returning after some time off, two dogs in a house took to a secluded studio in stockholm sweden during spring 2012 to record while on the road. here we have the result of uninhibited access to machines with no time constraints and no distractions from the outside world. this freedom allowed the duo to expand upon their ideas of deconstructing conventional song structure and harnessing the power of what immediately surrounded them in the moment. two full side tracks that will absolutely crush and/or isolate anyone who crosses through the sonic pathway of them. perfect sounds for the apocalyptic world we live in.

on faaveelaa jameszoo displays the kind of brazen ingenuity that youth affords by drawing inspiration from dancehall before finding its edge to craft an entirely new take on the genre and using that to paint a colourful sonic picture of what he imagines a favela might look like. sounds mad? it is, in a good way. by his own admittance the picture he paints is also a bit messy, yet there is beauty in chaos. as for the inspiration, it can sometimes be hard to hear at first though anyone familiar with jamaicas dancehall tradition will recognise the instantly catchy quality of faaveelaas riddims.

emerging from the endless summers of venice, ca to teaming up with shlohmo, jonwayne, d33j, rl grime and more to form the wedidit crew, jasper patterson aka groundislava has transformed from bashful video gamer to full-fledged composer. the son of michael patterson (who directed a-has standout music video >take on me< and paula abduls >opposites attract<), groundislava has roots that draw from 80s nostalgia, tv and pop culture that grow and transform into the 21st century aesthetic of electronic music.

ununhexium (r-n 116) is the sixth release of raster-noton unun series. emptyset is a bristol based project formed in 2005 by james ginzburg, di- rector of the multiverse studios and the curator and electronic artist paul pur- gas. the project explores the legacy of analogue media, integrating aspects of rhythm, signal processing and spatial recording within the framework of mini- malist composition. their work interrogates the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to em- bed and codify themselves within sound. collapsed is emptysets first release on raster-noton and investigates the threshold where sonic structure is destabilized to the point where a chaotic order emerges out of a resistance to fragmentation and likewise explores the potential contained within this liminal space of transition. across the four tracks of the release a structural grammar is defined and then pushed to excess to the point where it reforms from repetitive and stable frameworks into non-grid based forms and ultimately chaotic rule sets.

foam fangs could be a term used to describe silks preferred take on that too-easily dismissed 70s dancefloor dementia of disco – the soft bite, love nibble, mirrorball on steady/ready perma-revolve. jesse reiner (jonas reinhardts first mister, alongside past/part-time collaborators like phil manley of trans am and damon palermo of mi ami/magic touch), who never quite had the kranky krinkle of his ohm-ambient labelmates, travels head-on, tomorrowland-style, through long-form cosmic moroder constellations of >foam fangs<. nothing frothy about it, though there is a bit of the rubbery in reiner’s bounce-about, cool, funky kraut-disco. suddenly we are beaming back to a time when the world looked forward, envisioning a 21st century decked with silver, chrome, and neoprene. it is a sonic space both transparent and shiny, the metallic ding and cold ribbon of data, scrolling through infinite space. the opener, >foam fangs<, transports us instantly into an ever-expanding universe of sound and light at once fanning out and folding in on itself. variations on that theme continue as the jonas journey oscillates through the beat-beyond.

blank code presents bcr002 - beta ep from the plant worker (also known as a. trebor), released on 12 inch vinyl with custom made silk screened jackets and available with an additional track found exclusively on the digital release. beta 01 represents merciless techno, with a pounding kick and unexpected drops that leave the listener gasping for breath. the luis flores remix introduces a subtle swing, making it more danceable than the original while still retaining the ominous tones imbued in the track by the plant worker. beta 02 stumbles in with anxious acid synths and urgent hi-hat patterns, slowly building to a massive climax. mysterious chimes wandering around the sonic space give a haunting feel to beta 03, the eery conclusion of the vinyl version of the release. the eps digital exclusive, beta 04, returns the listener to the original themes of beta 01 – open, reverberating bass accented by the sounds of echoing metallic decay.
