berlin based pardon moi, consisting of james brook and thomas freudenthal, makes music that would fit perfect as a soundtrack for a ride in a ferrari gto convertible, or on a transatlantic flight on a concorde. unfortunately, vintage ferraris are ridiculously expensive and concords are taken out of flight but still the music creates an air of luxury and decadence for you to fill your lungs and air with. this 7inch release on hoga nord rekords is the first on the label but the duo have released material on nein records and vocoder electro.

love notes reach their tenth release with a double pack from label regular tape_hiss. following on from two crucial 12-s that landed on the label last year, the brooklyn artist steps up with eight cuts of purest heat that remind you just how much mileage there still is in no-nonsense hardware jams. there s a consistent mood of immersive, undulating house coursing throughout, with warm, punchy acid basslines offset by intricate percussion and dreamy pads that sit easy on the ears. -folding space- is a standout track with its delicate beats and refined lead lines, while -no neck & bad as hell- brings a little electro bite into the mix, with stunning results.

the enigmatic label from berlin, schakal recordings is back with its fifth release and young dj lorenz lepus is next in line. the lepus project has gone through many guises, finally lorenz settled on making music as a solo artist under the lorenz lepus alias in 2014. while still studying at school lorenz became a resident at chalet’s tuesday sound department parties, cutting his teeth in the cities clubs he has played in venues including hoppetosse, sisyphos, arena and many more. this dedication to his music was not without some confusion, being aware of the melan- cholic minimal tendencies of his productions he has always been loathe to pin himself to a particular genre.what with the success of his career so far.. perhaps this isn t a bad thing. ‘feral child’ is made up of two original tracks and two remixes.the title track s melody swells until it breaks down into a pulsing and rolling rhythm. ‘lost’ is more immediate in its dance-floor compatibly, maintaining the rolling style lorenz imbues his take on deep house with an emotional poignancy rarely heard. floyd lavine steps up for the first remix on the ep, floyd is a resident at the legendary rise par- ties at watergate, with one foot in berlin and the other in his native cape town floyd delivers a beauti- fully loopy and oddball twist on ‘feral child’ adding crunching static sounds. providing a harder take on ‘feral child’, italies vii circle change the rolling melody into a slow techno heater.

elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. i’ve known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place i’d play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. i’m so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like they’re getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that we’re all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldn’t be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

following “conningham ep” reach return with another uncompromising 12” from duo thread. dropping it’s predecessors unashamedly raw bashfulness, “goldhawk ep” is a subtler, deeper affair yet it still maintains its bass heavy, electro leaning edge.
the first track “ellerslie” ets the tone for the ep, a trip through the cosmos, with shimmering synth lines taking you on a journey through the galaxy. subtle variations float effortlessly on the driving rhythm patterns, the bassline only a distant presence. the 2nd cut “sycamore” is another journey into the deep, a slightly more housey affair, a motorik drum patterns carrying an eerie, deep atmosphere that is punctuated by melodic patterns appearing unexpectedly.

(get bad). the result? one of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017. queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but music for freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by luke solomon and justin harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. originally released back in 1984,two sharp pencils (get bad) is a record by queen drum-mer roger taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of anna wall & corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summers most essential records. born and bred in the uk, anna wall is a dj, producer and label owner who is a key player in london’s underground house music scene. her label the bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while anna herself has djd all over the world, most recently for mixmag at pacha for their ims launch party. corbi is an ibiza-based dj and producer, a&r for the highly respected fina records and co-founder of melon bomb, a party and dj collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the white isles most talked-about exports. having met while working at house giant defected records some years ago, anna felt that corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of two sharp pencils.

having sprung into action with the sol explorer ep on girasole, william caycedo is back with a new selection of jams on the ever-developing slapfunk. as the label s remit for minimal house and techno broadens, we re treated to low slung leftfield beats on -booty call- before the peppier broken beat groove of -ain t no joke-. -creepin - and -g groove- head into more familiar territory for slapfunk fans, but there s still space for the crisp, laid back funk of -tales from the west- and the off-kilter jazzy vibes of -yes we do- thrown in for good measure.

the second release on figure jams continues to pursue our new concept of pairing certain artists together, this time placing the seasoned swedish sound sculptor patrik skoog alongside abstract division, a collaborative project of paul boex and dave miller, two equally experienced dutch producers. the latter deliver a pair of straight-forward tunes that seemingly stem from the depths of space. with an intimidating backdrop of menacing and rummaging drones they carefully create a constant sense of alarming tension that is never lifted. this abstract threat takes solid shape in patrik skoogs slamming -the field-, a heavy hitter of immense magnitude that despite packing a bouncy punch still stays afloat thanks to its lightly dancing hats. another agile alien grooves closes the ep, with rides zooming in and out, slingering and cutting through the tracks subtly booming body

thule s dark doppelganger ae recordings was revived last year with the excellent freyja ep by nonnimal, and now the saga continues with this devastatingly on-point release from cold. much like the vibe on thule, the music on thule continues to channel the mood of the icy tundra into refined, modern club tracks, but there s definitely a more sinister intent at work in these tracks from cold. -aerials- is a nightmarish chugger loaded with eerie sonics, while -phased out- lays down some fine dubby processing over a bed of chilly chord pulses. -exiles- is a standout track thanks to its crafty groove, coming on a little more housey than its counterparts but still heavier than the average thule jam.

time for a little neck bulging, slimy skin hip-slinking summer fun as a true craftsman steps from the studio shadows: jay shepheard, who’s back with a track that’s so infectious if you licked its back you’d trip for weeks. prepare yourselves for ‘bullfrogging’: wry funk, warmth and humanised technoid soul. taking a vocal texture then processing, harmonising and splicing the spawn out of it, jay’s precision balance of electronic hustle and anthromorphised action has all the hallmarks for a summer anthem. ‘early doors’ follows suit and there’s a massive clue in the title… soft-focused, warm, rolling and laced with textured chimes, it’s definitely tailored for those key transitions between warm-up and second gear. deep, trippy but coded with a hookiness that grabs rather than soothes, once again it’s classic shepheard but with a revitalised 2017 twist. hey, he didn’t lock himself away in the studio for twelve months for nothing, right? neither did jay’s long-time friend and neighbour mark henning, a man who hasn’t taken on a remix since the early 2010s. his return to the remix game is as poignant and powerful as jay’s return to releases as he removes around 70 percent of the frog and maximises the bullishness of the elements, creating a relentless tribal slammer of a version that still retains the warmth and soul of jay’s original. two returns to action, three killer tracks, one label you can always count on as your friend and no frogs harmed during the whole process. we’re pulling out some serious stops here.

this record is the result of an undeniable desire to uncover a once lost and forgotten gem from beyond the dust. to recover the magic underneath, that has never grown nor subsided and doesn’t belong to anything but itself. a love story between two music labels that found each other in this blissful journey, lossless and something happening somewhere are here to presents the next chapter in their findings. uzoamaka is an original track by king britt from 2002, that still remains as fresh and uplifting as it was 15 years ago. nuno dos santos (sohaso) has been in love with the sonic narrative since it was released, but felt the urge to bring the transformative beauty to a wider audience. in an attempt to recover the original, the original master and pre-master turned out to be lost by the waves of time. calyx mastering have remastered the music straight from vinyl, keeping the raw charm of the original but giving it a sonic facelift to fit with modern standards, also making it available in the digital format for the first time since it’s release. the original by king britt is an ode to the ritual of dance music in it’s purest form. with vocals panning across the stereo field that preach ‘sing, dance, be, free to dance’, it resonates with the primordial human playfulness, joy and expression in all of us. teasing with a melodic bassline, almost reaching twelve minutes running time, it’s a modern hymn that never fails to mesmerize and bring people’s spirit together. besides remastering the original, it gave the opportunity to invite other artists to retell the story. this time the mighty dixon gives the original track an update for modern dance floors. pushing the groove to the foreground, adding some extra percussion and drive while letting the choir guide you to a monumental break in which the chord suspends in the air. “free to… free to… free to…” nuno dos santos has used his magic touch for a short beat edit, which focusses the whole affair on the groove even more. a powerful tool to add some impact to tracks or to break up an otherwise repetitious dj set. mathias schober is back under his sb alias, carefully tightening and shortening the original version from 2002 with his edit to create a version that celebrates the quality of the elements. pushing and pulling, enhancing the entrancing effect of the musical soul.

the fifth release in ygroks limited catalog debuts the dkm project of samantha waldram, a native of barcelona. the a1 is her rework of the sound poem titled little ali hommage to forough farrokhzad by giorgio sancristoforo, a contemporary italian sound artist. the heavy rolling groove makes her track compatible with any dancefloor while still keeping the wild psychedelic flavor of the piece. giorgios original piece opens the b side with its disorienting collage of bells, modular bleeps and cresting, tumbling waves of persian syllables. the ep closes with a stripped down beat and soundscape tool in the finest ygrok tradition

frigio records is going back in time for its latest release, some 38 years into the past. back then a young newcastle man was experimenting with early electronic instruments and synths. mick clarke is his name and nearly forty years later he is still at it. two tracks have been borrowed from clarke s seminal games lp, each given a bit of modern boot polish from minimalrome s heinrich dressel and frigio father juanpablo.

-walls of the night- is a blissed out work of ambient prog rock abstraction. think rumbling horror score and soaring guitar strings. heinrich dressel offers a giallo dipped remix. the building bars of the original are maintained, beats added for ballast and darkened organ keys for a remake etched with murderous intent. the flip is introduced by the dreamy -time is now.- slender synthlines intertwine with gentle strings in a cerebral work. juanpablo tweaks the 1979 material. syrupy acid lines swim in meandering currents, a thick beat keeping time in murky waters of modulations and undulations.

arnaldo launched naturist recordings this year and is on to the second release, ’folk in the path’ is more dance floor oriented than his previous work but still delivers his own brand of airy organic house. the label aims to release stripped back and soulful music, focusing on the journey rather than the destination. originally from argentina, arnaldo now lives in berlin, he has released on smallville, aim, greta cottage, untilmyheartstops & blank slate. he has also appeared on scissor and thread under the low-key rosa nievas alias and has a monthly nts show. artwork by jen von klitzing.

the music ep, released on carters organico label still sounds totally streets ahead today, a sublime 4 tracker existing in the deepest recesses of the dance-floor. beautifully deep constructed house music filled with emotion and soul, the music ep ticks a lot of boxes. in fact, it d be surprising if this record ever leaves your bag. so many moods are contained within it s grooves - melancholy, narcotic delusional happiness, sheer abandonment, it s all here.

ralphi rosario is a pioneer of house music, kicking off an influential dj career in chicago when he was still in high school. the remixes and productions that followed have garnered him #1 billboard dance chart hits as well as more than 20 well-respected years spinning records. he’s an artist who represents the ethos of glitterbox recordings, with decades of quality house music history woven into every beat. also in line with the spirit of the label, ‘wanna give it up’ is a classic track given some very tasteful modern updates, from dr packer and jamie 3:26. the familiar ‘légo’s dub’ from the original release is present and correct, alongside a suitably funked-up version from disco edits maestro dr packer. finally, fellow chicagoan jamie 3:26 amps the party up a further notch with some irresistible clinking percussion and a lazy-cool groove.

„umwelt’s 12inch “… city” from 1999 was one of the most impressive 12inches i had at that time and i played the shit out of it. it was dark and very emotional, it was abstract but also driving at the same time. this was 1999 though, before discogs and before facebook and all the other platforms people have now to do research on artists they like and follow their work. at that time it was the record shop – and that was it. nobody knew this guy though, and i didn’t get my hands on any of the following releases, so in my world there was no follow-up to this record ever and i thought it would remain a one-off gem in my record box. until by some coincident i recently discovered he was still around and had actually released numerous releases in the meantime. i was very excited and contacted him straight away and ended up booking him for krake festival in the same year. undoubtedly his set was one of the best of the whole festival! he took the roof off the place with his mix of raw electro, industrial and rave and everybody was talking about it afterwards, saying it was the highlight of the festival! talking to him i learnt, that most of the tracks he played were his own, mostly unreleased. he produces without computers, all his tracks are single takes, there is no editing, no mixing afterwards, he only has a stereo track recording which is what it is. he owns a cutting machine which he uses to cut dubplates from his tracks, which he then plays out during his sets. this whole information about this very unique artistic approach just killed it for me, and since working with him was so nice as well, i asked him for a demo for killekill and its labels and was hoping for tracks i could make a great 12&#8243,, of. i got 14 tracks and after weeks of trying to pick the best, i finally realized i held one of the best electro albums ever in my hand – banging beats and the balls to go big and epic, subtle melodies, drama, funk – this album has got it all, and what’s most important, the music on it is the exact opposite of so much other music nowadays: it is emotional, it tells a story, it is easily recognizable and it is not interchangeable. it’s just umwelt.“ nico deuster

154 s cult 2004 album strike is being re-issued on the producer s own nwaq/ape label on heavyweight 180g vinyl. mixing up ambient, techno and abstract designs into deep, sci-fi influenced soundtracks, it still sounds as fresh and unique today as it did back then, and remains an expensive and in demand record on discogs as well as an important album that has influenced many producers since.

quality reissue of the highly sought-after promo 12 inch of the legendary idris muhammeds incredible 1977 disco classic *could heaven ever be like this* - eight and a half mesmerising minutes of hypnotic slow-building disco-funk huge on the early nyc disco scene which became an anthem at mancusos loft parties and is still in high demand today. on the flip, *tasty cakes* is a nice lighthearted disco bubbler but the clear go-to track on this side is the awesome hot funk groove of *turn this mutha out* as sampled by to great effect by moodymann for his amerika kdj release. essential!

thomas schumacher is finally back on noir music with another outstanding 2-tracker. over the years me and thomas have become great friends as we click on so many levels and share the same taste in dark, melancholic and emotional music. i have been a big fan of thomas’ music for many years and i am still a great supporter of his productions today so obviously i am honored to release his music on my label again. on these 2 tracks thomas has recorded 2 authentic and raw tracks with a no holding back, zero bulls*** attitude. you can hear the “no formular” approach on both and i love that. we had an honest and creative back and forth a&r process on both tracks before and after testing them in the clubs and this has given both a unique and fresh techno sound. this is thomas schumacher’s natural rhythm.
