alter is the new album from belgium-based double bass player and electronic producer otto lindholm. divided into four colour-inspired, long-form movements, alter takes off from lindholms previous work a self-titled album released in 2015 on icarus records, and pushes the already abundant palette of sounds even further. this new work is more brooding and hypnotic. a deep, resonating bass is present - hinting at the likes of greek, chamber-doom merchants mohammad but perhaps with more attention placed upon textures and melody. the record moves at a funereal pace and opener fauve hits abyssal depths from the outset. a bowed melody is coaxed through the throbbing bass with dissonant harmonics drawing you in and holding you close. the ghostly beginnings of alyscamps create an overwhelmingly tense atmosphere where acoustic and electronic elements collide and evolve into a heaving, ceremonious drone. shafts of light emerge through the fog but the tone remains a haunted one. closer, heliotrope, strikes a more hopeful note. a lighter, more open feel emerges - bringing to mind early work of the rachels or perhaps deaf center.

>a correction< is the new album from fieldhead and continues the dusty, bereft sounds of previous releases – they shook hands for hours (home assembly 2009) and riser (gizeh 2010). 2010 saw paul elam depart the uk for vancouver, canada and there is no doubt that the vast northern candian landscapes have influenced the new fieldhead material. the familiar tape hiss, scratchy, decaying atmospheres remain in place but with a correction elam has managed to sculpt a vaster, more expansive palate of sounds. minimalistic on first listen, a correction is a record which slowly unfurls on multiple listens to reveal subtle melodies and details that dont distract from the overal ambience but in fact set apart fieldheads music from many other, safer artists within the genre.

mere is a new project that began as a soundtrack and continues as an experimental, dark-ambient jazz group. guitar, drums and bass clarinet provide an intense and improvised journey into the abyss. the trio first came together to work on a soundtrack for a dutch tv documentary called visserman. having known each other for some time this was the first time they had combined together to write music and the name mere comes from the dutch word for more. each member adds a different influence to the sound, the modal finger picked guitar playing of thomas adds a sense of movement while gareth takes both folk and free jazz ideas to play against leos free rock influenced drum work. the tracks were recorded all in single takes with just a quick discussion of outline and tuning as a basic guide. gareth davis records on important, miasmah, sonic pieces, dekorder, home normal etc. collaborating with machinefabriek, steven r. smith, scanner, frances marie uitti, ryan teague, elliott sharp, ian hawgood and the like. leo fabriek releases on digitalis, home normal etc. and is also the drummer with the noise rock band julie mittens.

the great lake swallows ist eine zusammenarbeit zwischen der kanadischen cellistin julia kent und dem belgischen gitarristen/bandmaschinenmanipulator jean d.l. aufgenommen in charleroi, belgien im jahr 2015 wŠhrend einer videoinstallation mit sandrine verstraete, entstand die musik aus feldaufnahmen, bearbeiteter gitarre und cello und dient als soundtrack zu dem gleichnamigen video. das album ist ein ambientes wunderland, das auf schritt und tritt schšnheit hervorbringt. es wurde als ganzes gebaut und sollte auch als ganzes konsumiert werden. die wiederholung ist hypnotisierend, ein beruhigendes gefŸhl der ruhe, das von einem hauch von unbehagen umgeben ist, welches nahtlos in verschlafene melodien und gebrochene drones Ÿbergeht. die vier teile die sich Ÿber einen kurzen zeitraum von sechsundzwanzig minuten entfalten, enthalten keinen ton zuviel. alles, was darin enthalten ist, fŸhlt sich notwendig an, jeder satz bringt den nŠchsten, ein gesprŠch zwischen zwei herausragenden musikern.

a.r.c. soundtracks is the audio/visual project of k.craig and david armes. dereliction//mirror is the duoÕs third release, following on from a debut album, archive: volume one (little crackd rabbit) and a cassette release for sacred tapes, from a shattered beam. dereliction//mirror was created on-residency at salford s islington mill, home to gnod, sacred tapes and many other noise/experimental musicians and labels. it is an audio/visual piece that uses the semi-derelict attic spaces as both inspiration and source material. focussing on the notion of ruins and their potential for reappropriation, dereliction//mirror combines a dense, multi-layered sound-world with ritualistic visuals to create an immersive, hypnotic work. this new film and soundtrack takes us into a bleak auditory realm of post-industrial structures and traces the role of the body within these liminal spaces. strained harmonics and industrial, discordance mesh with veiled rhythms and spoken-word narrative to create a heavy, static energy to both sound and visuals.

through the sparkle is a collaboration between french ensemble astr•d and american pianist and composer rachel grimes. rachel grimes is best known for her chamber music project rachelÕs, a hugely influential group formed in 1991 in louisville, kentucky, releasing six studio albums between 1995 and 2005. she has also released a string of contemporary classical works in recent years on labels such as temporary residence. astr•d is a collective of four musicians based in nantes, releasing records on rune grammofon and home normal. after years of mail and email back and forth over the ocean, from nantes to kentucky, astr•d invited rachel to come for a residency to make music together and play shows in france. they gathered for a few days, here and there, in 2012 and 2013 to write songs in cyril and vanina s home studio in the countryside.
