verdant recordings continues its quest to provide a space for lesser-known artists exploring the deepest pockets of electronic music. not least around the 4/4 axis. next up on the label is the first public appearance from interjection. a london-based artist who has been cooking up an immersive sound for some time. her blissful solitude is a smoky deep house cut that drifts through heavy clouds of pads. while common places drops some brittle electro rhythms into the mix without lifting the veil of ambience. radiating soul has an equally intricate set of rhythms at work. with extra notes of 303 sprinkled over the top. and her nocturnal note finishes the ep off with a shimmering trip out to complement the a1.
when commissioning remixes. the best labels think outside the box. that s exactly what firecracker s lindsay todd did when seeking out producers to rework tracks from linkwood s excellent expressions album. on this second 12- in an ongoing series. that faith has paid dividends. whereas the original version of ignorance is bliss was a warm. woozy. sun-kissed deep house affair. healing force project has reinvented it as a stargazing chunk of 21st century space jazz. complete with twinkling chords. low-slung double bass and reverb-laden drum solos. the musephased interpretation of love lost by kimochi label head area sticks closer to the ultra-deep. melancholic vibe of linkwood s original. but adds a frisson of excitement via bubbling. detroit-influenced electronics and hypnotic rhythms.

for the first in a series of reinterpretations of material from linkwood s superb expressions album. firecracker recordings has turned to chicago deep house veterans ghosts of the sky (aka perpetual rhythms chicagodeep and taelue). and fast-rising machine abusers nummer. the latter dive into an aquatic techno tip. turning the becalmed and melancholic love lost into a techno-tempo stroll through vintage carl craig chords. sweaty machine percussion. and yearning melodies. theres a warmer and heavier. if surprisingly stripped back. feel to ghosts of the sky s version of object. with spluttering electronics and sumptuous chords stretching out over a rich synth bassline and hissing. cymbal-heavy groove.

after first appearing on the label back in 2016. florence-based italo house stalwarts minimono return to vibraphone with another selection of illustrious dancefloor gems for subtler moments in the dance. oldest friend is an airy. dreamlike track laden with upper register chords. tones and fx pinging around in a reverie of deep house delight. while questions- gets locked into a loose. swinging groove with some mysterious pads swirling around the middle distance for added atmosphere. some day is a more rugged affair that bumps and wriggles in all the right places. while eleven days explores broken beat territory without losing the hazy atmosphere that permeates the ep.
for those that knoe delves deeper into the archives once more to repackage a bundle of hard to find cuts on vinyl that have been staple supplies in ben s record bag over the years. the early to mid 2000s was a period of minimal techno overload. finding quality house music then was a challenge compared to today. rather than follow the herd. some european producers took influence from the original minimal pioneers and fused those approaches with house music themes in order to push a unique sound of the era. they turned minimal on its head and gave took it in a different direction. canson from switzerland released a handful of records between 2002 and 2005 that were a prime example of this aesthetic. stripped back beats with syncopated melodies - perfect cuts for those early sets or hazy morning sessions. the three tracks featured on this compilation were originally released on two solo eps for canson: itsudemo and holiday plug in. both of which have claimed squatter s rights in my record bag for almost 15 years. i don t think i ve played one early slot or house set without one of them. this record is quite a personal one for me as it s a representation of my deeper sound as a dj. now the original records are a little hard to find so im so glad to share my choice picks of cansons material on a my label.

while ant plate has been insanely busy with a plethora of aliases on a multitude of labels recently. he s still found time to turn out some surefire heaters in the studio with long time sparring partner matt hunt. this release marks the first appearance of rhythm plate on vinyl only. but it s worth the wait. there s an epic scope to apathetic empathy. which features bashy 80s drum hits and squelchy bass front and centre. but soaring vocal licks and piano stabs that widen the track out beautifully. observed privacy is a more emotive cut laden with illustrious keys. abuser experience is a bright and bashy deep house belter and prototype night takes things down a slinky. acid-speckled route. rhythm plate still serving up the house music realness after nearly 20 years.

milanese pair francesco mingrino and marcello carozzi have already asserted themselves in the field of adventurous disco experimentation via two sterling outings on the highly rated bordello a parigi. and now they prove their calibre once again with an ep on the ever-vital tusk wax. there s a delicate tone to younger than me on this record. from the heartstring tugging melodics of easy rolling acid throbber -mubai garden tea- to the subtle synth pop touches of -arizona dream.- -manchester s teen- is a tougher affair with the kind of slow filter sweeping lead hook that rave dreams are made of. while -near to bali- finishes the ep on an ominous beatless note. zombies in miami turn in a remix of -mubai garden tea- that maintains the romantic mood of the original while injecting a little more dancefloor heat into its bones.
