BUSINESS EP (MATHEW JONSONS LATE FOR WORK REMIX) (140 GR)
12" Vinyl UK28.05.18
20/20 vision welcome nathan jonson to the label to deliver some of his esteemed beats - he was previously known as hrdvision, and as a member of midnight operator alongside his infamous brother mathew. it is in fact mj who gets the run of the a side with a bouncing, bubbly remix of -business- that calls to mind some of the most wriggly threads in that unmistakable jonson sound. -let your body- strikes a different tone on the b-side, conjuring up some rave ghosts and decanting them into a thoroughly modern club burner heavy on the dramatic arrangement and sure to create wild responses on the dancefloor. -business- in its original form is a loose and funky-as-hell electro jam with live, glutinous monosynth flex and detroit-tinted pads to die for.
CROSS COLOURS (LUKE VIBERT, RALPH LAWSON & RUI-Z, DOKTA REMIX)
12" Vinyl UK19.04.17
up next on 20/20 vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving nathan jonson. following a decade of producing and dj ing as hrdvsion, nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. cross colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for. when we heard cross colours we were all in agreement that luke vibert would be the perfect remixer. luckily luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. the b side is rounded off with a club focused version from ralph lawson & rui-z (which has already being championed by seth troxler on his most recent essential mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year.
nicholas iammatteo, better known as simply nicholas to most has racked up an impressive backcatalogue since stepping onto the scene in 2011, racking up material on some of the industries leading imprints such as quintessentials, 4lux, home taping is killing music and needwant.
the past year for laurence blake aka citizen has been an ever-evolving rise to fame, with material on kerri chandler’s madtech and madhouse imprints, as well as highly praised singles for love fever and w&o street tracks. here laurence pushes on for whats set to be another amazing year for the artist, with a single for 2020vision, joining the likes of audiojack, fcl, huxley, crazy p and motor city drum ensemble on the roster.
after four impressive releases from the likes of ossie and behling & simpson, 2020 midnight visions kicks of its attack on 2013 with a new ep from the uks doc daneeka. last year saw doc team up with benjamin damage for a well received full length on 50 weapons, they live!, which stood apart for its pioneering hybridisation of house, bass and techno. here, on his own terms, doc explores a more extroverted, melodically rich variant of bass heavy house across all four tracks.
2020 midnight visions return with another superb ep of fresh club music. the third release on the new offshoot label comes from hollands presk whose previously released on ramp offshoot fourth wave and on doc daneekas ten thousand yen label.
jay bliss is our first ever romanian signing. there has been a influx of superb romanian producers over the last years including a:rpia:r and the trend continues with bliss and his hermanndstadt collective. developing a style sitting somewhere between house and techno, with strong detroit roots he has released for the likes of immigrant, hudd trax and diynamic. pluto has been a staple of ralph lawsons sets for a while now, its a smooth and crisp tech house roller that recalls classic 2020 releases gone by, especially those of carl finlows. on the flip weve turned to skudge to give us their own take on pluto. weve been fans of skudge since they dropped their first single, and have had us transfixed with their excursions into pure analogue, loopy, dub techno ever since. their version of pluto is a different beast to the original, all stuttering percussion and menacing strings, a perfect counterbalance to the original version
the minds behind somethinksounds and 2020 vision have linked up to launch 2020 midnight visions,a new, forward-thinking dance imprint with a strong visual focus.the imprints inaugural release will come from brixton native ph0t0machine on may 28, the on u ep. with a&r being handled by kazim kazim kazim of garage aficionados somethinksounds, 2020 midnight visions will look to bring forward adiverse pool of artists at the forefront of electronic music.the labels artwork and creative direction will also feature an integrated visual aspect by simon wellbellove, and additional releases have already been lined up for 2012 from presk, doc daneeka, and ossie.
simon bakers debut album traces saw the london based producer record a superb, honest reflection of his influences and took his deep house sound into a long playing format that was critically acclaimed across the board. let me in was one of two tracks that featured vocals from debukas that were highlights of the album, and it returns in original album version and with an excellent remix from lee curtiss. lee curtiss is currently riding high after great releases on spectral sound and get physical, an excellent cd compilation for watergate and as part of the visionquest collective. his version is a remix in the truest form, he treats the original with respect, but twists and turns it very much into his own track, perfectly fine tuned for club sets and soundsystems. this combined with the awesome original provides another essential simon baker and 2020vision collaboration
freak seven is nav akhtar from manchester. he has previously released as freak seven for the new religion label and last year landed his debut on rush hour with the massive nano kids . we bring the music sees him team up again with aniff akinowla on vocals for another superb slice of raw analogue house music. jimpster delivers an excellent remix in vocal and dub forms in his slick deep house style.
taken from the forthcoming album !!knives was produced during the album sessions, but works best as a single for djs as its a massive club track. paul woolford has been the track playing in every set recently. this is the first single to be released from >the truth<, paul woolfords new artist album, and this is the only way vinyl fans can get hold of tracks from paul woolford presents bobby peru >the truth<. knives is purpose built for sound systems the world over. direct floor techno with some quick edits and quirky touches.
LONDON NIGHTS EP (FEAT JASON HEATH, BURNSKI & RALPH LAWSON REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK09.03.18
dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record, where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal, ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure, which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride, while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.
ltd 2016 repress !!
stuttgarts motor city drum ensemble (aka danillo plessow aka inverse cinematics),presents a superb ep of deep house taking its cues from berlin and detroit. 2008 was a great year for motor city drum ensemble releasing parts one and two of the highly acclaimed raw cuts series which featured heavily in many best of 2008 house music charts. he finished the year with an excellent resident advisor podcast and a set at the resident advisor christmas party. his ‘get slapped up’ release on compost black and ‘breath control’ release on his own four roses label have been in the boxes of taste maker djs and seen him become an in demand producer. danillo is also a part of the inverse cinematics production team who have released on pulver, fuid ounce showcasing his more jazzy, broken beat production style. this debut 2020 release features three superb tracks that take their inspiration from the likes of theo parrish and carl craig as well as the deep house sound of berlin, yet retain the signature mcde sound.
in the wake of a truly stellar 2014, premiesku (livio & roby plus good friend george g) is still 3 men on a mechanical mission. in 2014, as well as travelling the globe to show their skills on their self made machines, they quickly had a huge impact on not only the romanian scene, where they hail from, but also the worldwide electronic scene. their expertly crafted, percussive club weapons have become something of a trademark for the boys and their debut ep for 20/20 vision once again sees them utilise their production arsenal.
london based producer io sounds has been making big shapes in the underground over the past few years, the rising artist dropped an exciting collaborative ep with lakosa via kerri chandlers madtech imprint last year, as well as a remix for chandlers long-running madhouse label. weve also heard outstanding guest mixes for cameo on bbcs 1xtra and coco coles capital fm show. with this in mind its no surprise to see the enigmatic producer snapped up for a series of releases on 2020vision, a label that has a knack for finding talent in the early stages of their career
fcl is the pairing of two reputable producers in the underground house circuit, namely san soda & red d, individually and under the fcl guise, both artists have made a huge impact, although retained a quality over quantity approach, with only a string of releases out there on the likes of we play house, ferrispark, and delusions of grandeur. although these singles acted a striking indication of quality with each one garnering huge support from the masses, especially the duos critically acclaimed lets go, on the 2010 vocals for everyone ep
dj w!lds history in music dates back to the tail end of the 80s where his young and fascinated mind embraced the explosion of graffiti culture, disco, funk and hip-hop in his hometown of dijon. later as the infectious sounds of detroit techno and chicago house filtered through to europe, and laurent garnier exposed them to paris, w lds interest was peaked and a move to the capital was made. hes now at the forefront of electronic music culture, djing at some of the worlds leading nightclubs and boasting releases on off, robsoul and adult only, as well as running his own catwash and the w label imprints.
kid cultures experience in the electronic music has been firmly rooted from amsterdams thriving scene, the city where he currently resides, the diverse nature of the music scene in his home-town has given culture a wide array of soundscapes to influence his music, taking inspiration from jazz, funk, and hip-hop as well as house and techno.
the release kicks off with title track find my way which features exciting young vocalist, ria morans heartfelt tones. cade opts for swinging 909 drums and a hooky bass-lick as the driving force, while morans voice sporadically eases in and out of the groove and understated chord stabs and tension building strings fuel the musicality, resulting in a classy, deep-house workout. up next is dr. fox, embracing a similar deep, contemporary house aesthetic, with saw-wave bass hits, cosseting pads and hooky vocal snippets acting as the fundamental elements of the cut, cade then plays on subtle variations in the groove throughout its near seven minute duration, to maintain an evolving dynamism and enticement. entering the latter half of the single we have ghostryder up first, cade opts for a more upfront approach this time, bringing busy drum programming to the forefront, alongside sweeping synth tones, a tom-driven bass line and dubbed out vocal licks.
nice price deal !!! rob amboule is a relatively fresh name on the scene, the young artist stepped onto 2020visions radar following the london based producers self released white-label, kerri01. a record which put amboule on the map and was heavily supported by the likes of paul woolford, who closed the space terrace with one of the cuts last year, and heidi on her radio 1 show. this introductory single has now led to a full ep of original material for 2020 here, joining the likes of ejeca, huxley and maya jane coles on the roster.
nice price deal !!! debukas follows up his two critically acclaimed eps with another superb emission of underground electronics with a pop sensibility. his way of approaching electronic music been compared to the likes of john talabot, caribou and hot chip in the way he mixes his pop and underground influences.
2020vision mark their 250th release with a very fitting project from the originator of the label ralph lawson. lawson presents a selection of classic mixes and unreleased gems produced alongside his original production partner carl finlow.
jump kicks things off in style here, with its off-kilter drums creating a bumpy, energetic vibe, while bright chord progressions, hi-strings and looming, drawn-out bass tones create the melodic depths. sampled and manipulated vocal snippets are also introduced building their own melodic movement, while the envelopes of each element are subtly tweaked to falter and evolve throughout the records duration.
crazy p return with the final remixes from the when we on album. these three remixes were the exclusive new mixes on the recent digital only remix album, but its only fair that remixes of this quality come out on wax.
nice price deal !!! ltd nice price action!! the debut debukas ep firmly planted him as one to watch, with four tracks that explored underground electronics with a pop sensibility and a grounding in classic house and techno. this new seven track ep continues down this route with his rich analogue sound and soulful vocals again taking centre stage.
tuccillo made his 2020 debut in 2011 with the excellent mathematics ep which was one of our top sellers of the year and featured password that became bit of an underground ibiza anthem in the hands of luciano and at dc10.
joyce muniz is a vienna-based, brazilian dj, vocalist and producer. muniz was introduced to us by maya jane coles and we are proud to increase our female talent at the label. joyce is currently one of the leaders of a new style which fuses european club sounds with rhythmic influences from south america and the caribbean. she has collaborated with stereotyp, louie austen and munk, and her solo outings for exploited have been getting rave reviews
their debut 2020 release sees them deliver another great ep of deep and distinct house grooves built around some choice samples and classic drums and pads. the lead track confessing is built around an old soul acapella that really raises the track head and shoulders over its peers. on the flip c mon (start moving) again plays with some classy samples, but in a more subtle fashion, arranging them around some slinky synth melodies and some slick old skool drums.
ppbr streetgang have a long lasting relationship with 2020vision, through the various record shops, dancefloors and after parties shared in leeds over the years. they have also remixed tracks from the last two crazy p albums for the label. as residents at we love at space ibiza theyve carved a niche as a classy dj double act as adept at backroom disco sets or terrace filling house tear ups, all delivered with a smattering of funk and good times. their debut 2020 ep follows up their >downstroke< release for hot creations, a huge throbbing low slung houser indebted to mike dunns classic >god made me phunky<. this ep continues the vibe of this last release, all tracks drip with funk in a sleazy house flavour with a definite disco edge. much like the pbr dj sound they have now found a trademark production style that utilises their love of a body shaking bassline, crisp beats, quirky samples and a unifying groove.
huxley is fast becoming one of the brightest lights to emerge from an exciting nascent uk music scene, emerging from the underground clubs of london, bristol, leeds and glasgow. young producers are honing their talents to create new sounds influenced by the their exposure to house, techno, dubstep and garage music. when 2020vision approached huxley we specifically requested that he created a four track ep that truly reflected his skills. he responded superbly and produced the out the box ep.
following the critically acclaimed success of their 5th album, when we on, crazy p return with a new single, beatbox, on december 6th. released on 12inch vinyl, beatbox has now been remixed by some of the freshest producers around, pbr streetgang, breach and debukas
audiojack return to 2020 after a year or so setting up their imprint gruuv. the new single >get serious< shows the duo not only mature as artists but also develop and hone their sound to new house themed productions. the title track is state of the art bounce in a box with a killer vocal hook, >let the rhythm take you<, meandering around sweet insistent stabs. its been smashing terraces, rooftops and discotheques all summer and now its finally available for our select dj friends to carry on the vibes through autumn. >polka dot dress< comes spotted with a sound originally created on the classic korg m1 synth and used by mk to devastating effect in the 90s. audiojack have then sprinkled their magic dust on it and added sweeping detroit techno strings, tight drums and healthy amounts of bottom end rumble. as we look forward it is important to know your roots and audiojack show they know their house history by covering the all time classic by the backroom - definition of a track. no samples at all were used and the guys worked out and replayed all the synth parts before adding new vocals from kevin knapp. by beefing up the original we hope a new generation of djs and clubbers bust out this amazing track. it deserves to be heard again and is produced and primed for todays dancefloors.
GREY AREA (STEVE BUG / BURNSKI & ROBERT JAMES REMIX)
12" Vinyl UK30.08.11
one of the stand out moments and most in demand club tracks from the simon baker >traces< album returns in remixed form, alongside the vinyl edit of simons original. its taken us a while to get pokerflat head honcho and all round german house music legend steve bug on board for a remix, but its worth the wait as he delivers a lesson in refined, deep house music. next up burnski and robert james deliver a mammoth, hypnotic jam that twists and turns for 10 minutes and still leaves you wanting more.
tuccillo is a rare producer as he lives and works in ibiza all year round rather than flies in for the summer. the white island is without doubt the most overused and abused place on earth for dance music promotion, but beneath the glam superficial surface a real scene of native island talent is emerging. so when it came to making an ep for 2020vision we pushed the artist as far as we felt he could go, to explore new untried directions and show his diversity. tuccillo showed his true spirit and worked though a few knockbacks from our a/r team until we were happy we had the best ep possible at this moment
his debut four track ep highlights his individual approach to song writing with the gorgeous, deep and moody >i am machinery<, a fitting title for a track where the human voice integrates seamlessly into the analogue electronics of the machines. >pointers’ changes the mood and aims at the dancefloor, with strings and synths fully indebted to detroit techno, but with a constant human touch from his jazzy scat cutting in and out of the heavy groove. >some days< has the biggest sound on the ep with multiple vocal tracks layering over the crisp drums and pulsating synths. hes combined his keen ear for melody and a firm grasp of the dancefloor for this track, making it many djs favourite on the ep due to a club friendly structure, yet striking originality. >set myself on fire< closes the ep at a mellow tempo, and can easily hypnotise the listener with its repetitive vocals, haunting whistles and sleazy beats. this is only for the beginning for debukas, these four tracks are just an introduction to one of the finest talents from the uk electronic underground
so it was a massive pleasure that maya chose 2020vision for her next full single release. when we discussed the project with her we agreed it was vital to put together a single that truly reflected her diverse tastes and skills. the title track >focus now< is a unique work that will be hard to even categorise. reminiscent of early matthew jonson records >focus now< features delicate synth sequences weaving in and out of intricate rhythms. it sounds amazing on big systems, like at fabric, where it was road tested by ralph lawson at the recent 2020vision party. it is one to drop at the right time to make a real change in mood and set direction. we then have >little one< which is a solid deep house groove, simple but effective. vocal snippets are added by mjc herself on both tracks but her true vocal talents are shown on >senseless<...
the opening track from the debut simon baker album was always going to be a strong choice to be the first single. no pressure has received unanimous praise since the albums release and is back with new remixes by art department and simon himself. its rare to get great stand out vocal tracks that dont split opinion, but this seems to be one of them. its slick, deep house of the highest calibre with a stand out hooky vocal from debukas. art department, owners of ras number one track of 2010 drop a superb remix, adding new vocals and teasing debukas back into the mix for a pretty special, hypnotic workout. simons >upstate dub< mix finishes things off. it aims things directly at the dancefloor in his signature, deep and twisting style.
adam shelton & subb-an have single handedly made birmingham cool over the last few years with their infamous below gigs at the rainbow. >feel so real< reflects the duos work at its height. it is a classic sounding house record with familiar vocal hooks, warm chords and throbbing drums. it stands out from the crowd in much the same way fcls >lets go< did last year. is it old or is it new? old school sensibilities brought right up to date with cutting edge production skills. so it was with this thought in mind that we approached new 2020 signings fcl to remix. they have added their own vocals and developed the hook into a synth heavy workout. the pack comes complete with another track >inside my head< which features a line many will remember from nights spent at warehouse raves, one for the spotters.
nice price deal !!! langerwartetes debutalbum der renommierten techno/house-produzenten simon baker nach zahlreichen releases auf playhouse, get physical, cocoon, classic & 20:20 vision. baker beschränkt sich auf >traces< auf seine instinkte und liefert pure 4/4 house music mit soul & deepness ab, ohne downtempo/soundtrack-experimente oder sonstigen schnickschnack., incl two non cd tracks, also incl the 11 track cd album !!!
2020vision welcome and.id to the family. and.id is known for his releases on anja schneider’s mobilee label, recent remixes of steve lawler (viva) and timewriter (plastic city) and a superb live show that has been taken in fabric and panorama bar.
crazy p return to 2020vision with their first new material since the stop space return album. the mts series is a chance for jim & chris to get back to basics and produce some club tracks for their in demand dj sets, before they reconvene with the rest of the band for their next album. already making waves with both of their soloexcursions (ron basejam and hot toddy), they team up here for two perfect examples of their trademark disco and house vibes. crazy p are quite rightly held in great esteem from some of the hippest names around, wolf & lamb, jamie jones and tensnake to name three. they have been ploughing their own deep disco furrow for many years waiting for fashion to catch them up, and now can take the plaudits for being figureheads of this uk scene. my love is a superb raw house cut, thats custom built for sweaty basement sessions, influenced by classic us house. make me wanna takes a moreunk riffs and diva vocals. both of superb examples of the amazing crazy p sound and have had unanimous glowing feedback from the few people lucky enough to have heard them so far
amazing doublepack vinyl introduction to new 2020 vision signings morning factory. naming yourselves after a ron trent & chez damier track is a pretty strong statement of intent and you have to have the deep house chops to match. luckily these two guys from the netherlands can walk the walk, this doublepack release harks back to the golden era of deep house. the four tracks are all linked by their deep and grooving atmospheric. from the deep slow detroit sound of >dedication<, to the hypnotic drum workout of >btraxx<, to the bolshie >bouncing moog< to the infectious lead track >lovedazin.< previously receiving on yore records these guys are only starting out, but this release is bound to put them on the map.
hector has long been one of the most in demand djs on the underground london scene and has now become an equally successful producer releasing for mobilee, crosstown rebels, horizontal, phonica, 8bit and cecille. through his job at londons house and techno mecca phonica records he has continually had his finger on the pulse of new, cutting edge music.
the three tracks on the ep are evidence that the best music stands the test of time. harking back to the crisp and innocent early sound of house music, but recreated in the present hector fills the speakers with an energetic and rough tracky sound, tailor made for the dancefloor.
blimey! we thought we had fallen into a wormhole and woken up in 92! 2020 soundsystems enduring lp favourite and one of the live shows highlights gets put through the downtown ny meat-grinder by tbd. brought on board as prospective remixers after last years immense all ears distributed >what is this< the tbd duo have taken this one on a three-day bender across the big apple! sleep deprived and pounded into submission by unrelenting kick drums and dustbin lid percussion, not to mention enough growling synth action to satisfy the hungriest of addled brains, the two mixes barely made it back home to leeds alive! you have been warned!
this ep features remixes from italian tech house maestro hugo and danish deep house stalwart martinez, who have both produced stunning mixes. hugo is one of the most in demand and best selling producers at the moment, with productions and remixes on the likes of tuning spork, viva, systematic and tongut.
ludovic llorca returns with another superb art of tones release with fellow countryman jaw (dop) supplying some stunning vocals. on remix duty is the enormously talented motor city drum ensemble, back on 2020 after his lonely one single. his remix is a huge deep, dark and brooding detroit house take on the original and has already been licensed to nrk for a steve bug compilation. this is trademark 2020vision deep electronic soul music!
2020vision bring you a superb snapshot of the underground amsterdam scene. following his massive remix of the simon baker track æway out of my headÆ, julien chaptal steps up for his debut 2020 single, with fellow amsterdam based producer lauhaus on remix duties. julienÆs album ætokensÆ on key dutch label remote area is one of the best long players to bubble up from the underground this year. although a parisian at heart, julienÆs been living in amsterdam for almost a decade and has become a must-see name on the live techno circuit in holland. the underground amsterdam electronic underground is one of the most respected scenes in europe. spearheaded by labels like 100% pure, intacto and remote area and producers like shinedoe, 2000 and one, kabale und liebe & daniel sanchez, bart skils & anton pieete, polder, lauhaus & boris werner and julien chaptal himself. lauhaus is another in demand producer from amsterdam and his recent remixes of æflowingÆ by the bluesmen and æpay for meÆ by daniel steinberg have been hits on the underground house and techno scenes.

>beaten< is the first track to be released from random factor’s new album and comes with excellent art of tones remixes.carl a finlow again shows his history and pedigree as well as his refusal to jump on bandwagons and trends by producing timeless electronic music inspired more by kraftwerk, yello, stockhausen, tomita, prince, sakamoto, brian eno and the white noise than by what’s playing this summer at dc10. ralph lawson used >beaten< as the last track on his recent 2020vision compilation. this jerky sporadic groove gives a nod to the forefathers while holding down a beat anyone would be proud of. the single comes complete with remixes from art of tones, fresh after last year’s huge >praise<. this mystery outfit has now signed to 2020vision and this is the first of many bombs from them. art of tones take the track directly to the dancefloor and produce two versions that would slay berlin’s panorama bar at 9 on a sunday morning.
dj onionz needing no introduction to house heads, this prolific dj and producer began his career in the early 80s, playing parties in his native queens, nyc before taking his music across the globe. >play dat song< is an electronic jackin house monster with a bass hook that grooves throughout the track. it s latin tribal drums and electronic stabs cause mayhem on the floor and a cool vocal sample raises its head. >pokin u< has the same quality production and bass driven groove with great breakdowns and more of a techy vibe that would rock sets from carter to pete tong, whilst keeping the trademark onionz latin influences... limited backstock

>through the door< is a classic chacona production - atmospheric space funk, combining more synths than a jean michel jarre stage show, solid disco beats and eyes firmly on the dancefloor. imagine lindstrom on disco biscuits and you get the idea. >the next< wears its italo influences on its sleeve, and will appeal to fans of francisco, morgan geist and chicken lips. the disco synths return (he loves his synths!) and ride over shuffling percussion, a rubbery bass and build into an epic piece of 21st. century disco
