code 718 aka iconic nyc dj danny tenaglia dropped this e2-e4 riffing classic back in the mists of 1992. manuel göttsching s original track would have been a staple of nyc clubs back then and would have featured in the warm up sets of jocks like tenaglia who favoured the longer. deeper sets as well as on the play-lists of institutional night-spots such as the loft and the garage. the track s influence on a whole era of dj s and producers that followed is immeasurable and across 3 sublime mixes tenaglia distills the magic of the original into something totally nyc and club-friendly without losing any of the göttsching magic. even managing to sprinkle a little grace jones in the mix with her fabulous i floated on a cloud vocal sample liberally applied. equinox takes us on a trip that is emotive. uplifting and warm. this is how house music is meant to sound. respectfully steeped in what preceded it yet moving forward in a fresh direction. another example of how on the money strictly rhythm were in their early days. classic after classic rolled out of the labels offices and us. the record buying legions. were / are better off for it! this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster. featuring all 3 mixes. unedited. as per the original release way back when. do not sleep.
girlfriends and other machines is another distinctive work by mostly undiscovered berlin based artist rhytch displaying his unique dirty and soulful sound. the 6 track ep varies from edgy deep house to weirdo krautrock reminding one of the genreroots. while sounding like a legit fresh reinterpretation. the artists voice being revealed on most of the tracks is giving the listener a glimpse of who he is and adds some character traits to infamous rhytch. the ep gets completed by an outstanding marbod remix. which is going to make people snap with its flickering distorted 909 hats woven into one of his typical psychedelic housepads creating an irresistible groove and atmosphere. the ep being released on berlin underground imprint lofile records is a nice prospect of what is to expect of further releases and obviously a wise choice for label and artist which share the same hobbies - drinking and smoking.

having cemented a cult status in his hometown of glasgow through various anthems on dixon avenue basement jams. big miz returns to delivers some off kilter chi-house gems for dublin’s newly minted pear label.
after a lengthy hiatus. tuskegee music is back with a heavyweight release indeed: it features tracks written by detroit heavyweights seth troxler—under his young seth alias— and cult fxhe boss omar s. amazingly they were written 11 years ago and have been long forgotten until recently being unearthed. the first track here was inspired by a trip seth made to berlin’s club der visionaere in 2005. “it basically was me returning to detroit and telling omar about this crazy music i heard ricardo play during the day.” the result. ‘deep’(cdv 2006 mix). is a spine tingling atmospheric deep house track. the drums are lo-fi and loose. the bassline is a meandering thing that really sucks you in and soft. gentle toms tumble around the groove and encourage you to cut loose. then comes the experimental slow motion drum shuffle of ‘detroit after midnight’ which the pair made after “finding loads of weird records in his basement sampling them and making a classic mpc detroit cut.” it has the sounds of people talking as if coming from the room next door laid over a lazy and undulating bassline. and is brilliantly weird and sketchy. last of all. young seth goes solo on ‘luiza’s inferno’ five minutes of him jamming on omar’s ms20 with a warbling synth line coated in warm tape hiss and layers of dust. it’s a beatless piece that shows how inventive and ahead of his time troxler was even as a young man. this is a brilliantly unusual ep and another winner for seth troxler and the martinez brothers’ tuskegee label.

after launching into memory box with aplomb on the deadly acid stomp 12inch. robin ball steps up on the london-based imprint once again with the saucy tones of his latest four track ep. drop it down low and its accompanying dub mix are classy twists on the tech house formula that lean towards old-skool methods while keeping the sleaze factor ramped up high. remember takes a more tripped out tribal approach. with the vibes mix providing a more subtle twist to the warm. melodic undulations of the full fat version. it s an ep loaded with personality and flair for sophisticated dancefloors.
deep house doesn t get deeper than deep explorer. dubbyman s evergreen label transmitting out of spain. on this latest 12inch. allstarr motomusic makes a welcome return after the first volume of beauty & simplicty back in 2015. this time they re working in collaboration with vocalist sarignia bonfa and the results are stunning. burning (in my soul) is a gorgeous. dubbed out slice of deep house with a true midwest flavour. while el sonido deepex takes things into even more sultry territory. there s also space for downtempo reflection on space of life. but also watch out for the deadly remix of the whole hood in my house- by cvo.
