alpár aka hungarian bálint zalkai. is the co-founder of farbwechsel. the budapest based record label. and his own recordings of electronic compositions (often built upon random looping sequencers in a minimalist style) are key to the label’s release output thus far. his goal as he sees it is to “catch a random pattern. loop it and build up a piece with that randomly pulsing theme. just let to flow the voltages and sound waves and try not to disturb them or change their basic behaviours”.
the two tracks here were recorded with this approach very much in mind. the atmosphere of “mejiro” is “not unlike a bird observation. attempting to find the right spot. getting closer and closer to the bird. which almost controls you and your movements as you attempt to near it”. whereas “wakayama” is a more direct piece. and maybe the most melodic song alpár ever recorded. while “mejiro” is a woozy. cautious piece. “wakayama is like a tropical fruit or the ume. (the japanese apricot). colourful and full of flavour yet -with thanks to- the slowly humming theme in the background. an element of sourness grips you at the back of your tongue as it ends!

for her first single. the sublime title loverboy comes out as a big urban spleen. released in a space made of asphalt and artificial paradises. groups like hooverphonic or even portishead play around this throbbing softness that is loverboy. splashing about in the electronic lounge of the 90s. the opener. alien lady features a flute-driven solo backed up by a funky guitar riff that then transitions into a tropical beat and tanja narrating the story of feeling a stranger in a big city. not understanding the social codes and clues ‘i don t speak the language in the way that you know’ while worth to you is a dreamy. glitched-out hypnotic track which maintains an edge of mysterious sexuality and her signature sense of intimate detachment. if the atmosphere coming out of lomboy’s work can be sometimes felt as prude and even shy. it certainly does not intend to hide with embarrassment the aphrodisiac scent that permeates it. on the contrary. this modesty perceived in the interpretation and in the production sensually envelops the different compositions. and imparts to this guilty pleasure the feeling of a stolen kiss. warped caress brings us to vertiginous heights and takes us into abyssal depths throughout the five tracks. this suggests at times a diegetic representation of this erotic world seen through the insolent prose and at other times a mimetic representation where each instrument plays an important part in every story told.

tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide. who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a. one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases. have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots. with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple. wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica. with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!
bordello a parigi is on the hunt once again. this time journeying to southern france to unearth an up and coming sect of synthesizer sorcerers: blind delon. hailing from toulouse. the triumvirate of mathis kolkoz. théo fantuz and coco thiburs offer a sound that combines indie and wave with seemingly effortless execution. the soft interlude of -sometimes- introduces assassin. a groove grips pulsing rhythms. subtle strings and throaty vocals in the captivating -sombre soleil-. those vocals become even deeper in the dreamy -j ai honte-. smoke spirals around keys in this brooding work of guitars rifts and bruised egos. the title piece perfectly melds warm strings with cold synthlines for a superb climax to an ep that exudes modern synth-wave chic.
perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez. dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones. among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante). perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize. clone royal oak. waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris). he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres. france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster. saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.
