conforce returns under his silent harbour guise this august with the ‘noctiluca’ mini lp. a six track collection set for release via copenhagen’s echocord. dutch producer boris bunnik has been releasing material under various guises over the past two decades such as conforce. versalife. hexagon. vernon felicity and of course silent harbour which he revisits here following 2015’s ‘hinterland’ on deep sound channel and the self-tilted inauguration of the project in 2012 on echocord. the beatless drones of ‘riparian’ open the package. perfectly setting the tone with murky bell like chimes. rumbling subs and splashes of white noise before title-track ‘noctiluca’ picks up the pace. tipping the focus over to bubbling dub echoes. glitched out. minute percussion and a sturdy muted kick to keep things driving. ‘dwelling’ is up next. featuring expansive. washed out synth textures. cavernous bass tones and modulating percussion throughout. leading on the b-side of the release is ‘peridinum’. employing classic dub techno tropes with an amalgamation of choppy stab sequences dynamically evolving over off-beat hats and a thunderous kick. ‘fusiformis’ strips things rhythmically whilst keeping the bubbling delays and expansive reverbs at it’s core before closing track ‘pelagia’ brings bright. resonant synth lines. delayed percussive hits and tension building synth bass into the limelight.
echocord’s echo echo sub-label continues with its third releases this august. courtesy of german producer and credo founder alex bau with his ‘zenstory’ ep. germany’s alex bau has been a prominent name on the underground dj circuit on his home turf. and further afield. for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like cocoon. clr. sleaze and of course his very own credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of kyle geiger. takkyu ishino and electric rescue onto the imprint also. here though we see bau joining the roster of echocord’s fledgling sub-label echo echo with a new four-track ep and taking the lead on the package is ‘clouds’ with pulsating low-end tones. hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. ‘contour’ follows. tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits. fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. the ‘prelude’ of ‘zenstory’ opens the flip side and as the name would suggest it’s a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building. expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick. stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

only one month after the release of their first ep on mt on may 2018. vactrol park continue surprising. this time with a full lp in the shape of “music from the luminous void”.the album sees vp delve much deeper into more atmospheric realms. using modular synths and unexpected drum machine sequencing they leave the 4x4 beats behind in favor of off-world rhythms and ever growing bass.
..... starting with drops’s high frequency tension. laying on top of those heavy kick drums it keeps on growing and growing. from there it moves to the “end of the party” groove that is novikov’s notation. and its trippy monotonic rhythm. the a-side ends with the heavy sampled ambient track macbeth. bringing forward that mesmerizing flute solo by italian artist luca spagnoletti yet succeeding in avoiding the kitsch. and with a touch of class.
.....the b-side delves even deeper into ambience and atmospheric muzak. starting with bells. that features again spagnoletti on flute. then we get into the real gems of the album - anstruther and glove. the first is a pure trip into modular psychedelia and repetitive jazzy-like drum rhythms. creating tension right from the start and plays with it throughout the track before decaying slowly into glove. which is in sense both the catharsis and the decompression session of the album. like a 2018 version of vangelis. this track’s soundscape will keep you dreaming with your eyes closed long after the album ends.
arktapes whispers in its cuts from the southern american continent. fine spaced out and atmospheric jams. strongly grounded in deadly grooves. a sweeping homage to the roots of our music genre. with a taste for novelty.

12" Vinyl UK11.06.18
after the extremely solid album of the romanian due earlier this year. cristi cons and vlad caia (sit) are coming up with a beautiful limited edition vinyl release on their new home label - sushitech. the original version of alternate is a warm and dreamy. atmospheric track that keeps pushing the boundaries of the modern romanian / berlin minimal house sound. on the flip uk legend and label veteran steve o sullivan takes things dubby and funky with his original strong trademark sound. as all other limited edition releases on the label this will probably be very much sought after - don t sleep.
solar phenomena are keeping up a busy and high quality release rate in 2018 with a fifth offering already. this one is a three tracker from stl. who already released his “if time would move backwards” ep on the label earlier in the year. the title track opens the account with blown out drums trudging along in ever changing patterns. swirling. lo-fi ambience adds scale to the track and encourages you to get lost in the middle of it all. “weed detective” is ten minutes of psyched-out and stripped back drum work at an inviting mid tempo. keys dance and heavily treated vocal sounds trip you out in slow motion. last of all. “scubbu babe” has finger clicks. bright and mild crazed keys and ad libbed vocal sounds all doing gymnastics round more of those trademark drums. once again. stl proves he operates in a world of his own.
cymawax is proud to present the work of the blood brothers (luca & ciaccia) sibling. inside outside ep is an expression of the brothers passion for modern dance-floor friendly dub sonorities. and an intriguing introduction to who they are musically. remixer marco bruno with his -dub vision- completes the record giving it a proper techno touch with a sick groove and stunning approach to these warm and hypnotizing atmospheres.
very limited repress! when two legends meet one of the most promising talents from the new generation. the result just could not be any better. for its fifth release. berg audio is proud to present >a different path<. an ep featuring two original tracks from the paris-based producer traumer accompanied by incredible remixes from delano smith & exos. must have!
the next modern hypnosis sees the first official vinyl release from another channel. the young german producer jonas schachners (another channel) has been at the fore front of the new wave of ‘dub techno’ that has been lurking in the underground over the last few years. his dubbed out analog sound has left some accrediting his productions as ‘picking up where rhythm & sound left off’. his debut 12” gives us two very unique tracks. the a side ‘lord 35’ is an energetic synth driven tune which sitting at 135bpm. in a two-step style is made for the dance. the b side ‘corruption’ sees an international connection with the original composition created in germany by another channel. then the overdubbing of vocals supplied by ethiopian vocalist enushu taye (the black jesus experience) in her native amharic. recorded and mixed by mystik in his melbourne studio. the warm analog stabs and punchy bassline accompanied with enushu taye’s haunting vocals makes for a beautiful piece of music.
it s been around three years since jpattersson opened up a whole new horizon of formerly unheard possibilities between the worlds of dub and techno. a lot has been happening ever since. and that’s very noticeable on his second album. it still has all the signature elements of jpattersson: there s his dreamy. virtuous trumpet play and his witty vocals. there s his dubby delays and heavyweight beats which often line up in a downbeat rhythm. however. besides his fanfares there s now also many folks. many musical friends who contribute to the vibe of this album. there s a track with berlin mc longfingah. latin-flavoured rhythms from polish reggae and dancehall producer dreadsquad as well as a stylistically wide range of remixes that reflect the symbiotic cooperation and mutual inspiration of these last years.
yagyas rigning album from 2009 is the icelandic producer s most acclaimed dub. techno and minimal masterpiece. due to popular demand. delsin are now re-issuing it across three slabs of vinyl. previously only available as a double pack with eight tracks. the new re-mastered version features all 10 of the tracks from the original cd. gumundsson has been making music for years both solo and as part of the thule musik collective. he is an album specialist who has worked as yagya since 2002 and has put out six albums since then. they come on labels like force inc and sending orbs where rigning was first released and manage to be both absorbing and detailed yet suitable for relaxing background listening. his last two albums. sleepygirls (2014) and stars & dust (2016) appeared on delsin records. rigning is essentially one long track split into movements. it depicts a city sleeping as gentle rain falls and dubbed out grooves zone you out. yagyas style is always patient and slow burning. his grooves are long and drawn out and his pads reach up into the heavens. this whole album in coated in a warm fuzz and is a real comfort on dark. long. cold nights. as insular and melancholic as it is. there is also plenty of beauty in the melodies and delicate keys. from dark and gloomy to more optimistic and meditative. there is a sophistication throughout this always cinematic album that continues to make it stand out nearly a decade after it was first released.
dutch artist and producer ian mono presents his first release on his new label. straight up. no nonsense techno but with a slightly oblique edge that takes us over into dub and experimental territories from time to time. in oceans is a three track ep which covers echobound’s statement and ideals right from the start.
this time we present another story that has nothing to do with the main plot of the label. although it s somehow connected to it. let s say it harkens back to the very origins of the storyline. the white man delivers an obscure and introspective trip that was revealed to him after several months of obsessive and repeated nightmares. this strange phenomenon abruptly occurred when he found out about the existence of the starry wisdom and started to further investigate the fishy events that surrounded the sacrilegious worship.
it’s a funny old world. and yet again. the black dog have provided the soundtrack. our fast-approaching dystopia has been envisioned and documented by the band for decades. now. the black dog’s two new albums. post - truth and black daisy wheel. translate their growing horror into some of their most accessible and impactful music. translating our manufactured reality into high energy dancefloor constructions on post -truth. and reflective ambient excursions on black daisy wheel. limited to 500 copies on 180 gram double vinyl.
the artist run gallery schloss. inhabiting the space of a defunct porsche repair shop in oslo. has birthed a record label under the same name. run by the visual artist ida ekblad and the dj/ producer karima furuseth. the first release is by londoner max fowler.who has a certain affinity for ageing samplers and dusty samples.the b-side features a remix by stockholm mainstay and. among other. the trilogy tapes-affiliate samo dj. mixed and mastered by matt karmil.
!k7 are pleased to announce forest swords as the next curator of the ever essential dj-kicks series. following acclaimed albums on ninja tune and tri angle. soundtrack and installation work. and remixes of the likes of bjork. matthew barnes aka forest swords has curated a 25-track compilation that draws a line between past inspirations and his current peers. like much of his own output. his dj-kicks skirts around pristine electronics and embraces more organic textures: 80s post punk (anna domino. dead can dance). classic 90s british electronica (orbital. mira calix). and smokey digi-dub (rhythm & sound). all rub up alongside some of the most forward-facing producers working today (demdike stare. laurel halo. fis). the compilation sifts through rhythms. shifting speeds and emotions: from pop icon neneh cherrys primal thudding to the zombified throb of exclusive forest swords track crow via deena abdelwaheeds clattering deconstructions to the euphoric two-step of djrum. its a collection of tracks that feels as restlessly curious and weighty as barnes own work. the double vinyl release includes a download code.
eshu. the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm. joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album. senang. and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first. previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky. unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side. uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful. yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip. jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight. mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all. the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.
next up on baum is no other than mike schommer of deepchord fame who is back after a 15 year break. with a three track ep. his first release after his break was out on steve o sullivans mosaic records. and now his second one is released on baum records. mike s sound does not need any introduction. the music speaks for it self. but one thing to say. dub techno does not get any better than this!
