for the past two years, nils frahm has been building a brand new studio in berlin to make his 7th studio album titled all melody, which will be released on january 26th, 2018 via erased tapes, before nils embarks on his first world tour since 2015.
since the day nils first encountered the impressive studio of a family friend, he had envisioned to create one of his own at such a large scale. fast forward to the present day and nils is now the proud host of saal 3, part of the historical 1950s east german funkhaus building beside the river spree. it is here where he has spent most of his time deconstructing and reconstructing the entire space from the cabling and electricity to the woodwork, before moving on to the finer elements, building a pipe organ and creating a mixing desk all from scratch with the help of his friends. this is somewhere music can be nurtured and not neglected, and where he can somewhat fulfil his pursuit of presenting music to the world as close to his imagination as possible.

re-issued again, with new liner notes. a wonderful, rare record wrapped in a mysterious yet playful ambiance. or maybe it s just the impression that the japanese language often gives me. suiren is an odd jazz-fusion-wave tune that sounds like its boiling, waiting to burst but somehow manages to stay in control. like the nervous tick of a leg fidgeting under the table of a restaurant on a first date. yasuaki shimizu is a japanese composer, producer and saxophone player born in 1954. he worked with ryuchi sakimoto on certain arrangements, with the south korean artist nam june paik on art+sound installation pieces and even dj towa tei (of deee-lite fame). suiren was released in 1981 and is the opening title on the sought-after kakashi album and is my personal favorite on this overall brilliant record. it weaves behind new wave, jazz, fusion, ambient and experimental music.

hot off the heels of the beautiful obsolete machines lp released this month, radiuss cassette demo restoration project returns to form with the interpolation tapes series. the original source tapes had aged, warped and degraded and as a result we ve preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed with a vintage prophet 2000 sampler, studio 440 and various linn samplers to add depth and range to the original source material. we ve spent nearly an entire year restoring and interpolating over 100 hours of music, processing sound and redesigning the blueprints of this long forgotten project. every track was originally recorded down to an old tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. we ve had nearly every component replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life. it s been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and re-arranging these masters, regardless of the time passed, there s so much depth in sound design, raw emotions and when considering the limitations of hardware in the era these were recorded, they ve truly aged like a fine wine. we hope you enjoy this magical time in music, as we are very inspired by all that was happening in those years, theres undeniably something in the air, a mystifying energy, long may it live on.

damon wild and david sumner (aka functions) relationship dates back to 1991 at lord michaels future shock, limelight, new york city when damon was running experimental records via northcott productions. at the time, he first saw something in dave and added him to brand x, a record pool run by moneypenny. but their bond is based around a period 5 years later when dave had an apartment above rogue music at 251 west 30th street in midtown, manhattan. it was during this time damon developed him as a synewave artist and released his first ep as function in the fall of 1996 catalog number sw-24. falling in and out of touch over the years, across continents, the two have somehow remained on the same cosmic path. so itÕs not a coincidence that now damon has turned to dave to release his first album in 13 years, during the time he is reissuing that first synewave ep on recompiled i/ii & ii/ii (a-ton lp02/03). this is where those paths cross again. 21 years later, this fall, dave will release cosmic path on infrastructure. the cosmic connection.

recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival Ð the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

with many influences, the musicians of la mano create a peculiar sound, a rock-salsa-ra•-reggae-rap cocktail which they baptize patchanka. manu chao, who writes lyrics, gives to the patchanka a more personal definition: a popular dance with apache lyrics and chorizo spirit. the band starts touring across france in october 1987 and rapidly establishes a solid reputation. a few months later, when the second record putas fever is released, the success is obvious. tracks sung in french, spanish or arabic, pas assez de toi, king kong five or sidi hbibi are immediate hits. after a long live-cruise in 1992 along the south american coasts, la mano negra gets back to france and separates in 1994. its hard to tell the impact of la mano negra across french and spanish speaking countries, with as many particular experiences that people lived during their tours.

the trickfinger project was recorded 10 years ago with no intention of being released at the time, made purely for discovery and learning experience. -in my opinion, making music with no intention of releasing it is the best thing a musician can do for his own development in this day and age. the trickfinger lp was made in that mindset, and it was the beginning of a new musical life for me. when i hear it, it sounds like i am opening up doorways to new worlds, and i never have had that feeling listening to music i made for the purpose of releasing it and selling it.- all the music was recorded live onto a cd burner, through a cheap mixer. john would sit on a chair, in his living room, surrounded by five to 15 machines, and just keep programming and jamming until the track was ready to be recorded. there were no overdubs Ð recorded all live

through the sparkle is a collaboration between french ensemble astr•d and american pianist and composer rachel grimes. rachel grimes is best known for her chamber music project rachelÕs, a hugely influential group formed in 1991 in louisville, kentucky, releasing six studio albums between 1995 and 2005. she has also released a string of contemporary classical works in recent years on labels such as temporary residence. astr•d is a collective of four musicians based in nantes, releasing records on rune grammofon and home normal. after years of mail and email back and forth over the ocean, from nantes to kentucky, astr•d invited rachel to come for a residency to make music together and play shows in france. they gathered for a few days, here and there, in 2012 and 2013 to write songs in cyril and vanina s home studio in the countryside.

* back with the heat, chicago native dj jana rush kicks off objects limitedÕs 2017 with her debut album ÔpariahÕ. jana rush received attention for her mind-bending drum acrobatics on last year s Ômpc 7635Õ ep also released by objects ltd. jana started djing aged just 13, releasing her first record on dance mania back in 1996 but having a hiatus from music between 2000 to 2013. with ÔpariahÕ she has created an album rooted in chicago s footwork sound, but with a myriad of influences, such as jungle, acid, soul, jazz and house, developing her sound on from Ômpc 7635Õ. * we kick off with Ômidline shiftÕ whose breathy, clipped erotic vocals intertwine with a pulsing bass and dry 808 rims creating a shimmering robotic effect. moving on, the frantic Ôbeat mazeÕ confuses the mind with white noise rushes and interlocking snares. changing the scene, ÔdivineÕ is sweetly soporific and charming, a beautiful, almost eerie track. the pace picks right back up with Ô??? ??Õ, whose warbling jazz clarinets cut into a juke bounce. the stripped back beats of Ôbreak itÕ give one room to breathe before the croaking bass and distorted acid of Ôno fuks givenÕ. Ôold skoolÕ is exactly what you d expect, its sample syncopated around a feverish rhythm throughout. both Ôrapid fire and Ôacid tech 2Õ are bangers, hitting you deep in that sweet spot. jana brings it back down with ÕcpuÕ s computer noises and sub bass hits. Ôchill modeÕ gives time for reflection after all that fire, but its no ambient track, theres still that chi-town vibe. we finish with Ôfrenetic snareÕ whose amen breaks will have brits thinking of jungle, but it s a different beast altogether

claude debussy (+1918) was one of the most popular and forward thinking composer associated with impressionist music. his innovative and at this time new way to compose music with non traditional scales and chromaticism inspired countless artists from the likes of steve reich, philip glass, miles davis and herbie hancock. remarkable attributes of his music were i.e. the usage of parallel chords, bitonality and many compositions of whole-tone and pentatonic scales and all this surely reminds us on contemporary electronic music where you hardly find limits or boundaries when it comes to traditional, harmonic sounding scale tone music. after studying countless composers of the last centuries marc romboy decided to accept the challenge to edit, remix and reconstruct several works of his favorite french composer, ranging from ãla merÒ to -prŽlude ˆ l aprs-midi d un fauneÒ. romboy: ãone sentence of debussy impressed me a lot when he said that he simply intents to write new sounding music. this is and has been exactly my goal, to create kind of unheard soundsÒ. on the album romboy performs together with the dortmund philharmonic orchestra, the renowned conductor ingo-martin stadtmŸller, the well respected dŸsseldorf based concert master miki kekenj and sound programmer ali khalaj. the recordings was directed december 12th 2016. its the first live recording ever released on an album where electronic sounds and classical components were merged in such manner.

love and money front man james grant has collaborated with producer gordy goudie to form the korvids, releasing a dance album. for the older generation who might want to bust a move once more in honour of their younger selves. james says, i wanted to be someone else for a while. sound different. write different. it can be dreary being me all the time..i sing most of my vocals on the record in falsetto, which, as we know, is the international language of disco. the korvids marry their love of disco and 70 s funk with influences such as deodato, massive attack, miles and anything else that takes their fancy. after the success of their debut release beach coma, which was picked up by sirius us radio and remixed by balaeric legend jose padilla, the duo released bad faith, a beauteous cut of late 70 s disco remixed by love & money and steely dan s producer gary katz. james was the front man for love and money, everyone s favourite band from the 1980 s who should have been massive but somehow werent. the other half of the korvids, gordy goudie, is also no stranger to the business having produced simple minds and playing bass and guitar for the primevals and echo and the bunnymen.

cd jewel case remastered by manuel gšttsching and released on his own label mg art. inventions for electric guitar is manuel gšttschings first solo album, recorded: july-august 1974. the album was written and performed entirely by gšttsching on electric guitar, hence the title. manuel played his guitar and used a 4 track teac a3340, revox a77 for echoes, wahwah pedal, volume pedal, schaller rotosound and hawaiian steel bar.
