bass clefs long player *reeling skullways* was met with a wave of critical acclaim when it arrived on punch drunk back in early summer 2012, demonstrating his vision, passion and skill for electronic music as an artist and producer. the record captured the attention of director steven mcinerney who has previously directed videos for circle traps and vessels as well as edited videos for bloc party, jon hopkins, tim exile, pvt, wagon christ, vladislav delay and many more, inspiring a collaboration between the two artists. now ready to be unveiled in all its techni-colour glory, punch drunk will be releasing a *stenaline metranil solar flare* ep to accompany the video featuring two new mixes from bass clef, & peverelist. bass clefs remix comes all guns blazing, drawing on the influence and legacy of his east london surroundings, delivering a grime laden, juggernaut proportioned reworking of the original, racheting up the pressure a bar every bar. the peverelist mix draws on his bristol influences with a system testing, psychedelic steppers version excursion.
a word from label boss chris farrell: this is the new one on idle hands, from us producer strategy. i first came across paul dickows work when he released a 12 inch called *world house* on his own community library label back in 2005. it blew me away. in the ensuing years my friend duncan george who promoted bristol’s best electronic music night - under_score tried on numerous ocasions to book him for a bristol date but it never quite hapened due to the usual things that go wrong in club land. in those years duncan kept in touch with paul and last year suggested to him that it might be worth sending some tracks to me, which he did at the start of 2013… add a peverelist remix and you have the tracks here before you, dub reggae informed house and psychedelic 2 step vibes.
surfacing earlier this year with last home (the much loved opener to futureboogies 10 year anniversary compilation), bristol based producer, drummer & dj luke harney aka typesun has had his head down for a while. working on a sound, pulling strands of musical experience together and letting it emerge in its own sweet time.

"late november sees the release of the new single by bass clef, promises, taken from his critically-acclaimed second album may the bridges i burn light the way). available only for a short time as a strictly-limited white label pressing, the singleÒs lead side is a beautiful remix by two heavyweight bass music pioneers ; appleblim (co-founder of skull disco, head of applepips) and peverelist (owner of legendary bristol label punch drunk). together they take promises into a wonderful six-minute stepper-haze somewhere between berlin and bristol, with a deeper-than-deep sub bass, anchored underneath dubbed-out piano and vocal, and a euphoric synth floating through it all. the original album version appears on the flipside, itself a euphorically elastic yet still hauntingly melancholic stand-out track that picked up the lionÒs share of radio and club play when Ámay the bridgesËÒ was first released late last year, most noteably from huw edwards (bbc r1) and tom robinson (bbc r6)."

after the success of apple pips 1st release from martyn, we are back with another treat for music heads.. our 2nd release comes from brendon moeller aka beat pharmacy brendon. on the a-side under his real name, brendon has created an 127bpm big room classic, submerging the original elements under layers of delay and echo, deep but grooving…on the flip he dons his beat pharmacy guise, slows things down to 120bpm & spaces things out in fine style, utilising the originals abstract riff and resetting it in a really exciting new house tempo context.. with releases coming on rekids, third ear, & deep space and remixes for echospace and others coming up it looks like a great year for brendon and pips is proud to present this exciting clash of styles…

this format is 3x12 inch vinyl & 2 x cd packaged together in a gatefold sleeve shrink wrapped. one of the reasons ascribed to dubsteps continuing success has been its ability to absorb influences from across the entire electronic spectrum, and no label has been more key to its continuing evolution than hessle audio. started in 2007 by david kennedy, ben thomson and kevin mcauley, the label quickly became a benchmark for quality, through releases from (the then) new artists like trg, untold and james blake, as well as a vehicle for their own productions. with 18 releases over the past three years, the imprint is renowned for its impeccable quality control.
theres a common thread that runs through all of brandt brauer fricks music. it is this: interesting things happen at the interface of machine and hand-made music. the berlin trios 2010 album, you make me real, fused techno and classical. the 2011 follow-up, mr machine, saw them go the whole classical-meets-club hog with a ten-piece ensemble playing dance music live. then, earlier this year, came miami, a darker, more song-based collection exploring the same man-machine ideas.
paul rose, aka scuba, the mastermind behind the incredibly well curated hotflush label, has been enlisted to create his own dj-kicks mix. featuring a healthy helping of exclusives from his camp including new music from addison groove & boddika, the mix treads the line between the uk bass music scene in which scuba came up, and the techno sounds dominant in his current home of berlin, creating a new sound in the process.
