next up in the apparel music limited series is loure with a 4 track ep which also includes a remix by saine. the name of this work by the aussie is smooth talk and it contains all the stylistic elements that make the melbournian one of the most talented in the scene at the moment. the ep kicks off with the title track which can be certified as a dancefloor banger with its solid rhythmics and the smooth synths playing along with a hint of acid keeps going with mutual motion which gives a display of what this guy can do in terms of creating spacey deep harmonies, such a groovy way to lower the tones before the remix of the 1st track smooth talk. saine here puts his signature once again with another banging tune crafted on loure sounds, adding his touch with deep percussions, a substantial compact beat with a bass-line that will get you carried away. the closing track is the right decompression after a journey through sounds: rolling snares, vocal samples chasing each other and a happy touch to finish in style.

imogen have stumbled across a rare gem here, presenting some previously unheard liquid funk jams from the lesser known chicago pioneer james perri. some of his jams as jimi polo are perennial classics, while his time spent in soul ii soul and elsewhere are testament to his gifts, but this particular set of recordings from the 90s have lain in wait for their time to shine. you can hear his skills as a session musician and arranger coming through in abundance on this warm, grooving, acid jazz inflected ep. 70s theme is a sparse, moody jazz funk cut, while brother beware is a smooth, sultry slice of message soul. express yourself is the truly uplifting slice of the pie, and it will chime just fine with any lovers of that classic soul ii soul sound.

on a chance encounter whilst producing in nashville of all places, zepherin was so blown away by vocalists he was using to do backing on a project, that he immediately felt inspired to record a new version of raphael saadiqs classic skyy, can you feel me. originally used in his sets as an edit, zepherin had the soulful house community going into a frenzy with hopes for its release. tried and tested on dance floors around the globe in his sets its now primed and ready for release.

the levels of deep that trinidadian deep can reach with his sound are almost unfathomable, and he s at it once again for deepartsounds. as if he needed any help getting down low, sarignia bonfa lends her steamy vocals to i need you- and the trademark trini sound gets into a whole new realm of sensuality. fusion pulls things out of the boudoir and into the sunlight, bringing some of that infectious, uplifting soul to the table that he made his name on. future funk places some synths at the front of the mix and sharpens the edges of the drumming, giving the brain one last blast before allstarr motomusic steps up for a remix of i need you that goes down very smooth indeed.

for our second ep, we are shifting from manila, philippines, to our other home city, bangkok, the thai kingdom’s capital. hailing from here is dott, one of three founders of more rice, a truly home grown bangkok electronic producer, dj and the talent behind mah noi ep. dott already has a number of releases under his belt and is now a regular on the asian circuit, playing gigs around the region. at 26 years old this is quite impres- sive and we are very proud to be releasing his first pressed record under more rice.
mah noi ep embodies dott’s sound, which is deep, driven and moody, whilst keeping an organic twist throughout and clearly inspired by his home country, the key to setting the release apart and making it tasty for more rice. the careful and precise placement of vintage thai samples gives it that extra flavour and mystery that can engulf the listeners and dancers, whilst the remix by eric volta truly transports you to another dimension.

adrix (p stands for produtor) is one of those contemporary puzzles: born and raised in lisbon, of angolan descent, he moved to manchester at 19, three years ago. we can say the nervous interplay between bass and beat stems from just that. fierce, techy, twitchy grooves run through the whole of -Álbum desconhecido-. it’s in the blood. not surprisingly, adrix has a soft spot for drum ’n’ bass but that’s because it clicked with the adrenalin rush leaping out of kuduro, his true long-standing obsession.

a mysterious new label launches with a double lp that ranges from ambient, house, 2-step, breaks and techno. this idea originated from collaborations that the artist had with musicians from different spectrums of the universe but by keeping an open mind and a positive attitude they were able to create music and a deeper respect and understanding for the others art form, opening themselves up to infinite possibilities outside the normal realm of the comfort zone. the relative positivity project will consist of solo projects as well as collaborations with people that have had a positive impact on the life of the artist.

when daniel kyo was producing galaxy in his studio he stood up and felt it. following several months of what he calls a -musical reset-, he knew he d hit something special. after releasing music for a decade, core might be the boldest step in his career. a new identity in which all his influences finally come together into an absolutely fresh perspective. melodies are still the main driving force of the five cuts in galaxy , but the approach is more raw and heartfelt, injecting the kind of vivacity that determines if a track it s simply a product of it s time or if it becomes timeless. borrowing elements from the cosmic side of techno, the darkest corners of trance and the glacial atmospheres of synthwave, all of the tracks in this ep ooze the kind of immediacy and transcendence you can only find in the best 90 s dance music. driven by is interest in astronomy, daniel says he tried to achieve an -outer space feeling-, we can only add that embracing the void was never so gratifying. the 12- comes housed in a sleeve designed by barcelona-based artist alicia carrera.

the pampa, filled with enigmatic lines and geoglyphs known as nazca, gives name to this record label. nazca records was created to collect the music that viracochas (beings of other worlds), shared with the ancient nazca people, known for their love for music, dance and nature. these recordings represent the music that was once played in another time and that will be played again in the future…they are the memories of the future. each vinyl and recording tells a story of the memories from each ceremony that took place in the pampa colorada, from music that was played, and of the figures and lines that the nazcas used to show their gratitude to the viracochas. maybe you’re wondering how its possible or how we were able to capture those recordings in nazca records to then press to vinyl. it has been discovered that if an intelligent or exotic species wanted to connect to others, they would use radio signals as they can travel any distance and require very little energy to send. the logical wave frequency to communicate would be 1420 megahertz, which is the frequency irradiated by the neutral hydrogen, when its atoms interact between each other. based on this info and knowing that hydrogen is the most abundant element in space, and after a lot of tries, in the end we were finally able to make the first contact with the viracochas! this third vinyl contains recordings of the viracocha thodoris triantafillou. a disc, a journey, a history, a contact narrated along 2 tracks and completed by the remix of one of the most famous viracochas remembered love over entropy.

nanni and francois le roy are both accomplished producers and djs in their own right. together as ruff stuff they make extremely well produced tracks that always have one thing in common – making dancefloors go crazy. after starting their own vinyl-only imprint (ruff stuff music) with four fully sold out releases, we are excited to get four banging disco house heaters that work equally well as dj tools and at a house party.
implementing their knowledge gained as hard-core clubbers throughout the 90s, nanny and francois make tracks that they know will evoke strong reactions from the dance floor. this release is equal parts thumping, driving, peak-time house and bright and beautiful disco bangers with a bit of italo flare! with its beautifully worked afro samples mixed perfectly with techno-infused house drums and hats, “kiss of death” is set to be huge on dancefloors from the clubs in berlin and london to the open fields of dekmantel and dimensions.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit ‘on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

last summer during an evening spent with my friend dj topha, we came upon the everlasting subject of old versus new. i m finding so much great music right now, and not just digging back in time but exploring our own timeline geographically too, he said, the level of production these days is rising fast. you have to check out these snippets from a new label based in casablanca. not long after, in an interesting twist of fate, driss bennis and i began to exchange music: i shared his soundcloud for the first casa voyager release, and he sent me a promo copy which i played out a lot. it seemed only logical to ask him for music for basic moves. later that summer we met in paris for a convivial back to back at dawidu s shop, te iubesc records and sapology. it was as simple as that, and in a few weeks basic moves 04 was ready. night train and overseas blew me away by their quality - the tracks are retro-esque yet fresh, and stem from a loose approach to electro. their arrangements are very smart, not everything is revealed the first time round. the more you listen, the more you understand that the power of the tracks lies in the details. together with ailsa s artwork, stefan s cut and chris mixes the release fell so smoothly into place. i have come to realise how important it is for the scene to release recently produced music as well as treasures from the past. you can t build a community by only playing old records. it s about a combination, about finding gems that glide together. old and new. and for that, i think both these dj booth tracks really fit the bill.

there is no doubt that bobby moore is an absolute f***ing legend, and a true icon r.i.p. a hero who lifted the world cup for england at wembley. he is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, and was cited by pele as the greatest defender that he had ever played against. a leader of the highest quality and a true inspiration to us all. we would love to say that neil diablo shares these traits and acomplishments but his bewuda ep is tribute enough to one of footballs gretaest ever captians. the ep itself is a remix record , the track is called bewuda, and what a track it is. a 6 min trancy club banger. 808 drums all over the place give it a 90s vibe but with mr diablos signiture italo feel. and what we can we say about his team mates. coyote, tiago & dawn again on the same record.yes please! the coyote boys dont mess around at all. straight into a ravey, sweeping banger.teasing balaerica but keepng it a fully loaded dance floor bomb.tiago does what tiago does. his signiture sunshine vibe oozing out of the track from start to finish. the drums are something to behold and the piano riff drop packs a real punch. and last but not least our mate from melbourne dawn again tears up the track and brings us a classic weird re-triangluation in true banging dawn again fashion. big record from team rothmans for their 15th release!

ess o ess (aka chris stoker and jamie blanco) return to not an animal to further indulge in the organic house territories previously mined for the previous releases. the duo have an uncanny nack for deftly balancing the rockier end of disco with the authenticity of early house, and never more so than on -secret place. the original bounces and struts in a pleasingly groove laden hypnotic fashion, while the dub version turns down the guitars and turns up the synthesisers for a more heads-down dance floor excursion. on remix detail kuniyuki takahashi makes his 1st appearance on the label. on the vinyl you ll find an interpretation which can be best be described as pitched-down balearic-techno, which clicks, clacks and folds upon itself, drowning in waves of reverbed drama-drums at a deceptively low tempo. kuniyuki also provides a second remix as a digital exclusive, mildly pulling back on the pomp of the vinyl version, but replacing it with a spacious pathos, complete with backwards guitars that reminiscent of an electronic within without you era beatles. angaphora make their naar debut with their own wildly stirring remix of the lead track, which evokes the golden era of 80s melodic pop music to bewildering success, laden with digitised emotion, singing ebow guitar, and not a kick drum in site.

2018 will see the ever-influential acid jazz records celebrate thirty years at the forefront of the uk soul jazz scene. with co- founder eddie piller still at the helm the label continues to stride forwards both with new artists whilst also uncovering old classics. following the recent and definitive career spanning compilation anthology: 1972 -1984, acid jazz are pleased to announce details of two further leroy hutson albums, the reputation enhancing hutson and hutson ii will be available for the first time in over twenty years on vinyl.

rumours believes that the only way to harmony is by allowing yourself to be extreme in every way. after listening to megamix for the first time, the origin of the name reveals itself after every track you hear. rumours are hannah vandenbussche and jonas boermans (both active at monami), birds-singer pieter-jan cools and brutus drummer stefanie mannaerts. they joined forces a few years ago to produce something they call sjamaanhop. a self-invented term that best can be defined as an enchanting combination of techno and trip hop. it’s as if the knife and crystal castles suddenly found the ideal pool partners in four tet and nosaj thing. where rumours is known for their dark, fast paced and heartfelt live sets, they show they ve got more to them in their first studio album. influences from every corner creep into the songs, which makes it a quiet unusual, but balanced album. a mishmash of melancholy (every cry for help needs a saving anthem), a certain tint of sadness and that one urgent place in our hearts that we call desire. for the visual aspect of the album, the spanish party island ibiza was an obvious choice for the band. the destination was not only a refuge, it was a place where hope and grief can exist together.

east man is a new project from anthoney hart and its material predates his previous work as basic rhythm. his unique take on grime reduces the sound to its steely fundamentals, bringing in influences from dancehall, drum and bass and techno to gird the voices of the mcs he works with. his own name for this hardcore continuum mongrel is hi tek.
anthoney struck a friendship with the academic and theorist paul gilroy, who wrote the album introduction below, after starting personal research on representations of working class and mixed race families. he asked paul for some help after coming across his work via stuart hall, paul’s mentor. their discussions and friendship developed, and it dawned on anthoney that his research and the east man album had some synergy, so he asked paul to write a piece conveying that.

with his album in between re:deep presents not only an impressive specimen of his musical spectrum. the artist also merges deep house elements and experimental folk as well as extremely minimized indie pop into a whole new sound concept. re:deep intensively bends the boundaries of the genres, delves deep into the soundscapes of different epochs and styles. thereby warmly crackling field recordings blend into analogue basslines and sequencers as well as melancholic guitar drones meet sensitive vocals. the always smoothly appearing and cocooning sound is the subtle recurring theme of the whole album, which develops a close intimacy and captivates by its analogue warmth, which you can t escape of. tender strings float on vibrant drums and wafting surfaces. the album features the japanese artist cokiyu, her voice in combination with the arrangement form a symbiotic relationship and evolve wearing lights into a journey through slowly drifting electronica landscapes. the field recordings, which were made - inter alia - in iceland s rough countryside, are particularly noticeable between the lines and infuse the soul of the album as well as the love to detail in general. a total of nine tracks are featured on the album, which convince not only by their sound density and close interconnectedness, but also by the shift in emotions. music, that is enjoyable at your home as well as on the dancefloor and - after all -just touches your body and soul.

surely one of the most famous song that franck produced in his entire career.. the combination between him and mandel turner (naturally born in usa) was explosive the day they created this songin avery naive and uncalculated way .it all started from a beat on a mpc with a minimal hook and a bassline.. franck called his long time friend mandel turner to join him in his studio and explained him that the idea was not to do a classic garage song but to make it in a modern way. the result was to work on a strong chorus without verses etc .that we can found on every classic songs. we gived a demo track to appolonia guys wich were in ibiza starting their new residency at dc10 and it has been played the whole summer and all clubbers in ibiza knew this song and became a underground hit when it came out.. franck asked to his close friends (seuil etc..) and producers to give another interpretation of this song because he knew that his friends loved already this song.. so they gave to this song a new life few month later after the success of the original release. today we got ion one wax different versions of this song for different time to be played and different audiences.

paal is passionate about hardware - analog drum machines, synths and pedals are tracked through a mixing desk, raw and unedited. imperfections intrinsic to this process are essential to him and give his sound a unique character - warm, organic and, at times, lo-fi and grainy. this can be heard throughout the ep. the voi 011 also marks a shift in cover artwork as voitax departs from the utilitarian, hand-stamped labels of the first releases - german photographer nina roders, has conceptualised a series of her unique photographs for the forthcoming ten-part ep series.

hobor is part of many groups and formations himself, such as songs for pneumonia or cointel allstars and the event-series fiktion+masse. his solo project is mainly known for extended dj-sets on various ambient-floors in leipzig and his live-sets - which could be described as cautious investigations into micro-sounds - are mainly based on his work with modular synthesizers. his debut-album on ph17 is a minimalistic, conceptual work that focuses on sound as much as on the way electronic music usually plays. all tracks consist of almost independent layers of sound that behave like improvising musicians. they seem to play together but by focusing on one of them you soon realise they’re actually stoically sticking to there own rhythm and repetition and as the tracks play on these layers of sound start to form ever different constellations. no wonder hobor says he took inspiration from improvising bands like the necks. his album is as fascinating and hypnotizing as one of their live-jams. “constellations is released on 50 limited tapes.

frank is the latest release from dolfin records, a texas indie label with a prominent underground roster that includes rapper lord byron, producer ben hixon, r&b singer jon bap, and former stanley clarke drummer mike mitchell. liv.e is one of the newer artists on the label, having previously collaborated with hixon through a series of dj parties in dallas (“new math mondays”). hixon and bap have significant marks on this project, providing production, mixing, and background vocals. the beats they lend are often heavy on the drums, with short, hazy riffs that resemble dilla-style syncopated loops. frank opens with a short hiss, launching into a jittery pattern of cymbals and drums, stinging bass slaps, and bouncy guitar riffs. you can almost see the tape reels rolling in front of you as the instrumental loops play themselves out with occasional flutters and skips. a chorus of voices enter with harmonies out of the george clinton songbook, blending in behind the slow, finger-snapping beat. it sounds more like a lost, dusty funk recording from the ’70s than an r&b song made in 2017. -nitish pahwa (passion of the weiss)
