argentinian veteran jorge savoretti has been djing for more than 20 years, and his first release for esperanza records traces back to 2005. in this time laps he has produced 2 albums, 20 eps and a great number of remixes, on labels such as raum musik, visionquest and ilian tape. his debut on cadenza is a crisp breeze of graceful music for dancing. side a starts point-blank with bou gei bouncing shuffle, driving bass line, lively cymbals, sparkling band-passed chords, summing-up jorge s true dedication to nightclubs and nightlife. with no reprieve, ruth suspicious pads lurk behind a funky swinging rhythm spruced up by a continuous surfacing of snare rolls and giggly stabs. on the b side, sensu dub explores without hesitation darker textures and resonances, leaving no concessions to leave the dancefloor. finally u-fonk #04.01 dives into sweating hotblooded late-time hours, with am hypnotising deep-toned coil, soaked of greasy riffs and gloomy fumes.
electronic music has always had a special affiliation with space, and the sounds of the cosmos. an inherent love of all things sci-fi, galactic and otherworldy has always been a common thread, especially with techno producers, and so its always a pleasure to come into greater contact with the science of these sounds when creating new music. project alma is a new collaboration between lucianos cadenza records label and the alma sounds initiative that bridges two sets of individual passions, that of lucianos love for music, and alma astronomer antonio hales love of the universe.
COMET PLAN (SEBASTIAN MULLAERT, BRETT JOHNSON RMX)
12" Vinyl D23.05.16
swiss dj & producer, mirko loko, continued to indulge in his intergalactic persuasions on last years long player comet plan. released on cadenza, mirkos second album was enthusiastically received and picked up many fans for its collection of blissfull and wide-eyed electronica and techno sounds. featured guests on the album included dops vocalist, jaw, and francesco tristano.
returning to cadenza records after two previous singles (the motorglider ep and precursors ep), eduardo de la calle drops the methodical machines ep this december on lucianos imprint. across two pieces of vinyl, and five tracks, eduardo flexes his unique sound design of minimal and soulful grooves.
mirko loko, has always worn his detroit musical influences on his sleeve, counting pioneer carl craig as his mentor, and having worked with the likes of derrick may and stacey pullen in the studio. and on daybreak, mirko fully indulges in the one genre that seems never to get tarnished, the mechanical and industrial beats working off the deep and soulful strings and melancholic pads, a true hallmark of the classic sounds of the motor city
danish producer martinez rarely fails to surprise club music lovers with his versatile views on techno and house. his very special enthusiasm enables him to seize new musical territory with every release. with his debut record on cadenza, his house sound develops another depth, a more general view of the ever evolving tension between life and music. the mzuzu ep is all about bass. the bass is all around, the bass gushes into every corner of the club, it pervades concrete and iron. while the low frequencies deal ruthlessly with architecture, they are kind to us humans. the basslines put the dancers in a conforting state of hypnosis which might be an unconscious reminder of the long gone time when one still rested in ones mothers womb. it arouses the memory of a state when one is completely merged with the surroundings. martinez reorganises the structure of house music: the lashing grooves cease to be the center of the tracks. martinez moves the heartbeat of the music from the beats to the bass. its firmness releases the other elements of the tracks, creating a free-spirited feeling. freed from their regular task the grooves are enabled to be rough and open. instead of trying to control the crowd, they ravish us with their liberating energy. the tracks rarely need anything else. the icing on the cake consists in tiny vocal samples. creating an irritating athmosphere, they put us in a state of constant curiosity. disolving completely into the flow of the tracks, the human voices become pure sound. >mzuzu chant< & >adagio< are for the beautiful moments when the dancing crowd detaches itself from time and space
fausto messina is a veteran dj and producer from treviso, a small town on the plain between the gulf of venice and the alps. fausto has been releasing music for more than 10 years and pica pica is his debut e.p. on cadenza. in the track named pica pica a recurrent evocative voluminous chord is convoyed by a classy powerful kick drum and an organic symphony of fluffy percussions and metallic bonks, with a triumphant layer of dense whistles and shimmering cymbals. the extremely intense vibrant rhythms of idiophono contrast with the gentle reverberating harmonies of an ensemble of struck idiophones, angelically flowing in the background of the track. the smooth magnetic flux of planets ballet concludes the e.p. with high style. this jacky stride over a stack of steamy synthesisers and bubbly bleeps is a golden tune for a quivering late-night dance-floor.
shimza, real name ashley raphala, is one of south africas brightest young talents. ascendent, his 4 tracks debut e.p. on cadenza reveals solid production skills and an innate instinct for peak-time bangers. the opening track, congo congo is a dark ride over abysmal tom-tom drums, lively percussions and a gloomy bass lead, ignited dramatically by an ensemble of wide synthetic stabs and chords. in its dub- mix, the drums and the percussion become lighter without diminishing its dynamic tension. the overall weight of the leads and the stabs is reduced, leaving more space to its intense piano and string chords and swinging sub bass. shimza - secret melodies starts with an obscure bass line, but the intense twist of fractioned rolls and arpeggios bring an ascending piano progression that quickly blooms into an uplifting symphony. selector is a deeper cut that keeps the gaze on the dancefloor: the incessant hand clapping and a cloud of low frequencies bumps unexpectedly drag its hypnotic harmonies into a breath-taking drop.
swiss-based, jamaican producer ezikiel returns to cadenza for his another outing, this time dropping the tales of roots ep. with this new ep he demonstrates his flair for the musical side of club compositions, imbibing his productions with sultry atmospherics, deep emotion and organic keys and strings. the title track tales of roots is a 15-minute opus, which unravels slowly but surely, working from a soft yet persistent bassline and a hypnotic rhythm. samples of tribal singers add a distinct human element, entrancing you with their organic vibrations. as the voices continue to sing out you’re transported to a vibrant sub- saharan landscape, captivated by the irresistible guitar riff on the flip we have makha poetry, a more experimental workout with a variety of warped and twisted effects spluttering and wobbling away at its foundation. the jaunty yet slightly eerie low end gives this track a naughty allure, as those strange bleeps and whirrs continue to bounce in and out of the background. theres a controlled restraint about makha poetry which gives it a devastating simplicity and a very unique aesthetic.
pablo cahn is a talented producer hailing from and currently residing in bogota, colombia. “soul rain” is his third release on cadenza, and it comes with a massive remix by the spanish don paco osuna. the original mix of pablo is a long attractive dance floor tune textured by an overwhelming bass line and a deluge of vocal grains that shapes a large number of fills and break downs all over the track. as the journey go further, a complex twist of harmonies and resonances arise from the rhythmic grounds, shining over a blissful body of beats. paco osuna’s remix recap all the rhythmic elements and shrink the vocal drizzle maintaining their relevance to the building of the track. the bare inter-twin of its relentless bass line and its stinging hi-hats works out a magnificent outbreak of the dense original tissue of chords.
cadenzas head honcho luciano teams with house music legend david morales up for esperanza a long awaited release that will fire up the summertime. david and luciano composed the track together but then each one refined his own personal mix. lucianos flow latino mix is a long tribalistic ground moving crescendo with a sub-frequency dense kick and sparkling nuyorican flavoured percussions. the hand drums ensemble ride a magnetic bass provoking a state of hypermnesia slowly reaching a climax of celestial chords. this subtle spectral progression finally breaks down a feeling of positive trust and spiritual healing. david morales red zone mix is a lengthy dramatic ascension with a darker feeling. stretched textures are the background of a constellation of scattered percussions, over which fast paced hi-hats subliminally introduce evocative strings and arpeggios, as they were coming out, at last, as the hope from the pandoras box.
originally released in 2014, lucianos ‘the great amael is an enchanting and endearing trip, a lo-fi bubbling groove and dusted hammond organs that hustle along whilst live percussion cuts through the oceanic atmospherics. two years on, and cadenza music call upon a brace of remixers to provide fresh and unique interpretations of this hidden gem in lucianos catalogue.
philippe quenum returns to cadenza music with ‘solitaire’, some thirteen years after helping kick start the swiss label with the 2003 release ‘orange mistake’/ funky dandy’. this groundbreaking single, co-produced with luciano, has since become a landmark release, not just for the label, but also as the benchmark for the micro-house and minimal tech-house genre that developed over the decade. with a music career than spans back to the mid-80s (dancing in nyc as part of the breakdance troupe, the magnificent force), quenum found his forte with house music, both as a dj, and as a producer and label owner. setting up the access 58 label in 1998 as a platform for his music and collaborations, quenum has consistently released over the years for labels like crosstown rebels, soma, alphahouse, thema and trapez ltd. ‘solitaire’ finds quenum on fine form, on the lead track, dubby fx and bass shaking shots roll out over an urgent disco beat, muted brass and technoid stabs fire from all directions as the tension building pads flourish. shadowy forces are at play on ‘mystic’, discordant sounds echo and bellow over reverberating percussion and a dense back beat that fire into life with shuffling hi-hats. wrapping up this welcome return to the label is ‘mystery’, whipping snares and industrial clangs rumble over the urgent drums for more hypnotizing dancefloor work from philippe!
sebastian fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for cadenza records this spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the theofidelity ep. the german producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and its on lucianos label where he makes his mark as a solo artist. dopeman opens the ep with a rolling chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. fiegen keeps up the pace with anando, more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes. closing the ep is th01, again coming correct with the feel good factor with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. a cracking debut production from fiegen, and a well rounded release for cadenza.
spanish dj & producer, eduardo de la calle, has continued to explore the outer limits of the electronic palette since his cadenza records debut back in 2013, clocking up stellar releases for the likes of mule musiq, hivern discs, be as one and nonplus over the last couple of years. eduardo returns to cadenza in february with the ‘anima animus’ single, coupling two tracks of refined techno for your listening pleasure. taking inspiration from the psychologist/philosopher carl jung’s concept of anima and animus (and do take the time to explore this), eduardo marries arpeggiated synths and melodic chords with a soft kick and tantalizing hats, producing a slick piece of reflective techno that’s alive with melody and groove. on ‘north pole’, we get more of the signature ‘de la calle’ sound, subaquatic bass and searing, melancholic strings play out over a steady mechanical beat, nodding its head not only to the detroit masters but also to the european new wave sounds that influenced the motor city artists in the first instance. another assured single release from eduardo that will further solidify his place in the current electronic music landscape.
cadenza music opens up its 2016 account with the debut single from swiss producers, rare movement feat. disco channel. cutting their teeth on the dj circuit for many years, and playing alongside such esteemed jocks as seth troxler, ricardo villalobos (who mastered the audio on these tracks), jamie jones and luciano (who ultimately signed this single to cadenza), the guys have crafted a pair of tracks that sit right in the dj sets of the aforementioned company. rare 007 combines tension building synths and a wandering bassline, wrapped up tight in solid drum groove, its hypnotizing tones carving out a most useful club tool. on the flip side, rare 011 digs deeper, with cinematic string sweeps over the sparse and bass heavy kick drum. flashes of vocal refrains and micro percussion fly in and out of the arrangement as the melodic elements give this one a real sense of drama as the track blossoms into life. a very accomplished debut from the guys will no doubt provide a real dancefloor moment in the right setting, and no surprise that villalobos gave these tracks the audio master that they deserve.
7 DIRECTION(S) (DENNIS FERRER, MATTHEW HERBERT REMIX)
12" Vinyl D07.12.15
you can guarantee that luciano always comes through with a signature tune once a year, and of late has leisurely road tested singles like rise of angel and cachai at clubs, festivals and at his ibiza residencies for full seasons, before releasing the fruits of his labor. and so 2015 throws up 7directions featuring jaw on the vocal, a mesmerizing and low-slung track thats already getting pole position in lucianos sets, ending his momentous off-sonar show at el poble espanyol with it, as well as becoming a staple at his weekly vagabundos residency at space in ibiza this season.

following a three year hiatus from cadenza, the label is delighted to welcome back felipe valenzuela and dani casarano for a third release on the lucianos imprint. both producers are respected individually for their prowess in the studio and as djs, but as a combined force collaborate with magical effect in the studio.
six years on from his debut album on cadenza, mirko loko returns to the fold with a follow up album (- comet plan -) and a single (- kolor -).
2009s * seventynine* long player helped catapult mirkos profile, not only as a producer, but also as dj, regularly spinning alongside the cadenza crew, and with detroit luminaries such as derrick may and carl craig. and its on this single that mirko invites friend and peer, carl craig, to remix under his c2 guise. wearing his influences on his sleeve, mirko is obviously indebted to the techno music of the motor city, and these classic detroit tropes are certainly used in the building blocks of the original mix of “kolor-, a sprawling and pacey intergalactic journey sprinkled with a dusting of xylophones, bells & chimes, as the melody is driven forward for a heady trip across the night skies.
after celebrating 10 years in the business in 2013, cadenza records reach another milestone in a stretch that has made a big impact both on the musical and nightclubbing landscapes. the 100th release from cadenza comes, aptly, from label boss luciano. reviving his lucien-n-luciano moniker especially for the occasion, the label will release grace of an art in march. the single comes backed with another new production, ‘rickson trephala’ and the vinyl release will come accompanied by a limited edition cd featuring a mammoth 60-minute track, grandly titled ‘timeless song for lovers of the morning enlightenment’.
dance aiming to go somewhat deeper and darker than his debut album, on some kind of sign ernesto endevours to go beyond the obvious and easily cliched elements of an electronic lp, capturing the world within the spaces, using otherworldly modulars and field recordings to take the listener to the outer reaches of the albums very heart and soul.

valentino kanzyani has been producing spellbinding electronic dance for well over a decade, but its perhaps on *psiamsterdam* that the slovenian dj and producer has created some of most his hallucinatory and psychedelic work to date. the sleeve depicts a kaleidoscopic blend of amphibians and mushrooms in splashes of vibrant colour, a fitting visual to the music contained within.
argentinian dj and producer, ernesto ferreyra, provided cadenza with a rich and inspirational album back in 2010, the intricate and balanced el paraiso de las tortugas was a masterclass in minimal electronic dance. four years on, and ernesto returns to lucianos label with the insight single, and a precursor to another album for the label, slated for october release. voltage poem displays a huge progression for ernesto, a stomping, elastic backbeat, peppered with live percussion, shakers and micro glitches dances around the mechanical funk of the bassline.
last years precursors ep from eduardo de la calle provided quite a curveball release for cadenza records, the spanish dj and producer who has recorded exclusively for his analogue solutions label in the past, turned out a warm and minimal release for lucianos imprint, with all the flair and trademarks of eduardos studio prowess. really though, eduardos approach to electronic music perfectly encapsulates the sound ethics of cadenza emotive, driving, long passages of deep rhythm, often focusing on the bare essentials of a track and enunciating these for an aural joyride
moonshine heater is the debut release from marlowe, a new studio and live project from laurent bovey (aka laps). the title track is a crisp and melodious piece, the mechanical groove bubbling with dubby fx and heavy synth shots against the hypnotizing melody
sometimes, things can be worth waiting for, and the rift valley by rebelski is a project that has lingered in the cadenza psyche (and record boxes) for well over a year. already a staple in the dj sets of luciano and other cadenza personnel, the piece finally gets a full release with remixes from lee van dowski, and luciano himself this summer.

cadenzas latest release comes from a man who has made an undisputable impact on a host of a-list labels since he first began spreading his unique and invigorating sound spectrum in 2008. hailing from frankfurt and dividing his time between a hectic touring schedule that see’s him travel the world and his studio where he compiles his exciting and technically compound productions , robert dietz joins cadenza for the second time with the >slinger< ep
a true journey through sound, felipe venegas >i ching< pushes house music to extraordinary levels with its complex passage through sound. on the flip, >orisha chango< sees felipe utilize his skills to ignite the dance floor the as he delivers a powerful yet sensual cuban influenced track. a bounding rubbery bass line and velvet spoken vocals roll as the gods of the yoruba mythology are listed. as tightly sprung samples ricochet against each other, >orisha chango< reaches its high in the last two minutes, its production excellence throwing us around in rich texture.
for cadenzas latest output, the imprint serve up something a little different from usual with a versus ep from two astonishingly contrasting yet equally prominent artists within electronic music. no remixes or reinterpretations are to be seen but instead, a meeting of minds between mirko loko and stacey pullen with deux elements. titled in fitting reflection of the combination of swiss born mirko loko and detroit innovator stacey pullen, this two track cut is as its name projects in all musical and conceptual aspects. whilst mirko loko is by no means new to cadenza after releasing his highly praised seventynine album on the label in 2009, stacey pullen is a fresh cadenza artist that the label couldnt be more excited to have aboard…this is >deux elements< the eps first piece is >formulaic mode<, a twisted combination of chaotic clicks merged with underlying melodies and a serene ambience of calm.
cesar merveille first joined the cadenza team in 2009 with the outstanding ep. descarga, produced alongside fellow artist pablo cahn and garnering high critique from industry and public alike. a well known and much loved figure within candenzas vagabundos ensemble and equally the international club circuit, it is with great pleasure that cadenza welcome cesar for his debut solo release on the label. maayancholy is a beautiful and heart wrenching record, showcasing the delicate and fiercely musical palette of the french producer. introducing with shimmering open cymbals. light and airy they rustle simultaneously and offer diversity via their multiple manipulation. unsettled and sporadic, they splash throughout the remainder of the piece in an ethereal manner, casting light over delicate steinway piano keys and stabbing muted chord sequences. argentinean artist guti composed the aforementioned piano, his jazz and pianist training clearly used to full degree on maayancholy with simplistic singular key arrangements and piercing chord sequences. as the ascending chords rise, they dance magically alongside the pitter patter of percussive drums in a stripped back and raw demeanour. maayancholy effortlessly lays bare the emotive side of merveille through this ambient and surprising track. luciano picks up the remix duty for with a 16 minute interpretation. as condensed cymbals and piano chords are electronically warped, urgency prevails and groove sets in, securing lucianos twisted version as the perfect companion for the simplistic original. pace quickened and intensity sharpened, luciano demonstrates the clear dance floor attributes within . maayancholy in an electronic reinterpretation fit for the floor
cadenzas latest offering comes from swiss german duo laurent bovey & gregory poncet, more commonly known as digitaline. firm family within cadenzas realm of artists, digitalines latest >up and down my spine< ep is their fourth contribution to the increasingly impressive cadenza catalogue of experimental and meticulously produced electronic soundscapes. deep and chugging grooves, atmospheric spheres and industrial synth patterns are digitalines forté. up and down my spine is no exception to their uncompromising rule. a-side africa makes its grand entrance with a deliriously deep bass line belting from underneath its hazy atmosphere and pouncing crisply into cutting hi-hats and sweeping snares. the jerky rhythmic groove is determined from its first steps and contrasts impeccably with the sensual and stripped down vocal from diaraby nene by oumou sangaré. trickling over the top of a fierce and bouncing violin melody, the listener is catapulted into a woven cultural journey. africa is an encapsulating house track thats plethora of influences and appeal span worldwide. on the flip, the duos >shivers< is percussive and a clear companion for its counterpart, >africa<. made to sit effortlessly together, the same potion of heavy kicks, tribal essences and impeccable arrangement follow from one side to the other, coaxing our minds and bodies into digitalines intricate musical world
never losing the musics immediate physicalness out of sight, the driving, bass-heavy energy of alex picones tracks set club floors on fire. still in his twenties, hes been a dj for fifteen years. having never aimed at quick fame, his career is exemplary in its endurance and commitment: he hosted parties in his hometown of padua and became resident at seminal italian clubs. after a stopover on ibiza he now resides in berlin. alex picones first record under his real name is also his first release on cadenza and his most successful so far. the three tracks of fahrenheit tie in with the overboiling force of floppy and furby. while the rattling snaredrum adds a humorous touch, the uplifting groove of inside out pushes on the limits of the energy levels of contemporary house music. yet the heart of the track is the relentless bassline, which liquefy ones body and melds the crowd and the whole club in one torrential stream of tension. with lost in burning man, alex picone fuses an oldschool electro groove in his house beats. this unexpected encounter might remind one of kevin saundersons hiphouse sound. but instead of indulging in nostalgia, the breakbeats add a provoking, startling touch to the track. with the rotary bassline and the playful jaws harp of mandarin, the ep ends on a comical note. alex picones second cadenza is a challenge to a certain house sound that became too accommodating and glossy. his musics driving force pushes the crowd beyond the threshold of the established into a space of limitless indulgence
whether hes producing singalong house anthems (la mezcla) or hard edged tech house (red tape), michel cleis obsession with sound has seen him garner a reputation as one of electronic musics most exciting production forces. with recent remixes such as tracey thorns >why does the wind?< and harrison crumps >deep down inside< still rocking dance floors aplenty, cleis next solo move has understandably been an eagerly anticipated one.
just how much mileage can you get out a single loop? both pablo cahn and cesar merveille seem to know the answer. if only these guys had turned their talents towards automotive engineering, we might have vastly more fuel-efficient cars by now, and an end to global warming. but we can take consolation, at least, in the heat they bring to the dancefloor. cahn and merveille worked together on cadenza 39, here they each take a side in a friendly contest to see who can go deeper.
are you feeling energetic? actually, dont even bother answering. because after hearing robert dietz >soup opera< youll have stamina for days. its a charging, standup bass burner that puts house sounds to techno purposes, its a wolf in sheeps clothing, a rainstorm at the open-air-a monster, simply put, that leaves you drenched and grinning from ear to ear!
emptiness isnt a quality you normally associate with electronic dance music. from the crowd on the associate with electronic dance music. from the crowd on the dancefloor to the weight of the bass, its all about fullness, volume, density. reboot turns that opposition on its head with his debut album, shunyata. the title comes from buddhism and translates loosely as >emptiness.< but not just in the negative sense: it speaks also to impermanence, a state of constant flux. its a great description of reboots music, where everything is in constant and kaleidoscopic motion. and its also a fitting metaphor for the life of the frankfurt-based musician, aka frank heinrich. in just three years, since his first eps under the reboot moniker appeared on cadenza and below, hes become one of electronic musics hottest properties, releasing not only a slew of singles for labels like cocoon, love letters from oslo, ricardo villalobos >sei es drum< and underground cult fave motivbank, but also a pair of high-profile mix cds for cocoon and cécille
luciano must be feeling generous. oour swiss-chilean hero returns with a major double-pack for cadenza proper, featuring four more remarkable tracks that capture his many versatile talents, from driving house tools to psychedelic anthems to bright, melodic, electronica...
gavin herlihy is back on cadenza, and he comes bearing what can only be seen as an instant anthem. remember those foam toys, the ones where you just had to add water, and theyd swell into wonderful, unexpected shapes? back burner is a lot like that, but no water needed: just a needle in the groove, or a laser across the aluminum, is enough to send this sucker ballooning to enormous proportions.
just in time to warm the winter months up north (and soundtrack some seriously dreamy summer nights down south) comes a very special remix package for mirko lokos album >seventynine<, featuring three certified legends of house and techno: carl craig, ricardo villalobos and cadenzas own master of ceremonies, luciano. and when we say >very special<, we mean it: these are big tunes with a deceptively subtle touch, and their sleight-of-hand moves are going to turn all types of dance floors upside down.
special 3x 12 inch edition including full length versions!!! in this version youll have the chance to get the the full length version of celestial, conspirer, los ninos de fuera, africa sweats feat. ali boulo santo and metodisma which arent available on the cd versions of the album
for almost as long as there have been djs, there have been dj tools: bonus beats, acapellas and ambient overlays have long been the stock in trade of selectors interested in more than simple crossfades from outro to intro. but back at the beginning of 2007, luciano put a new twist on a triedand- true idea with no model no tool. the inaugural release on cadenza split composition, a sublabel of the iconic swiss imprint, no model no tool revitalized the recombinant concept, offering djs a selection of readymade miniatures that worked like sonic building blocks—oddly-shaped bits and pieces designed to be stacked and shuffled to the djs delight.

venezuelan producer argenis brito graces us with his sophomore cadenza release, the imminent ep. renowned for his role as lead vocalist for senor coconut as well as his collaborative projects with artists as decorated as luciano, pier bucci, jay haze and samim, the multi-talented argenis solo work comes with some pedigree. resident in berlin since 2004, his distinctly latin interpretation of house is a step ahead of the game, with prior releases on junion and cadenza animating floors with that inimitable south american fervour. title track >imminent< is a playful affair, with bouncing bass and a shimmering synth melody dancing around the kick. intoxicating and funked up, the melodies call and respond in a fragmented conversation while pulsing echoed tones add depth to the mix. >mind body soul< stutters into a complex percussive pattern, coloured by warm keys and blocks of bass tone. funky is the word, as a distorted vocal directs bodies to the floor. deep and immersive, dark melodic synth movements plunge us into a sweaty and cathartic house hole. on the flip, >lolipop< combines electro and house elements into one cheeky dance with the devil. bubbling bass flows under cascading melodic synth, as fat percussion crunches around sharp vocal bursts. slick and futuristic, this is for that time of the night where looking backwards is not an option.closing the ep, >unreality< is as deep as they come. warm and uncompromising key stabs pulsate over a no-nonsense bass drive, accented by harmonising clav tones. living up to its moniker, the resonant melodies and hypnotic pace conspire to transcendental effect.
jorge has been a central figure on the latin-american musical stage since the 80s-first as the co-founder of chiles beloved political rockers los prisioneros, then as a restlessly inventive solo musician and as one half of gonzálo martínez, the experimental electronic duo with dandy jack (martin schopf). now based in mexico city and working alongside loreto otero, jorge presents los updates, a new project combining electro-pop with an unusual approach to minimalist house and techno. designed both as a studio affair and a live performance, los updates expands its collaborative scope by reaching out to a crew of well-known chilean and european musicians who were central to the development of chilean techno in the mid 90s: ricardo villalobos, dandy jack, luciano and tobias freund, all of whom deliver defiantly original remixes across a series of 12-inch singles. tobias. fills the a-side with his remix of >pictures of you< simply one of the most dazzling things youll hear this year. tobias. recent string of work-singles for wagon repair and ostgut ton, as well as remixes for two armadillos and jim rivers-has shown him to be a master of the hypnotic groove, and here he entrances like never before, laying down a stark 808 drum pattern which he threads through dubby keys, analog explosions and liquid bass figures. on the b-side cadenzas luciano is getting late and brings his inimitable touch to the remix of >etting late<. luciano reworks the song into a lean, bleepy groove that marries the cool restraint of vintage dbx to lucianos own effusive style, buoyant and percussive and completely enveloping..
big with efdemin, dixon, sebo k, karotte, dj misk, 2000 and one and many more.. following up from his masterful album no disco future, thomas melchior returns to cadenza with a new single that continues to push gently outward against the boundaries of house music.
once again, cadenza keeps the blood flowing frew with th addition of a new artist to its roster - on in this case, three of them: guido schneider, andre galluzzi and florian schirmacher, teaming up for a two-way three way of sorts, and resulting in two absolute stormers, just in time for the stormy season !!!
dj support: 2000 and one, karotte, tobi neumann, onur Özer, matthias tanzmann, ali schwarz from tiefscwarz... the four tracks on >Études Électroniques< find luciano invigorated and inspired, putting his talents into the service of dancefloors at their most delirious. with its delicate skip and its slow sunrise flare, >montana< opens the record on a blissful note, calm and suffused with light. a hollow bass tone puffs away like a glassblower as brittle rhythmic patterns spin round and round. swelling and drifting, weightless and iridescent, it feels like chasing dawn in a hot-air balloon. >fochedrem< eases off the throttle and cracks an ear-to-ear grin. a stubby one-note bass line beats out a kind of cartoon funk as the answering riff splinters and shapeshifts between cowbell, organ and piano. its as slippery as the deck of a storm-tossed boat. >masalla< features liquid congas and feathered metallic details that stand on end like magnetic shavings. laid-back and polyrhythmic, its a future latin maysterpiece
for its 20th release, cadenza turns to romanias petre inspirescu, aka pedro. he may be a new addition to the label, and for that matter a new name to many listeners. (until now hes recorded two compilation tracks and one ep, for the labels vinylclub and a:rpia:r.) in his home town of bucharest, romania, however, petre has long been a pivotal figure alongside his frequent accomplices raresh and rhadoo, and in the last two years, his appearances in ibiza and throughout europe have brought his name to many listeners lips, heightening interest in the fertile romanian scene—an unexpected outpost of advanced electronic music whose rise recalls chiles emergence as a central player in contemporary techno, despite its location on the socalled margins !! this 2x12 brings us four another outstanding minimal and hypnotic tunes. essential !!
pikaya take to the a-side with a flourish of robes and flashing beams of light. >jedi< is not the track youre looking for… wait, no—it absolutely is the track youre looking for, all mind tricks aside. kicking off with a sparse drum pattern, it quickly shifts from a measured andante to an easy jog, as resonant synths and sweeping filters whip up desert winds and high drama. high, lonesome counterpoints and a moody chord progression carry the faintest whiff of ennio morricones outlaw music, and playful trills—you could almost swear they were birdcalls—suggest a secret oasis hidden just behind the next hill.if you find >jedi< cinematic, then >fango< will really blow your wide-screen mind. starting with a rhythmic underpinning thats everything youve come to expect from a cadenza track - tight, ultra-kinetic, just a little bit jittery - pikaya build up layer upon layer of hazy pads and cool arpeggios that shimmer like the aurora borealis. bullfrog-throated horns occasionally burst in with a fat, amicable fanfare, announcing the arrival of the peak hour. great, unison handclaps play off against heel-kicking syncopations: madness ensues. and then everything slowly, imperceptibly smears together and loses focus, and the tune fades flickeringly away. talk about a double feature! now playing on a turntable near you
l delay is all about the drama—but at the same time, its skipping hi-hats and ringing bells suggest a carefree spirit and a supreme lightness of touch. talk about a duality: a cloak of reverb sucks the track perennially towards the dark side, but from the gleeful syncopations to the cheekily sampled live instruments, everything else opens up to the light like a morning yoga position. there s no funny business here, just tight rhythms and emphatic phrases that command bodies to move. its a monster of a track, but it must be of the loch ness variety, because youll never see it coming. on the flip, >frost< —haunted by the same high, lonesome string note as >l delay<— might be even more energetic, if that s possible. the high end has been smoothed down, and some of the roughhewn chicago edge of its companion tune sanded smooth, but its crazily syncopated standup bass line and distant, answering keyboards is all muscle, tensed and ready to explode. spacious drum tracks clear the floor for flashes of tambourine and handclaps so dry you can taste the salt on em. again, no nonsense is the name of the game: just raw, unadulterated funk with an ear for playful rhythms and limber moves
die schweizer verstehen nicht nur was von uhren und kräuterbonbons sondern auch was von guter musik. digitaline, aka gregorythme and laps zeigten schon auf cadenza 7 was sie können, hier setzen sie noch einen drauf. zum beispiel anja schneider, troy pierce, matthias tanzmann, mike shannon oder karotte sehen das genauso..
amazing tool project on 2x12inch... first with great minimal phunk tech burner...2nd 12inch with beatless ambient sounds >> support by karotte, tobi neumann, shinedoe, chloe, ali schwarz, mike shannon...
next cadenza killer ep !! the four cuts on this doublepack are monsters all, between eight and 13 minutes apiece. coming hot on the heels of similarly sprawling releases from ricardo villalobos and luciano & thomas melchior, they confirm cadenza s commitment to stretching electronic dance music s form to fit a more expansive frame. these are anthems, but they re anthems of a different sort. while too many hits beat their riffs like dead horses and treat their listeners little better, loco dice turns their attentions to gauzier, wispier elements: ghost melodies, feathery percussion, iridescent timbres that flash once and are gone
luciano & tobias freund edit of n.s.i. s original track once again, cadenza comes on strong with a powerful and unconventional floor-filler, proving that >minimal< music neednt be a predictable affair of plug-ins, gratuitous reverb, and garish bit reduction. in its first limited-run, one-sided single, cadenza revisits last year s >max binski< ep from nsi (non standard institut)-the duo of tobias freund (pink elln, sieg Über die sonne) and max loderbauer (sun electric)-with a 13minute edit by freund and luciano. the edit takes >clara ghavami<, a sleeper cut off the b-side of the nsi ep, out of the isolation tank and into a crazy, heaving landscape of fluid shapes and odd angles. underpinning it all is an irresistible rhythm that s pure luciano-powered by a stuttering kick drum and some antennae-like, hypersyncopated squiggles, it pumps away like a legion of army ants, carrying exponentially more than its own weight
'another superb release from cadenza, deep and extremely well produced'.. masterfully arranged with quirky wooden percussions, improvisations rotating around bouncy snares, swing and occasional organ chords putting some weight on it..
maayan nidams second album new moon has many different levels. stylistically, the berlin-based producer has created an 11 track collection of alternative electronic rhythms that combines everything from blissful broken beat, to surrealist electro, jazzinfluenced moments, acidic house, exploratory techno, and piano interludes.
at its heart, the album celebrates the communal ideal of dance music with spirited, percussive tracks offering a clear distillation of what could only be described as the cadenza sound. but mirko also diverges from the dance floor, ducking into shadowy corners in search of more private emotions. rather than scattering energy, that tension between moods helps bind the album into a potent, coherent whole.
>sidonia< opens, immediately announcing that this wont be merely business as usual. with its groaning sub-bass and flickering percussive flashes, the track echoes the dubby, drifting melancholy of classic warp records-always, in truth, a key influence for cadenza. bells and voices lend an atmosphere of shimmering energy thats carried over into >around the angel< which sails jubilantly forward, propelled by intricate polyrhythms and uplifting female vocals.
dance aiming to go somewhat deeper and darker than his debut album, on some kind of sign ernesto endevours to go beyond the obvious and easily cliched elements of an electronic lp, capturing the world within the spaces, using otherworldly modulars and field recordings to take the listener to the outer reaches of the albums very heart and soul.
VAGABUNDOS 2013 MIXED BY CESAR MERVEILLE & MIRKO LOKO (2CD)
the vagabundos return to kick start the ibiza season in real underground style. cadenza selects the cream of their crop to represent the second mix compilation this year, with cesar merveille and mirko loko going head to head on this real connoisseurs collection. merveilles mix begins with a real nugget from label boss luciano, and his remix of tim wrights thirst, ploughing right into a deep and distinctly underground house sound, with raw productions from the likes of daze maxim, rob mellos remix of losoul, and roustam
rhythm vagabundos, the dj, club and event collective from lucianos cadenza stable, returns for its biggest year yet. holding fort every sunday at ibizas pacha club over the last 3 years, as well as hugely successful events in london, chile, bucharest, new york, tokyo, naples and more, the vagabundos parties have become the stuff of legend earning them numerous accolades of best ibiza night
the parties were a runaway success, with luciano and his fellow cadenza artists playing to a packed pacha every sunday night throughout the summers. vagabundos is now a world-recognised club brand, celebrated for its wild and hot partysessions!
in just three years, since his first eps under the reboot moniker appeared on cadenza and below, hes become one of electronic musics hottest properties, releasing not only a slew of singles for labels likecocoon, love letters from oslo, ricardo villalobos >sei es drum< and underground cult fave motivbank, but also a pair of high-profile mix cds for cocoon and cecille.
theres a good chance that youre going to look back on 2008 as the year you discovered los updates. and to think that it all began with this record: los updates first if you pleaselos updates is the latest project from chilean musical mastermind jorge gonzález together with loreto otero. jorge gonzález is one of the countrys best-known musical ambassadors. his group los prisioneros defined the sound of chilean rock in the 80s and 90s, standing in opposition to pinochets military dictatorship, selling out stadiums across the americas and laying the groundwork for todays rock en español movement.
