giorgio gordano and giorgio dolce originally produced kkk back in 1983, and the track was taken into the hearts of the blossoming balearic scene hovering around dj alfredo at amnesia. its as gentle and sweet natured as italo disco can be, and of course it makes perfect sense that best records would dig it out of the archives and give it the shiny new reissue it deserves. the club mix of kkk is a feast of simple, charming programmed melodies and crisp drum machine rhythms with the innocence of the early 80s in its heart. the dub mix and bonus beats on the flip are handy for the technical djs out there, but the club mix is where it s at for the lovers.

from the darkest corners of the rca vaults we bring you this super rare and wonderful, tripped out cosmic-psych rarity on 45! from 1977 this double-header is an eastern themed, moog driven oddity from the mysteriously monikered kamel oil company. written by the legendary bob azzam, eddie barclay (founder of barclay records) & greek record company owner antoine flamaritis, mustapha is an exotica soaked orchestral monster with choir vocals and string arrangements that only the big boys could call in. this is a serious left-field nugget from the vaults of one of the biggest majors, one ends up thinking - how did this come about?! . on the flip-side we have petrolo en bruto , which is the real gem here, undoubtedly this one will appeal to fans of the far flung reaches of world music and psych, even those of you who dig the various flavours of funk from around the globe. a truly special and unique record here, often sought after by the deepest of the crate diggers and obscure sound searchers on a promo 45, this rare ep now sees a fully legit reissue. made in conjunction with above board distribution and rca this reissue is sourced from their vaults using original materials and remastered and repressed to the highest standard for 2018 and featuring all original 1977 rca label artwork.

after gunnar haslam inaugurated kalvanic languages with his deep-minded techno styles, now it s up to supposed newcomer bill westerby to follow up with another round of elevated machine learning. k-stream was a smart choice for the lead track, bubbling along on a warm acid line and shuffling a wealth of dubby processing around in the middle distance. down a back alley in cholon is a slightly more wound up affair with a bleepy lead and a firmer jack powering the drums, but the end results are actually more meditative than that description might have you believe. caye de crabe is a more overtly tripped out affair with polyrhythmic phrases weaving in and out of each other while westerby lets rip on the parameter tweaks in a fine display of machine wielding prowess.

radical connector was originally released in 2004 and is now fnally back on vinyl. this re-issue is pressed on mixed splatter color vinyl and presented in a high gloss jacket with free download card. though reference points like daft punk and prince have rightly been thrown around, radical connector is in fact a strange album that doesnt sound like much else. pitchfork

after the first vinyl release (analog dub sessions) dub communication is back on 7”. this time frenk is using his korg ms20 to lay down an analog militant dub bass foundation. creating subs, stabs and catchy melody lines. a live played melodica, dipped in spring verbs, adding a human touch to the mix. futhermore we got atmospheric chords and heavy drums rhythms, as we know, frenk likes to produce. for the b side, there’s a heavy remix from belgium dub producer digid. his signature bass growl takes over, filtering and phasing through the audio spectrum. he adds more weight to the drums and new melodies on top. from the half time to the steppers rhythm as frenk took it the other way around.

opener laguna is a loopy, liquid track of fluttering drums and rubbery kicks that never lets up. ortica is more gloopy and wonky, with firmer kicks and aqueous sounds dripping off the groove, while lyra is beautifully delicate and intricate, with underwater life forms drifting by as gentle xylophones sounds dance around. the masterful minimalism continues on the dark, undulating and alien vilipendio, and things round out with the paranoid voices and panning synths of mekong , an unsettling track that has you looking over your shoulder.

after an excellent first release featuring freerotation lynchpin steevio, russ gabriels rivers of groove label returns with a pair of excursions into lush, bubbling techno from gabriel on his own. as a first generation uk techno stalwart, its little wonder that he can turn out productions as accomplished as these, but there s no sense that he s treading water. ambulate bears the hallmarks of modular production, all twinkling, morphing synth tones chiming around a delicate beat, while dover calling favours a snappier electro palette, but both stand out from the crowd for the sheer quality in the production, the warmth in the composition and the needlepoint focus given to every shred of detail in this crucial cuts.

for her first single, the sublime title loverboy comes out as a big urban spleen, released in a space made of asphalt and artificial paradises. groups like hooverphonic or even portishead play around this throbbing softness that is loverboy, splashing about in the electronic lounge of the 90s. the opener, alien lady features a flute-driven solo backed up by a funky guitar riff that then transitions into a tropical beat and tanja narrating the story of feeling a stranger in a big city, not understanding the social codes and clues ‘i don t speak the language in the way that you know’ while worth to you is a dreamy, glitched-out hypnotic track which maintains an edge of mysterious sexuality and her signature sense of intimate detachment. if the atmosphere coming out of lomboy’s work can be sometimes felt as prude and even shy, it certainly does not intend to hide with embarrassment the aphrodisiac scent that permeates it. on the contrary, this modesty perceived in the interpretation and in the production sensually envelops the different compositions, and imparts to this guilty pleasure the feeling of a stolen kiss. warped caress brings us to vertiginous heights and takes us into abyssal depths throughout the five tracks. this suggests at times a diegetic representation of this erotic world seen through the insolent prose and at other times a mimetic representation where each instrument plays an important part in every story told.

the second outing from yaleesa hall in this two-piece ep series on will & ink. the 13th release on the label packs a visceral punch across four fresh tracks that are perfect for dance floor deployment. first track daisy wright kicks off with minimal but impactful drum rhythms that eventually get cut up with tumbling sirens, hammering hits and blasts of dirty noise. it s hugely physical stuff, while follow up barbara adams is more stripped back and mysterious. icy hi hats tick, howling synths sound bring a sadness and the depth of stern field as sounds play out above, below and all around you is truly standout. harriet brown then sinks into a deeper electro groove with spangled bass, before a vip mix then slows things down to a dread fuelled dub wise swagger that eventually breaks out into oscillating, stuttering rave madness. it makes for one hell of a thrilling ride and kicks off a promising year for both yaleesa hall and the will & ink label.

zoe mc phersons exploration of this world on string figures is a deeply rhythmic, immersive and forward-thinking piece of elec-tronic-leaning music that remains just as danceable as it does experimental. the album is fundamentally one of duality, exploring the traditional and the contem-porary, organic and electronic, audio and visual, history and the future. rooted in this duality is also a core theme around string being one of the most ancient and playful art forms and the seemingly infinite possibilities it offers in terms of shapes, structures and figures lines up with this as a trans-global art project. one that over time will involve video art, choreography, 3d motion design, macro film, instrumental and electronic sound. although for now is being presented through an av performance, films and a record with mc pherson collaborating with director alessandra leone over the seven tracks (which are laid out as chapters) the record explores glitchy elec-tronics, dub-tinged grooves, polyrhythms, and a huge array of instruments that takes in quiet blasts of atonal sax alongside wonky synths.

bordello a parigi is on the hunt once again, this time journeying to southern france to unearth an up and coming sect of synthesizer sorcerers: blind delon. hailing from toulouse, the triumvirate of mathis kolkoz, théo fantuz and coco thiburs offer a sound that combines indie and wave with seemingly effortless execution. the soft interlude of -sometimes- introduces assassin. a groove grips pulsing rhythms, subtle strings and throaty vocals in the captivating -sombre soleil-. those vocals become even deeper in the dreamy -j ai honte-. smoke spirals around keys in this brooding work of guitars rifts and bruised egos. the title piece perfectly melds warm strings with cold synthlines for a superb climax to an ep that exudes modern synth-wave chic.

dj-kicks start 2018 in fine style with another vital entry into their long running series. the latest comes from swiss dj and producer deetron, and features an exclusive solo track as well as exclusive collaborations with steve spacek, jinadu and jamie lidell. as one of the other most famous musical exports from his swiss homeland, he has pretty much done it all from fabric and balance mix cds to running his own label, from essential albums like twisted and music over matter on music man records to club focussed 12”s on will saul’s aus music and french label circus company. after 20 years in the game, he is still in demand at key clubs around the world, and is sufficiently respected as to be able to call on big names like seth troxler, cooly g and ben westbeech for collaborations.

‘oonops drops’ is the eponymous name of dj oonops’ monthly broadcast on brooklyn radio (nyc). it’s your not average radio show without talk and comments for which he invites renowned guests with their exclusive mixes from around the globe to create timeless and thematic episodes. in the last sixty shows he got visited by artists like morcheeba, guts, nickodemus, the herbaliser, nostalgia 77, boca 45, blundetto, chinese man and many more.

on a chance encounter whilst producing in nashville of all places, zepherin was so blown away by vocalists he was using to do backing on a project, that he immediately felt inspired to record a new version of raphael saadiqs classic skyy, can you feel me. originally used in his sets as an edit, zepherin had the soulful house community going into a frenzy with hopes for its release. tried and tested on dance floors around the globe in his sets its now primed and ready for release.

dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record, where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal, ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure, which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride, while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.

hailing from france but now based in tokyo, jazzy couscous is a label that explores all kinds of sounds pivoting around the axis of jazz and deep house, but keeping things wide open for variety and experimentation. following releases from brawther, klodio and more besides, it s time for a hefty various artists release that shows off a whole heap of talent. matthieu faubourg keeps thing pumping and detroit-flavoured on a long way, while drezb smooths things out to a chez damier-influenced deep house groove. pascal viscardi gets things properly jacking on the deep-diving digital illusion, and then the record closes out with the blissful ambient excursion of midori featuring victor santonis distance.

dimi angelis is a pivotal element in european and universal techno scene, alone or teaming up with jeroen search his tunes has been around from quite a while and finally he is landing with a complete ep in warm up. dimi provides three energetic cuts, fast, dirty, futuristic and funky all at once.

boyd goosman is back again to delivers an atmospheric, deep and emotive ep, based around a sparse palette of deep synth, warm bass and whispering vocals. the understated beauty of this record will touch every ‘emotive techno’ lovers! the bristol native kamikaze space programme (mote evolver, killekill…) deliver here a fantastic dub techno remix in a massive attack / bristol / future sound of london style. highly recommended! 300 copies limited!

instrumental music is supposed to be asemantic and yet a rich language of rhetorical gestures has grown up around it. none of them may have a specific meaning but they easily lead the listener towards an emotion, a sensation, an embryonic story. does any of this mean that music is abstract? or does it, to the contrary, mean that music tells a story? there is no abstraction without a story. is there a story without an abstraction? the composition on this album, is it a radio play? tropa macaca = andré abel and joana da conceição check out their earlier albums, they’re just as great.

italian techno producer distant echoes presents the first ep of the new year -rough waves-, a four-track pack out on the berlin-based, southern-italy born out-er label.
distant echoes has been building a name in the last few years since he debuted on the dystopian label in 2014 and toured all around the world, yet, he s been producing and playing electronic/house/techno music since almost two decades. as out-er co-founder, he previously released music before the beginning of his bond with dystopian. in the last years, while distant echoes has mostly focused on releasing on dystopian, out-er has indeed expanded its range of collaborations worldwide, by putting out music from juan atkins, orlando voorn, terrence dixon and more.
distant echoes now readies the first installment on his own label with his newest moniker, showcasing his typical sound: deep, intense grooves and gloomy soundscapes crafted with exceptional productional accuracy.

echovolt is thrilled to finally bring you the work of the first greek producer on their growing reissue catalog offering two ultra-rare recordings that lived on the shelf for exactly two decades. the then 16-year old starcount recorded those two stripped-down cuts straight to dat tape in his bedroom studio in athens during the late 90s between cutting classes and sailing in the aegean sea. despite his young age both calma and jeraldine showcase top notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies, jazzy chords and a densely populated pallet of drum hits. it is most likely that the above mentioned tracks might be the earliest detroit influenced productions ever made in greece around that time! suitable for night cruising and any kind of rides with friends and family!

late last year, we modestly celebrated the sixth anniversary of lph records by releasing a 10-inch that reconnected us with our very first ep by bringing back two of the artists who contributed to it, runaway and soft rocks. now, as a sort of companion to that, we have lph___vi , a 7-inch that gives shine to a couple other names that have been spotted on lph party flyers of old and back catalog credits, jacques renault and daniel t. both these are fun, flavorful little disco nugs united by funky bass guitar fretwork and plenty of sassy woodblock, though jacques leans towards the goofy and daffy, whereas daniels brings some synth-pop seriousness into the frame. as befits the format, both hover around four minutes in length.

for our second ep, we are shifting from manila, philippines, to our other home city, bangkok, the thai kingdom’s capital. hailing from here is dott, one of three founders of more rice, a truly home grown bangkok electronic producer, dj and the talent behind mah noi ep. dott already has a number of releases under his belt and is now a regular on the asian circuit, playing gigs around the region. at 26 years old this is quite impres- sive and we are very proud to be releasing his first pressed record under more rice.
mah noi ep embodies dott’s sound, which is deep, driven and moody, whilst keeping an organic twist throughout and clearly inspired by his home country, the key to setting the release apart and making it tasty for more rice. the careful and precise placement of vintage thai samples gives it that extra flavour and mystery that can engulf the listeners and dancers, whilst the remix by eric volta truly transports you to another dimension.

norwegian duo smerz had a prolific 2017, which saw the copenhagen-based henriette and catharina play the likes of club 2 club, moma ps1, sell out half life parties of their own, as well as release five new tracks along with five self-directed videos. clearly not ones to wait around, smerz go in to the new year with their have fun ep on the horizon for release via xl recordings in march 2018. with their unique electronic sound blending deconstructed club music, minimalist r&b and experimental pop and techno, smerz are also prolific djs who s djing style takes a similar route. mixing live vocals over their own music and interlaced with choice cuts aimed squarely at the dancefloor, this duo dj hard in a live setting and are thrilling to watch as well as listen. smerz currently host their own monthly nts radio residency, mixing cutting-edge dance music and darker tones, in what is turning in to their trademark style.

brand new year, brand new imprint. coop presents is an all-new record label, founded by ig culture and alex phountzi, set to focus on the depth and wealth of talent that exists within the london bruk movement and beyond, a project which they consider to be a continuation in the same spirit of the legendary coop movement. last summer, the coop presents crew released an ep via first word records entitled selectors assemble . this was the first collective offering from a foundation comprised of uk dance music pioneers and nowadays bruk soldiers, navigating in & around the world of broken beat and beyond over the last two decades to the present day. reinvigorated by recent boiler room sessions, the crew proceeded with more parties, more radio shows, and gained access to an unlimited pool of all-new sounds. the squad were primed and ready to move forwards from the famed days of the plastic people dances, and further explore the evolution of their sound.

deep club resident dj and head strobe controller lone dancer marks our label s 4th entry with his first solo 12- on vinyl. after finishing two quality tape albums in 2017 already for jacktone and always human tapes, -house is a tunnel- arrives packed with 4 club-ready jagged tekno bangers and one cut for the chillout room. side a - communication: the title track is a sure-fire party starter centered around a thick kickdrum and a repeating synth rhythm laced with weird percussion and synth stabs trickling through the texture. next, -po12-3- combines crisp claps, hats, and a central synth theme that calls for an intergalactic rave. -colony dwelling- kicks off the transportation side, taking our extraterrestrial dancers to a new dimension steeped in fog juice and flangers. -floor- has a chill intro until it launches into a gritty track that throws broken kickdrums and distorted synths in every direction. finally, -night rain- puts the party to rest utilizng soft pads while hinting at moments from the night before. overall, -house is a tunnel- is a fitting dance-centric conglomeration of lone dancer s unique style of jacking techno, broken beats, and spaced out tracks that has set him apart in 2017. —ryan scannura

the grand, sweeping sonic explorations of “pretoria”, from john matthias and jay auborn’s 2017 album “race to zero”, are given new life on this four-track remix ep.
moon gangs (better known as william young, keyboardist in bristol-based electronic outfit beak>) takes the reins first, delivering a thunderous take on the original’s faster-paced second half. typically of the artist, the track builds and builds in intensity, climaxing with an apocalypse of emotional, layered synths.
bristol’s cuts strips back the elements for a much darker reworking. a single, repeating piano note echoes into wide, open space alongside the original’s antique violins before clattering percussion and synths enter the mix for the most foreboding turn of the release.
closing the ep, former mogwai member john cummings also bases his reinterpretation around the original’s piano. but where cuts leans on moody darkness, cummings take is more upbeat, courtesy of a driving four to the floor kick and fidgety, high-pitched piano.
