&#8203,,,re-issue of hard-to-find 1971 jazz album, originally recorded and released in finland. fascinating fusion of modern jazz and elements of caribbean music, african roots and pan. quintet featuring rudy smith from trinidad & tobago, plus musicians from barbados, surinam, and ghana. tip! lars samuelson, a jazz trumpet player and producer in sweden who heard this quite unique quintet, was captivated by their concept and sound, and asked them to record an album. otinku, the resulting album, was recorded in stockholm in 1971, produced by samuelson, and originally released on the odeon label, a subsidiary of emi finland. with an afro-jazz/caribbean orientation, the selections are a rich mixture of jazz standards and original compositions, including recently re-discovered killer funk tunes otinku and sugar daddy, and a fine steel jazz version of bags groove. the album was their only release and is now a sought after item for steel pan/caribbean music fans and vinyl diggers.

it shouldn’t come as a surprise that applescal is the next in line for a release on dgtl records, seeing as he has been part of the crew since day one, with multiple appearances at their shows to his name. the atomnation label-head crafts out three tracks all coming from one single studio jam, aptly naming them harmony one, harmony two and harmony three. the record is a special one for applescal himself as well, as it’s his first full ep in two years.

dilated pupils is a collective group of likeminded friends home-based in the netherlands. when forces are joined in one of their many studios each individual brings his own influences and styles to the table. together they share a distinct flavor in productions and raw one-take jam sessions created with the use of analogue machines and often recorded on tape. each of them have their own solo productions as well as other collaborations, but when united as dilated pupils they prefer to be known jointly as one entity with their own unique and distinguished sound. since 2014 the group has developed an interesting and widespread discography with releases on labels such as fear of flying, sol asylum, mode of expression, tabla, music is art, dorcas, make sense and mayak.

there’s a reason why so many of house music’s early releases have endured over the decades. the best of them have a quality that defies logic. early house records like heard s own -washing machine,- or the -no way back- by adonis, still have the power to stun listeners and drive clubs wild. they sound alien and beautiful, simultaneously ingrained within us and so unlike everything that followed. and few sound as beautiful, or as alien, as -can you feel it.- by 1986, heard—who was born and bred in chicago and been playing in bands as a drummer—had already proved to the world that he was a master of poignant, enthralling house. the previous year’s elegant “mystery of love,” originally released on alleviated records, had featured an insistent ascending bassline repeating under a plaintive, swooning analog synth, with a gentle, conga-led rhythm setting the pace. it was soon rerecorded in a slightly more fleshed-out style, this time featuring frequent collaborator robert owens on vocals—”there’s a moment in our lives when we all must try the mystery of love”—and rereleased on d.j. international.

after the highly successful first volume in the stag-o-lee dj set series we present volume 2. again an 80 minute set - this time by stuttgart based dj joe whirlypop. joe is a jack of all trades, someone who can make a wedding crowd dance, is well versed in new wave and punk and everything in between. but his biggest love is the 50’s and early 60’s. he is playing all over stuttgart for years, but these two discs reflect his monthly shake your bones residency at stuttgarts famous goldmarks club. expect all kinds of blues - from jump to rhythm & to raw electric.

in the 1990s the collaboration between influential german artists klaus schulze and pete namlook led to the famous the dark side of the moog series. it’s an hour-long journey into space territory with a mixture of modern and classic electronic music. droning sounds flying all around, before the different parts are kicking in. the futuristic music marked them down as true innovators and it’s another great trip through their musical world. pressing on audiophile 180 gram vinyl, with the front covers of volume 1 to volume 4 form one image together.

following some now cult releases on mutli culti, turbo recordings (with the much-acclaimed “mz”) and his recent lp “lotos land” on japanese imprint endless flight, our favourite east-berlin born child sascha funke is finally coming up with an ep on hippie dance’s sister label your and your hippie friends. “i guess more than one of you have noticed my obsession with sascha funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part in my dj sets. after the pause he gave his solo work to put his attention into his amazing band project saschienne together with julienne dessagne (aka fantastic twins, also his partner in life), he came back with a really cool ep on kompakt records which i played over and over and left me wanting for more. being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before other people and when i would visit the coolest couple in berlin, sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. every time i would ask for those tracks to play them and in the club, people that i would play with would often ask who was behind them, as it happened with tiga one night in cologne, and eventually led to sascha’s music being released on turbo recordings and multi culti the following months. now i finally got the chance and honour to release a sascha funke ep on our own humble label... acatenango. like every time, it all started with me visiting berlin, sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his german car, me getting in trance while listening to it, asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets. three super cool tracks, all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable funke touch. powerful yet elegant, hypnotic yet fun, brutal yet sophisticated. sascha funke... he’s a hippie and he’s a friend.” rebolledo

some used to think that here s a guy who s just too cute to be underground, but sebastien bouchet proved them all wrong - with releases like the trippy -fallen angel- ep (kompakt 210) or his gutsy contribution to kompakt s speicher series (kompakt extra 77). he also had a spectacular appearance on you and your hippie friends inaugurating release -a very nice combinado volume uno- (yayhf 01) with the tune -captain drag- - which went on to be played around the world, from clubs and festivals to chanel fashion runways. now, sebastien returns with coyote cry, his first full-blown ep for the hippie dance sister label: eclectic and unique, this five tracker reflects different sides and moods in his work, but always takes the momentum center stage - from the guitar-infused vocal shaker jambe de bois to the heavy-duty bass of jatagarazi or the melancholic drive of the glistening title cut.

sami baha is a turkish producer based in south east london. his music was introduced to the world via his 2016 ep “mavericks” (planet mu), recorded while he was moving from istanbul to london where he’s now been living the last 3 years. sami got into producing through being a rapper himself, working with local rappers in turkey and producing beats for them, before setting his sights outside the country.
while his first record was focused around a more familiar trap based hiphop sound, “free for all” expands its range into more unfamiliar territory and also brings his production into focus by featuring a number of mcs from all corners of the globe: uk drill squad 67’s dimzy, stockholm’s yung lean and chicago rapper and singer dj nate (aka flexxbabii) who’s previously recorded on planet mu as a footwork producer. the record also features the rowdy sing-song of egyptian mcs dawsha and abanob from cairo whom sami met while on tour in egypt.

two of russian electronic music’s rising stars, phil gerus and alexander lay-far, invite you to join them at the solitary high social club. while table service is provided, they’d much rather you throw caution to the wind and head to the dancefloor.
before joining forces in the studio, both moscow-based musicians have delivered a string of memorable solo productions. lay-far has previously released a wealth of material on such labels as local talk, city fly, lazy days and 4lux black, while synthesizer fetishist gerus has showcased his electrofunk and disco-fired cuts on futureboogie recordings, sonar kollektiv, public release and superior elevation records.

oblique is proud to present it’s second various artists ep by friends we have met years ago online. before we had our first releases, we would upload our music to soundcloud and these guys were always on my radar to check instantly. besides inspiring me, their comments and feedback were invaluable to my growth as a producer. fast-forward a few years and everyone has grown in their own way, with multiple releases, labels and parties to emerge. the platforms have changed, but the connection did not, hence the idea to reunite them on wax :)

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now – 7 years later – this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks. »applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible. layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance. rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the ems studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«. the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular av performances.

this may sees climbers & teddy wong collaborate on a moody single entitled it s all about house ep , featuring remixes from haze-m, ekai & baum, recalde and andre vii. over the last couple of years, mexico s climbers has been releasing on get physical, bunny tiger, and turbo, not to mention touring the globe playing shows in europe, north america and south america. meanwhile, fellow compatriot and rngds music founder teddy wong has been making his mark with releases on desert hearts and monotonik. joining them on remix duties is tunisian artist and haze music boss haze-m, a collaboration between viva s ekai and elrow s baum, lost beach club resident recalde and platino founder andre vii. it s all about house opens with rattling drums before a booming bassline and tantalizing synths join a murky male vocal, leading into the rhythmic haze-m remix with its menacing synth that evolves into floating melodies. next up, ekai & baum s remix is an all-out acid roller, leading into deeper territories with recalde s percussive and twisted remix until andre vii s syncopated version chops up the lyrics until they re almost unrecognizable.

brother and sister eric and arrontette mcclinton had been recording for many years. around 1976 they did a 45 release together on honey records called -where you are- under the their christian names, although eric was spelled eryke! the single didn’t have much success but both brother and sister still went on to be amazing backing singers working for legendary producers mike theodore and dennis coffey. whilst they were under the watchful eye of the production team they recorded some material again and a duo for theo/coff in a bid to get them another record deal and show their capabilities. these songs never got releases. eric became and prolific song writer and also joined the group high fashion. we are super pleased to finally release the shelved songs from 1978. this in one of two releases by the duo.

in our most private moments, we have often thought of multi culti as an educational enterprise: as you listen to our music and stare at our artwork, you are absorbing information in a way that might conceivably be defined as -learning.- our latest release brings this theoretically reasonable fantasy one step closer to fruition, as we welcome hamburg-based musician and composer andi otto (ph.d) to our roster of artists. a deep listening experience focused on repetition and timbre, bow wave was made using rare and unique instruments such as a special sensor bow for cello (and other string instruments) known as the -fello,- which otto developed during his residencies at the steim research centre in amsterdam. the album also features vocals from award-winning indian playback singer, actor, and tv anchor m.d. pallavi, a frequent otto collaborator, recorded while the two were touring japan. the digital edition of bow wave includes 10 tracks, while the six-track vinyl adds remixes by ecuadorian folklorica wizard nicola cruz and parisian adult disco purveyor golden bug, both of which will be released separately in a digital remix pack alongside reworks from brazil s ricardo vincenzo and norway s center of the universe. you are free to purchase all of them.

your dystopia, my utopia is the first album produced by fulber for sonic groove and an impressive follow up to his highly celebrated 12 realism released last year. this album consists of nine expertly crafted tracks calculated and arranged in a sequence to communicate ever evolving moods for the dance floor. the opening track cognitivia is a cerebral journey composed of superior orchestrations of sound and industrialized cryptic vocals personified by symmetrical broken beats. the tracks that follow exhibit some of the most compelling industrialized and ebm infected techno ever put to vinyl. the tracks my church and you can kill are imminent future anthems, deconstructing the rules for techno and reinventing them with future ebm potential

hmot aka stas sharifullin is siberian-born, moscow-based musician, curator, educator and multi-disciplinary artist from siberia. using modular synthesizer, field recordings and visual programming languages, hmot collects sounds and organizes them into structures, pushing traditional electronic music genres beyond their comfort zones. “permanent imbalance” is his ep debut on the berlin imprint oqko following a single contribution to the label’s “form_1” compilation. structurally, “permanent imbalance” is disorderly and elusive, it’s a techno record which has undergone a gregor samsaesque metamorphosis. embedded with dizzying polyrhythmics, the discontinuity at the heart of the record might also be its central directive – interrupting the ecstatic clubbing experience in favor of a contradictory reality which is impossible to describe with regular rhythms. boldly submitted to the niche of dance music deviations, “permanent imbalance” also reveals techniques directly derived from early institutional electronics and musique concrete. but where others would pile on the layers, sharifullin keeps it trim. these are just some finishing touches enhancing his rickety and multifaceted soundscapes. subject to constant deviations of its own temporality, this music proves to mirror the crisis in which modernity resides – a state of life out of balance which now appears to be permanent as never before.

after an excellent 12inch on rosten label sstrom drops his first full length otider, which is by far the most diverse offering of the project encompassing elements of different genres and putting them in woolen and dense sonic textures. otider could be loosely translated as un-times or non-times. it positions the tracks out of specific context and rather represents them as some rediscovered artifacts relating to personal experiences of the artist. otider slightly distances sstrom from techno label as the compositions elegantly drift between lush transparency and thick grooves of outsider/lo-fi house as in kronofobi or svvaren or sensitive, yet subtly monolith and mellow techno on damm and i huvudet. in modernisten we can even trace echoes of coldwave/synth aesthetics with melancholic guitars sweeping over hypnotic rhythmic patterns, while closer sov nu introduces something which reminds a darker form of garage music with light synthpads constantly surfacing among raw mechanical beats. all the tracks were created over a relatively long period between 2010 and 2017 by employing the process where he let his hands work automatically without interference from his head. this freedom could be felt across the release, which juggles with different musical forms so lightly and organically, but at the same time maintains a coherent vision, which illustrates the vast scope and diversity of the artist.

steve pepes danza moderna takes cues of all manuel cascones musical experiences (from no wave to weird pop, from sound scores to abstract ethno music and even children music) and puts them inside the big container called dance music trying to demolish some of its automatisms. the result is seven tracks that feel too alive to enclose them in a genre. music thats playful and transcendental at the same time, with the kind of natural and effortless feel thats so hard to achieve

after releasing a brilliant and stomping three-tracker on kontra-musik white label last year, ex-durian brother harmonious thelonious returns to the kontra-musik family with an absolute gem of a record. this is everything we want dance music to be: characterful, playful and impossibly funky. harmonious thelonious is a master of crafting organic sounding rhythms but arranging them in a manner that reminds one of a 1970 s car factory. primal pulses running through modern assembly lines, gears and pistons covered in green lianas. the result is a perfect symbiosis between living tissue and mechanical parts - dance music for primitive cyborgs.

apollo proudly presents the return of sw, joined by partner svn for a sublime 6 track ep. sws lush sound design and hypnotic arrangements of 2017s the album had hearts and minds swooning following its license from sued to apollo. its balmy glory won over pitchfork (deeply expressive debut album 8/10), rolling stone (best electronic albums 2017) and xlr8r (best releases 2017) amongst many others. one year later, sw and svn have gone into the studio, together to make some original music specifically for apollo. the results are the 6 tracks on this ep, they share in a typically taciturn statement. taking inspiration from the iconic house and techno of the mid / late 90s - sw and svn combine dreamy melodies and mesmeric grooves with unfussy, focussed minimalism, their beguiling, modern take on classic sounds and rhythms remains thrillingly unique and elusive. while sw and svn are more comfortable out of the limelight, this 6 track ep for apollo once again proves that they are rightly worthy of the hype that swirls around them.

20/20 vision welcome nathan jonson to the label to deliver some of his esteemed beats - he was previously known as hrdvision, and as a member of midnight operator alongside his infamous brother mathew. it is in fact mj who gets the run of the a side with a bouncing, bubbly remix of -business- that calls to mind some of the most wriggly threads in that unmistakable jonson sound. -let your body- strikes a different tone on the b-side, conjuring up some rave ghosts and decanting them into a thoroughly modern club burner heavy on the dramatic arrangement and sure to create wild responses on the dancefloor. -business- in its original form is a loose and funky-as-hell electro jam with live, glutinous monosynth flex and detroit-tinted pads to die for.

50 is a nice number of releases to be celebrated in style, that’s why we have cooked up a very special menu for this milestone. as the spirit of the pole group team we have combined everyone’s character on this record. all tracks have been made in common, each of the label foundational members have worked on their own sound parts that in a second process have been assigned randomly to others to work on them, in a creation loop that somehow represented the true essence of the label. you’ll never now who is making what, it’s just oscar mulero, exium and reeko in essence and mixed up. you’ll find no ambient interludes, no anthems, no big breakdowns, every piece in this creation has been designed for the finest dancefloors, rough textures mixed with solid beats and continuous synth lines, techno in its essence made by those who never left the boat in ruff times, pioneers making the soundtrack of the future.

rickard jäverling, born and raised in borlange, sweden, and now living and working in stockholm is a wayward and productive musician. besides releasing material under his own name, jäverling is/has been part of constellations such as dodens dal, liljor and jäverling von euler. album 3, released on hoga nord rekords is his third solo album. album 3 breathes psychedelia, dub, swedish folk, progg and continental vintage electronic music. the songs on this album are in a way like a compilation of short stories rather than chapters in a novel. the common factor in this album is jäverlings exquisitely worked out melodies and the warm, round production but the songs can, due to the rich storytelling qualities of each one of them, almost be regarded as small albums of their own! the music made by richard jäverling is an embrace, a relative with a house by the swedish west coast or a day off, midweek in april. this album is inviting and calming but also as solid and mighty as a dalecarlian beech tree.

the next release on brazil s ever-promising disco steamer gop tun comes from renato cohen. cohen has been an infrequent mainstay of brazilian dance music for a long time now, most recently appearing on kling klong, tronic and 100% pure. his releases may not come around every day, but he makes them count when they do. -dynadisco- is a spaced out slow burner with a looped up groove and simmering pads building towards a powerful, funk-fuelled bass drop. -party jam- takes a lighter approach, keeping the samples sprightly and even sprinkling a little acid magic into the tune. it gives whatever/whatever plenty to be working on their remix, which spreads across the b side in a fit of electro-disco finery.

after his initial release on world unknown records way back in 2011 - a tunethat featured on andrew weatherall s ministry of sound masterpiece 2012 compilation - kalidasa has also released music via magic feet and tusk wax. this latest release sees him ploughing along a similar musical line. the mirage and sun aki are both tracks for those who like to chug-along to the more refined, no frills tunes that do exactly what they say on the tin. both are perfect spaced out and otherworldly grooves for strobe filled and lazer infused dark basements. soft rocks throw around some magical dust on the flip for their sun goes up, sun goes down remix which sees them turn the mirage into a 9 minute time lapse venturing from an early morning ambient start through to a pulsating electronic drive through the stars.

taking inspiration from music, nature and the elements that surround them, jukka hänninen and mika hanka aka shuffless have quickly garnered the attention of many within house and techno since making their production debut in 2016. written at the vislampi studio, located in ruutana city, finland, using a combination of hardware gear from the likes of roland, korg and arturia, here we see the duo reveal their latest work with four diverse and expansive cuts set for release this spring as they return to syncrophone s in-house imprint. opening up the ep, hänninen and hanka fluently introduce chi , a complex and evolving cut that effortlessly fuses deep, rich chords, and delicate, skipping hi-hats, before easing into the flowing groove of lahti with its jazz-tinged melodies and heady tones guiding the production into lighter territories. on the flip, nime Ñvailla introduces a matrix of hazy textures amongst crunchy percussion licks and dubbed out atmospherics as the duo return to deeper, darker realms, before title cut puollaskel punctuates the package in classy fashion, laying down gritty analog percussion, resounding kicks and subtly programmed nuances to conclude an excellently worked ep.

milan based collective just this are proud to present the ‘absolute infinity ep’, a joint release from netherlands-based producers sinfol and octual. featured in this package are two remixes from gerd janson prescribing a heavy dose of acid. title track is a stripped back groove with a looping synth lead that wanders through ricocheting drums. for his first remix gerd muffles the framework of the original, making room for a floating melody and warm lead, whilst the ‘acid only’ version takes the components of the original and throws them into a bath full of acid. closing off the ep is ‘wire’, a moody dancefloor cut for the after-hours.
