whilst a certain parisian electronic duo were still (probably impossibly chic) toddlers, french band/production space had worked out that making lots of hooky synth disco and wearing space suits in public at all times were a potent pop combination, one that enabled them to sell 12 million records across 4 albums from 1977-81, before imploding in the time honoured fashion of lawsuits and bitter recrimination all round. space was the brain child of french producer jp iliescuo. he assembled a crack band of french session musicians for (at the time) a previously unheard cosmic-disco-synth combination. the unforgettable melodies came from talented young composer didier marouani (also known as ecama). the musicianship from roland romanelli and jannick top, joe hammer and madeline bell.

on an unassuming cassette, just labelled ‘robert rental’ in green dymo tape, these demos have lain unheard for years amongst his family’s treasured possessions, cared-for artefacts of a life cut short far too soon.
these songs, which robert recorded in his council flat in battersea in 1980, provide an enticing glimpse into his all-too-infrequent solo work. on most occasions, robert worked with thomas leer, daniel miller or other collaborators. these are rough recordings, tape hiss still in evidence, but his creativity shines through the murk, like uncut diamonds.

“wit blad” is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator joost stokhof. he was asked as an artist in residence for amsterdam’s hortus botanicus, a place where joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. joost asked eefje de visser to join him for a day and eefje asked nuno dos santos to form a powerful trinity of which “wit blad” is the unmistakable evidence.

echodroides is a collaboration between chicago natives frank de la mora & miguel martin. their sound can be described as a trip through space with analog synthesizers and drum machines. they came together in 2011 first working on remixes then shortly after decided to work on original material. their music has been featured in tv shows, movies, promotional videos from peugeot, fashion labels and the ubisoft video game, watch dogs. for this special and limited release they re-created a track from 80s us studio project, experimental products, - paying tribute to -glowing in the dark- original and an instrumental. (words from the artists) experimental products has always been a massive influence on us from the very 1st time we heard them back in the 80s. glowing in the dark, in particular changed everything for us. mark wilde and michael gross were way ahead of their time. we wanted to pay tribute to them by re-creating this song from scratch.

aussteiger is a berlin based german dj / producer. he runs the dub disco label in berlin and dj’s around the world. zusammenkunft is his debut album released on copenhagen’s music for dreams. once upon a time a golden boy came back from the shadows. rumors were told that he once left the big city in a time where the music scene and clubs were dominated by cold music and average beats. he left behind civilisation, living withdrawn in the woody mountains of a covert place. from there on people talked about him as aussteiger. connected to the nature and deeply rooted in the harmonic essence, aussteiger became a part of the great whole. in a full moon illuminated clear night while experimenting with various unique herbs he accidentally found a recipe to create warm and ravishing music. he firmly believes that music is his infinite source to gather strength and positive energy after years of strengthening himself and shaping vibrant sounds aussteiger decided to share his delightful music with the world. he returned from his retreat in order to enchant the music lovers all over the world with his feel good approach and supernatural sounds. coming back to the city, he also co-founded the awesome dub disco label with his buddy serj nosé.

british born, berlin based singer songwriter, cameron james laing steps up for an outing on suara. the original, her , is an emotive and enchanting mixture of soulful vocals, acoustic guitars and swelling strings, beautifully produced and expertly executed. roman poncet then flips the original into a bumping, breaksy, glitched out roller, twisting and manipulating cameron s vocals to add a further dimension to the mix. on the b side prins thomas brings his trademark scandanavian touch to her edging the tempo up and anchoring the song to a dynamic bass, alongside echoing out elements of the guitar and strings to create a version that wouldn t be out of place on the balaeric islands. closing out the e.p. peter pardeike takes you back to the club, placing a rhythmic arp and weighty stabs behind a pounding kick and crisp hats, to provide a big room version of cameron s original.

following the cover version of ohnuki taeko’s carnaval, we made the new version of japanese new wave classic “shinzo no tibia by mariah” with a new lyrics in japanese (original is in armenian) which is written by miyako koda. yasuaki shimizu kindly gave us the permission to do this.
extended version on a side is full of the respect for the original version and dub version on b side is dark new wave dub version. kuniyuki said the idea of this version came from adrian sherwood’s remix for depeche mode.
ryan parks is a mixed media artist, music producer/performer, and ceo/founder of critically robust cassette tape label, harsh riddims. he was born in college park, ga and grew up skating all around atlanta, soaking up the dense kaleidoscopic cultural ooze found both in and outside the perimeter of atlanta. aside from his visual practice which usually takes shape as mixed media (jacob lawrence/matisse inspired in my opinion!) collage, he has been releasing music as fit of body for seven years. fit of body crafts soulful house ballads that draw on freestyle, bell hooks, old school detroit techno, jazz, and southern rap passed through a no wave paradigm. fit of body has previously released work on cgi, dka, ransom note, and his own label, harsh riddims. “black box no cops” is fit of body’s debut 2mr release, named for atlanta hallowed skate grounds, black box. the vinyl release includes a download code.

charlois welcomes back label inaugurator dollkraut, this time in company with de ambassade. the label grants permission for them to share this 10 and create their own world, so they can coexist and share stories about lost love, condolence and isolation. on the a side they come together in a dark room anthem about sex, lust and worship. it oozes with cold, heart-stabbing melancholia, yet carries the artists idiosyncratic warm and crunchy sound. the flip side scratches open the wounds left by the first song and sees dollkraut drop his soft touch. what follows is a hypnotic voodoo track, summoning dark spirits with unsettling synths, shamanic vocals and tribal jewish harp.
the beacon crowns ashurst hill in dalton, lancashire, looming over the verdant english countryside nearly six hundred feet above sea level. this spartan brick monolith was erected in 1798 as a watch tower to warn of french invasion during the napoleonic war — & there it silently remains, keeping infinite vigil. it stands in tess roby’s mind. the beacon calls to her. “throughout my life i have felt the pull to return to it,” she says. “i’m beckoned by father’s roots & by the sullen landscape of fields leading to the coast.”

vive la void is the new solo project of sanae yamada, co-founder and keyboard player of moon duo. yamada wrote and recorded the self-titled debut album over roughly a two-year period, during windows of downtime in moon duo’s substantial touring and recording schedule. the dense, shape-shifting atmospheres of the seven songs grew out of late-night basement experiments in the layering of synthesizer tracks, a process that also led to meditations on the changeable nature of memory and perception. the result is an undulating blend of ethereal swirl, low end thrumming, and electric crackle, buoyed by yamada’s understated but captivating vocal melodies and her striking lyrics.

“madrid fue una ciudad mundial” compiles four of the most important spanish electronic projects from the 80 s. a compilation released in cooperation with a show organised in madrid last may, 18th where aviador dro, flash cero, azul y negro and esplendor geométrico played together for the very first time.
aviador dro offers two unpublished early recordings from 1981. flash cero includes an unreleased song recorded back in 1987. azul y negro collaborates with a demo version of their cult classic “la torre de madrid” from 1981. and esplendor geométrico give us a couple of live tracks recorded in 1989 for the first time available on vinyl.

lena platonos is a greek musician, pianist and music composer. she was one of the pioneers in the greek electronic music scene of the 1980s, and she remains active today. lena was born on the island of crete and grew up in athens.
dark entries is proud to release ‘commerce’, the third ep from san francisco-based trio inhalt, german for “content”. the group was founded in 2009, and for the purposes of this recording are matia simovich, philip winiger and steven campodonico. inhalt’s core operative strategy is of sonic fidelity and integrity rather than nostalgia. their first release was a split 12- on world unknown in 2011 followed by two eps on dark entries, a remix ep on emotional especial and a part time punks session on cleopatra. ‘commerce’ is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. the ep details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. employing the best of both modern and vintage techniques, the four songs on the ep utilize dense production, big snares, and powerful german vocals from philip. inhalt are informed by the brooding soundtracks of john carpenter as much as the vastness and sheen of trevor horn, and set out to explore the borders between the vocal-driven pop song and the expansive dancefloor 12″,,,, arrangement. the record was produced over four years at the bands own black sun loft recording studio and different fur studios. paul lavigne mastered the ep in london, england at kontrast mastering and george horn handled the vinyl eq curve at fantasy studios, berkeley. each ep is housed in a specially designed jacket by leo merz and includes a lyric sheet with english translations.
twin tribes is a dark synth duo based in brownsville, texas. formed by luis navarro (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machines) and joel niño, jr. (bass, synths, vocals) in 2017. they gather their influences from the dark side of the 80s. darkwave, post-punk and cold wave are only some of the genres that the band summons using analogue synthesizers and drum machines, bass and guitar. dark melodic sounds, lyrics of the undead, the occult and parallel universes are what conjure twin tribes.
