what can be said about the girl whose greatest friend was the mist? it can be said she was never short of adventure. for each time the mist cleared. it had a new surprise. rabbits and rocking horses came out of hats the size of hills. armies of ants played in marching bands. deer danced. giraffes juggled. elephants tap-danced atop the moon. flowers bloomed in the sky. and stars shone on the ground. because. why cant down be up? with the mist there was always the kind of hocus pocus that twisted itself into a pocus hocus. a shenanigan or a hijinks so high it could not be jinxed. but it had to be jumped. by a fish flown by a boy from out of town. it was enough to make her giddy with happy.

following some now cult releases on mutli culti. turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight. our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins. also his partner in life). he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin. sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club. people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them. as it happened with tiga one night in cologne. and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time. it all started with me visiting berlin. sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car. me getting in trance while listening to it. asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks. all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant. hypnotic yet fun. brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection. the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven. whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

born in poland and now operating out of the ever-effervescent london. the adoptive city where she’s learnt the ropes of music production and djing. anii – real name ania iwinska – has lived many lives in one. yet if one thing’s remained a constant over the years. no matter the harshness of the obstacles life threw at her. it’s indeed a deep and inextinguishable love for music. be it behind the mixing desk at wired studios or in her own shoreditch workroom. the key place where she’s kept honing her skills with unfazed diligence. up to the point of making it her actual second home. ań......ii lands her debut transmission on kompakt and surely not the last. named after the polish word for ‘roots’. ‘korzenie’ finds ania threading her way in between subtle deep-house and techno folds. delving into the essential strength of her past and present to carve out an hypnotic maelstrom of traditional polish music strings. tribal percussions and elegiac melodies. coupling eerie ostinatos with stealthy bass moves. it’s an ode to the magnitude of memory and power of resilience that reels out. blurring the line between late night club environment and further spacious. moony soundscapes.

guede remixes is a remix compilation of dj hell taken from his 5th studio album zukunftsmusik. the release features two remixes by joyce muniz and one by paul nazca. guede’s soundscape is acidic yet minimal. with its distorted vocals and raucous instrumentation lending the track an eerie and at times ethereal vibe. each artist brings a uniquely different perspective on the sound of the original cut. whilst never completely abandoning the track’s core identity. paul nazca infuses it with trance. joyce muniz keeps the acid and adds the deep.
