oblique is proud to present it’s second various artists ep by friends we have met years ago online. before we had our first releases, we would upload our music to soundcloud and these guys were always on my radar to check instantly. besides inspiring me, their comments and feedback were invaluable to my growth as a producer. fast-forward a few years and everyone has grown in their own way, with multiple releases, labels and parties to emerge. the platforms have changed, but the connection did not, hence the idea to reunite them on wax :)
oblique returns with a highly personal project: 3 tracks from (or with) friends who all helped create/inspire/influence the sound of the label.
ivano tetelepta, roger gerressen and ben buitendijk already had loads of jam sessions when suddenly “dilated pupils” happened. it launched a project that consists of spontaneous studio jams in various formats (involving a dozen of befriended artists on multiple ep’s, remixes and even an label). six years later the original track, after which the project was named, will finally see the light of day!
bas amro’s “languor” shows that he, besides having an ear for reimagining classics, can also do his own ,)
cyspe’s “reminisce” more than deserves the full b-side to close the ep off. a stunning 14 minute trip through the depths of what this incredibly talented producer has to offer!
“all i saw was an infinite maze of bright lights and even brighter shadows, ten thousand cities arrayed in four dimensions.
i had no arms to hang on to and nothing physical in this universe to grasp, but i concentrated on the waveform shades.”
the hague based producer deniro is responsible for the 3rd installment in the oblique music series. this time around the 12 inch consists of 4 club cuts that all showcase a different ambiance throughout.
for the second effort on his very own oblique imprint, ben buitendijk returns to the sound he’s only showcased through his well received promised land (mosaic) and a recent remix through subwax. this more dubby approach is the general thread in the sophomore oblique release called “past and present ep”. generally, this release is threading into deeper territories than it’s predecessor but is therefor revealing different sides of the label owner’s taste that are maybe being underexposed thus far.
rotterdam based artist ben buitendijk has been around for quite a while now. with a string of releases of labels such as ogun records, eshu records and appearances on the mighty field records, the time has come for ben to launch his own imprint. inspired by the city of rotterdam and his love for anything architectural, oblique was founded. a label that is designed to cater to bens vision on the overall electronic landscape and to display his love for well thought out drum patterns with dense long-stretched builds and strained atmospheres.
