these days house music is often about a 4/4 beat and a catchy groove. the idea is to do something simple to which you can get your groove and, and not so much about listening. the borders of electronic dance music makes room for the hypnotic beats, the driving grooves, but not always the melodic universes. leman & dieckmann have been making music for several years, both together and apart, but almost all of their music was driven mainly by the beat. but both having an urge to discover the dynamics of melodic synths and melodic percussion they decided to make an album. they agreed that the album had to tell a story, and like so many times before in music the topic became love. the story they try to tell through the music on the album *takes two* is the story of a breakup, the denial of the need of love, and the discover of the fact that often in life it takes two, to be happy.

industry sheds all personalized effort and tests how far you can get by using presets only. all sounds are factory presets of 3 obsolete 1990s japanese workstation synths, all effects are presets, all notes are quantized and most panning is purely accidental (laid out in the preset sounds). industry doesnt rely on successful presets, but on failed sounds of now obsolete synthesizers - industrial assumptions of where culture will go, but where it chose not to. the result is a surprisingly pleasant listening experience with effortless grooves and rich textures - and mildly demonic connotations. from smooth to kicking - a conveyor belt enjoying mood swings. as beautiful as the scheduled meeting of a pvc sheet and a thermoform mould on a workbench.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

here it comes the third release from rising label with an original track from deepbass, another rising artist, that gives the name and life to this record and gets completed by remixes from abstract division, max_m and p.e.a.r.l. the original track, -sleepwaker-, is a deep gummy trip into the deepbass world, shaped on modern techno. following, we can find abstract division remix, where the dutch guys goes on purposing a very beautiful version keeping at time an eye posted to the dance floor. on the b side we can find max_m s version, a track that goes punchy and energetic from the beginning while keeping all the essence from the original, simply and very effective. p.e.a.r.l. closes the ep going darker and harder with a broken track, -loopy- and powerful version to complete another finest techno ep.

as festival season goes on forever, so can the models four tracks. these heavy hitting floor stompers are pretty much the differece between slow-burners and longplay tracks.

side a: palace of change. written in 2011 this one is from the vaults, it came at a time when i wanted change in my music to break away from being diamond eye and move to a more upbeat and uplifting sound, while retaining my signature spiritual and thoughtful approach to music. side b: auf deutsch. an out there rhythm structure that encompasses the half time approach to techno, a contrast to the a side, this has a more lean back and shoulder movement groove, suitable for either side, but can t have light without shadow.

black drop effects is named after the black drop effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, venus becoming teardropshaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. all four tracks on this ep from italian-born producer palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing. the ep surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony.

revno return and how! the mysterious gino fontaine is unmasked - a nom de plume for non other than the chicken lipped, emperor machinist himself, andy meecham time and again he has proved his mettle, and it is safe to say this is an absolute killer, with esteemed gentleman of dance music, bill brewster having already picked up on lead cut *revnorev* for his acclaimed after dark (nightshift) compilation and quite right too, if you can find a better example of an anthemic light / dark chug-fest, we would be happy to hear it! the mix featured here is an exclusive version for this 12 inch alone! scorching bass pulses and atmospherics, powered by synthesized drums finally give way to a cool chicy guitar line and ymo style top lines for an epic space-disco finale… konkondo graces the flip, and could easily be a mysterious early 80’s cosmic holy grail with its gentle wave washes gradually unfurling into an mesmerising roland bassline and back again. a stunning release then, limited and lovely as ever - dont sleep !

time will tell they say, and so it didnt… *lebush* had been lost in the minibar archive since 2005, making a few strongly unnoticed reappearances year in, year out, before finally ending up on glucks *…just the tip* ep today. the package comes with a self-explanatory lebush-kickmix version by cabanne, as well as two debilitating slices of interstellar ear pain called *in lov* and *werehouse*, both recorded while performing freestyle dentistry on a dead yet actively reluctant coat hanger. while doctors, surgeons and butchers the world over can only frown, you can get your own copy before they’re banned in your country.

for most people, seth troxler is a name associated with detroit-leaning house and techno. yet this only scratches the surface of troxler s musical outlook, hence the formation of soft touch records, an imprint focused on peeling back the layers of the exotic and the strange, where interstellar guitar, calypso disco and seductive techno tracks can come together in unison and feel totally at home. on the labels first 10- release, long time friend and guy gerber collaborator, clarian, collects three tracks for soft001, a kaleidoscopic journey through 6am electronics, afro-beat indie pop and sixties west coast heartbreak. it s a bold opening statement for a label prepared to break the mould, get you on the floor with a whispered promise through the dry ice.

a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.
