stray gets all jungle juke for the a-side that has been getting battered across festival land this summer. frantic hi-hats, stuttering kicks and pounding 808 bass have made this a crowd favourite – if dubplates still existed they would have been worn out to see-through by now.

nickbee kicks of 2013 with a 12 inch on the horizons music remix label, following up his debut release on horizons at the tail end of 2012 with his well received human / space philosophy 12. rush is bass driven blur of an anthem, memorable hook with nick’s distinct clatter of drums. it is a track which has rocked the floors and we are so glad to have an equally big flip to pair it with. amoss have remixed *human race* original track featuring on the internal affairs volume 2 cd. this remix has been staple in amoss sets, and if you are fan of amoss then you will definitely recognize this one.

footloose vip: amoss bring a 2012 rethink of their track footloose from their 2011 spectrum ep, delivering a broodingly heavy take on the original. the atmospheric intro sets the stage for what is perhaps the duo s most sinister tune to date. with a quick build and the originals dub style vocal hook, the drop hits with a shattering, industrial style weight. booming kicks, combined with smacking snares and shuffling hi-hats sit atop of a pulsing sub whilst airy side chained effects provide a grooving movement throughout. with the second drop a distorted synth delivers a warehouse rave style attitude topping off this grungy slab of steppy drum & bass.

scar: the collaboration between survival and script continues to bear fruit, as evidenced by these three carefully crafted slices of forward thinking drum & bass.

need for mirrors head up horizons 078 with the *food ep*. a symposium of sound that grips you from the very start. an array of brutally hard hitting elements dominate the tracks, whilst not detracting from the musicality and invention of them. with plenty of nods to the past, in particular to the golden era of tech step tunes in the late 90s - this is a modern take on a classic recipe.

horizons music presents their first ever solo single from the one and only, break. constantly a prominent producer within drum & bass for obvious reasons, the bristol based producer and symmetry label boss is renowned for his snappy drums, taut basslines and impeccable production. not many can muster the level of feel-good vibe, whilst keeping a powerful, yet clean and controlled production value, making break one of the most unique producers today.
*moving on* is smattered with sun glazed saxophone and guitar licks, reminiscent of tracks from his debut album *symmetry*. whilst *on the off* dynamically shifts into weightier regions, combining heavy bass stabs with a steadfast drum pattern that confidently cuts through the mix.

amoss step into lively territories with their 2014 return to horizons music. this single sees a vip rework of their 2013 collaboration with mcjc, *bleed it*, originally featured on the dreamthief 4 lp. this rework brings a complete change in groove and mood to the table, incorporating a more syncopated beat with a much deeper bass presence. *calokan* is a throwback to the duos early horizons music releases, but with an added twist. the dramatic and textural intro paired with an array of odd field recordings makes for an intense atmosphere whilst maintaining a heavy underlying sub laden roll. those that are familiar with amoss will know all too well that the second drop always has something special in store, in this case a straight, two step beat smashes through the breakdown, adding a huge switch up to the overall energy of this track.

stentah : since proving a fine collaborative duo in their last horizons music release, dabs and mc kwality return with a doubly as powerful effort. stentah is ruthless to say the least, kwalitys aggressive, yet controlled delivery is complemented by dabs huge, kick drum driven groove. junglistic at its core and massively original.
half truth : smooth yet edgy, ethereal yet raw, half truth is one of those tunes that combines all the elements. a repeating piano sample delivers a constant harmony whilst the faultless beat cuts a passage through the ambience. a throbbing sub provides a resonant, yet tamed bassline that seamlessly pulses underneath the ample body of sonic elements.

footloose: dangerous 2-stepper with a tribalistic tendency. snappy beats, fat bass and a vocal sample that is recognisable in any mix. this tune demonstrates how simplicity can sometimes be the best source of dancefloor funk.
throw back: throw back provides the ultimate turnaround, as lush, warm pads kick this tune off, a false sense of calm is broken apart by a stepping, disjointed beat. delayed fx and distorted reeses fluctuate in and out adding the raw vibe that amoss are known for.
