in the beginning, ekoplekz promised wncl recordings that, should he attempt to make any tracks for the club, he would get in touch. good to his word, the artist formerly known as gutterbreakz aka nick edwards has delivered this 6 track beast. it does rather beg the questions – which clubs has he been frequenting? and how do we get on the guest list?

knowing looks kicked off 2011 for wncl recordings with with his much loved, hard stepping abandoned skip, backed with the acclaimed symphonic masterpiece that was last kiss at the plains hotel. jason hopfner is back again to neatly tie up a busy year at wncl hq, unveilling the classically constructed epic listen to my 45 - described by ben ufo as >lovely. gorgeous. slick. buff etc< … and who are we to disagree. just do what it says on the tin, then flip over for ghost baby - yet another fine example from hopfners rich and varied production cannon, melding super cool minimalism with party breaks. merry christmas from the cassette library!

tribute to larry heard, placed over a stripped down dubstep template on the flip, we present an exclusive remix by prolific dub-techno don quantec (styrax / echochord) who doesnÒt disappoint with a subaquatic groove of enormous proportions. quantec aka sven scheinhammer is a prolific and highly respected producer from berlin who has been releasing high quality house and techno tracks since the mid-90Òs on an array of well respected labels including echocord, styrax leaves, millions of moments and meanwhile. his sub-aquatic grooves span the music of detroit and berlin, referencing the classic sound of basic channel and catching the ears of the main players in various sub genres currently flirting with the crossover sounds of dub techno. quantecs remix of mrs fingers has already received fantastic praise and club support from the likes of 2562, headhunter and brackles, as well as radio play on radio 1, rinse fm and xfm.

after his recently, well acclaimed balearic adventures as “jane in palma”, don froth makes a welcome return to the wncl fold. he comes out fighting with the bass and bleep heavy “hr22”, nicely juxtaposed with the equally quirky but altogether more soulful sounds on “joint loose”. flip to the b side for more jump up adventures with -docs- and, by popular demand, his previously bite-sized cut “a broad range” gets extended into a full on acid squelch “widescreen mix” to close the show.

james duncan - producer of a flawless string of ep s for labels such as real soon and his own le systeme imprint, horns man for metro area, morgan geist and lem springsteen (mood ii swing) and currently on trumpet duties for sal principato (liquid liquid) - invites us to join him on a whistle stop tour through some of the subway stations in his neighbourhood for the first in a series of “brooklyn beats”.

when wncl012 hero, kevin mcphee, dropped the unreleased bobby champs dubplate of *krenshaw* in his boiler room set last year, the cassette library instantly knew that they had found their lucky star for wncl013. with his trademark boxy drum sound littering the contents of this ep, the man who likes *…making songs that make you want to dance* has done it again.

wncl recordings and kevin mcphee have spent many a moon discussing a shared love of mood ii swing, dubplate culture and bobby champs amongst other things. in between times, the canadian young-gun has been honing 4 tracks to present wncl012 – a finely crafted extended play in which mcphee gets his clonk on. >…in keeping with wncls hard jacking groove tendencies mcphee produces four slices of brick hard house that you will be hard pressed to even try and overlook.< (sonic router)

wncl recordings enters the next phase of its release programme. having issued a neat collection of ten 10 inch singles, the label now launches a series of 4 track 12 inch eps. first up is a showcase featuring 4 new cuts by 4 of the labels cornerstone artists. l.a.s don froth comes out fighting with the hard-as-nails liftin weights, while milyoo from kentucky gets frantic on the raucous pancake. se27s own west norwood cassette library offers up what it is (mah vip), originally created for mz. hobbs radio 1 show. rounding things off from toronto, knowing looks gives us cytal fink, angular funk for all discerning discotheques. we hope you will enjoy our show.

wncl recordings tenth and final release in its 10 inch series is west norwood cassette librarys own coming on strong. the a side original mix was produced by chris simmonds, legend of the uk underground, and recorded at cross section records own house proud studios. the b side remixer should need no introduction. pangaea strips down the original samples to the bare bones and, predictably, delivers the unpredictable.

ultramarine have history. as far as track records go, theirs is as close to perfection as you can get … but you can go knock yourself out on google for that - we are not here to talk about yesterday. today, ian cooper and paul hammond give us acid and butch - two timeless trax with an eye on tomorrow …

l.a.s don froth has recently been busy remixing catelepsia, engineering for dj harvey and releasing on his own frothn imprint, not to mention his larger-than-life, limited release >10.000cc< for phonica records. here he reminds us all that 138bpm is not yet a spent force. wncl recordings is proud to present balboa and von - two trax offering super-fresh beats with exhaustingly endless twists and turns. strictly for dancers.

2011 sees the ever-prolific milyoo stretching out from his kentucky base, heading for world domination and gracing south-east londons favourite cassette library with his presence along the way. >biogram v2< locks disparate vocal fragments and found sounds into a low-down, cranky house groove, peppered with a boogie down bassline and sweeping, straight-outta-chi-town strings. for the flipside, the in-house wncl remix department selects a few choice clippings from the original to present a jam tailored for the trackheads with their feet on the dancefloor.

supported by 2562, ben ufo.... knowing looks aka toronto based producer jason hopfner, records for musique risquee, is the co-founder of grain records and is a welcome addition to the wncl stable. abandoned skip is an unashamed dancefloor killer with its hard as hell 2-step beats, irresistible shuffle, swathes of funky electronics and perfectly placed rebel-rousing vocal chants. last kiss at the plains hotel, an epic tale of love and loss, displays a mastery of cut-up production and arrangement that nods as much to bacharach and mantovani as it winks to todd edwards and akufen.
