nach zwei alben auf dem britischen label planet mu (heimat von künstlern wie mu-ziq und venetian snares) schließen sich solar bears nun sunday best an. als große fans von david lynch wurden sie auf das label aufmerksam. “advancement” hat alles, was etwa boards of canada-fans glücklich machen sollte. psychedelische soundscapes gekoppelt an modernste elektronik, flirrende ambient-passagen genauso wie knackige beats als kontra-punkt. wurde schon der vorgänger “supermigration” mit reichlich lob bedacht, führt “advancement” das konzept nun weiter. die beiden musiker david kowalski und rian trench aus dublin haben sich abermals mit dem amerikanischen film-regisseur micheal robinson zusammengetan, der das werk mit einer serie von video-clips im netz begleitet. so finden die sowieso soundtrack-geeigneten stücke eine großartige visuelle entsprechung.

daniel solar is one half of dikso, the excellent edits imprint responsible for many a disco-rinsed dancefloor burner over the last year. the hannover native is also one of berlins emergent talents, a dj, producer, label owner and a&r intent on bridging the gap between disco and dance music, while coaxing the techno-loving citys tastes a little further off the beaten track.
as a child of the early 80s, daniel was strongly influenced by synth pop and dance music, before rap and hip hop caught his imagination and inspired his first forays into production. once he had finished school, daniel became more and more and intrigued with house and techno, clubs and raves, and his studio style expanded to take in electro, techno, and deep house until we arrive at today and his latest release: too much light ep.

solar bears music is a many-faceted soundworld that hangs together through a mix of the rich colours of hip hop inflected analogue electronica with touches of the shimmering neon synths of late 70s early 80s kosmiche music.

fifth release on the acclaimed imprint from those lovely people over at the acclaimed sleazybeats blog. the dust just doesnt seem to settle at team sleazy who are set to unleash their fifth dish of mid-tempo filth. sbr005 should likely round out what has undoubtedly been more than a successful year for the sleazy beats crew. as hard as it might seem to upstage their recent sampler, this release by berliner daniel solar (of no more hits and dikso fame) is another trio of totally on point sleazy business which showcases daniels stellar skills. things start off with midfidelity funk, a snappy romp through steady synth and disco string territory. this little number delivers a perfectly spell-binding groove with nicely placed rhodes stabs, crisp tambourines and haunting vocal at the breaks. on the flip, twinkle love snaps out a sweet melange of piano, guitar/bass riff and morphing vocals that combine to give a lively mood and open atmospherics. finally, rounding up the ep is la fleur, a wonky yet punchy cut thats ripe with staunch drum sounds and strings amidst loopy vocal snippets for good measure. all three tracks ride a 110ish bpm groove that is likely to ring bells for those who have been following and digging the sleazy sound so far. the last few releases all sold out in a matter of weeks, so dont sleep on this. you know the drill by now: limited release, no repress.
