mit seiner band junip veröffentlichte er zwei großartige werke, arbeitete am soundtrack zu the secret life of walter mitty mit und steuerte gerade erst seine version von how we walk on the moon zu master mix: red hot + arthur russell bei. vestiges & claws wurde fast komplett von josé gonzález in eigenregie aufgenommen und produziert. zuhause in göteborg nutze er eigentlich nur computer plug-ins, um die songs aufzunehmen und dadurch einen warmen, analogen sound zu erzeugen. musikalisch führt das album das fort, was die beiden vorgänger schon angefangen haben: gedämpft und feinfühlig wirken die lieder, die die wunderbare stimme gonzález und sein verschachteltes gitarrenspiel in den vordergrund setzen ohne dabei besonders laut oder bombastisch sein zu müssen.

kirlian camera are one of the pioneers of the italian electronic scene. active since 1979 under the name suicide commando, the band changed name in 1980 releasing the first demo-tape dawn and the self-titled mini-album in late 1981. the early records contain a mix of synth pop and new wave/dance songs, while towards the end of the 1980s kirlian cameras music became darker, turning into electro-gothic sound. nearly every release since then has explored different fields, from industrial to ambient and trip-hop.

elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. (this is the first time he has ever been so involved in another artists work.)

opening up with the deep space atmospherics of quiet life the album immediately transports you to another world. the title track is then a melodically lush and uplifting affair with curious synth patterns ebbing and flowing beneath crisp percussion. tracks like we search for answers combine organic, wooden textures with more synthetic and trippy synth sounds that are as far away from your standard sample packs as can be imagined. across the course of the album there are dark, moody and emotive pieces like worship (previously released in extended form on the mdl02 single) featuring qzen who reads a poem by patience agbabi in tantalising fashion as well as heavyweight, dubbed out techno groovers like shadow theory. make it true (of which seth troxler will be releasing an extended edit on his play it say it label, complete with high profile remixes) is another great collab featuring the vocals of jojo de freq, and the track itself is a harmonious, radiant house jam that is humid and human in equal measure. the otherworldly, snaking feel free again showcases berkson & what s ability to coax alluring emotions out of their machines and closer logan five wraps things up in suitably spangled, textural fashion. despite the fact much of this album will work on a dancefloor in the hands of the right dj, there s an invention and musicality to it that renders the whole thing hugely listenable away from the club. a testament to berkson & what s analogue invention and fluid ideas, keep up appearances really is a master electronic oeuvre.

skylax records, the company focused on realeasing original obscure dance classic and everythings that sounds fine to their ears ! what a special one we have here on skylax classic! damien zala, the man who put out the superb album lonely happiness on rowtag records in late 2012, who gets heavy support from the great theo parrish, dishes up six special tracks for our next release. before diving in, it is well worth noting that a selection of damiens album tracks had remixes by the likes of house icons such as dj jus-ed, rick wade and boo williams! if those names register even the slightest blip on your radar, which they should, then this record might be the treasure youve been searching for. damiens sampling technique has a certain air of grandeur to it. shake vibration makes this apparent right from the start with intricate layers of vocals, guitar licks and keys. all my respect and come around both follow suit whilst dizzie picks up the b side with a bit more energy and frenzy compared to what has come before it. the record rounds out with two tracks taking things a bit deeper. stay where you are drives forward with filtered pad chords that accompany jazzy sax and vocal cuts while conversely, z to the jz brings in a moodier vibe with its jazz samples and smoky drums. do not miss the chance to get such a gem of a record from damien zala!, c l a s s i c ! a must to have in every djs collection. essential item no digital

limited 12 inch on the tiny don pedros label from nigerian disco supremo bobby i.g featuring two of his best and most sought-after tracks on one slab of loud-pressed vinyl. originally out on the impossible-to-find *bomp* album in 1980 (i.g.s one and only release sadly), these cuts are top-class examples of early nigerian boogie, both heavy ass-shaking floorfillers boasting some phenomenal funky guitar work and ultra-groovy bass. first up is the awesome collectors favourite *disco power* while on the flip we have the equally desirable funk monster *funk ina ghetto*. totally brilliant - dont miss!
