well, this is different
fourth kind the self titled mini album on omniverse records. its hard to pinpoint a genre with records like this, produced by marc mac of 4hero and similar to some of the 4hero output, it defies genre and fits somewhere in-between many. the production is heavily reliant on synthesisers and vintage drum machines in places but is full of real life and organic movements, this is partly down to the signature drums played by luke parkhouse. the only other guest spot is filled by nu jazz funker pascal strauss aka luman child who plays bass guitar on take me to your sky which along with afterglows are the closest we get to dance tracks, in most parts a 70s fusion feel is present. the short interlude type tracks are just as important and i would go as far as to say vital to telling the story. moogs, arps and solina strings weave patterns throughout, all in all, across the 10 tracks the album is a journey of mood and emotions. 180g pressing.

helsinkis we jazz records launches a new series of live recordings, the -we jazz live plates-, offering a closer look into the labels live activities. the first installment of the series is a recording from berlin captured in october 2017. the six-tracker features black motor, bowman trio and jaska lukkarinen trio offering two potent slices of raw live jazz each. all of the compositions herein are previously unreleased or new arrangements.
the album -berlin 27.10.17- was recorded at club monarch located in berlins kottbusser tor during the second annual scope festival (a collaborative effort of berlins xjazz and we jazz). the dense atmosphere of the packed club is present in the recordings which showcase three major acts from the vibrant finnish scene. musically, the album ranges from the undeniable swing of jaska lukkarinen trios -roger- and bowman trios -the hillary step- to the scorching updated version of black motors -branches-, subtitled here as -berliner musik-.

as a creative tool, the theremin - bizarre, unique, and rarely heard - can be expressive, intuitive and highly adaptable. in heklas hands, her instrument covers an enormous range, from skittering birdsong of high frequency chirrups and chirps, to grinding, tectonic sub-bass. we are given the throbbing, apocalyptic dread of muddle and the baroque beauty of traditional icelandic hymn heyr himna smi∂,,ur in sequential tracks on the albums a-side. appropriately, she also writes that the album title - Á - is similarly multifaceted in her native icelandic: a river is an á and also it means ouch like when you hurt yourself, and also when you put something on top of something you put it á (on) something.

hulled is a 25 minute journey spread across 4 tracks of glacial abandon. all tracks were recorded directly to tape with no overdubs, made at converses home studio. bill says these tracks represent ocean waves in stormy conditions, dark grey blue water, or more generally speaking something ominous and beautiful. the songs on this album reveal a sublime influence from detroit techno, idm, and acid. built around vintage synthesizer lines and gritty drum machine percussion, the tracks ebb and flow like the effect of sun shimmering on water, woozy, gauzy and ephemeral. all songs were mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. each ep is housed in a die-cute jacket designed by eloise leigh with peachy pink patterns landing on an alien water planet and seeing mysterious playing forms under the turquoise water. and the. each copy includes a postcard featuring photo of bill with notes.

hot shots of reggae is an recording on which a bunch of popular reggae songs are brought together. the album was originally released in the autumn of 1970 and compiled by the legendary chinese-jamaican producer leslie kong. he had enjoyed many hits in in europe and selected some of the true pearls from the reggae music to shine on the album. the album includes the maytals hit monkey man, the sparkling so much love by joe white and the fine rythms of ken boothes freedom street. the influential producer leslie kong once discovered jimmy cliff and recorded him on his own record label beverleys. in 1962 he recorded bob marleys first single and through the 60s het became known as the producer of many big artists, like desmond dekker and joe higgs. he died of a heart attack, at the age of 38, in august 1971.

the jamaican sonia pottinger was once called the most important jamaican woman involved in music business. dancing down orange street is a collection of some of her famous productions for different artists. the album captures the moment when rocksteady transformed into reggae by speeding up a little and moving towards a more jerky and less smooth musical palette. famous singers as delano stewart and ken boothe are present on the album with multiple tracks. the vocal trio the melodians (known for their hit rivers of babylon) provide a couple of beautifull songs. even after all those years (released for the first time in 1969) the compilation remains a treasure of showcasing some of the finest songs produced by sonia. sonia pottinger was married to music producer lyndon pottinger and started to record musicians in 1996. during the late 60s she produced songs for joe white, the melodians and toots & the maytals.

k.a.c.z.m.a.r.e.k, from the title to the sounds, is intended to be a more personal project for paul ritch indelibly closer to the confluences of sounds that he hears embodying the spirit of kaczmarek. he drives the minds eye deep into the inner-ear with the albums spacious opening tracks, only to leave your head bobbing with the extraterrestrial rhythms that emerge as the main body of the album. moody and foreboding, loaded with the scattered, staccato and broken beats, more ovular than linear in composition and ranging from vaporous-ambience to hyperventilating grooves, the nine tracks on this album defy categorisation. the k.a.c.z.m.a.r.e.k album will give the listener a deep well to return to. the vinyl release will be a fittingly rare issue only 100 numbered copies are going out, while digital releases will run parallel. keeping with the dark and cryptic theme of the first releases russian artist, sasha sime, is back for his third kczmrk cover design
