last year saw casablanca-based cosmo records launch its most ambitious project todate, celebrating five years of cross-cultural collaboration. the three vinyl releasesfeatured producers such as san proper, radiq, pier bucci and dandy jack working with moroccan musicians to create a true fusion between modern electronics and ancient traditions. the purpose of cosmo has always been to find a natural meeting place between thesedistinct musical forms, bringing out the best strengths of each practice through real time spent together in the studio, where each artist can truly understand the other in a shared quest for sonic harmony. as such, this latest release marks a step forward in exploring this idea through a new series entitled cosmo jam. as the title suggests, the focus here is on live improvisation. in late 2014 parisian producers masomenos and vadim svoboda travelled to morocco and set up their equipment at the coda casablanca music center. they were joined by m’hamed el menjra playing bass, abdessamad boussahfa on violin and sanhaji on darbuka, and the ensuing jam sessions between these musicians now make their way on to vinyl. no editing or post-production took place – the music you hear on the record was created entirely in the moment. each track highlights the magic of a different instrument – on “be” menjra’s double bass comes twisting through effects processing and subtle distortion, meeting with a low-slung broken beat groove from the visiting french producers. sanhaji’s thrilling percussive flair on the darbuka flirts perfectly with the crisp programming of drums and bass on the uptempo “kaled” and the more laid-back “petit”. boussahfa’s violin makes for some of the most arresting moments on the release, meeting with intricate minimalist rhythms on “mon” and shining in the heart-rending ambience of “frere”. presented across two 12”s, this collection of six tracks tells a most honest account of how gifted artists from entirely different disciplines can find a common ground and create something truly unique. without any studio trickery to hide behind, this is the concept of cosmo records laid bare, and the results prove it is a concept worth exploring further.

karim sahraoui, known by releases on labels such as transmat, cocoon and arts, as well as dj appearances on boiler room and on dancefloors all around the world, makes his debut on off recordings. book of life is a melodic techno track in karim s signature style. warm and emotional, albeit with a strong drive for the dancefloor, it can set a strong accent in a set. italy s dast created a slamming peaktime techno interpretation, which is sure to create a massive effect on the dancefloor. syncopated chords and a rolling groove build towards an epic break. -exodus- is aptly named as a perfect track to close the set by the end of the night. lush and warm pads and melodies evoke a warm and optimistic atmosphere. anton pieete remixed exodus with a minimalistic and more groove-focused interpretation. altogether an ep with a timeless feel, spanning the borders between techno, house and electronica.

after a longer than usual break gamm enterprises is back on black plastic but more important... we got a brand new design! for those who don t know gamm has been delivering dance music of the blacker kind for almost 15 years but always with the same look. basically, a visual facelift was long overdue. but we think you ll feel it as much as we do and it really works beautifully with our musical ideology. so, for the (new) premier release we got an incognito producer that is rumoured to come from a small town in mexico. having finally agreed for a brief skype call he appeared wearing none other than a bright luchador mask and giving one-word answers with a strong mexican accent. no matter how convincing that was we still can t help thinking his name sounds pretty close to another producer that is to put it mildly, pretty hyped at the moment. musically the ep is ranging from percussive carnival disco (carnival in manchester) to brazilian fusion grooves (jazz in italics) and independent disco/funk (dues paid fast). either way you ll definitely find something that will work your party. gamm is back and back with musical vengeance!

new years deal - , fresh from guesting on the debut powell lp sport (xl recordings), and having released on labels such as the tapeworm, entracte, and halcyon veil, dale cornish now presents clap - four rhythmic experiments that explore the mesmeric tones of the digital clap using the ever-popular tr909 clap pre-set. sharing similarities in intention with n.m.os as strict as possible approach, pieces subtly evolve and mutate around the clap to generate motion, tension and action. oolovka takes an unashamedly joyous look at the clap, where melodic repetition whirls and whirls until it takes on a form of mesmerising minimalism – perhaps taking its cues from a modern take on steve reichs ‘music for 18 musicians’ as a backdrop for the clap to playfully roll over and mutate into a sound which is both refreshingly light hearted yet steeped in rhythmic experimentation. cxema takes us a into a tenser, more claustrophobic space where a heads down pulse keeps the body locked until the fog is occasionally broken and the tension momentarily cleared via delayed claps and familiar sonar tones. this vibe continues into isolate with cornish upping the anxiety by using the clap as a foreboding menace. coming across like an inspired soundtrack to a military performance piece the concern appears to revolve around strict precision and strict movement and how the clap can be used to enforce and heighten this functional display. before encore winds things down by stripping things back to the bare minimum for movement – a single effected clap gradually layers and layers itself to create pleasingly odd high tension atmospherics solely through a meticulous process of delicate rhythm and repetition.

the white man & the arab return with their fifth release, the exchange ep, further developing the sound that s made their previous four outings so alluring.informed by a range of cues that reflect the pairs influences, you can sense dub, ambient, minimal, a love for eerie melodies and raw deepness permeating from this ep’s start to finish. the a side kicks off with -on the floor- - a nod to the fact that the whole ep was crafted literally on the floor (the studio was in transition ) - signals what awaits the listener for the duration of the ep. moody pads, slowly progressing melodies and their signature syncopated drum patterns. -people say- follows next, instantly shifting up a gear - this is a solid dancefloor shaker with a simple but seriously effective bassline that will be lodged in your brain, a sharp hi-hat & clap combo and a disembodied, haunting vocal that chants along to the beat. flip the record over for the title track - -the exchange- - a reverb-drenched ethereal club cut that gets it s unstoppable sense of motion from the irresistible percussion workout, while the squelchy acid line adds that extra rawness. rounding off the ep -sideways- signals a distinct nod to detroit. no homage in sight though - it s been carefully distilled via their own signature processes resulting in a somewhat emotional, dubbed out track - perfect supplement for when you re starting to land back to earth

mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that’s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

equinox i hits it right in the centre, with vibes perfect for either sunset or sunrise. the hypnotic sequence will cut through your brain and makes sure you don’t even know if it’s night or day. equinox ii represents the night. again an incredible solid sequence, but with a raw edge assisted by a haunting soundscape doing justice to the dark. no one is safe for this killer. when day time arrives you will be introduced to equinox iii. this seems to be the most friendly track, but don’t let it fool you. a smart percussive rhythm does the magic and creates the hypnotic experience you can expect from p.e.a.r.l.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

killer electro/wave tracks by black pond. black pond is a collaboration of underground star beta evers and jeff galea from the legendary eleven pond. known for her solo work as well as various collaborative projects, beta evers can be considered the godmother of german electro wave. her beats are strict while her voice is cool and deep. jeff galea, who founded eleven pond in the mid-80s, is the master of energizing bass lines and emotional synth melodies. deepest chasms reflects their shared darkness in four melodic and atmospheric synthwave tracks that won t let go of you.

under the tablecloth of steve murphy and die roh first releases, madi grein has recently collaborated with sagats (boss of noho records) for two exciting 90s flavoured ep for housewax and eat more house. being a full time of the riviera and the vape/vulcano projects, he can be considered without doubts a true ambassador of the sound of brenta. “mainly love” is a truly dancefloor ep, raw and old-schoolish. clean drums drive an hypnotic vocal hook on “mantide”,sleaking a visceral dribbling bass. “express yourself”, has been heavily influenced from a short trip to london, as fast broken beats lurk under acid frequencies, soulful vocals and scattered piano fills. “i m feeling hot“ is pure sweat for the dancers. its remix marieu (half of the analogue cops and boss of restoration and enlightenedwax) which closes the record with a reckless remix with strange guitars and mysterious alien samples.

rfbcolours 004 is aimed at the dark, jazzy smokey affairs. from the off u can see the imspiration fro the ep title with the a1 track from sombro and embezzlement society capturing a low end, horn sampled groover with rough claps and an undeniable groove. georgi barrel delivers again with something that will warm up the coldest clubs or capyure you on sunset terraces. long island sound hit the pianos hard on the slower paced but equally as grabbing and tense -grit-. label owner jamie trench rounds off with night lanterns which is a track thats been waiting for a space on wax for a good few years now and fits beautifully with the rest of the ep.

the period of the 1960s and 70s was so fertile that the speed with which tastes changed left a colossal amount of incredible music to gather dust - perhaps most famously a profusion of funk, soul and rock. countless of local bands released their music on their own without a label. chain was one of those bands whose pounding double-sider leaves us standing mouth wide open. hard drums, sharp horns, raw vocals, and supercool guitar licks. what more can you ask for?
