some proper quality house music on the 3rd and final part in the golden age trilogy by giles and martin aka the two armadillos. think larry heard, norm talley, delano smith and the likes! the a side once again is club track with a modulating, moody heavy, heavy bassline and lots of atmosphere. definitely one for big rooms but for deeper 5am moments with its strings and fluttering hypnotic keys. this has been going down a treat in both giles and martins dj sets for some time. >detroit dancer< has a jazzy scat drum programming, keys, plenty of atmosphere and sparkling synth solos. last up the downtempo musical and downright lazy vibes of >majestic< with its stand up bass, strings and keys play out and signal the final track of the trilogy of releases.

nice price deal !!! being in the same gene pool as pat sharpes hair is enough of a stigma to steer any young djs career off course - deep in the discos of pop trash. fortunately for metaphi / metske, although still benefitting from the same glossy 90s locks as the radio-jock/distant uncle, musical inspiration came from more complex climates. wigflex006 acts as a fine electronic switchboard to metaphis archive of talents, a complicated circuit board of the experimental ranging from hip hop, idm, and garage to blues harmonicas and classical rifts, seamlessly melted into one gloop of green circuitry where each musical discipline must co-exist with another. as metske the bpms hover around 95, the framework is hip-hop, the sound often skwee but the influences thereafter are endless, slow train blues clicks its way through a steam train intro before marring the lines between electronic music and the blues with a self-composed harmonica rift worthy of howlin wolf. at the same tempo spin states delves into the cosmic with pipey neon chords and bit-crunched bass: sega mega drive boss level business. metaphis taste for big room techno is blatant and genetically wigflex over sharpflex, and in terms of nationality its mongrel, half notts, half eastern europe. with concious mentis hes keeping things minimal but charged from lower frequencies and messmode progresses with some serious dancefloor swagger.

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

first up is tabou for the people by sofrito specials featuring l barrabas which twitch edited for his dj sets a couple of years back. the lovely people at sofrito kindly gave permission for it to be included on this release. its a relentlessly driving slab of 4/4 afro funk with horn explosions. next up is the 10th and final track in twitchs cumbia series. the first 8 were released on japans lets get lost label and the missing number 9 is being saved for a future release. colombias cumbia was born out of african influences. this track is based around a sample from colombian cumbia legend andres landero and is an attempt to fuse traditional cumbia sounds with up to date production styles. the end result is a slow motion hypnotic cumbia retaining the haunting melancholia inherent in the original sample. leading the aa side, twitch passed a wild highlife song by ghanas atakoru manu to glasgows super talented auntie flo (whose highly recommended future rhythm machine album recently saw a release) to play around with. auntie flo cut it up and added additional drums and bass to come up with this euphoric modern highlife groover

marius vareid revisists the title track of last years debut album in two version here and other than the connotation that telemark evokes, its perfect summer bizniss in the 12inch edit version thanks to its bobbing flanger chords, the unhurriedly striding bass melody and the carefree clattering percussion. the klubb version sticks to its promise, keeps the trademark chords but they sound way more athletic in its sparser environment of beefed up drums and frantic percussion. powered by a slightly moody feeling bassline and its buoyant, exuberant synth melodies the brand new il tempo gigante on the flip is a prime example of the scintillating, heady mixture of disco roots, house and dub antics. as an extra bonus prins thomas adds a tropical-sticky interpretation of villa farris (originall version on fp024)

tireless producer, tronic boss and top international dj christian smith here steps up for his first release on plus 8. over the years christian has offered up a high volume and high quantity of techno inclined singles for myriad labels (bedrock, systematic, 100percent pure, soma), so it only makes sense he now finds himself on one of the scenes most reliable outposts for such material. the two track ep kicks off with house is house which is, as the name suggests, a little house-ier than the flip, but still deals in plenty of heavy bass weight and slick repetition. the devil is in the detail filtered, dark voices, rattling cowbells, washes of white noise synths and long, thin, forward looking pads - all of which are married to a mid-tempo groove. the more forceful indulge me then follows. taught kick drums start immediately as claps and subtle synth stabs swell in volume until they eventually fill out the whole airwaves. squirming behind are thin and icy steel lines until the first drop when the deliciously bouncy groove sets in proper. far from aping the usual detroit and chicago tropes, christian smith has once again crafted two classy dance floor joints that are not only exquisitely produced, but that bare all the usual hallmarks of christian smith, one of the most consistent producers in the game.

jmx makes his second appearance for us after his remix on the atapy ep last year. also known as one half of belfast duo jet project, jmxs solo project takes influence from everything from old mood ii swing records to modern day bass music creating a raw sound that is completely his own.
we have got a few remixes on this one: first up is krl, on loan from the excellent wolf music, with a deeper take of >on u<. moscows s.k.a.m. turns in a remix ahead of his debut ep for us in july (more on that soon).

steve bug drops a new outstanding 12inch on his own highly prolific poker flat recordings. those grooves is the perfect primer for his upcoming album (due out in autumn 2012), and sees the man in fine form - masterfully in control of his sound and producing tracks with a depth of dancefloor knowledge most other producers would die for. those grooves, the lead track locks into its exquisitely crafted groove early on, holding a taut balance between its individual elements. mid way through its 10 minutes, bug drops the tempo and lets the groove breath, before bringing it all back home - an audacious late night club weapon. the flip side is no less dramatic – tell me why creeps up, evolving slowing but surely – before an edgy, freaked out bass line drops over the crisp drums. a true peak time burner with enough energy and tension to smash any floor.

for its 35th release, be as one continues to keep its unique trademark sound, and this time the israeli imprint has looked in its own backyard to find the goods. magit cacoon, dj and producer, tel aviv born and berlin resident, and popsled, israeli duo composed of guy astrogano and niv konforty land on be as one with higher point, which brings a classic house mood on the dance floor, with its very hypnotic vocal, the big bassline and driving groove. greek house star argy is an apt remixer for this type of track and indeed, no surprise he delivers a storming remix that again hints a lot to the classic sounds of house and techno. detroit legend rolando closes the package with his techno takes on the tune, a rather hypnotic version, bass infected and driven by rolandos trademark drums patterns.

earnest endeavourss third ep comes from the cult new york and los angeles experimental mc and producer duo of jimmy jams and bobby evans aka widows. their self titled widows ep is a wildly creative debut release of drums, raps and electronics that sounds like the future but uncannily like a distant past - utopian, poetic, bass-driven music underpinned by the utter freedom of creative expression.

anhura vinyls debut in the exclusive and acclaimed vinyl edition is, as it was expected, a complete success. max chapman & aj christou are in charge of gruds & kecks. this release starts with a moderate disco house nearly background melody at some points, and evolves into more tech grounds which plunge us directly in a deep, retro-spatial sphere. a place where this electronic and bass sounds coming from the 80s and 90s provide it with amazing timelessness whenever it is heard. it is an uncommon release diverging from the mainstream and ideal to start a completely promising series.

this new ep on vinyl dogboy kiosk eclectic records, shows two facets of this parisian producer. it transports us into his personal electronic music and festive first dogfunk, a punchy front, dance floor and groovy, this piece makes us dance on the funky bass music. on the other side bad dog, dogboy delivers here a deep bass music, relentless volatile and planing. yoshh! for its 22nd output, kiosk eclectic is glad to welcome a new comer on its wax series, the so called dogboy. the parisian based producer unleashed there 2 angles of his work. 4x4 bassline to start with a side, and its excellent efficient bassline groovy attitude. featuring the flip, were on a more glitchy & atmospheric level with a nice upfront dubstep tune
