north lake is a fairly established name in the leftfield techno scene and each release he puts out leaves his listeners constantly looking forward to much more. the prolific and elusive michigan-based artist has a rich repertoire of previous releases and contributions on exemplary record labels such as permanent vacation, life and death, ellum or phonica.
the four tracks on his seventh ep stand out as masterful, immersive, very intense and at times eerie pieces of lower-bpm dance music. opener *sun gun* and title-track *two headed beast* follow up on the trails of *journey to the center of the sun* or *marlborol noir*, adding further proof of his ability to constantly deliver memorable synth jams. the b-sides *caverns* and *white lodge* allow him to explore his darker side, adding even more melodic intricacy and dramatic moments to his deep, eerie trademark sound.
*two headed beast* is our collectives sixth physical release to date and the first in a longer string scheduled in 2015. *white lodge* will be available exclusively on wax.

it is no exaggeration to say that ultrastretch has accumulated an array of outstanding releases and artists since its creation in 2011. one knows that being as renown a representative of the underground music scene as sammy dee is, he can easily sign music from any established artist he would like, the so called ‘big names’, however, when we look at the past seven releases on ultrastretch, the agenda here seems to be another. what has become an apparent and admirable feature of this label/platform and of sammy dee himself is his clear support for new music from young and yet to be discovered talents. it is on that note that ultrastretch 08 brings you romanian artist crihan. hailing from a small town close to cluj, alin crihan moved to bucharest in 2009 to be more in touch with the underground scene and music in the capital as it poses more opportunities for him to grow and develop. from dj’ing in the most various clubs in his home country, his first steps into western europe as a dj came earlier last year at no less than the legendary robert johnson club alongside petre inspirescu in frankfurt. producing under his real name for the past four years, crihan’s release for ultrastretch brings two tracks, setting the listener into two very distinctive paths. the a side, * uelden* is a dance floor oriented track. the first words to come to mind are groove and rhythm, giving the track a somewhat funky feeling overall. the elements have been crafted carefully and therefore appropriately placed just where and when you need them. by simply starting the track with a bass line and shuffling hihats he slowly develops to a journey that not onlyventures further into groove and rhythm but also in mind grabbing harmonies with deep/airy sounding pads giving it a comforting sense of beauty and obscurity. the b side is called a doua dimensiune, literally translated from romanian it means the second dimension. doing justice to the title the track does generate the feeling of being in another dimension. it is a very deep affair into mind-altering soundscapes, very atmospheric and at times dark and obscure. attention to detail is apparent judging by the overlayering of elements featured in this track. a constant rolling base formed of water tapping ambient sounds give way to harmonies made up of strings and random noises on top.

front left represents a very special corner in a very special spot on this planet. every week the front left people gather together to celebrate techno music. techno is what brings us together and what makes us family to one another. we rejoice listening to it, produce it, talk about it, share it and mainly dance to it. it is incredible how one physical spot creates so such magic and human connection. this label brings the productions of the front left people to the world. in the first release, you will find elad magdasi, a heavy dancer and an emotional producer. his productions are wide-ranged and loaded with a true rave spirit, combining an acid-line treatment and his melodic point of view. in the last two years elad s productions turned to the techno side, and now he feels it s time to finally let his music out. gathering knowledge and figuring out his style brought him to this point. his love for raving is what keeps his mojo going and brings the inspiration to his life. joining the first release is matrixxman (charlie duff), the talented producer who s been shaking dance floor with his hit -protocol- for already 2 years and now releasing his debut album on ghostly. not surprisingly, the connection between elad and matrixxman was also formed on the front left. the first release combines a slick collection of sounds.

polish resident lutto lento follows up his debut 12inch for charles drakefords ftd label with this 6 track ep whips for where to now? records. luttos sound places him as quite a unique figure in modern electronic music, showing a fearless work ethic in shrouding his productions in saturated tape loops, and achieving what is certainly a low-fi quality to his sound, lutto manages to never let this lo-fi edge take centre stage, instead this expertly crafted process of tape cutting and looping provides the backdrop to luttos exuberantly crafted yet absolutely dance floor orientated drum work.

london-based artist the room below follows 2014’s dba debut (as part of the 015.5 v/a release) with a mixture of classic and experimental house sounds. born in bristol, raised in dorset and residing in the capital, henry keen aka the room below has been djing and collecting vinyl for over 20 years. as soundspecies alongside his brother he was championed by gilles peterson’s worldwide show and london institution cdr. the alias ‘the room below” was coined to coincide with henry’s analogue re-working of close friend paul white’s ‘rapping with’ lp. since then he has maintained this alias for his house and techno composition. they pay homage to the legendary chicago and detroit artists that inspired him back in the 80’s and 90’s.

lukas simmer is a prestigious name on the underground house/techno scene, making his debut here on wrong state recordings with a strong four track ep that marks him out as one to watch. with a background as a sound technician and musician, he has a solid grounding in the world of composing and producing music - which is clear to hear in this debut.

multipurpose french techno artist leghau plants his name in the heads of a large public thanks to a string of releases on various international respected labels such as figure, sleaze, skryptom & credo. supported by a lot of key producers, his music is a blend of various influences and styles that gave him much respect and bookings for huge events and in clubs as techno parade in paris, the rex club and berghain.

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

jesse siminski otherwise known by his dj name heartthrob and as label boss of imprint isnisnt, returns with a fierce 4 track ep of jacking modern acid funk. heartthrob has been producing for over a decade and his innate ability to create cutting edge and propulsive techno grooves has kept him busy with a touring schedule that takes him across the globe, as well as a new party series named after the label. pressing on pink coloured & marbled vinyl.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

franck collin, aka fleck e.s.c, is an electro artist originally from france but currently living in tokyo. franck’s earlier experience playing bass and drums in bands and his love of horror, science fiction and b-movies, naturally drove him to the electro scene. with additional influences rooted in new wave, contemporary, techno and ambient, fleck e.s.c tries to avoid the clichés of electro, leaning more toward the spooky side of horror and sci-fi and the cheap retro sounds in tribute of the movies he loves. never too serious or pretentious and always striving for fresh sounds, fleck e.s.c’s music aims to distract the body and the brain.

the rawest, diy gospel ever resurrected. the west side of chicago was just an annex of the deep rural south for gene autry cash and his flock of recent old dominion transplants looking to cut their fiery, unadorned sounds indelibly to plastic. his jade label absorbed those god-fearing artists: family bands with wailing kids and barely amateur groups sourced from local parishes, infused with reverberations of country and western and deep soul. glinting authenticity shines from every track like a diamond in the unpolished rough—each group completely convinced that salvation comes through song.

shadeleaf continues, with a strident 7 out of 7 on the scoreboard! following a stunning (and sell-out !) ep earlier last year, the north easts answer to michigans finest, steps up again, with probably his strongest work to date. mannmademusic became known very quickly, over the space of a few low key, but expertly realised edits releases for the likes of glenview, lumberjacks in hell & diner city sounds. this ep sees him continue wearing his influences proudly, but re-imagine them in an altogether rawer framework - samples woven together, augmented and redefined, some of it following the classic kdj blueprint but laid out in a style thats all his own. those familiar loops submerged and unfurling, rubbing up against altogether more off-kilter but coherent workouts, sat alongside perfectly measured electronic jams all combining into an ep that stands head and shoulders above the competition. another shadeleaf sureshot!

its toby tobias time folks! ahead of his brilliant lp which will be dropping here on dog in september we give you a little reminder of why he’s one of the heroes of the underground uk house scene. toby has been honing his skills as a producer, dj, promoter and all round nice guy for years now and we’re very happy to be offering up fresh new club business from the man himself in the form of the rising ep. never one to go for the obvious, he always puts his neck on the line and pushes his productions in an interesting and often unexpected direction, making full use of his fully analogue studio to get those ‘happy accidents’ into his tracks which gives him the edge over so many others on the scene today.

long arm follows up *the branches* from 2012! every new experience lets him grow as a person and also expands his knowledge of the world that surrounds him. his young mind is sometimes blurrying the lines between imagination and reality, dreaming and being awake, reality and fantasy. making sense of this world in its very own unique way, his world is filled with fantastic and surreal magical creatures and quirky characters.

laid down with authority by l/f/d/m are four no nonsense cuts blasting fresh air into that perennially en vogue phenomenon known as acid house. after stunning eps for glasgows prestigious optimo trax and clandestine traxx, an equally crushing full-length for kompakts ecstatic imprint, and two brain melting eps for diagonal with factory floors dominic butler as bronze teeth, it is an honor to have his sounds grace cgi with a release that sees him playing right for the heart of the dance floor.

okain is a french dj and producer who s grown up in paris. he has previously released on labels such as tsuba, bpitch control, quartz, viva and upon you which, has gained him recognition across the board. he has toured around the world at clubs such as fabric, rex club, row 14, watergate and more helping him to become one of the most charted artists on resident advisor. a new name to join the ever-expanding truesoul roster is okain . his first ep on truesoul majestically crosses the paths between house and techno. using deep underlying sub bass rhythms throughout his tracks, okain creates grooves that maintain an extremely funky feel throughout this ep.

metropole ep is the first vinyl release on mechanical thoughts signed by label owner alhek. the last three years spent in the german capital have shaped alheks vision of electronic music, both because the music scene and because the thousand faces and environments of this incredible city, taking him to develop a unique sound characterized by tridimensional atmospheres, sharp noises and unclean but strong beats. to complete the ep, we find a remix by ixel, a dj and producer active and very present in the underground scene of berlin and entire europe since almost 20 years. his remix is an extra dry-uncompromise techno tool that shows the talent of the berliner dj.

east to west is about horizons. facing the sea, east or west, at dusk or dawn, it never appears the same. we talk about well known territory, the world of move d and benjamin brunn. following a number of collaborations, now for the first time the two present individual works on one record, back to back. this 4-track split ep is a must-have and collector s item: ermitage, a collaboration of moufang, vladimir daronkin and dmitry cherednichenko, recorded in st. petersburg. eastman from moufang s legendary kunststoff album, sounding as fresh as it did 20 years ago received a new finish by dubplates & mastering. brunn makes extensive use of spoken word, an unusual style for him, in da hulk. for d k dates from his tr-707 period and mimics a party in a submarine.

nearly two years ago we released mys/kela by a newish stockholm-based producer who had put out a couple tracks on a couple labels studio barnhus and local talk owned by friends from around town. that produce s name was hnny and a lot has happened since then, both to him and to us. hes gone on to crank out more l.t. 12inches as well as some hes dropped on his yummy and puss imprints, weve gone on to unleash a couple dozen more records and see the list of talent we ve hosted at our parties grow to astounding length. somehow, through it all, we managed to stay close with hnny, whos real name is johan cederberg, and even book him for a couple nyc gigs. the friendship that began so humbly and gently in 2013 has blossomed.
