i first met leon vynehall in berlin before a gig at the amazing about_blank. we had a fun conversation and he played a really good set that night. much later i realized i had been playing one of his tracks (total s) for ages! we stayed in touch and i asked if i could hear some of his new music. he sent me five tracks and i signed four, that is a pretty good score if you ask me! smart and conscious about his music and his output, i think this ep is really only the beginning for leon vynehall. i am glad i am able to give it a platform and share these amazing tracks with you. also special props to d&m for doing a great mastering job on these. - martyn

every label has a >release of doom<, a 12 inch that was an incredible pain in the ass to put together and where everything imaginable went wrong. well this new trevino record was it! i wont go into details but this ep is too good to let bad karma prevail. >gone< has been a staple in my sets ever since i first heard it and >regnie< is possibly one of the best nighttime highway driving tracks (try it!). trevino, is he the best golfer in techno, or the most innovative techno producer on the golf circuit? fact is, im so happy this record finally sees the light of day and would be even happier if youd be into it too...

over the last year i have traveled to canada frequently for gigs and got to know the small but healthy electronic music scene there. cities like montreal, vancouver and toronto have brought forth many established artists over the past few years, such as egyptrixx, azari & iii, basic soul unit, jacques greene, lunice and sixtoo, but 2012 has seen a new breed of no-nonsense house and techno producers come up via labels like turbo recordings and naked lunch. this *dovercourt ep* features three very talented producers: kevin mcphee, nautiluss and gingy. their tracks are a dedication to their hometown of toronto. being removed from the house/techno epicentres of berlin and london, these three are much less interested in what is fashionable or trendy, and more in bringing us straight to the point, no frails jacking house music. i have been playing these three extensively in my dj sets, and i hope you will too. so out to toronto, this one is for you! enjoy. martyn

this twentieth 3024 release is by my friend trevino. i am particularly proud to put this out because it was trevino (aka marcus intalex), who signed my very first tracks and gave me my break back in 2005 (a 12 inch called get down on his label revolve:r). in the last two years he has started taking his techno more seriously, writing new tracks at a very fast pace. i am glad people are taking notice of his music cos he is the real deal and it was tough picking tracks for this release cos he is making so many! ultimately we chose four that would clearly showcase marcus different sides and styles. so, seven years after my >get down<, i am proudly presenting the mighty trevino with his >tactical manoeuvre ep<.

as obvious as techno and houses heavy influence is on 3024, one of the most consistent reference points has been the machine soul emanating from the city of detroit for the last 30 odd years. we will spare you yet another euro-centric pseudo-sociology lecture but the combination of geography, economics and community has produced music with an influence has consistently reached far beyond michigan state. for our 17th release 3024 is honoured to continue our trek into the analogue wilderness with another artist heavily inspired by the city, berlins near legendary redshape.

fresh from the pleasures of introducing jon convex to the world, 3024 heads off on a pair of tangents for the next project. the 14th release marks the labels first split 12 inch - a result of 2 tracks falling in to their collective lap that were too good to wait for individual releases. despite the 2 very different acts involved, the symmetry in both musical background and production methodology makes for a record as coherent as any in the labels back catalogue, with both artists closely linked to both 3024 and martyns career.

in which 3024s west country takeover continues unabated with addison groove as one of 2010s most celebrated producers fires off a pair of brand new exclusives. >its got me< drags a cornerstone of classic hip hop into the 21st century with trademark spasmodic chicago drum acrobatics and vocal splicing working the track into a frenzy while his less acknowledged way with gauzy analogue textures never allow things to slip into the trap of dance floor bludgeon. minutes of funk dials back the ferocity just enough to open up extra space for more luxurious synth washes and increasingly intricate rhythmic shifts as interlocking traces of dance floor past combine to form the thinking mans set opener.

two brand new tracks from bristols emergent house prodigy. >batty knee dance< brings ultra syncopated 808s, neurotic synths and a mournful vocal refrain together in a tightly packaged low drag configuration. >ribble to amazon< maintains the levels of 808 astro physics but heads for the great outdoors with subtly staggered pads and an impossibly delicate lepidopteran melody basking in a 16:9 sunset.

after a year dominated with collaborations (the great lengths remix double pack), fresh blood and inveterate genre renegades (illum spheres titan ep & altered natives the bitch/crop duster respectively) we at 3024 came to the conclusion a new martyn release was perhaps overdue. not so much an album preview as a standalone document of a year spent expanding dance floor horizons over (a great many) seas. 3024s milestone 10th release arrives in november with 2 brand new martyn tracks as lefthander clatters in on heavily filtered drums, flickering high hats & garbled radio transmissions before a carousel synth melody breaks through the percussive murk accompanied by a roaming bass line that prioritises restraint over bludgeon. dubbed out ambience rapidly takes root in the gaps between concrete snares & dissonant brass stabs as bass and synths elevate themselves for one last round of call & response sparring before dissolving back into barely audible dialogue. steam age industrial monolith shook up swaps slink for haunted metronomic brutality, snapping quickly into focus first with relentless kicks before bass akin to an atari2600 playing berghain looms over the clouded horizon. offsetting the claustrophobia is the first hints of melody as an impossibly slight piano phrase creeps in, countering rhythmical pummelling with ghost in the machine delicacy. classically spastic 808 tendrils are underpinned by soaring synth strings as proceedings draw to a juddering close. capturing 3024s musical progress with typical accuracy erosies latest sleeve design is perhaps his best yet, echoing the back to basics theme with beautifully austere monochrome geometry curdling into something altogether more volatile at the edges

nice price deal !!! >titan<. sometimes titles are just perfect, arent they? its a huge, sprawling beast that seems to inhale every mutant strain of bass music it can and exhales it in one exhilarating 4:20 blast. it opens with ominous rumbling and 8-bit bleeps (and crickets?) before ambient chords ascend out of the depths, dragging a twisting electro synth with them. that pulsating, spiraling synth slinks its way through the gossamer membranes of the track, contracting and expanding as needed, its bulbous, serrated ends emanating industrial howls like ghosts of rave sirens.

the second half of the great lengths remixes package offers 3 more vividly contrasting interpretations of album tracks. almost a year on from the release of his debut album >one< and with >saviour of techno< plaudits still bouncing off concrete walls, berghain lynchpin ben klock turns in a remix of is this insanity that distills everything inspirational about both the club and city he calls home. spaceapes cracked vocal is welded to a sort of cavernous piston driven groove while traces of the originals melody fractured into the briefest of shards fight their way to the surface only to sink back into the percussive smog. located well outside of the heavily scrutinised uk hype centres, manchesters rising star illum sphere continues to hone his already distinct sound on the flipsides brilliant orange reworking. a clanking off kilter groove rubs up against an extended mutation of the original melody that pushes the track towards a poignant climax, evoking all the ache of reaching for the stars and landing squarely on ones face.

ending the brief hiatus that followed the >great lengths< lp and accompanying world tour martyn and 3024 usher in the new decade with a brace of remixes from the deepest recesses of the quasi-house community. first out the gates is 3024-006, helmed by a pair of artists as unique as they are elusive, zomby and redshape.

i always like to think my stuff is music for a warm but rainy day . low frequencies do something to your muscles when you listen to them. there have been studies of low frequencies contracting your muscles, and because they contract certain muscles you have the urge to move, you know, to get rid of that itchy feeling in your arms and legs. so that would be a reason to dance. hailing from eindhoven, which back in the day had ties with many chicago and detroit artists and labels. i think what makes music interesting is when an artist incorporates his/her influences and translates it into a unique sounding style. although it might sound a tad arrogant, i d like to think of my music as martyn music . i try not to think of it as dubstep or techno, or house or drum & bass, it s not about genres, it s about music
