daniel brandt, co-founder of acclaimed german ensemble brandt brauer frick, is set to release his second solo album for london imprint erased tapes on october 12th. titled channels, the new record follows the release of the london and berlin based producer’s solo debut eternal something from 2017. the seven-track lp is brandt’s biggest statement yet, with the album’s thrilling avant-garde framework interweaving chord-driven techno, orchestral flourishes, rich electronic textures and hints of dark cinematic pop. following on from eternal something, which captured a contemplative kind of isolationism, with channels brandt set out to create an album that captures the essence of minimalism whilst lending it to a more playful context. after performing and recording steve reich’s six pianos in a group of six, brandt began regularly composing long meditations on the piano, something that permeates the sound of the new record. its frenetic energy and shape-shifting identity was also born out of touring with his new band eternal something — comprised of brandt on piano, drums and synthesisers, pascal bideau on guitar and bass, plus florian juncker on trombone — and a desire to translate both the sound and spiritual unity of their live shows in which musicians locked together to create an intriguing meld of expansive works.

a dark journey from electro to bass

please find enclosed the latest body fusion release from label head bobby analog. for this record we have returned to our favoured format of three tracks spread across two sides. the a side features a foray into hip house with some sass and features lots of dx100 bass and m1 keys and strings. on the b side europa kicks things off with lots of juno arpeggiators, chords and 808’s in a homage to our italo friends. we finished things off on the flip with a twisted distorted warped love song. proceeds from the sale of this record go to the struggle to re-unify europe.

up next on phonica white is brooklyn based artist justin cudmore. he is a well-known dj thanks to his memorable sessions at the bunker among other new york and many of the best clubs worldwide as well as teaming up with mike servito and gunnar haslam as hot mix dj collective. as well as djing, justin has always been a fan and creator of dance music, he started being part of chicago’s underground scene, deepening his appreciation for the classic house and acid that you can still feel in these new tracks. this new release follows in the wake of ‘forget it’, his last celebrated ep released by the bunker though in our minds his sound has progressed yet again, sounding fuller, faster and rounder. ‘twisted love’ gets straight to the point, with firm and strong percussion joined to a fickle acid bass line. in addition to this, justin weaves in some house-flavoured vocals to keep you hooked until the end of the track. a certified floor-filler of a track. on the flip is ‘about to burst’, a track that starts with a powerful kick drum and grows with new emerging elements, punchy hi-hats coming and going in key moments and a simple keyboard arpeggio that added to an acid bass line catches you instantly. justin’s new ep is unapologetically aimed at the dancefloor. its primary influence may be detroit-flavoured techno yet you’ll also find chicago house and acid elements floating over its powerful backbone, all combining in devastating way, primed for club use. artwork as always is supplied by the talented pedro carvalho de almeida.

manana presents a new remix ep bringing together some essential re-works of sound species and ache meyis collaboration recordings. originally recorded in 2016 in santiago de cuba during the lead-up to the manana festival in the city, the original sessions were an inspired fusion of ache meyis deep folkloric afro-cuban styles with sound species subtle electronic touches. the new re-works have attracted some familiar names from clubland: broken beat don ig culture keeps the roots of ogun meyi meyi intact with a bass-heavy, percussive attack brilliant uk drummer and producer tom skinner strips back egrem bata jam on a pulsing new version chicago legend ron trent creates a more melodic dancefloor re-work of alinas calypsos while sound species themselves beef up the original afro-haitian rhythms of the same track for a dubbier treatment.

lauer always rhymes with power. proven by countless remixes, productions and projects like arto mwambe, black spuma, talamanca system or tuff city kids and his own-brand. there arent many dance floors left that havent been blessed by all this glory. now, the aptly titled third album of frankfurts prime export regarding all things melodic, teenaged and synthesized, intensifies, condenses and hones the sound, he has been developing for years: a topical take on classic dance and 80ies pop figures, disco music in a closet (lauer is still in denial), singing arpeggios, android choirs, beautiful bass lines and sometimes the apparitional architecture of house music.

coming next from adult only: the repress of one of the most sought-after 12s from the label back catalogue. ao19: “formula express – main course” was originally released in 2002 and featured guillaume la tortue, jef k and chris carrier.
this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who’s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous “electrochoc” book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the “main course”: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier’s related work) is the groove – the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, “starter” stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, “apple pie”, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you’re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.
time for repress.

the dark lord himself has been creating a big stir in both the hardcore and drum & bass scene these last few years. his productions have completely destroyed dance floors all across the globe and to add to that this beast man has undisputedly won the loudness war.

enei returns to the controls for the first time since his and kasra’s “transmitter” ep earlier this year, laying down five future grooves from the lush vocals of long time collaborate charli brix on “faded” to the raw deal of “rats place”. enei on form once again providing the drum & bass autumnal chills.
