counterweight welcomes to the label the rising berlin artist opål with this excellent 4-track full of techno ep... the title track, luminescence, is a rough and hard hitting 4/4 warehouse destroyer. -impala- reduces the tension and shows a more melodic side of the artist but still keeping his characteristic industrial touch. on the b side opål shows what is the definition of -driving- techno with -eclipse-, this is simply amazing. the last track is an absolutely outstanding remix by the italian artist pvs, who explores new atmospheric shapes and goes beyond simple 4/4 structures. pump up the volume, this is real shit!

ouch from a distance is the new label of former ostgut ton manager nick ho¨ppner. it s first release by desert sound colony has been very well received – opal sunn are a well seasoned hardware only live act very much in control of their repertoire, but also capable of captivating improvisations – opal sunn have got a recognizable sound driven by smart, often arpeggiated synth lines, on point drums and textures

following two previous appearances on the -contemporary dance- and -quiet eye- compilations the elusive lyubocha makes their first full ep release through black opal. -noblask- opens proceedings and instantly energises with a bass heavy acid jam, sitting on a simple motif and crunching away into the dance.-berzerk- pushes with a slow burning, deep and dubby tech sliced open by red hot hats. -nenavist- proffers a floral counterpoint to the earlier acid, bejewelled back drops host a perfectly wonked 303 line popping off to the horizon. closing track -nikogda- rolls re-pitched kalimba/xylo styles into a ball and jacks it against the wall, hard. simplicity is a powerful tool when used correctly. lyubocha nails a warm, lo-fi techno minimalism on this debut release.

in 2016 simon pitt and alex kassian formed planet sundae recordings. opal sunn ii is their third release. part i was out july 2017 with andrew weatherall taking a massive shine to it, playing all 4 tracks at a gig in barcelona. it was championed also by massimiliano pagliara, of ostgut fame. opal sunn is live-performance duo al kassian & hiroaki oba. formed in 2015, the pair have recorded countless hardware-driven improvisational sessions, puzzled together to create abstract musical journeys. the aim is to transcend the improvisational magic of the studio jam and funnel it into the live performance. having played at rainbow disco club 2016 in japan & atlas electronic 2016 in morocco,the pair took both excited audiences by surprise with their heavily improvised live sessions. opal sun ii explores darker shades of dance music.

after 2 first eps in 2016 on voxnox & arts digital, the young berliner talent opål comes back on the new swiss imprint bipolar disorder. the silem ep demonstrates opål’s ease to encompass both energetic, raving, or deeper techno style.
the main title “silem” takes the listener right away through a melodic journey aiming to warm dancefloors, followed by the dubbier, more classic/chilled “capillaries”. “cadmium” gives acceleration again on the b side with its stomping bass, before to close with “solar”. never forcing the audience, opål cares for details and atmospheres. his ability to experiment and blend genres insures him a unique signature in a driven, puristic, dub, leaning toward hypnotic style.

with the warmth of spring yet to bloom in full, the cold distant sun still reaches planet sundae, casting shadows upon tomorrow. as al kassian s encrusted diamonds on jupiter is still in orbit from last year, planet sundae takes a step into 2017 with a debut release from a far eastern constellation. we are proud to present you, dear reader, with the first part of a double dipped ep by opal sunn. these selected works by hiroaki oba and al kassian were recorded between 2015-16 in berlin, aimed squarely at that rift between the stark light of the everyday and the flurry of the dance floor.

3lp + dl card. hyper opal mantis is a triptych on 3 states of desire, and the first long player of kangding ray for stroboscopic artefacts. hyper is the primal, sensual lust, opal is the emotional catharsis, a blissful desire for love. mantis, like the insect it refers to, is the destructive, fatal attraction.

following on from 2014’s “hantasive” lp on opal tapes, kaumwald have returned with a new suite of totally bugged out improv techno and electroacoustic burn entitled “rapa nui clan”. they’re a hard act to define, unifying the tabletop thrift attack of amm or early wolf eyes against bold modular driven beats rich with crust. the albums title and tracks speak toward a sense of new discovery, voyaging and exploring.

the second wanda group lp on opal tapes see’s camouflage alter from the greyscale negative sludge of the earlier “piss fell out...” lp into a dramatic and more dynamic sound-world. field recording, stochastic process and tape drag combine with wanda’s wit and reflectivity on the banal and the life changing aspects of the everyday and the process of the body.
