2017 repress incoming - includes a code for download of the full album. condition is my drum and bass follow up to even if i originally wanted to make an album that was more dance floor influenced, to have a more light hearted approach, in some ways it has that, but i couldnt stop myself from making the deeper material, for years i have wrestled with the subtle side of drum and bass, my journey has been one that tries to attain the simple groove, to keep removing the layers of this music, this album is an expression of this, and how im still feeling the underdog waiting for the cycle. it came about as it always has and thats the way its supposed to, enjoyable and moving fast to discover the stillness.
essential repress coming in! the triple vinyl now contains a download code instead of cd.
calibre has gone through his hard drives, dat tapes and even mini discs to find more gems for *shelflife 3*. thirteen of his most requested unreleased productions from 1997 to 2013 are now released on 3x12 inch vinyl.
zeb wayne returns with a majestic and scintillating song titled ‘wulfman’, featuring a trio of top tier remixers including alva noto, calibre and radio slave. following the release of ‘float’ on rekids last year, ‘wulfman’ is a beautiful song that demonstrates how musically versed wayne is as a producer, blending a serene vocal by ziwi, with intricate sounds to create a truly beautiful song from start to finish. alva noto, who composed the film score for the revenant alongside ryuichi sakamoto, as well as being the co-founder of esteemed minimal imprint raster noton, is the first of three heavyweight remixers. the renowned german producer employs his signature elements of grit, static and glitch resulting in an inimitable melancholic cut. well respected for traversing numerous electronic music sub-genres, as evident in his recent album on craig richards’ the nothing special, calibre ups the energy in his remix using sultry synths, syncopated percussion and mesmerising effects. concluding the colossal package, rekids founder radio slave creates a club-ready reinterpretation of his own, complete with fine-tuned kicks, looped vocals and a heady bassline.
2017 repress incoming! the triple vinyl contains a download code for the full 13 track album.
“ok so this is my 7th album, it doesn’t feel like it but i don’t know what should ... the last dnb album i wrote from the ground up was overflow, so in between i released shelflife 2 a compilation of unreleased tracks, and shine a light my weird departure from everything, with even ifË. i was back on familiar ground, i employed my voice a few times, got emotional, forgot everything and turned the tempo up. i am always looking for the songwriter slant in dnb, to feel the blues in my music is important to me, it is a raw connection i never get tired of looking for. and to sing it means a lot to me. i have tried to cover my own long standing interests in a musical genre that was supposed to have died a long time ago. and so here it is, a collection of tunes i have put together for the purpose of moving some part of you that’s the same part of me.” - calibre 2010

as the dust begins to settle on one of his most significant and pivotal bodies of work to date - the critically acclaimed techno-focused “grow” released by craig richards on the nothing special - calibre returns to his own label signature for another fathomless lp exploration. laced and spaced with the precision balance of sounds, speeds and styles he’s known for, and predominantly characterised by his own lyrics and vocal textures, “the deep” once again reminds us of calibre’s singular status as an artist whose creations transcend time, tempo and territory. ranging from one of his most in-demand dubs “no one gets you” to poignant yearning introspection of tracks such as “better than me” and the rolling, jazzy broken beat summer serenade “lit”, “the deep” is yet another accomplished, alluring and truly unique pieces of work from one of electronic music’s most consistent and prolific artists.
“sometimes life can kick you in the nads”, says dominick martin (aka calibre). “when life does do that, i need to make music like this. with its tones of hope and gospel-level layers of self-recorded vocals. raw, uplifting, soulfull...” even to the most ardent of calibre follower, “grow” sounds like nothing else he’s done before. yet it’s not actually on the album it gave a name to. partly because its ultimately positive veneer (even though it was written in the midst of two toxic relationships - one personal, one with the bottle) doesn’t quite complement the deeper, more contemplative aesthetic of the album. but also because this is the start of a whole new story for calibre...
calibre’s new album “grow” for craig richard’s label the nothing special.
12 tracks pressed over 4 pieces of 12 inch 180 gram vinyl presented in gatefold sleeve.
all music written and produced by calibre. all artwork by craig richards.
