have been friends for over 17 years. having met in new orleans in the late ’90s through mutual friend and future collaborator. charlie cooper. the duo have been working on music together on and o since that time. the concept of second woman began with the idea of taking tropes from footwork. dub. house. and techno. and twisting these ideas into something kaleidoscopically liberated from the grid. their work first materialized with two lp’s and an ep on john elliott and peter rehberg’s spectrum spools. second woman tweak the perception of time and space within the audio field into something asmr-inducing and ultimately satisfying to listen to. both josh and turk experience asmr in response to certain rhythms and sounds. and e ort was made to incorporate these triggers into the music. hopefully for other people to experience as well. with apart / instant. second woman present their signature sound as well as a new. more measured dimension to their work.
black vinyl! fluxions ripple effect is the film score for a non-existing motion picture. this 9-track album is the result of experimentation and the combination of the producer’s two most cherished art forms: electronic music and score music. ironically the two worlds rarely seem to meet. despite the fact that score music has adopted a looser form in order to better adapt to film accompaniment. bringing it closer to electronic music which attempts to contradict form or shed it altogether. fluxion felt the need to bring these two musical forms into dialogue with each other. lending structure to electronic and deconstructing score music to create a malleable and expressive hybrid. the albums production took two years from its original conception for the subliminal story to unfold into the completed product. fluxion wanted to say as much as possible through the music. leaving the visuals as a blank canvas for the listener to create their own story. in the end. the goal is to give each member of the audience a unique audiovisual experience based on their own perception and interpretation.

i hang waiting waiting what s next left for a task a task of which i know not i lay here motionless- awaiting what s due. accepting this uncertainty bound by a preexistence. this habit i was born to. as i wait. the boredom wraps- ahold of me. the suffering dissolves.
>this life< has been a title paolo rocco has been saving for the right moment. as his first ep on his own label. this record brings us back to the early morning after hour 90s rave days. inspired by 909 drum grooves. deep warm pads. and melancholic vox chops. this is paolos definition of house music. with his a2 >doors open< being a perfect opening track. jack wickham and okain remixes complimenting his originals. this record is already going down as timeless.
tiefenrausch returns with a various artist ep. gathering three unique dub techno musicians linked through deep chords and driving basslines. while biodub and upwellings already contributed their part to the label. the new member star dub joins in with his raw vision of dub techno.
torino label we play the music we love has already made a strong start with some immersive turns by trevor deep jr and rills. and now they provide a platform for italian duo luminer. -indaco- is a charged up dub techno excursion with crisp percussion to propel the classic chord shimmer that course through the centre of the track. -canadian- takes a deeper direction with a crafty tapestry of synth flares and a more understated rhythm section. hiver s reconstruction of -indaco- opts for a crooked electro foundation. nimble acid line and a shapeless swell of pad tones as the key ingredients. and then icelandic techno champ thor whips up a sharp-strutting dub techno variation of -canadian- that sits comfortably with the luminer tracks.
exos label x/oz continues to grow as a distinct voice in the world of minimal techno. this time around inviting russian producer nikita zabelin to explore his sound with a sizable ep of finely crafted techno and thought-provoking ambience. -confusion- is a consummate slice of hypnotic techno crackling with heavily processed energy. while -pluton- drifts into rich beatless territory. there s more experimental fare afoot with the fractured tumbles of -curtains-. but -trans siberian express- is on hand to lock things back into a sturdy rhythmic framework. exos also takes the time to remix -brooklyn train- into a noirish dub techno workout.

the bug goes head to head with burial for two bass-bin heaters that is flame 1. cementing the first release on his freshly formed label pressure. following on from the bug’s recent sidewinding 12 inches for ninja tune and a colossal album recorded with earth. fog / shrine is possibly kevin martin’s most soundsystem decimating collaboration yet. joining forces with the most elusive figure within the uk underground and hyperdub mainstay. burial. ‘fog’ rolls along at half-speed steppers tempo. submerged deep within the roots n future aesthetic of the bug’s signature beats. yet perfectly balanced by burial’s hollowed out and haunted night vision. ‘shrine’ delves deeper inwards with the beats slowed to a crawl. the bassline hanging heavy in an atmosphere thick with smoke. the vinyl comes in thick grey card discobag with download code included.
babe roots are a relatively young duo from turin. italy. making a unique brand of atmospheric. techno-infused dubwise. on our radar since their splendid debut 7 inch on rohs! records in early 2016. we are very pleased to invite them into the zamzam fold with two mesmerizing and contrasting tunes. * be still* is a deeply meditative yet driving dub techno trek in classic fashion. featuring rastaman kojo neatness intoning on righteous living. working the land. guarding the tongue. and avoiding babylonian schemes and traps laid by the wicked. maternal bass and shimmering reverbs envelop a heartbeat rhythm of kick. shaker and distant snares for a timeless vibe that shows mastery of the idiom while updating it for contemporary sound systems. * rawness* is an extraordinarily deep 140 journey that opens with rich pads and swirling atmospherics. creating a psychoactive ambience that builds into a steady kick. the full riddim hits and plunges us even deeper with restrained. syncopated drums and percussion. churning bass powers us through the dense. hallucinatory fog as tendrils of electricity probe and zap. and serrated snares cut through the tape haze and studio clouds in the last third. carving out a gorgeous edge between deep dubstep and dub techno. * rawness* hits all the marks and will find a home in a huge range of sets.
