emotional rescue returns to the the work of remix specialists extraordinaire, razormaid, with a special collection of their remixes of cold wave / dark wave synth band, psyche. featuring unreleased, re-edited and remastered versions of some of the bands most club-based tracks on one ep for the first time. formed in 1982 in edmonton, canada by darrin and stephen huss out of love of the new electronic sounds emanating out of europe, psyche soon forged their own path. influenced by the industrial and post-punk sounds of bands like killing joke and alien sex fiend, as well as the synth pop melodies of groups like soft cell and yazoo, the brothers help precipitate the start of darker electronic goth sound.

dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record, where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal, ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure, which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride, while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.

hailing from france but now based in tokyo, jazzy couscous is a label that explores all kinds of sounds pivoting around the axis of jazz and deep house, but keeping things wide open for variety and experimentation. following releases from brawther, klodio and more besides, it s time for a hefty various artists release that shows off a whole heap of talent. matthieu faubourg keeps thing pumping and detroit-flavoured on a long way, while drezb smooths things out to a chez damier-influenced deep house groove. pascal viscardi gets things properly jacking on the deep-diving digital illusion, and then the record closes out with the blissful ambient excursion of midori featuring victor santonis distance.

four tracks of ny-flavoured boogie and house goodness - quality is the key word from copenhagen based music for dreams and here is another home run. willie graff splits his year between dj residencies in new york and ibiza. in this new outing with studio partner darren eboli, the influence is, as the title suggests, clearly ny-based. over only four tracks, the pair manage to craft a stunningly comprehensive exploration of the essential elements of dance music. opening track -love flight- staggers into a lush string-driven groove that recalls the glory of metro area meets wally badarou vibes. minimal yet playful, it lounges somewhere in the depths of the house tradition, calling on familiar sounds while throwing in odd details along the way (harmonicas?). it takes both skill, devotion and a sense of humor to pull this track off, making for a strong opening. -moon tan- lingers on a metallic hook that drags you into a plethora of percussion followed by a rubbery soft baseline. dubby key work would suggest this was a new wave band jamming at compass point, while the icy chill of the xylophone transports you into 80s italo territory. -second sun- pulls out the bag of boogie tricks, relying on a firm but humble baseline and smattering drum machine claps. nile rodgers-style guitar licks guide us onwards into a well-orchestrated jam that builds up and breaks down with perfect timing while dreamy chords reach for the sky. -first light- keeps the groove tight while dipping over towards more balearic temperatures. steeped in a watery atmosphere and gentle organic percussion, it focuses in on a trance-inducing arpeggio that lulls you in to the swaying badarou-style synth swirls that intercept it.

on a chance encounter whilst producing in nashville of all places, zepherin was so blown away by vocalists he was using to do backing on a project, that he immediately felt inspired to record a new version of raphael saadiqs classic skyy, can you feel me. originally used in his sets as an edit, zepherin had the soulful house community going into a frenzy with hopes for its release. tried and tested on dance floors around the globe in his sets its now primed and ready for release.

edmondson first came to my attention with his lobster theramin distributed release, flamingo tripper, on his own label lissoms. or so i thought. turns out he was actually a guy who used to serve me in one of my favourite pubs in newcastle. back in those days he was a dub step / drum and bass kid, and as per the trend with all of those guys, hes now showing the house heads how its done, with a much keener feel for sound design, groove and a better ear for a sample than 90% of us lazy people who cut our teeth on a 4/4 beat. edmondson (or sean as i did know him and how i know him once again) is really one of the most exciting producers out there right now for me, and i couldnt be happier that weve reconnected and hes kindly allowed me me me to present some of his amazing music. we have love is an instant classic, and psg is a work of pure emotive art. to remix we have love, ive enlisted dauwd (fresh from his amazing album on technicolour). sean suggested him, and i jumped on the suggestion as he was one of the first people i met when i moved to berlin 4 years ago, and ive been trying to figure out a way of working with him since. he takes a we have love down a kind of more delicate and steppy route. its very pretty, but also really makes you want to dance. to remix psg i asked asok. again, i thought i first met asok about 7 or 8 years ago, when he came and played for a party i used to throw in newcastle. after becoming good friends over the years, we got chatting and it turned out that we were both in magaluf in 1998, and may have actually been involved in the same street brawl. thats not something either of us are proud of, but its definitely food for thought. i’m biased, but i think his remix is my favourite thing he’s ever done, and i love everything he’s touched musically to date, so thats probably an even bigger endorsement than it first seems. his version is big.

perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

born in poland and now operating out of the ever-effervescent london, the adoptive city where she’s learnt the ropes of music production and djing, anii – real name ania iwinska – has lived many lives in one. yet if one thing’s remained a constant over the years, no matter the harshness of the obstacles life threw at her, it’s indeed a deep and inextinguishable love for music, be it behind the mixing desk at wired studios or in her own shoreditch workroom, the key place where she’s kept honing her skills with unfazed diligence, up to the point of making it her actual second home. a&#324,,,,,,,,ii lands her debut transmission on kompakt and surely not the last. named after the polish word for ‘roots’, ‘korzenie’ finds ania threading her way in between subtle deep-house and techno folds, delving into the essential strength of her past and present to carve out an hypnotic maelstrom of traditional polish music strings, tribal percussions and elegiac melodies. coupling eerie ostinatos with stealthy bass moves, it’s an ode to the magnitude of memory and power of resilience that reels out, blurring the line between late night club environment and further spacious, moony soundscapes.

nyc native eric maltz has been a professional producer and pianist for more than 20 years. after landing on the techno scene in 2017 with the double vinyl “ns-17” ep on levon vincent’s novel sound, eric maltz releases his first single on his own label flower myth. opening on the title track , a bruising slice of machine techno, the live touch of the new-york producer stands out throughout “pathway”. on “ah-shu-de-ohu”, paranoid chimes swirl out of focus while chopped up vocals command attention. free floating chords glide through a meditative soundscape on closer “line through”. flower myth will release 4 more singles from eric maltz throughout 2018, one of them a collaboration with cristina valentina, the powerful voice from “we have power” (ns17). having recently signed with uzuri booking and artist management, eric will soon be bringing his singular live techno to his home-base city of berlin and other major cities across europe and the world.

waggons marks the third motip white release on dorfjungs. after the two previous eps »lywer bent« and »the white ep« this one feels drunken yet still more defined. motip white delivers four thrilling tracks composed of colourful and warm techno, house and electronic hybrids. his ep contains bass driven dance songs as well as cautious and charming anthems. while every song has got its special elements with the typical motip white sound, they all work equally well on the dance floor and at home. the smooth and calm fourth track ends the vinyl but is actually caught up by the euphoric digital bonus »simia«, which brings the ep to a surprising though satisfying (digital) end.

cocktail d amore showed the breadth of their tastes when they reissued ukranian composer iury lechs 1990 album musica para el fin de los cantos last year. now the label has commissioned a raft of remixes from some label regulars, with wonderful and diverse results. powder drops her signature snaking rhythmic trysts over barreras, while -cuando rocio dispara sus flechas benefits from an abstract, ambient reworking from suzanne kraft. hatchback takes to posmeridiano with a delicate touch, all lingering 80s synth motifs in a beatless reverie, and zavoloka lays the cinematic intensity on heavy with the icy strains of ukraina.

moby has released a new single and video for “like a motherless child,” from his forthcoming album everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt. featuring la-based soulstress raquel rodriguez, “like a motherless child” is a re-work of the well-known spiritual, with its origins in the slavery of the american south. the track describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. over the years this powerful song has been reinterpreted by the likes of odetta, lena horne, mahalia jackson and van morrison. the album is a glowing tapestry exploring spirituality, individuality and the brokenness of humanity and finds him returning to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop and gospel roots.

the fourth release of bassiani was dedicated to various artists. starting from cassegrains track departure seven, we encounter a completely new and unfamiliar artist ersatz olfolks with his track straight road. hector oaks strikes with old school atmosphere by move on circles, walk on lines, while thomas hessler competes the circle with melancholic vibe by his track memories.

the second modugroove installment from the 100hz studio is a mixture of live improvised session recordings and arranged music taken also from live studio recordings. 2 tracks are collaboration projects with good friends of mine who happen to be great artists. we have 1 from richard rogers aka black booby and myself and 1 from julian giles and me aka junction chaos. this 4 track ep spans several styles of music from deep techno to graceful and emotive string dance. the focus of the ep and the label is the unusual, trying to not use usual drum patterns and 4 beat structures

after bringing kangaroo skull and cale sexton to light on previous releases, temporal cast once again provides a platform for lesser known talent with this, their third release. born in italy and based in australia, this release marks a big milestone for her. pulsar is a subtle and refined opening gambit, using a reduced set of cyclical rhythms and draping distant pad notes over the top of it for a perfect exercise in techno elegance. moebius is at the other end of the spectrum, all bloated drums and cavernous reverb decays creating a monolithic atmosphere. anomaly meanwhile maximises on negative space, using a dry drum palette and keeping things firmly submerged the whole ep is a masterclass of restraint and control.

robin ball has been on a roll of late, flaunting his wares on the memory box label amongst others. he makes a second outing on groovepressure with four tracks of dynamic, inventive machine jams touching on synthwave influences and a healthy dose of electro. there s atmosphere loaded into each of these forthright, roughly hewn workouts, not least on the eerie, trancey synth strings on mr mumble. the b side features the steadiest material in the shape of two versions of satin that tap into the housier end of ball s output.

seeking the overwhelming vibration of the genuine sound wave and its profound echo on the soul, kenneth james gibson has spent his career experimenting under a variety of aliases like as many brushstrokes to an ever polymorphic palette - successively releasing as apendics.shuffle, bell gardens, reverse commuter, dubloner, kenneth james g., kj gibbs, bal cath, eight frozen modules, and premature wig… the list is long. near to two years after his first incursion on kompakt with his third studio lp the evening falls , gibson returns with in the fields of nothing , his second full-length delivery for the cologne-based imprint.

instrumental music is supposed to be asemantic and yet a rich language of rhetorical gestures has grown up around it. none of them may have a specific meaning but they easily lead the listener towards an emotion, a sensation, an embryonic story. does any of this mean that music is abstract? or does it, to the contrary, mean that music tells a story? there is no abstraction without a story. is there a story without an abstraction? the composition on this album, is it a radio play? tropa macaca = andré abel and joana da conceição check out their earlier albums, they’re just as great.

genosha basic artists, ghost in the machine make their perc trax debut! full picture sleeve perc trax returns to the dance floor after the political firestorm that was perc s bitter music with the debut release on the label from the netherland s ghost in the machine. the perc and therefore perc trax name stems from the word percussion and these three drum-focused tracks sum up the label s name perfectly. rarely appearing away from their own genosha basic imprint this ep hits as hard as anything on perc trax in recent years and along with recent releases from ansome and scalameriya ushers in a new wave of artists and a distinct new chapter in the perc trax story. the holy grill commands the whole of the a-side and charges forward until a reese led breakdown gives you a moment to pause for breath. the b-side contains two percussive workouts that have enough movement and development to them to elevate them above simple drum tools. as b2 track pskdt s locked groove loops endlessly (a first for perc trax), it is clear this ep is a hard-hitting statement of intent from a duo you should be hearing a lot more on perc trax in the near future.

dimi angelis is a pivotal element in european and universal techno scene, alone or teaming up with jeroen search his tunes has been around from quite a while and finally he is landing with a complete ep in warm up. dimi provides three energetic cuts, fast, dirty, futuristic and funky all at once.

italian techno producer distant echoes presents the first ep of the new year -rough waves-, a four-track pack out on the berlin-based, southern-italy born out-er label.
distant echoes has been building a name in the last few years since he debuted on the dystopian label in 2014 and toured all around the world, yet, he s been producing and playing electronic/house/techno music since almost two decades. as out-er co-founder, he previously released music before the beginning of his bond with dystopian. in the last years, while distant echoes has mostly focused on releasing on dystopian, out-er has indeed expanded its range of collaborations worldwide, by putting out music from juan atkins, orlando voorn, terrence dixon and more.
distant echoes now readies the first installment on his own label with his newest moniker, showcasing his typical sound: deep, intense grooves and gloomy soundscapes crafted with exceptional productional accuracy.

e ruscha v, who has previously released on the label under the secret circuit moniker, comes back with his first full-length under his given name. ruscha describes who are you as spanning states “from calm to ecstatic but mostly in-between these.” this description points toward the liminal atmospherics of the music, which dispose of the many hallmark genre traces that informed secret circuit’s galactic journeying. for who are you, ruscha was content to wander more intimate environments, in search of an uncharted music rippling with humble discovery. the vinyl release includesd a download code.

we live in the time when rave is the word that is only used when people want to describe a fierce party or to describe colors, styles and some types of electronic music. basically, the word -rave- became sort of a metaphor. but back in the days, it was the name for the revolution, no less than that. warehouse memories was born to give a direction to that revolution, this is rave 001.

irst release for the imago series of the label black chrysalis archives. all tracks by matter, exept the track b1, written~~and produced by matter and r²p.~~matter is fabrizio matrone aka heidseck. after releasing several records produced by labels such as the ukrainian~~kvitnu, le petit machiniste (germany) and soviet media kontrol (us), matter joins the black chrysalis archives (italy)~~family, with this 4 track work, named dangerous vision, for the bca imago series.~~the record winds through a scratchy and dirty taste of capturing electronic music. r²p (retina.it, ruhig and prg/m)~~precious collaboration fuses to the work. the track b1 (the preserving machine) in fact is part of a ten hand take at sy6~~studio. impregnated by a more minimalistic and essential approach to think about techno, this track gives to b side a~~particular deep clubbing techno flavour of european tradition.

björk has released two remixes of the track ‘blissing me’, from the current album ‘utopia’, one which strips back the existing layers of song to purely her voice and a harp arrangement by herself, and another by the enigmatic artist serpentwithfeet who has gifted his heavenly gospel tones to the track.

genesa records continues to push newcomers in 2018. this time we have a split ep by the dutch duo phobia and the italian producer blacksun. both projects have released on the label’s digital only series in the past and have proven themselves with bold and effective productions. for this ep, they conjured astonishing tracks that make a must-have release for vinyl djs!

after a first ep of the year from stl, the solar phenomena label now welcomes romania’s romansoff. the raw tools label boss hails from bucharest and has also released his gritty, stripped back house and techno on creme organization and sportiv. here he offers four new tracks, with one remix from timedance man ploy completing the package.
halo epitomises romansoff’s style with its slow, heavy drums and sparse, scattered perc sounds. a lo-fi melody adds colour, while coach jacket ups the ante with busier claps and crashing hits laid over a turbulent, unsettled bassline. increasing the pressure further, graded grows manic with punchy drums, layers of fuzzy synths and bass and distant cries that are dark and unsettling. ploy flips this one into a prickly and atmospheric drum track that keeps you on edge.
