yasha is 28 year old joe gillick, who grew up immersed in the sounds of ukg & grime on the streets of south london. he founded orphan. in 2015 with his friends sage redman and billy meddleton. the three began throwing bi-monthly parties in deptford, their aim was to feature the unsung heroes, the seminal artists that weren’t often regulars in the crowded london club circuit. cutting his chops djing alongside the likes of tim goldsworthy (dfa, mo’ wax, unkle), dave okumu (the invisible, jessie ware), the golden filter (optimo), mica levi (micachu) and more, joe fed his keen sensibility for club grooves. cut to 2018 and joe finds himself a seattleite.
for its 4th release, piff records recruits from as far afield as possible, tapping adelaide-based subjoi who adds to his already diverse and sought-after discography. he presents a set of tracks that are somewhat of a departure from previous releases, employing a uk garage sound all the way from australia.
us garage doesnt get more bumping than this of course its plastik people flying the flag for the evergreen sound where swing is king and a diva vocal is more than welcome. soledrifter wastes no time in diving into the funky house mindset on this various artists 12inch, keeping things heady and tracky where it counts before snazzy trax brings in a cheeky twist on a bona fide garage classic, now called the experience. joe olindo shines bright with the sexy, sharply pointed how i knew, and then lombard street takes things smoother on closing track whats wrong.
seb zitos seven dials imprint serves up its third offering with jamie trench & khalil anthony continuing to champion the early garage flavours that the label is fast becoming known for. what was missing transports you back to the 90s with that ukg groove, bumping sub bass goodness and kahlil s gritty vocals. the dub mix leaves only a small portion of the vocals in the mix, chopping them todd the god style and giving the shuffling garage rhythm more room to breathe. on the b side label head, seb zito, switches things into peak-time roller territory, dampening the kick whilst putting more emphasis on the hats, dubbing out vocal snippets, adding acid flurries and throwing in an epic echoed breakdown. all three mixes make a clear nod to the past, whilst firmly setting themselves in the present gold again from seven dials.
huge debut release by asquith on a very special self-released white label. with the lobster theremin boss having flexed his production muscle on previous releases as tom hang and chicago flotation device, this sees the seasoned british talent step out from behind the veil and lay down a seriously stomping bassline-driven garage-house a-side backed by a summery terrace-slaying mix of the aptly titled “the conditioning track”.
fantastic edits of a ukg classic! entity : london present one of their all-time favourite garage tracks with new mixes, one more on a minimal meets ukg vein while the flip is more of a 2-step version... already getting the attention of four tet! all proceeds from the pressing of this record will go to grenfell charities. -it s been one year since the fire at grenfell and our hearts and thoughts continue to be with the residents, bereaved and the latimer road and ladbroke grove community. growing up a stones throw from grenfell tower, spending most of my years in and around the area and seeing close friends and their families seriously affected by such a travesty, it s only right that i try to use the platform that we have to raise awareness and pay respect. hopefully, eventually, we can get close to justice. in honour, we have one of our all-time favourite uk garage tracks - one that really strikes a chord with many who have lived the true london life - re-interpreted by our friend from russia, lost-act.-

2018 repress! this 2x12inch ep is leon vynehall s second release on 3024. a very personal statement, this record shows vynehall s dedication and versatility in seven moving songs. uk garage meets big room house
valby004 welcomes two new artists into the vr family!
the a side is 11 minutes of rolling house hypnosis delivered by mryn from france. a versatile track that suits both, the dance floor and the hazy view from a plane window.
the b is jeigo’s “pearl leaf”. an end-of-set emotional garage tune. tear-jerking pads, soaring and swelling synths, with a vocal line characterising heartbreak.
while quite a few people are obviously still dwelling in the achievements of munich’s disco era during the 1980s, it seems that another major part of the cities partying scene travels to the same clubs every weekend. here they are getting fed with the plasticized tech house trax that everybody wants, drinking vodka red bull until they almost pass out and walk - if they are still able to - home happily, oversaturated by non-inventive, but good selling music. so far the cliché. fortunately, reality looks a bit different, at least for the lovers of uk bass. in order to make people aware of the city’s flourishing developments in this scene, the grandmasters of ruffhouse and jahmoni records have teamed up for a limited 10”.
lore’s debut on kokeshi comes in the form of a 3-track ep featured on 180g heavyweight vinyl, with hand stamped kokeshi logo. lore’s influences range from early dubstep, grime and garage, including artists like el-b, burial, sp:mc, blawan, skream, wiley and mount kimbie. the ‘down the well’ ep features tracks in the 120–135 bpm range, with dark chunky beats, heavy bass and haunting vocal samples. be sure to check out his production tutorials on youtube.
the streets’ second album, “a grand don’t come for free”, was instantly hailed as another masterpiece to equal his initial clarion call, “original pirate material. whereas “original pirate material was a record that garnered acclaim from the electronic/dance fraternity and the forward-thinking wings of the rock/mainstream press, “a grand don’t come for free” swept the board in prompting critical praise.
beat machine is ready to drop the last bomb of 2017: after launching a new 7” vinyl series (“swinging flavors”) and releasing sun yufka and kuthi jinani’s debut eps (with remixes from lechuga zafiro and ipman), the italian electronic label is ready to publish a new ep, this time signed from andrea bonalumi aka big hands. after recently releasing his latest ep “redline / greenline” (available in “name your price” mode on his bandcamp page) the italian producer now settled in london, sobborghi party series founder and member of drift kings and club cristallo url collectives debuts on bmrec with “arcane mosaics”, a 6-tracks journey through big hands aesthetic vision moving through glitches, weightless landscapes, uk rave reminiscences and post-grime sounds strictly connected to bristol sound.

10 YEARS OF GRECO ROMAN VOL 3 (INCL. FOUR TET & KORNEL KOVACS REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK19.12.17
this summer, the left of centre electronica label greco-roman hits its stride and celebrates 10 years of music. and to celebrate they are reissuing their biggest dance floor records and remixes on a series of ltd edition 12inches.
keeping things on a strictly low key tip comes the second release from instinct, serving up nothing but razor-sharp uk garage for those who love the deeper side of el b et al. together kicks proceedings off with a nagging 4x4 bump and some beautifully mellow melodies, while motion heads into slightly moodier territory without losing that crafty beat programming nous. voodoo is a more bugged out jam with some heavy processing and a preference for atmospheric touches throughout. realise keeps the quality up once more, rounding the ep off with yet more future-minded goodness that should get all switched on selectors reaching for these instinct 12inches again and again.
nice price deal !!! after a busy summer of festival dates and sun-drenched summer parties, hotflush are back to attend to their autumn release schedule, the first of which welcomes a new collaborative project from two anonymous producers, united under the guise of nefertt. both producers have become synonymous with a distinct and versatile approach to music-making. between them, they have covered everything from hip-hop, dubstep, drone, ukg, soul, jungle, broken-beat and electronica int he body of their own previous productions. this new collaboration sees the pair invoke a slightly more dance floor-orientated spirit, taking a marked step away from the heavily swung, nervy house / garage hybrids of their previous material, preferring to focus on irrestistible groove and lush melody.
dubtraxx is new on the scene, as is their label rhythm n vibe, but don t let that lull you into a false sense of security this is seriously heavyweight gear. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the 2000 tribute mix of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.
converpilations is a series of v/a compilation releases from new label, online conversations - a label based straight out of the world wide web. vol.1 kicks things off with oddities from szch, d. tiffany, saki, and tlim shug.
blah blah blah turn 5 years old this may and as part of their celebrations they have saved perhaps their most exciting signing yet for a limited weare5 vinyl release, the prolific genre juggling blacksmif. blacksmif flirts on the edge of reason, taking flamboyant percussive and melodic risks within a bass driven jazz tinged environment, such is the adventurousness of his music that he has already gathered himself quite a fan club, among which he can count mixmag, gilles peterson, and mary anne hobbs as leading members.

manchester producer anz self-titled debut comes at the crest of two years scenewide hype around her breathless brand of uk club music. also the maiden release from local club night-cum-label chow down, the record is as much informed by anz time as the nights most in-demand resident dj as by her instincts in the studio.these are tracks shaped by a good few encounters with manchester s roiling 2 a.m. crowds. this isn t to suggest a uniform sound anz ear for interplay brings her many influences together in sprawling constellations of style. jolting to life on the bassline- and funky-referencing steel percussion romp panrico, the record then slows to a half-time 808 lurch on clanger. the flip sees loa flex dense polyrhythms and coarse sublow bass before fencin brings it home in a final flourish of crystalline synthwork
nice price deal !!! brightons dismantle second single with wheel and deal once again delivering his multi genre club smashing sounds. destory is the angry big brother of his first single computation & word dance! dismantle delivers the goods again with his bouncing electro / crack house step.
the bit crushed vocal >destroy< breaks the epic build to a monster drop that gets every dance floor screaming for the wheelers! this track has been smashing it worldwide with support from n-type, hatcha, mistajam, shy fx, hizzle guy & kutz to name a few.
computation vip: the previously unreleased dubplate! this wasnt going to see the light of day! a staple in the bag of n-type, mistajam, hatcha, soap dodgers, benton, walsh & the others! a sick little rework of the original track that launched dismantle in to the limelight last year. dismantle is join from strength to strength, and is a force to be reckoned with in 2012.
LUKE VIBERT PRESENTS UK GARAVE VOL. 1 (2X12 LP + MP3)
2x12" Vinyl lp UK09.05.17
a riotous romp through imaginatively used samples, familiar piano riffs, customary beats and other rave tropes, the master of mischief luke vibert puts together a 10 track ode to the era of m25 convoys, mobile phone hotlines and raving amongst dogs on strings in british aerodrome fields. with a long and extensive history in the uks dance counterculture spanning three decades, vibert has released a barrage of inventive and animated music over the years that really doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is all the better for it. lps and singles for mo wax, warp, planet mu, ninja tune and rising high really speaks for itself, so its a honour to welcome vibert back onto hypercolour (after 2014s ridmik album and 2015’s return of his kerrier district moniker).

summer 2017 arrives early thanks to the grinning and beaming dilemma001 from the inimitable sonikku. get yourself propped up poolside for this one because its seriously bumpin’. four super fun mixes of some seriously cherished noughties rnb bangers.
following up the entity crew’s first release comes another residents ep, with two tracks from shai spooner + jordan dessar and a stellar remix from mannheim’s finest, fabe.
staying true to their london-centric sound, tracks -balanced diversity- and -soul dub- are peppered with references to uk garage, breakbeat and house, further helping the young label establish their soundscape.
the release is topped off by fabe’s remix of -balanced diversity-, a rocket of a track primed for the dancefloor and set to be an anthem. the perfect icing on the cake for this second, really strong release from entity.
nice price deal !!! unveiling themselves as oliver caird and if music owner jean-claude of the amalgamation of soundz fame, the formerly anonymous london based dub and bass duo cessa are back with a brilliant 2-tracker on their missing link sounds. on the a side is >nameless<, a lurcher filled with shuffling 2-step rhythms, warm subs and skittering electronics, which builds to reveal a dark kick drum halfway through the track. the flipside is an entirely different affair, hypnotic and overflowing with warm dubby baselines…
one of italy’s brightest new talents, clap! clap! (aka cristiano crisci) returns with his second album for black acre, following on from his colorful breakthrough debut lp ‘tayi bebba’. bringing together disparate inspirations and styles onto the dance-floor of his mind, ‘a thousand skies’ sees clap! clap! create a high energy and inventive kaleidoscopic fusion of sound – drawing on the traditional global rhythms of the old world, hip hop, footwork, uk bass and house.
nice price deal !!! based on an old sketch for a track that was lost for 20 years and then suddenly resurfaced on an old dat tape when he moved his studio, latest offering from per martinsen aka mental overdrive takes us into a universe where big pianos and bright sunshine is the order of the day. to make things even more summery and relaxed he teamed up with fellow norwegian disco connoisseur rune lindbaek for a joint remix, and while in the studio they had a swift visit from chanteuse anneli drecker - recently known for her position as front vocalist for röyksopp - who added her soothing voice to the mix to transport you even further into balearic bliss. finally this release also introduces the bright new talent of boska, delivering his more uptempo remix duties to complete this essential package to kick off the summer season.
GARIBALDI EP (WEST NORWOOD CASSETTE LIBRARY REMIX)
12" Vinyl UK03.02.17
tucked away in a now not-so-quiet corner of south east london, wholemeal have been quietly, unobtrusively getting shit done. wholemeal music’s freshman release hits the shelves this month featuring two cuts from yam records boss tom esselle and a hoofing remix from fellow south-londoner west norwood cassette library. skilfully treading the line between house, techno, and jazz, the a-side, until she spoke is a superlative exercise in light-touc h sampling and devastatingly effective rhodes work. it shuffles then stomps, hypnotises then elates, bringing together disparat e threads to create something for the head and the heart. the title track, garibaldi, maintains the light-touch sampling thread and then takes it to a whole new plane of drum-driven dancefloor detonation. twisting chord hits whirl around a savage interplay between bass and drums before dropping back to an elemental pounding, bypassing the brain and heading straight for the feet. long time wholemeal friend and serious contender for the nicest man in music award bob wncl has very kindly picked up garibaldi by the scruff of the neck, grafted an enormous pair of junglist balls onto it and kicked it screaming across t he dancefloor. this is about as peak-time as it gets. wait for the wall of bass after the second drop, its enough to stop you breathing.
nice price deal !!! manni dees - shifting ep comprises of 3 tracks of uncompromising dancefloor music. focussing on the 130bpm area frequented by many of the alumni of dubsteps fallout, its raw production values and emphasis on percussion forge something original yet functional.
whether conscious or not, it sounds like skudge-esque techno fused with his trademark hyperactive percussion, injecting the manni dee sound into a 4/4 mould without losing the rudeness.
james fox tames the beast of the title track into a slinky nyc garage-house groovathon and a frequent collaborator of mannis, deft, supplies a rework of viaduct.
early dj support: midland, dark sky, red rackem, casino times, south london ordnance.
following releases on labels such as greco-roman, ttt and templar sound, dro carey (eugene ward) returns to the scene with his new offering, the industrious yet delicate track queensberry rule featuring the vocals of kuČ,,ka, taken from his dark zoo ep, out now via australian label soothsayer. where his previous releases have been firmly focused on the smoke-riddled clubs, queensberry rules sees dro carey traverse new territory. working with kuČ,,ka and collarbones marcus whale on the track, queensberry rules sees the sydney producer creating a unique pop sound, however maintain the gritty dna that he is so distinctively known for.
after his recently, well acclaimed balearic adventures as “jane in palma”, don froth makes a welcome return to the wncl fold. he comes out fighting with the bass and bleep heavy “hr22”, nicely juxtaposed with the equally quirky but altogether more soulful sounds on “joint loose”. flip to the b side for more jump up adventures with -docs- and, by popular demand, his previously bite-sized cut “a broad range” gets extended into a full on acid squelch “widescreen mix” to close the show.
nascent london label ex-local announces its arrival with a new 5-track ep from south london talent kxngs. with an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the la collective soulection s imprint (as kings in 2012) - as well as self-released album earlys & eps that can all be found on his bandcamp page the 25-year-old brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms whilst studying sound arts at the university of the arts london which offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the citys streets.
on the follow up to their 2015 ep ‘dumela 113’, we reintroduce hyperdub producer okzharp and manthe ribane, an artist, dancer and model from johannesburg who has worked and toured with die antwood amongst other creative work.
written and recorded in london, over two weeks this january, ‘tell your vision’ is a call and response between manthe’s vocals and okzharp’s production. both bring their unique energies to the mix, manifesting in a raw confidence of new moods and temperatures that were brought out from their first taste of touring and living on autopilot.
the streets’ second album, a grand don’t come for free, was instantly hailed as another masterpiece to equal original pirate material. unavailable on vinyl for the best part of the intervening decade, we mark our second release by issuing mike skinner’s electronic soap opera on this format.
neue 12” des kanadiers jacques greene, einem aushängeschild der unabhängigen, jungen label-generation, bestehend aus uno, 3024, night slugs und lucky me, deren künstler moderne sounds wie hip hop, r&b, house und techno perfekt fusionieren. sowohl “afterglow” als auch der sommerhit “you can’t deny” erscheinen hier in vinyl-only extended versions, downloadcode inklusive.
lil silva’s new ep sees him exploring love and meaning in his unique hybrid uk production idiom. less tied to the frenetic pace of his for club play only instrumentals, “jimi” sees him modulate through textures, in a meditative state of mind, traveling his inner visions and memories. silva’s vocals are weaved through tracks “the play”, “lines” and “struggle” while newcomer cosima contributes to the spine-tingling “caught up” and los angeleno singer kent jamz blesses the epic night time soul of “de ja”. the ep has received big support on radio from the likes of benji b, annie mac, four tet, gilles peterson and mistajam, with “de ja” being placed on the bbc 1xtra a list and “caught up” featuring on the rinse fm a list.
bristol is a tight knit place and there has always been a healthy culture of collaboration in the city, lmye (lend me your ears) are the latet in that tradition. two friends who met, and for a period recorded above the idle hands shop on stokes croft. they made their debut on funkineven’s apron label earlier in 2016 with the ‘cali 76’. here they keep things closer to home with a release on idle hands.
‘manhattan’ is as indebted to ’70s us funk as it is to ’90s uk garage. a house tune that has turned heads on the various mixes it has found itself on over the last year.
over on the flip shanti celeste turns in a brilliant remix, one of her best we think.
berlin-based obstacle records returns for its second release with another ep that draws on uk garage heritage while offering its own fresh take via a trio of newer names to watch out for.the ep’s original track comes from lesus - a hitherto unknown name that splices its stripped down ghost-esque rhythmic backbone with an uneasy chiming melody. the a2’s remix from obi - another name to keep track of - retains the pace & 2step stylings of the original while combining it with a chicago house sensibility.on the b side we find two alternate versions from the mysterious prince of ethiopia. the 808 version mutates the track into a old school hip hop instrumental, with the aforementioned 808 sounds to the fore, replete with vocal sampels, record scratches and ray guns. the mt40 version takes those elements, loses the snarling bassline, and pins it all to a broken beat rhythm, once again underlining obstacle’s reverence for uk dance music culture & its desire to push it into surprising new territory.
nice price deal !!! for our sixth release we have brought together two mighty producers who critically acclaimed for consistently pushing their sounds in new and exciting directions, headhunter (with a hand from invisible) and geiom.
nice price deal !!! youth blood has been creeping up on everyone. originally released on trouble & bass scion a/v vol. 25 compilation cd, this tune was reworked in the fall of 09 and released with a slew of remixes in dec of 09. one of the many hard hitting remixes featured on the remix ep was bok boks remix that has caught everyone off guard. as boomkat best described it: >the funky upstart makes great use of the originals tangfastic synths while adding his own darkside bass hum and clacking riddim syncopations, doing it proper disco 3000 styles.< and by popular demand, we bring you this rare and exclusive white label 12 inch featuring bok boks remix of youth blood! these are two artists to watch in 2010!
nice price deal !!! the follow up to his genre-fusing debut, >no charisma<, sees martin kemp with his boney little fingers firmly on the weird switch. best described as sounding >like carl craig making uk funky<, our martin is way darker than that bloke off eastenders, and here lies the proof … djs showing love include alex nut, joy orbison, zomby, jackmaster, ross allen, untold, brodinski, hessle audio and geiom.
nice price deal !!! the second >tax haven< ep from iberian records brings together three different producers operating from within the lisbon and barcelona bass enclaves for another varied selection of bass n groove flavours …
nice price deal !!! from the beginning, oktored has tried to keep himself away from the pigeonholing nature of the electronic dance scene. seamlessly blending early rave sounds with futuristic beats and melodies, he has really been coming into his own lately. from a young age, he has been into a multitude of different genres of music ranging from ambient to death metal. the next two releases will show just that. the first of which will be the more passive side of oktored.gemini 1 (or the good side) really brings together a feeling of old detroit style techno/house with some new moombahton flavour. the fact that he has been motivated by so many different styles and sounds becomes very apparent on tracks like relax and inéz, while he brings some real deep, future bass styling on the drifter. for fans of future sounds of 8 mile, this release will be a fantastic follow up ep. but that is only one side of our gemini friend. the follow up release, gemini 2 will showcase his darker, more aggressive side. delving into rough, uninhibited bass and beat tracks, oktored will begin to show just how deep his production can go
nice price deal !!! the moody boyz remix of ‘know my name’ lends ms omega’s vocal a more calescent energy, purely due to the lucid dependability of its boisterous, bolstering bassline. it seems only natural that a trailblazing spearhead of the genre of dub should be one to reconstruct the soulful precursor to this experiential achievement, in a version that compels the attentions of both the passive tranquilized listener and the active dancefloor denizen. mischievous percussive splattering, playfully arpeggiated sonic energy and clarified stereo legroom are all integral elements of this dazzling interpretation, as it retains the unornamented, spatial candor of the original, while simultaneously instilling it with a current of what can only be described as voltaic charisma. in short, this tune is a powerful invocation to an inestimable ensemble of musical heritage: concurrent harmonic simplicity interleaved with melodic ascension make the moody boyz remix a consolidated torpedo of euphoniously triumphant achievement and savvily creative coordination.
debut album from label boss rushmore. his most concise and holistic body of work to date. spanning a wider range of styles and influences than ever before, digging deep into his musical influences beyond typical club music. pressing on translucent orange vinyl.
fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.
disco tools 1° moods is the first ep of sampling moods records label. in this first release eddie lays down the defining ingredients of his label: disco-funk samples, distinct rhythms and recordings on tape. assisted by his mentors, eddie sets out to make his mad passion for a particular music (…classics from the paradise garage, the loft sounds and the disco-funk hits) amalgamate with a galvanising rhythmic construction, which is raw and rough.
as a piece of art that touches our mood, sam try to make us rediscover the power and love of the original classics, through the continuous repetition of the samples. the label focus on a specific musical need and want to offer a contemporary garage house, raw and essential interpretation of some rare groove hits and other disco classics. the choice to add only rhythmical scores is due to enhance and exploit the sample itself.
nordic ice meets spanish fire in the latest offering from fine grains records collaboration series. blais is a split ep featuring norwegian skweee boss beatbully and barcelona-based machine funk don fitzroy north. the release is complete with three distinct remixes by young scottish grime producer inkke, synthetic funk master joe howe (fka ben butler & mousepad) and one of the finest contemporary beats producers this side of the atlantic, mwëslee. the artwork comes from norwegian graphic artist halvor bodin. blåis , one of over 100 nordic words for snow and ice, occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and becomes part of the glacier. over the course of 8 tracks, beatbully & fitzroy north squeeze the maximum from their respective mpc & synth setups to deliver an unpretentious and fun mix of synthetic funk with a punch. moments of minimality, sweet harmonies, bleeps, squeaks and bass are compressed into a gleaming crystallised form
