in late 2017. thomas gandey and danny mclewin - known from the popular disco-influenced electronic music collective psychemagik - emerged from their studio in bordeaux. france. claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement. both entitled. and containing the sounds of. the shakuhachi. furthermore. they insisted. for the purposes of this production. and a further album of related arrangements to be released subsequently in conjunction with the successful german record label kompakt. they should be referred to henceforth as ghost vision. shortly thereafter. the audio recordings described by gandey and mclewin came into the possession of noted los angeles degenerate. dj and nymphomaniac citation needed dirty dave. who was quick to relay the hallucinatory qualities of the duo’s productions to fellow dj and trusted hallucinogenic expert paramida. of esteemed german musical imprint love on the rocks. paramida. recognising the innate quality of the sounds presented to her. decided that such recordings warranted immediate release through her audio distribution channel. and not without remixes. quite without thinking of the origins of the instrument which had given the recording its particular sonic distinguishment. and of course. its title. she enlisted the help of two musicians named alex - one from tokyo. and one from kyoto. both alex from tokyo - teaming up with his colleagues isao kumano & kenichi takagi as tokyo black star. known for their prior releases on popular german label innervisions - and his counterpart. alex from kyoto. better known as al kassian. rising tamagotchi on paramidas love on the rocks imprint. and his own label. planet sundae - turned in striking reinterpretations of gandey and mclewin’s composition.
chris schwarzwalder strikes again for denature records. this time with a 5 tracks ep: catjammer. the track of the same name as well as -slow down- produced with feathered sun lead singer jo.ke have this unique slow and melancholic groove. on the other side setup and the list will take you to darker and hypnotic places. the ep ends with leaves which sounds like an invitation to an endless ballad into the sunset.

tartelet records is 10. to celebrate a decade in the cut. they re out a home run of new material from label mainstays & fresh signings in 2018. to kick things off. the label is enormously proud to set free endless light –– a new record from oakland newcomer space ghost.
coming on like a brainchild to dam funk & mutant beat dance. ghost s sound falls off the shelf between a number of distinct reference points: lone s early tropical synaesthetics. the modern funk of funkosphere. the intimate tapes out of ppu. in a sea of soundcloud copycats. he s a revelation.
endless light is a record with an open hand: an instantly appealing sound from a new producer with a highly-tuned ear. born of his collection of antique synths & drum machines. the space ghost experience channels a deep heritage of 1980s funk minimalism & analogue boogie. velvet pads. hood-rat sleaze & heaped spoonfuls of soul.
ichisan s 2017 aperitiv was so good that we ve decided to return for a second helping from his sumptuous album. four choice cuts have been selected and reworked with a specific instrument focus. the harpsicord version of -hotel- keeps the intoxicating melody of the original but allows beats to relax as notes shine with an incandescent brilliance. drums put their feet up for the rhodes version of -modri tunel.- deep stings and lounging lines mingle in this work of smoke swirling seduction. -kozmetika (trumpet version)- dances to a different tune. rich bass is again central but this time brash and bold brass intertwine with funk filled bars. the last waltz arrives with the piano version of -terminal e.- alluring notes ascend. rising and falling against heartwrenching guitar strings for a finale to end this ballroom inspired beauty.

for years nathan church has been cutting up floors in his native bilbao. recently the basque man s attention has turned from the dj booth to the studio. under his wldv (we love dolce vita) this iberian electronic inspiration has cast long shadows and brightened rooms with his blend of horror score intensity and disco exuberance. wldv arrives at the bordello with a four tracker of serious intent. sepulchral and sinister synthlines characterise a dying feast. nowhere more than in the haunting samples and clean drums of -a bucket of blood-. cold chords gleam with icy menace while crisp claps punctuate the entrancing funk of -danza macabra-. ecclesia toys with set parameters. exploring what lurks in the twilight between terror and titillation. this flirtation with the divine and the profane is plain to hear in the uneasy elegance and uplifting elation of -far. far away-. a work of steady kicks. unsettling extracts and soaring strings. this -feast- ends on a delectable note. keys dance and spiral in the intoxicating -laying down on cosmic dust-. an enthralling end to and enthralling ep.
baptiste letertre is ringard and comes from rennes. britanny s biggest city with a strong electronic music culture. ringard has a label called dance around 88 because he was born in 1988. ringard released 8 vinyl records. -lacrima rossa- is his first 12- outside his own label so it s a great pleasure for us to have him on board. ringard music is deep but raw. woolly. melancholic yet emotional. think soulful techno. steamroom slo-mo. warehouse heat and euphoric minimal. morphine electronics at its best with amazing strings and killer frequencies like lobster theremin meeting boards of canada in a fantasy balearic island. in french. ringard means tacky or outdated. it has never sound so cool being ringard!
japanese guitarist kazumi watanabe has been a treasure of leftfield music in the far east since the 70s. and jazzy conscious are doing a great service in highlighting the delicate talents of this gifted artist for a new generation. there s a new age lilt to the looped up melodic chime patterns that course through -garuda- as they flirt with watanabe s effervescent playing. kuniyuki then hops on the b side to deliver a contemporary remix of the track that shapes out a brooding. immersive atmosphere populated by earthly drums and looming reverb.
rudy returns to faze action records with an all-new collection of atmospheric and evocative tropical sounds. last august saw the release of the by nature ep that encapsulated the steamy and exotic textures of the balearic sound. this time. midnight safari takes up where on the beaches of formentera. where the last ep left us. this time setting sail on a midnight safari with marimba s and chugging rhythms underpinning sophisticated piano melodies. following this we drop anchor and appreciate the evening breeze of in the air with its haunting cello. endless drifting arpeggio s and tropical percussion with a hint of north africa. reach backless points the way squarely to the dance floor with chunky drums and synth bass. synth hooks galore and that piano solo that launches into starry evening skies. it s back down to earth with the settled quiet bass guitar harmonics of windchimes before heading into the more soulful and synth melodic territory of solar plex.
the second release in no bad days’ sister imprint no bad edits comes from montréal upstart unknown mobile. who first caught our ear with a lovely debut on asl singles club. here. he looks to the 1980s for inspiration. channeling that decade’s confidence and colour with three shimmering reworks. the a-side’s “dream state” matches its namesake. evoking a busy fourth world market scene. with pipes. bells and flutes chiming away in happy harmony.
on the flip. “programmer” is a slab of excitable and effects-slathered fusion funk. as if a computer has sprung to life and begun to dance. the 12” wraps with “valerian slip”. where unknown mobile folds the strands of silk from a free-form windham hill deep cut into a new shape. every bit as smooth as the original but with a nagging groove to underpin it.
phono ghosts (alias of producer neil scrivin - also behind meatbingo) returns with his long-awaited second album released via brand new imprint fonolith. building upon the cassette-raiding. micro-sampling methodology and varied sound landscape of 2013’s chrome position on skam records. solar dream reel is a journey through summery funk. mangled radio jingles. evocative atmospheres and anthemic edit-stomp. all filtered via the shimmery analogue lens of the compact cassette. a sonic exploration of that borderland between the waking world and sleep - a place everyone has been to but few remember - phono ghosts comes back to reality with a selection of vivid polaroids and cassette memories from his visits to the hypnagogic hinterland of the collective unconscious and presents these pure distilled documents for you on four beautiful sides of vinyl. something may have come back with him...
16 classic tracks that include guest appearances by david byrne. perry farrell and the flaming lips. a kaleidoscopic swirl of psychedelia. dub. indian. rock. brazilian. easy-listening and other worldly influences.
andreas tilliander released his first album as mokira at the very turn of the millennium on almighty raster noton. 11 years later. the latest mokira album time axis manipulation was issued on ulf erikssons kontra-musik and now it s time to pick up where we left off with chill out . there s an air of happy retrospect and light solemnity surrounding the new album - enhanced by the fact that it marks kontra-musik s 50th release. with chill out . mokira attempts to bring back the dreamlike state from those magical late nights of his youth spent in front of mtv s chill out zone. to go back to his ambient roots using contemporary techniques and perspectives. the result? well. imagine lee scratch perry and klf enjoying an episode of stranger things on a crappy vintage tv after being hard at work burying old tape recordings in perry s tropical garden. imagine them sitting together totally at peace in a big. cosy sofa while a heavy haze is building up in the room. pleasantly affecting the eerie images on the screen. we always knew kontra-musik s 50th release had to be something quite out of the ordinary. as expected. mokira didn t disappoint us one bit. the vinyl lp is accompanied with a download code for a mixed version of the album. containing almost double the amount of tracks. the mixed version makes it easy for the chill out listener to just sit back and let go of reality for a while. just like mokira did 25 years ago in front of his old tv.

shakarchi & straneus inhabit a secret place in the universe of music. one existing at the intersection of scandinavian poplands. hisingen forest raves and outernational placelessness. faik shakarchi and daniel stranéus famously started making beats together in the gothenburg tapas-joint coat check where they both worked as clerks. their now 10 years old friendship is the story of legends. their sparse vinyl output the secret love of deep house 12inch enthusiasts round the globe the warm. vibrant sounds found on those records a stark contrast to the stripped-down effectiveness of their marathon dj sets. frequently heard within the more nefarious examples of gbg nightlife.

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label. this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line. balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side. shavit. is a vocal led song. with a repetitive guitar bassline and. trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam. with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music. song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor. with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.
on their latest release. the magic movement presents a concept ep by luca musto. in which he reflects on the story of his provenance. dipped in blues and marinated in jazz. this release is a diverse journey in all the ways: once upon a grind kicks off with a reflection of his father s immigration from italy to germany. the strong groove of this moody gem reveals luca s roots in hip hop. making heads nod without any trouble. next up is parabel . a hypnotic slow-house jam. with rich textures and alluring vocals which tells of new adventures on the road. let me down opens the b side with dense soundscapes. sprinkled with dreamy synths and strings. while iorie closes the curtain with a dubby and stripped down remix of the track on b2. -be water he said. this state is tremendous.-
strange valleys. the 2018 full-length from starving daughters. is a progression as well as a shift in sound from the la band s already-stellar previous releases. make no doubt about it that the sound of progressive rock and psychedelia still play a big role here but there s certainly a greater influence from library music on the new lp. the starving daughters vinyl impressions blog. led by chris tillotson of the band. shared the music of chris s collection of which many were library lp s. these records seemed to have seeped into the mind. body. and souls of the whole band on this strange valleys lp. everything from the instrumentation. the attention to melody. to the track-length shows the large appreciation they have for library music. that being said. this moog-heavy. psychedelic-prog-funk. california-themed record is certainly unique and adventurous. winding through the exotic roads of strange valleys is certainly a trip well worth taking over and over again.
les adventures de president bongo is a unique work that will reveal itself over the next seven years. give or take. in the form of 24 lp s. what is a groove? it is something that goes on and on. not changing much seemingly. like the growth rings exposed when you cut and fell a tree. it is no coincidence that tree rings resemble the spiral track of a record: they re both grooves of a sort.
a groove is a routine. a life lived. it may not always seem like much – a cup of bitter coffee. another day spent under the flickering fluorescent lights of an office. an overly long queue at the check-out of a suffocating supermarket. but it is also the scent of slightly burnt meat and birch by a gently flowing stream under a pink sunset. a silver fog clearing without notice to expose a starry sky and its familiar twinkling constellations. an impenetrable smile on a crowded morning train. it is the pattern exposed on the tree stump. a proper groove has ups and downs. it has drama. a good groove is a good story. a transmission into the future.
so low is an occasional night in glasgow run by iona fortune. jd twitch. katie shambles and becky marshall. so low is strictly for creatures of the night and plays music that could perhaps be described by the words dark waves / cold waves / minimal synthesis / maximal industrial / lo-nrg / forgotten flemish goth bands. teutonic apocalyptic beats +++ it is now also a label. administered by optimo music. the third release on so low is a 5-track ep from ian hicks. formerly one half of soft metals. ian also appeared on our “now & then” compilation ep. here he commands his own release and sets the synths to stun with 5 tracks of analogue waves ranging from the xtc bliss out of “character collapse” and “depths of psyche” to the shockwave klang of “chemical environments” and “specter”. perhaps leaving the very best to last with the ultimate hypno. sex slug groove of “continuous”. subliminal vocals. wrecked drum boxes. synths spiralling. full colour picture sleeve designed by so low collective member and acclaimed glasgow artist katie shannon.
dudi004 is this wonderful 9 track record (4 remixes + 5 originals) by aporia. the singer with the angel-like voice and the marvelous synthesizer melodies from new zealand. lean back and dive into wonderland. these tracks are smooth like baby skin. trippy synths and balearic gentleness or as aporia describes it supernatural. synthetic. tropical rock n roll. furthermore. we include 4 fantastique remixes by lits801. aussteiger. cosmic palms and s&w.
tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide. who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a. one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases. have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots. with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple. wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica. with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!
its the big 5! berlin. frankfurt based label house is ok is celebrating its five-year long presence and has decided to mark that period with something special labels story started with a sticker homeboy printed in his former hometown. zagreb. saying house is ok. catchy. right? it became an underground slogan of the local scene. it didnt take long for people to embrace the idea stating that its ok to be into melodic. fresh. groovy yet. at times. a bit awkward dance music.
especial specials and deek recordings return with the second vinyl sampler of the covered in gloria album. as before. deek s bullion pulls together the label s alumni and homies a gamut of talent and styles feature. from suzanne kraft. minor science. sultan shakes. eyedress and geller & kaya.
bristol native borais latest offering on nyc-based label discovery recordings is a welcome breath of summer air. a wildly diverse talent shines through boris body of work. ive had quite a day too is the greatest glimpse of his sunny side so far. soak up these songs as winter retreats and we move the party outdoors again.
those wizards of digging psychemagik doing the business once again. hot on the heels of last year s monstrous gotta hold on me / wildman they re letting folks know that they were still out there searching in the darkest recesses of the last 40+ years of popular and unpopular music. and boy oh boy are they good at it! the trip lives up to it s name. the track kicks off with some ultra beefed up psychedelic shenanigans. swirling. cacophonous sounds whirl and sweep and gradually drag us into the holographic tunnel. gradually giving way to some heavyweight drums and percussions and unfurling into a muscular psych-discoid beast. this one will send the kids crazy and will undoubtedly cause some damage in the club. both sonically and mentally. but what is the original? we hear you say... answers on a postcard please. sisters of the moon on the flip-side is a very different animal - all laid back. laconic steel-guitars and thundering slo-mo drums and percussion. the dark side of a rural witchcraft dream exposed here. almost menacing... and then? those vocals spring out of the mix amidst the throbbing sexually charged atmosphere and drag us back into the realm of near reality with sultry moans and groans. this one s woozy alright. but in the best possible way. so wrong. it s right and possibly the natural soundtrack to too many of those strange shots that that guy in the weird hat gave us earlier when we entered that country pub. what guy? i hear you ask.... ultimate freak-disco and deepest druid funk for the discerning and psychedelically inclined record consumer.
optimo trax reaches no. 33. the final number in the series (although reserving the right to return at some point). the last release is a 3 track ep from montreal’s solitary dancer that ends the label’s run with a distinctly non 4/4 feel. we asked solitary dancer to say a few words about this ep to which they responded with
- -recordings inspired by archetypes existing within a hypothetical matriarchal society and how that may pertain to our present day reality.”

four tracks of ny-flavoured boogie and house goodness - quality is the key word from copenhagen based music for dreams and here is another home run. willie graff splits his year between dj residencies in new york and ibiza. in this new outing with studio partner darren eboli. the influence is. as the title suggests. clearly ny-based. over only four tracks. the pair manage to craft a stunningly comprehensive exploration of the essential elements of dance music. opening track -love flight- staggers into a lush string-driven groove that recalls the glory of metro area meets wally badarou vibes. minimal yet playful. it lounges somewhere in the depths of the house tradition. calling on familiar sounds while throwing in odd details along the way (harmonicas?). it takes both skill. devotion and a sense of humor to pull this track off. making for a strong opening. -moon tan- lingers on a metallic hook that drags you into a plethora of percussion followed by a rubbery soft baseline. dubby key work would suggest this was a new wave band jamming at compass point. while the icy chill of the xylophone transports you into 80s italo territory. -second sun- pulls out the bag of boogie tricks. relying on a firm but humble baseline and smattering drum machine claps. nile rodgers-style guitar licks guide us onwards into a well-orchestrated jam that builds up and breaks down with perfect timing while dreamy chords reach for the sky. -first light- keeps the groove tight while dipping over towards more balearic temperatures. steeped in a watery atmosphere and gentle organic percussion. it focuses in on a trance-inducing arpeggio that lulls you in to the swaying badarou-style synth swirls that intercept it.
e ruscha v. who has previously released on the label under the secret circuit moniker. comes back with his first full-length under his given name. ruscha describes who are you as spanning states “from calm to ecstatic but mostly in-between these.” this description points toward the liminal atmospherics of the music. which dispose of the many hallmark genre traces that informed secret circuit’s galactic journeying. for who are you. ruscha was content to wander more intimate environments. in search of an uncharted music rippling with humble discovery. the vinyl release includesd a download code.
milan. italy. 1983. in the midst of the 80s economic boom. which gave an injection of optimism after the heavily political 70s. a group of young local musicians meet every night in a basement to rehearse and record a peculiar breed of italian disco music. originated from the ashes of various other projects. and rooted in the broader jazz-funk tradition. the group creates music which is equally inspired by contemporary fusion as well as by the first wave of the italo-disco sound. over approximately 3 years the band has recorded and played live. until the dismantling of the project towards the mid 80 s. fast forward 35 years and the genuinely mediterranean flavor of qvark s demo recordings are still enjoyable. both for the actual resurgence of the italian disco tradition and for the groovy quirkiness of a project which has been too long forgotten. after an intense work of audio restoration of such tapes. heavily affected by time. early sounds is pleased to present a compilation which is an important find to define the sound of late 70 s and early 80 s italian club sound.-
paper recordings ben davis takes off his flash atkins cape and mask to launch a new project exploring things left of centre and balearic. in these disposable times. stubb will celebrate community and diy with a limited run of 300 vinyl screen-printed kraft card sleeves of commissioned illustrations by artist rachel johns plus hand-drawn labels by hebden bridge s the egg factory. we are launching is a journey in to psychedelic balearia with one of the most exciting artists of recent years. jane weaver her mercury music prize long-listed album modern kosmology was described by the guardian as -a lean and thrillingly addictive slice of unearthly pop-. the stubb collaboration is a sublime head trip to the deep reaches of space and electronica with hallucinatory guitars. burbling synths and arpeggiators that are beautifully set off by jane s ethereal vocals. mike lindsay is founder and producer of folktronica pioneers tunng and his distinctive tones sing the praises of doing nothing on boring days. which is psychedelic leftfield pop at its finest. the track is locked down by a nagging fifth bass with vocal pops. hand claps. muted afro guitar. washed synths and arps that build before the choruses hit in a wave of analogue keyboards and fuzz guitar. after that. a gloriously stretched outro takes you straight to the mediterranean. there s also an edited instrumental that brings out the sunshine...
dimensions recordings fifth release sees the label step into the world of the long player with istanbul native. kerem akdag s self-titled debut album. kerem has already been winning fans of the ilk of gilles peterson through his previous output of dusty house and tripped out beats in the last few years. and of course via his getdownsoclose offering on dimensions debut release. his debut album however. sees kerem deliver a mature piece of work. bright and timeless. equally effective in the club as it is at home and brimming with ideas. hooks and must have songs. across eight tracks kerem demonstrates a breadth of skills that most artists would work a lifetime to achieve. from the stepping beats of when i think of you to his subtle vocal layers on isolated and from the woozy beach vibes of sultan to the squelching. rasping synths of unite it s clear that there s very little that s outside of kerem s arsenal. the album rounds out fittingly with drums please. which perfectly displays kerem s jazz tendencies. a slow grooving track whose crescendo of stabs and drums create a song that s more powerful than its parts. kerem akdag s debut album clearly sets out the stall for a man who has a lot to say and has the capability to say it loud!listen up! pressed on clear vinyl with a metallic sticker insert.

a new year means new musical horizons here at the bordello. curses formed his sound in the distortion and sweat of back alley dive bar bars amidst the crash of guitars and the audible gulp of beer. hints of disco and wave balance this rougher edge. smoothing down those creased lines for a style that adheres to no boundaries. -pedal to the metal and don t look back- is a perfect introduction to curses multifaceted sound. beats orbit burbling bass and brash strings in a work of dreamy hypnotics. -knife in teeth- comes from a similarly shadowy lair. dark bars are further inked by industrial percussion in a track born on the factory floor to strict ebm parents. terr takes on -pedal to the metal and don t look back- and does the original proud. bass rumbles to the tune of a guttering engine before lighter notes take hold. murky currents are cleared by bright synth blasts in this uplifting remake. the bird of paradise closes the ep with his psychedelic take on -knife in teeth.- drums take on a more sinister tone as tribal rhythms give rise to jungle imagery and the immediate threat of what might lurk behind those supposedly innocent sounds.

for the inaugural release. regular to lobster theremin. rhythm section and distant hawaii. hidden spheres introduces the sonic flora of his enchanted new world by way of “wonders of the rainforest”. an ep that both details the multifaceted skills of one of mcr s most treasured recent upstarts whilst paying tribute to an environment that. although a million miles away from our concrete jungle. seems more relevant than ever due to the impending threat of climate change and our critical-level resource drain.
sonikku comes riding back into the lobster tropical gardens with a flurry of sparkling. arpeggiator-driven ambient jams featuring three extended reworks from nts regular mobbs.
sonikku’s originals apply a drier and skit-length pop approach to synth-based home listening. building a borderline-saccharine melodic base to each track then upping the sheen and the tropical & twinkling production. shots of balearic appear in earth temple. christmas jingles echo from the depths of diamond dust. while sky garden channels a more direct emotional palette of warm synthesizer heartbreak.
mobbs’ approach is to allow each track to breathe around it’s core strengths over a longer time frame. whilst enhancing and encouraging each element to make it’s space and time to enter the track. the shifts and swaying structures turn shorter synth ideas into fully blown journeys that become almost hypnotic by the end. a soft. dream-like ride into bliss.

a lot of bands are trying what the exorcist are doing. to make timeless. mind bending. dance music but they often fail in reaching all the way. the exorcist is the band that seem to exist in a dimension. much like ours but that lacks time as we know it. time is stretchable backwards and forward. and being in this dimension allows you to travel while. still staying in one place. call it time travel if you will or moving outside of time rather. the exorcist does this. also they reach our dimension.
“ii”. released on hoga nord rekords is dimension expanding and time dissolving music.
