holy smokes batman! brand new label straight outta mcr here as esteemed clubnight house of wax launches a new, vinyl only imprint entitled jupiter s melody. what a coup for this debut release - the drop are a london based, 9-piece reggae band operating since 2009 and with a soundsystem informed mentality. fitting then that soundsystem operative, ukg legend and accalaimed bass music progressor djrum is enlisted on remix duties to take these uk reggae skankers into the club for some grooving 2-step business. felix manuel has a storied history across uk dance music, most notably through releases on the iconic 2nd drop records and a much lauded resident advisor mix. -looking to the sky- is that festival burner you wish you d have packed for the summer just gone. gliding in on waves of undulating bass, punctuated by a typical but none less arresting 2-step beat, the rastaman vox from the drop fit so well you won t actually believe it s a remix! deep, emotive and beautifully poised, its retroist in many ways but this only adds to the warm and welcoming nature of the track. the flip is more introspective, and in someways melancholic, but with a massively uplifted message. again, taken from a completely different og piece (check youtube for the drop s original vid), the vocal sits perfectly in another crisp and frenetic take on the ukg beat. this side builds slowly, with a defined song structure and lush musicality, never quite climaxing but simmering gently with a mindful glow. appearing out of nowhere and instantly having us climbing over each other to see what was playing, we expect this to be a big smash here in manchester over the coming months. if you ve felt something missing in your life since mj cole, zed bias and todd edwards last released summat, then you could do much worse than adding this to your collection! limited copies so get those orders in quick folks...

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12”. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc’s “parón largo”, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. “cloaking tech d fly d” is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

the first ep from mouse on mars since their anniversary recording 21 again (2014) is clearly connected to their recent club gigs. in fact, synaptics sees the berlin duo embrace their love of juke, footwork and chopped up house music like never before. on its three tracks, andi toma and jan st. werner reinforce the collaborative idea of 21 again: eight different artists have been involved in the making of these tracks, which deliberately depart from a characteristic mouse on mars sound, creating a more organized vibe while still maintaining links to their previous work. there are two directions of research in andi and jan s sonic laboratory: one is focused on experimental club music, the other is in search of music without ties to specific genres. though heavily leaning towards the club, synaptics is caught in between. from the duo s perspective, it even touches pop territory. all three tracks came into existence during the past four years. opener „jack is out- with its pounding lazer stabs is an obvious link to their current club sets as well as a clue on future productions. after months of redesigning and rearranging, it found its final form through an edit by bon iver producer ryan olson aka arson only at his wisconsin studio, where andi and jan also recored for their next album. „bluescreen- was born out of a berlin session with jessy lanza and junior boys and was completed some year later with support from modeselektor. and the tropical funk of „sensitive person-, based on a studio jam with sepalcure, also needed some aging and refinement after a couple of months.

on his new album, i have what i gave, italian musician bottin outdoes himself. he crafts propulsive, disco-laden scores for films not yet made, and introspective, mind-expanding cuts designed to ensure that people who want to dance never get caught up in conventional experiences. each moment with bottin is a memorable one.

revival is an as-of-yet totally undiscovered electric jazz rock recording from 1977 composed by visual artist and multi instrumentalist herbert bodzin. it features brilliant soulful fusion with echoed fender rhodes, phased flute, and electric bass and guitar. most tracks are overdubbed with synthesizers. fellow musicians are hans kämper (of legendary krautrock group annexus quam), bernd szemeitzke, peter johannesdotter and bernd schöttner. unreleased instrumental versions taken from the rare protest album niedersächsische schlachteplatte.

thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music. he initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and techno community for his full-length variations of material by wolfgang voigt under his mike ink moniker, and richie hawtin. the variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of brinkmann s design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. the turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. both voigt and hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels. since then thomas brinkmann has produced some all-time classic dance tracks, many of which are collected here in what is a personal selection by thomas brinkmann himself. there are unreleased tracks, different versions, and tracks that have never been released on vinyl. a full colour 20-page book with track notes by thomas brinkmann and photos from his personal collection is included. limited edition box. highly recommended! ean4050486123461

on top of running his highly respected hope works event series in the north of england, lo shea’s reputation as a producer is unquestionable, with recent years seeing the sheffield-based artist appear on credible imprints such as phonica, never learnt, sze, transit and dext recordings.
metallic percussion is blended with growling bass in ‘let’s roll’ before introducing spooky synths to generate a mesmerising aesthetic. energetic breakbeat drums and intricate melodies then forge ‘tundish’ before thor reinterprets ‘let’s roll’ by sucking you into a dub techno vortex, stripping shards off the original that cascade whilst driving you into an abyss.

there is a sense of urgency increasingly infecting the human condition, fragmenting our attention span, accelerating our needs and often influencing our motives when making creative decisions. the result is a lack of dynamics, there is no ebb or flow, its “go” time, all the time. electronic music is one of the clearest examples of a widening division between great art created in a deeply imaginative vaccum and the soulessly formulaic and branded product that serves the impatient masses. what draws the esp institute to benedikt frey is his ability to operate on the fringe, outside the constructs artists constantly channel themselves into - his art speaks a pure language that is realized by any means necessary, a process devised solely to articulate his own message, one delivered with patience, never rushed nor dictated by the outside world. artificial was written and produced over two years, tirelessly sculpted into a sequence abstract pieces that are fiercely independent but accumulate layers of meaning when collaged. it is electronic and rhythm-based, but never reliant on any prescribed instrumentation, arrangement or expecatation. this is our idea of well conceived and executed album, not simply a collection of tracks but a complex narrative that unfolds over peaks and valleys, pulling the listener into emotional corners before leaving a residual impression. some may describe music very well in words, but there is always something lost in translation - a story only the music itself can tell.

hey campers, we are back with some new goodies for you! this one is by the completely virginal duo death bulb, who have never released a single track before, which is quite ridiculous as they have been producing this stuff since 2012. this is simply some of the best industrial noise techno around! it starts out with the title track zement, a total dancefloor killer that still gives me goosebumps after hearing it about a million times. you will eat this up! second on the a side is breathe in, breed out, a hilariously rough beatdown with lots of heavy breathing involved - slays it every time! ultraviolence never felt so enjoyable! the b side starts out with a rare guest appearance of label daddy hanno hinkelbein who donated a remix of zement for you people who like straightforward techno. lots of heavy bass and a crunchy ravepad, driven by relentless percussion. the vinyl ends with the broken banger bettina’s betrayal - noise at it’s finest, somewhere between i-f’s “i do because i couldn’t care less...” and old afx.

on “rest in space”, his first full length outing for music for dreams, the lp keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. the opener “rest in space” treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. this is followed by the epic “night wind” which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of nicolas jaar & dave harrington’s darkside project. “seikleos” centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic “popcorn”) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track “future days” brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both sheila chandra and tom tom club. also included is the previously released digital single “agit” as well as a remix by berlin-based m.rux, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. the stunning “ikaru” wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. “tawhid” is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. lastly comes gorgeous eastern guitar opus “the true word of the wind” and the warm vibey dreamscape “following”. as a whole, islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

stephen laubner never fails to deliver the goods, whether on his own label something or elsewhere. having recently popped up on the untold stories, this time around hes dropping his uniquely crusty compositions on synthetic gold. after a quietly disconcerting ambient opening, the leftfield grind of the taphead pushes an uncompromising agenda of ragged bass and an unrelenting groove. october sunrise by way of contrast is a more intimate, sweet natured affair. syntax error too taps into the softer side of laubner s craft in a most mesmerizing of ways, but for the die hard fans fear not, there s also plenty of locked groove loops included to keep you tripping into infinity.

repress , swedish disco aficionado drop out orchestra has been plying his trade in the world of slick edits and on-point party fodder for the best part of ten years now, and now he comes to riot gear with a sure fire club classic to share. there s no prizes for guessing the source material on -holding on-, but in this context the evergreen crossover jam gets a modern steroid injection, having never sounded more contemporary than here. yam who? sidles in for a remix that does a subtle job, simmering down some of the familiar vocals and making a slinkier cut that still hits hard. -knucklehead- brings a little more jacking drum machine action to the table, but still disco is the main order of the day, while -where is my man- takes the prize with its on point jazz funk licks and stomping beat.

pure emotion carried by cosmic soul in the guise of underground melodic techno is what justin zerbst offers us with his first release on metamorphic. justin might be considered up and coming despite having released his first record on the highly regarded australian label red ember in the 90s. since then the melbourne based producer has released only a handful but extremely sought after records on eklo, seekers, and red ember. now his music, deeply influenced by detroit and especially midwest techno finds a natural home on metamorphic. four tracks of pure analog machine soul, created in the 90 s but never released until now, capturing the raw energy and excitement of that era. robert feuchtel at fat of excellence production services cologne, bridges the divide between now and then with his unparalleled mastering skills.

being selfish, is one of the good things about running your own label. if you please, you can just try and re-release that certain record that you always wanted for yourself, but never could get your hand on it. now, you can just edit it the way you always wanted it to be (oh, those fade-outsà) and press it up. this is one of these occasions. when kalk (the collaborative project of philippe heinen and joffrey becker) was released on julien briffaz label brif in 1999, i just had started to dj out at a club in darmstadt (the late cafÚ kesselhaus) and the restrained, yet punchy house tracks symbolized what i liked about deep house back then: a mellow alternative to the bpm hunt and rigid attitude in mainstream techno, while not losing itself in chin-stroking wisdom or pesky noodling. it seemed that there werent too many around with the same desire. otherwise akasha wouldnt have remained a diamond in disguise and not what morgan geist so aptly named an unclassic. by his definition, that is: an old by and large forgotten record that would have deserved to be hit. if you take discogs as an indicator, more and more people start to think so though. here is your second chance to obtain a copy of the spirit of kalk. mildly edited and restored in the best human-possible way. mind you, its old house music from days of yore. dj gj

in 1973, emi records nigeria released the 45 rpm disc fuel for love b/w soundway, credited to a mysterious band called wrinkar experience. the record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the countryÆs nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling nigerian single up until that point. the success of wrinkar experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. but while wrinkar experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the bands frontman danie ian split for a solo career. the remaining principal players in the group cameroonian musicians ginger forcha and edjoo jacques racine tried to keep the wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as rock town express. rock town expresss debut lp funky makossa was recorded in 1974 for arc records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in lagos by english drum legend ginger baker. the album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the wrinkar experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. comb & razor sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of funky makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus i am a natural man and i dont want to know, from wrinkar experiences seldom-heard third and final single.

dj octopus has been busy in the last few years, appearing often alongside steve murphy on labels like love notes, chiwax, hot haus and shall not fade. on this new double pack for house crime he goes it alone, bringing the kind of raw, off-kilter but ultimately fun vibe that the label seems to plump for. born in 86 is an absolute head driller of a track, looped up but utterly addictive, while diastemia offers a very different kind of disco-infused groove. this personality split runs throughout, ensuring there s never a dull moment diving into any of these sides of wax. check the toy is mine if you need proof that octopus knows how to throw it down.

stereociti, revered japanese house producer, with 2 acclaimed albums on mojuba joins groovement, increasing the nipon family on the label. reflexion ep is a very complete release, showcasing stereociti’s amazing composition skills. “eu lembro” is a super irresistible intergalactic house journey and “wee hours”, a dubby excursion that never ceases to grow til the groove comes in. title track “reflexions” is a very elegant and hypnotic house cut that will make you dream about the perfect party. and to close in a perfect mood, “canc&#807,,,o&#771,,,es do vento sul” - a more broken tune - loops the journey into pure happiness and joy. a great record to listen or dance to.

monumental house anthem alert! another classic jammer from 1992 lifted straight from the strictly vaults. this one s huge. phuture aka acid house pioneers spanky and dj pierre (with a little help from roy davis jr) turn in a driving, acidic monster in true wild pitch style. probably the only record that begins with a sinister voice saying this is cocaine speaking before diving head-long into one of the best anti-drug house records ever. absolutely brilliant. bubbling 303 basslines and cavernous handclaps combine with a funked out, dubbed out synth line that just doesn t stop. phuture will survive, and they weren t lying when they said that as this record (among too many others they had a hand in) still rock today. yep, still fresh. tried and tested, often imitated, never bettered. phuture are the originals. open up your eyes (and ears). this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster, featuring all 4 mixes as per the original release way back when. essential stuff here. you simply need this one.

the arrival of marvin parks on today’s musical scene can be considered a very fitting addition to the renaissance of the afro-american jazz crooner panorama, deeply rooted in the black music tradition. having his roots in gospel and in the ’50s and ’60s jazz singers by the likes of nat king cole, johnny hartman and joe williams, marvin parks yet remains by all means an artist of today.
in his debut marvin shapes his light baritone colors within the sound of a well-established group of musicians under the direction and production of nicola conte. the main idea was to create a soundscape to give a different light to well-known standards and some originals.

combining forces, audiofly and patrice bäumel draw on unique inspirations from the desert to deliver the monumental atacama on crosstown rebels. having focused solely on his own productions in the past, label boss damian lazarus steps away for the first time to complete this exceptional release with a profound re-shape. the hypnotic atacama intricately builds with a certain intensity that never drops, stimulating the senses and transporting the mind as deep, grumbling pads drift in and out of play. damian lazarus remembers the first moment i heard this track i knew there was something very special about it, not only did it strike me as a killer club record but i also felt the textures completely appropriate to my own experiences in the atacama desert. on the flip, damian changes gear as a deep, chugging beat leads the way through an impressive re-shape of the original. anthony middleton and luca saporito aka audiofly have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels and their flying circus global party brand. they met patrice during a us tour and immediately hit it off. it wasn t long after that we decided to invite him to barcelona for a session that proved to be nothing short of inspirational. internationally renowned dj and producer patrice bäumel has had a busy start to 2017 with a release on tale of us’ afterlife imprint, plus remixes for sasha & policia and depeche mode amongst others. he truthfully said of the this release, it s a labour of love that came together within a few hours of jamming in the studio, unlike many collabs this one really felt like we all equally contributed to the end result.

...and in the end, not a great deal is known about the spanish duo futuro. the saga begins with the discovery of a cache of test pressings deep within the shelves of a very dusty record shop near the plaza del toros de valencia. as is the case with these things there was no promo sheet or any other information outside of three clues etched into the run-out groove: futuro, jollyman, mcmlxxxvii. through deduction and reasoning it was soon realised that jollyman was a short lived italian record label that closed it s doors in 1987. there were rumours for a while that jollyman was a mafia wedding gift to a music enthused female family member, but as the journey continued it became slightly more likely that this was a tax write-off for it s owners, as the label itself was never very successful, and was more likely an afterthought rather than a full on passion project. that is not to say that there were not gems hidden within it s small catalogue, most notably from noted library musician, composer and arranger alessandro signoretti, without whose help this release would not be presently in front of you. alessandro s assistance led us to the infamous hafenklang studio in hamburg, germany. the very same studio used by boytronic to record their classic lp the continental (some of the same dx presets can easily be heard on both albums) and despite the insane amounts of musicians that have passed through those doors the owner clearly remembered the duo and finally the mysterious futuro had names: javier c rayón and raúl láynez.

too late for the italo boom, and too early for the sonido de valencia craze, the recordings of futuro have sat on master tapes since 1987 finally awaiting their much deserved audience. bordello a parigi are more than proud to present this lost late slow-mo synthesizer italo masterpiece onto the world.

after shedding his former pseudonym of a la $ole, pro era member aaron rose dropped a number of noteworthy singles and killed every guest feature. but with the release of his new ep, ‘elixir,’ the brooklyn rapper has never sounded more focused or motivated, and it’s only a taste of what’s to come from the young artist.

finally four guys from the deepest south of germany decided to share some of their shit on vinyl and hodenhouse is the result of this idea. as the name of the label suggests those four guys never takin things and themselves too seriously. it s a pure love thang. and love is limited. like our first ep, hodenhouse001, limited to 250 pcs, vinyl only. perhaps in the future there will be some more releases, perhaps not. we don t know jet and to us it isn t as much important at the moment. the ep includes tracks from mad lee, kaam and nly1p. be prepared. it will be released later this year. yo.

brexit jazz (the never ending story): brexit jazz sind roberto di gioia (marsmobil / web web), jan krause (beanfield) und michael reinboth (scheffe von compost). das original wurde genau an dem freitag 24.06.2016 im beanfield studio, münchen, live in einem take aufgenommen, als die briten den brexit verkündet hatten. das original wurde spontan digital 2016 veröffentlicht, aber nachdem jede menge leute die idee und die musik super fanden und compost anschrieben, war die idee, einen remix-wettbewerb auszurufen, geboren. compost bekam über 90 remixe zugeschickt, und hier sind die fünf gewinner der brexit jazz remix competition: roberto di gioia (marsmobil / web web), jan krause (beanfield) und michael reinboth (compost) haben dann auch noch eine version gemacht. ein tolles paket voll enervierender, energetischer tracks von house, hooligan-jazz, freestyle, experimental bis disco und downbeat.

after 2 first eps in 2016 on voxnox & arts digital, the young berliner talent opål comes back on the new swiss imprint bipolar disorder. the silem ep demonstrates opål’s ease to encompass both energetic, raving, or deeper techno style.
the main title “silem” takes the listener right away through a melodic journey aiming to warm dancefloors, followed by the dubbier, more classic/chilled “capillaries”. “cadmium” gives acceleration again on the b side with its stomping bass, before to close with “solar”. never forcing the audience, opål cares for details and atmospheres. his ability to experiment and blend genres insures him a unique signature in a driven, puristic, dub, leaning toward hypnotic style.

emmanuel’s “rave culture” is a record that pushes the boundaries of techno to another level. “rave culture” is his first full-length on the label bringing 2x12” round of wax. ten cuts that are committed to fill a space in the rave scene that no one else has done in terms of power, experimentation, work of soul and most of all showing respect for the old-school way of doing things. this lp is his largest achievement yet and aims to showcase who he is.
emmanuel directs the listener to unknown territory keeping them very concentrated on a rave scenario, but also giving them different reasons to think, act & explode - all with the right balance. deadly floor massacre weapons and well crafted heavy bass works elevate to a modern way of thinking as well as challenging the dancer to think forward and get inspired.
rave has never been so alive and this is the testimony of it all.

naoki e-jima s disc shop zero record store in tokyo holds a special place in our hearts. since before idle hands was even established, when rooted records was king, the cosy, liberally stocked shop has served as a sympathetic outpost for bristol s rich culture of soundsystem music. over the years, naoki has championed all the best music to come from our fair city, from smith & mighty through to pinch and pev and on to the output from our own humble label. it s been a vital connection to help our music reach the right heads on the other side of the world, in turn providing a platform for our most treasured artists to gig and further the cause of the music we love. as a thank you for all the support naoki has shown bristol music over the years, idle hands has put together a special tribute 10inch of tracks that chime with his particular musical tastes, shining a light on some complementary gems that might have otherwise never seen the light of day. its also a chance to fill in the missing idle013 catalogue number – fortunately, the number 13 does not represent bad luck in japanese culture. on the a-side, the mighty (pun intended) rob smith takes to a track from outboxx s debut album, originally intended for a remix 12inch that never came to be. in his learned hands, lost soul becomes a shimmering stepper marked out by beautiful cascading arpeggios and of course plenty of fulsome bass, with arresting fragments of vocal drifting in and out of the mix for good measure. rob s status as a true legend of bristol music needs no explanation, but his presence here is furthermore because naoki is such a fan of his music. on the b-side, atki2 makes a welcome return to the label after bringing a classic ray of sunshine to idle hands on the second single we ever put out. as well as being a big release for us, it was apparently huge at disc shop zero, so it feels right to bring the effervescent hes royal to this 10inch release. with a sunny disposition at heart, these two tracks make sense sharing a 10inch, but it s even more fitting that they sit side by side as we doff our caps to a true hero of the global underground. thanks, naoki.

dutch maestro reimer eising returns with a new lesson in high class braindance electronica for analogical force. just one year on from the inspiring wingtip album on clone records and many (like us) have been looking forward to his new stuff, now the wait is over. alacasa , the result of months of work, sees reimer delving into his unique world of delicate drum patterns, kaleidoscopic synths, 4/4 beats and breaks, acid-tinged melodies, ghostly pads...blah blah blah... kettel has presented us with all of these things before but never with such immaculate care and attention to detail, production and pacing. he has never sounded better and fresher than this. the ep includes a dreamy and evocative remix from swedish hero rolando simmons, pure bliss to get lost in. no more words are needed, you know what to do.

june records presents rr hearse - call of oedipus. completed between 1981 and 2013, call of oedipus is a collection of solo works and collaborations of rr hearse with s/m, a.rib and mr. cricket. the tracks were recorded live at concerts on greek university campuses, squats, in studio as well as in rr hearse s bedroom. this mini lp is a never released before document of the greek underground music scene, transferred from cassettes and reel-to-reels s from rr hearse s personal archive. very limited!

the trickfinger project was recorded 10 years ago with no intention of being released at the time, made purely for discovery and learning experience. in my opinion, making music with no intention of releasing it is the best thing a musician can do for his own development in this day and age. the trickfinger lp was made in that mindset, and it was the beginning of a new musical life for me. when i hear it, it sounds like i am opening up doorways to new worlds, and i never have had that feeling listening to music i made for the purpose of releasing it and selling it.
