charlois welcomes back label inaugurator dollkraut, this time in company with de ambassade. the label grants permission for them to share this 10 and create their own world, so they can coexist and share stories about lost love, condolence and isolation. on the a side they come together in a dark room anthem about sex, lust and worship. it oozes with cold, heart-stabbing melancholia, yet carries the artists idiosyncratic warm and crunchy sound. the flip side scratches open the wounds left by the first song and sees dollkraut drop his soft touch. what follows is a hypnotic voodoo track, summoning dark spirits with unsettling synths, shamanic vocals and tribal jewish harp.
nico nightingale, aka neud photo, is no stranger to collaborations. the new yorker s latest sees him teaming up with cristiano f. grimaldi to form intrzn, a partnership meshing a free style approach to melodies with cold rhythms. their -zone- quartet is a twilight of fluctuating moods. percussion is bare, allowing bright bars to shine and darker moments to fester. music which in one breath is elated and uplifting and, the next, dejected and downtrodden.
bionda e lupo are like little you ll have heard before, a boy/girl band like no other. synth wave is fed a line of modern alienation, delusory disco to a disdainful drum beat, house emptied and ridiculed. rhythms are stark, melodies are as mechanical as the lyrics. -zug der vogel- is sparse, vocals intertwine in an empty embrace whilst bars sparkle. -twoi glasza- is more playful. bright words shimmer against sweeping strings. the past is parodied across the ep but nowhere more so than in -die kinder aus dem park.- a former classic dug out before being peppered by machine gun percussion. the stilted rhyme of -eckstein- closes, a ballad of bittersweet images and lost hopes.

the ep starts with the german vocalized protest song -uberall polizei, nirgendwo gerechtigkeit-, an ebm inspired track which reminds us of the early 80s belgium artists like the neon judgement and nitzer ebb. on the flip the riot continues with -kriegdienstverweigerer-, a hypnotic neo-electronic jam with rattling synths, psychedelic baselines and a repetitive robotic vocoder on top. the ep ends with the title track -unify-, a deep cold cinematic floor burner.
mastermaster kicks things off and drives a shifting sequence through a lo-fi break, plodding piano notes and a clipped, lively vocal hook before -bruce wayne- melds spring reverb and squelching flangers to treat guitar riffs and more 80s drums. eerily wobbling synths shimmer over head before -hornet green- drives a sprung kick under tense, soundtrack synth tones and a sandy shuffle as a cinematic pursuit is rendered. -valium- then sets sultry vocals floating through more hazy drum breaks and softly shifting chords. rhythmic variation and more vintage effects wade in and round off off a refreshing package of rich and intriguing gems and another fine addition to the charlois series.
