this time mattia chosed a banging tune “time struggle” with the first new school version, classic heavy techno beat with saturated 303 sub melodies and a futuristic pad to complete this version. the old school version is more percussive acidic, no pad melodies, no compromises, just straight to the point for killing every dance floor.
in the b side there’s a perfect rework from a dutch techno master steve rachmad as sterac, more 909 clean beat rhythmic and minimal detroit infected. the last track “floating life” is a typical drum’n’bass spirit influence of mattia, 170 percussive beat with space pads typical of 90 jungle works in the uk.

since efficient space excavated andy rantzens mind-bending will i dream? the rest of the world has become better acquainted with the darker & dubbier side of one of australias rave superstars. were excited to present a selection of tracks from andys incredibly diverse oeuvre, 6 songs that sit somewhere between 80s digital reggae, 90s rave and the horizon of our accelerating future. lifting the veil speeds up snappy drum programming and a thundering bassline to breakneck speeds, pitting them against sombre chords and strings, perfectly capturing the reflective headspace of a night drive through babylon. cosmic vibrations harks back to the development of fully computerised rhythms emanating from jammy and tubbys waterhouse studios, by way of erskineville. in the same vein, bedtime for boo boo sees andy joined on the boards by sydney dub technician sheriff lindo, creating a dynamic digi-dub number that is sure to come alive on any soundsystem worth its weight - a heady showcase for two of australia’s finest reggae talents. flip the disc to find move it, the most concentrated dose of the jungle vibes that permeate the ep. rantzen channels the headrush sonics, breakneck drums and euphoria of d n bs heydey, nailing the red-eyed early am atmosphere of a sydney warehouse ca. 95 - and its just as likely to cap off the night of many a secret inner west location to come. magic lantern marries a dreamy synthesizer melody with a wicked, subby bassline. if there was a dancehall scene in ferngully, this wouldve been the soundtrack, with enough low end to really rattle the treetops. on closer dub generator, a slightly-creepy mechanized voice urges you to “leave your worries at the door come and join your friends upon the floor - an introduction to the dancefloor or an induction into some sinister cult? whatever the message, the dub chords and massive bassline lull you into the headspace where these words take hold. all songs recorded at masking tapes, liquid blue and 1/66 enmore rd, 1997-2000.

people plus are cz wang and joli b., signaling from a studio and or hut in some remote location. their debut ep consists of three trips into time in just as many styles. side a belongs to olympus mons, a song as big as the mountain its named from. snake charmer synth lines and vocal roars backed by the baddest rhythm section in a while wait for the solo! the b side holds work it out, with broken 4-off-the-floor drumz and revving echo effects. taking the coveted b1 spot is the always dancefloor smashing second cycle - a verified banger that opens up with ground shaking acidish filter bubbles, and closes somewhere way up above the clouds.

brassfoot makes his dba debut following a number of appearances at the dba presents parties. since breaking through with his apron ep on funkinevens world-leading label in 2015, brassfoot has turned heads with releases on uttu, paul du lac s bio rhythm, and his own seminal nca recordings. on the indentured servitude ep brassfoot showcases his own unique stepping house and techno flavour across six tracks, with time to meditate and reflect between the party-starting peak timers also included. blinds down, crouched over my desk, i switch on my machines. whatever the final result is, i wouldn t even bother unless i was having fun first. sometimes theres just one tiny portion of magic after a long recording session, but its always about the enjoyment first. its dark inside and it influences the mood of the music. it s also dark outside and it s obvious where that leaves its mark. the law of seven refers to the spiritualist philosopher gurdjieffs idea that the evolution of phenomena proceeds according to a universal seven-step process. clay tells us that while this idea did not strictly factor into the composition of these tracks, you could abstract some elements into the musical creation process. gurdjieff was quite a thinker, but also composed music so i thought the lines i was drawing carried some weight. in particular his notion that creation proceeds through increasing restrictions which i find to be incredibly relevant to my process at least. time limitations and performance settings particularly seem to allow me to be far more productive than just working freely with no solid end point in mind

life is complex and since the only way out is through, complexity demands to be embraced. as a label dedicated to bringing two unique minds together for each record, inkblots has always aimed at uniting kindred spirits by making their differences audible. with two contributions each by berlin’s irakli and stanislav tolkachev, the fourth instalment of haiku’s imprint makes no exception. instead, it might be its most exceptional offering yet. just like the principle of the rorschach test at the conceptual core of the label, the musical perspectives offered on inkblots 004 are minimalistic at their base but open up a pathway into two complex musical minds.

moka only has released an instrumental version of his latest lp, concert for one, via urbnet. concert for one instrumentals was released digitally on july 6th 2018 and as a limited edition vinyl on august 17th 2018. the self-produced record is packed with stand-alone characteristic beats, proving that the beats themselves have just as much story as the vocals.
“in this stage of my life there is much more reflection and contemplation, and i really feel that i was very open and unguarded on this album. as much as i love all the completed songs with the vocals, the beats on here hold enough detail to speak on their own.”

german producer and dj boys noize has announced the release of his much-anticipated cover version of adamski and seal’s 1990 rave classic ‘killer’ on 12&#8243, vinyl, via the vinyl factory and boysnoize records. featuring vocalist steven a. clark, the original 12&#8243, version is backed by an instrumental, both of which you can listen to below: as boys noize says: “being a ’90s kid i kind of grew up with this song which later became one of these tunes i’d play out at the end of the night. when i met steven and heard his voice for the first time i immediately thought of that track and the idea of doing a cover version was born. it was initially just for fun but it turned banging and lit the dance floors wherever i’d drop it.” adamski and seal’s original represented something of a breakthrough for both the producer and vocalist, spending four weeks at the top of the uk singles chart in the summer of 1990. speaking to journalist dave simpson in the guardian in 2013 seal explains the impact the song had on his career: “within a week, i went from being a relative nobody – this weird guy at raves, with silver bits in my hair – to a household name.” boys noize’ ‘killer’ is out now on 12&#8243, vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

simbad teams up with south african vocalist brian temba, whose previous release together come join in dropped on hi:rise back in 2011. in it’s original form take my hand is a sublime, forward-looking deep and soulful house track based around a filtering symphonic string loop, low-slung groove and heart-felt vocal. simbad has created a very london-centric vibe but with a french touch and detroit sensibilities, drawing from house heroes such as parrish and bradock, joining the dots and creating a fresh masterpiece in the process. next up we have jimpster on the remix, picking up the bpm’s slightly and loading up on his trademark deep stabs, sub-bass and spacious fx adding just enough dance-floor bump whilst leaving the vocal placed firmly at the core. on the flip side we have two smbd zulu edits which replace the more spartan groove of the original with some driving afro percussion. the first version keeps the vocal intact, the second version goes balls deep into dub territory, closing out this amazing release with an instrumental pushing the strings and hypnotic groove front and centre

although ultimately a comedy act, the cuban brothers are simultaneously serious musicians who have played with prince, been on the road with james brown and supported fatboy slim, chuck berry and de la soul to name but a few. 2018 will see them perform with a 12-piece band and a rotating roll-call of special guests on board to help them turn 20, including the average white band’s hamish stuart and the jungle brothers’ baby bam. ‘la familia’, released 24th august via sunday best, features a brand new cubans track, ‘i hate hate’, alongside such classics by roy ayers, bill withers, erykah badu, a tribe called quest, children of zeus, d’angelo and more. the cuban brothers clearly have an impeccable taste in music.

kicking off the first of two tracks by sondrio night train is smooth and subtle, this melodic low slung groover is made for those warm summer days. the deep tones give the low end just enough attitude to get those boots knocking. give it like is punchy and upbeat, sondrio gives you a dance floor weapon that ll have the punters up in arms. his signature low end notes drive this record with vocal stabs that will fit in any set. first up on b side ant larock drops another groovy house number better think with a mesmerising vocal laid on top of nothing but luscious chords. summer needs records like this, it s what memories are made of. ant also delivers pleasure that feels like a good dj tool perfect to break up those disco vocals with choppy chords, swinging drums and a cheeky vocal to match. house music at its finest.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

the spiritual and uplifting music of clifford white is highlighted with two of his most sought after songs, taken from his 1989 album the lifespring, and presented here in a special extended 12inch for the first time. starting in music production at just 15, white could be described as a protegee, however his take is that they were part of a music journey that continues today. with a centre found in electronic music and spirituality, his progress, from simple home use 4-track stereo to working in professional 16-tracks studios was swift, but matched by a deeper appreciation, greater confidence and wider palette of music styles

singer, songwriter and lifelong fan josé james honors the great bill withers with the september 28 release of “lean on me” (blue note), a loving tribute album that features 12 of the legendary singer and songwriter’s most undeniable and soulful songs in honor of his 80th birthday year. “lean on me” was produced by blue note president don was and recorded in capitol’s legendary studio b with a dream team band: pino palladino (bass), kris bowers (keys), brad allen williams (guitar), and nate smith (drums), along with special guests including vocalist lalah hathaway, saxophonist marcus strickland, and trumpeter takuya kuroda.

this ep combines the veteran talents of kniteforce label owner dj luna-c, with the debut release of kniteforce radio owner, the lowercase, and comes up with something quite unique. a love for heavy beats and inspired by some of the toughest old skool around, the ep delves into the underground in a big way, throwing caution to the wind and layering multiple breakbeats and aggressive stabs together to make a wall of hard sound, just like it was back in the day.

check b1 , played by marcel dettmann, amelie lens... the first of three samplers, comprised of selected tracks taken from spencer parker s new album, dance music out via his own label work them records. “there was no real concept behind the album, all i knew is that i wanted to do something honest. the tracks i make are the tracks i play in my sets and tracks i want people to dance to - that s where the title comes from.- - spencer parker. part one of the sampler opens with it was just a dream , a ghostly cauldron of glitches, bleeps and sound bites that locks you into a dazed state of hypnosis. next up, the oh hits with a taste of classic house, marrying emotive stabs, a tough kick and fizzing ride cymbals. on the b side, you re under my control now takes the sound industrial combining a kraftwerk-esque metronomic breath with rapid fire toms and a dynamic kick. absolutely raving closes out the first of parker s dance music samplers offering a rave leaning techno weapon that wouldn t be out of place in the hallowed grounds of berghain.

the poverty is violence stable are firmly established now as an essential conductor for rabid, rowdy and downright rasping mechanics from subterranean operators of all shapes and sizes. anonymous but reportedly veteran dutch producer xxx previously appeared on the label in 2016 with the wild noorder scannen 12-, and now returns with a bludgeoning new release. there s a consistent metal grind to the percussion on westzaan doelen, while the synth tones in between tend towards the jagged and abrasive, there s space and poise in the arrangement to lift this out of knuckleheaded noise. -don t go after her- reverberates with clamouring intensity while the beefy chassis of -just the two of you- shimmers under an acidic glaze - this is full-tilt deviant music executed with finesse to match the grime.

hailing from barcelona, the 12tree crew fire up their own in-house label hot piroski with a sterling opening round that s already garnering support from the likes of pete herbert, crazy p, psychemagik and more. the original track on the a side, -sugamomma,- is a well-rounded, full-fat dancefloor burner that should sit comfortably with fans of hot natured et al, given an extra boost with a sample of a young stevie wonder. on the flip, afrobeat classic n gwode by aleke kanonu gets a respectful edit that injects just the right amount of extra groove without diluting the loose, infectious soul of the original

(2lp+dl) lucy and rrose, now coming together as the lotus eaters, have established themselves separately as techno artists who are just as comfortable operating in the uncharted area of experimental music. running their own labels (stroboscopic artefacts and eaux, respectively), they have gained a cult following, both influencing and challenging the direction of techno.

dancing with fireflies from sanderson’s second long player urban mosaic gets the treatment courtesy louis haiman, minimal states and off land. louis once again shows his flare for soulful detroit influenced tech, putting a fwdthought spin on sanderson’s original arrangement. minimal states leaves an equally strong mark with his rich idm techno flavoured rendition. stasis recordings stalwart, off land, reworks just beyond into a gorgeous piece of chill out bliss.

recorded at the age of 14, in 1956, under the direction of her father, reverend c. l. franklin, these gospel recordings of a teenaged aretha franklin are not just a sign of the brilliance to come, they are a force unto themselves. at this time aretha was performing in her father’s church, new bethel, in detroit, and traveling with her father’s »gospel caravan« tours, performing with the likes of sam cooke & the soul stirrers. like so many of the soul and r&b stars of the 50s and 60s, aretha started out in the church and it was there that she made some of her most powerful and transcendental music.

since this year still hot are proud to welcome martin to their artist rooster. with his new -treat me bad- banger he finally makes his ep debut on still hot and proves his -all in- aspiration yet again. the title track -treat me bad- is an impressive demonstration of how striking electronic music can be when elaborate percussion and sound quality come together. massively powerful and just as smart -treat me bad- promises to have a salient impact on international dancefloors. with gorge we are glad to have another heavyweight on board who gave -treat me bad- a looser and more spherical vibe, however just as danceable as the original.

part 5 of 5 to be released over the coming couple of months. originally released on the phono label in 1995/96 the ‘parts’ series from matthew herbert are a much loved collection of house tracks that sound just as original and bold today as they did when they were first released. this series of 12”s were part of an early wave of exploratory dance music that paved the way for the deep house that still works its magic on dance-floors in 2018 some 25 years later. the mix of herbert’s playfulness alongside expertly grooving production and unusual sounds makes this unique collection of work. the odd few tracks aside this is the first time that these releases have ever been repressed. all newly remastered for this reissue series, the releases include stone cold club classics such as ‘deeper’, ‘take me back’, ‘resident’, ‘people that make the music’ and ‘see you on monday’.

next up in this ongoing split-ep series are two equally talented producers from different ends of the spectrum, both sharing their unique viewpoints on that special dreamspace of self-awareness and how the way there actually sounds like! following his explosive figure-ep just this recent summer, juxta position now reveals his more sublime side on these two technoid journeys. keeping it raw and beautiful, the analogue lover lets his synths engage in dialogue, floating through murky realms and simply getting lost in the groove. a new face for figure and definitely one to watch is pablo mateo. taking a likewise subtle yet distinctly more grounded approach, his tunes unfold slowly and each tell their entirely own storyline. tomo is an extraordinary specimen of how a track grows past its confines, into something genuinely touching and can eventually open up that space inside and what lies beyond!

livity sound continues to be one of the most innovative labels of its era with another essential release, this time in the form of a debut long player from forest drive west. this extended 2 x 12” and digital release, apparitions lands in october 2018 and is a fascinating further development of the producer s intricate fusions of techno, dub and jungle. * the acclaimed uk artist has released two eps on the label before now, as well as on its sister label dnuos ytivil and the likes of hidden hawaii, appian sound, and london drum & bass outlet rupture. little is known about the london based producer but in just a couple of years he has established his own unique blend of complex rhythms and tactile sound design, distilling a rich history of uk musical influences into fresh new forms. * this record continues in that tradition with a mix of sparse rhythm tracks that contrast heavy weight drum programming with rich and deft sound design. from menacing and mysterious, to cinematic and hypnotic, it makes for a compelling and immersive experience. apparitions is a landmark release for one of the uk s most exciting new producers.

as the timing appears to be right while summer just made it’s entrance it seemed only appropriate for the release of another single.
the idea behind the release was conceived when digging for records through paris while touring a couple of years ago during a conversation with a vinyl monger discussing 70’s pop-funk pakistani composers.
since the inspiration as well as the records sampled for both of the tracks were picked up from the “city of lights” it seemed only appropriate for mononome to finally collaborate with parisian label and long-time friends stillmuzik for a release.
“loralai” evolves around a feel-good uptempo groove emphasizing on the sample while “besima” is based mainly on mononome’s characteristic drum sounds, leaving an essence of psychedelia in the background.

well, this is different… fourth kind the self titled mini album on omniverse records. it’s hard to pinpoint a genre with records like this, produced by marc mac of 4hero and similar to some of the 4hero output, it defies genre and fits somewhere in-between many. the production is heavily reliant on synthesisers and vintage drum machines in places but is full of real life and organic movements, this is partly down to the signature drums played by luke parkhouse. the only other guest spot is filled by nu jazz funker pascal strauss aka luman child who plays bass guitar on “take me to your sky” which along with “afterglows” are the closest we get to dance tracks, in most parts a 70s fusion feel is present. the short interlude type tracks are just as important and i would go as far as to say vital to telling the story. moogs, arps and solina strings weave patterns throughout, all in all, across the 10 tracks the album is a journey of mood and emotions. 180g pressing.

helsinki’s we jazz records launches a new series of live recordings, the -we jazz live plates-, offering a closer look into the label’s live activities. the first installment of the series is a recording from berlin captured in october 2017. the six-tracker features black motor, bowman trio and jaska lukkarinen trio offering two potent slices of raw live jazz each. all of the compositions herein are previously unreleased or new arrangements.
the album -berlin 27.10.17- was recorded at club monarch located in berlin’s kottbusser tor during the second annual scope festival (a collaborative effort of berlin’s xjazz and we jazz). the dense atmosphere of the packed club is present in the recordings which showcase three major acts from the vibrant finnish scene. musically, the album ranges from the undeniable swing of jaska lukkarinen trio’s -roger- and bowman trio’s -the hillary step- to the scorching updated version of black motor’s -branches-, subtitled here as -berliner musik-.
