as the range, james hinton has released previously on astro nautico, alongside other such rhythmic alchemists as obey city (now signed to lucky me), time wharp and howse (now signed to tri angle) as well as appearing on remix duties for kuhn on the london based civil music label. outside of this moniker he released >cower<, a full length under the alias stegosaurus, on his own sqwal recordings imprint.
operating out of providence ri, james hinton fuses snapshots of global electronic music into a heady brew of deep sub bass, rattling footwork drums, juiced up junglism and dirty south rap beats. here we present the five track >disk< release, bristling with frenetic energy, complex percussion and cerebral melodies – >disk< is as suitable for the home as it is for the club and marks the latest evolution of the range sound.
recorded in late 2010 and mixed in a remote studio during the finnish snowstorms of early 2011, donky pitch present >the trick ep<, by helsinki resident and skweee pioneer v.c. six original tracks of synth soaked computer funk, electro inspired slow jams and colourful hip hop heaters. v.c. has been making moves in the skweee scene since the early days (as a solo artist and as 1/4 of supergroup yt). his combination of layered synths, hip hop beats and that type of funk only found in the cold reaches of the nordic region have scored him releases on every skweee label going (flogsta danshall / harmnia / mssy / ddpop / disques mazout) as well as ramp recordings. we felt it only right that he commanded our first true foray into the scandinavian electro funk sound of skweee.
panasonic sees the range further cement his position as one of electronic musics most unique voices. elements of light and dark meet dense orchestration, breakbeats and a fresh approach to sampling across all six tracks, which remain true to the ranges love of r&b, hip hop and drum & bass channeled in a way that he has made his own.
the seventh release from donky pitch sees the heavyweight pairing of arp 101 and elliott yorke, combining blunted boogie synthlines, thugged out bass bumps and heavy beats into a set of genre blurring club tracks. the vinyl features two collaborative heaters and arp 101s much lauded gem, slam.
arp 101 is best known for his releases on eglo and remixes for the likes of slugabed, bonobo, jehst and starkey, his brand of low slung bangers resulting in a steady flow of admirers. elliott yorke has dropped beats on project mooncircle and forms half of cosmic funkateers royalty.
support from skream & benga (bbc radio1), mistajam (bbc radio1 / 1xtra), b traits (bbc radio1), sinden (kiss), kutmah (brainfeeder, nts), slugabed, brackles, lv ...
