back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris’ final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn’t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden’s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to “robo dance”, dresden’s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so “lebensraum” unmistakably bears credit’s hallmarks. for his own music he’s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff – a lot of machine music.

mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that’s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

the kurl project started in the summer of 2014 where the primary concept was to sonically encompass the various influences of a twenty-year musical journey. the essence of kurls sound is mainly deep dub with hints of house groove that create a very unique sound environment connecting the listener to his lifestyle and movement. at the root of “sacred fire” is a very special love story. kurl started an emotional partnership, a genuine brotherhood with mj white, one of the pioneers of the soulful house music sound of the new york ’90s. marshall james white appeared on many hits in the nyc club scene including scandalous still irresistible just to name one. he tragically passed away in november 2015. mj white gives soul to sacred fire by writing the lyrics and interpreting it with so much passion that kurl was able to transform this track into an eternal love song. for kurl, mj white will remain the angel with a heavenly voice, and above all, a memory that will mark his internal and musical journey for the rest of his days in the words of mj white music has a huge heart that beats inside all of us.

night train serves both as a marvellous offering for james brown completists, and, on another level, as a brilliant on-record instrumental jukebox, full of booting saxes, guitar sounds that practically force you to get up and dance, and all propelled by a beat that’s spanned the years without ageing one little bit. so there you have it… a great album that proves what james brown and his friends were doing at the start of the ‘60s still sounds amazingly fresh.

over to the flip we start off with the title track, ‘lunar waves’ beginning with a tougher feel it hints at a hardware acid workout... but half way in roberto hits you with those dreamy pads again and just has us in his hands for that synth solo at the end! rounding off the ep perfectly is ‘when u come around’, a real ‘end of summer sitting down at the park with your mates’ kind of track...mmm...

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

bit027 is by 2 italians (who do it better as we already know anyways ...) mario masullo & glitches who deliver a pure particle riot on their >pimps ride free< ep. the kids (mario masullo from rome and glitches peepz from naples) without a doubt know what they are doing on this strong as it gets 3 track ep. the message is raw driving techno with an orchestral feel and an overall extra ordinary hypnotizing mood that really breaks away from the norm and will leave the dancer behind thirsty for more. while the a-side is more on the techy driving side of things, combining orchestral sounds for creating a very quite unusual vibe, b1 goes even deeper in hypnotizing your ears and fucking with your brains, real phsychotic dancefloor madness is the key here. b2 then heads back to the melodic side of the game, without forgetting to keep a strong eye on an intense dance-floor aspect here also. melodies so sweet and clean keep flirting with your ears on this one and its just all so well put together, that it manages to keep an minimal feel, eventhough its filled with so many ideas and great sound details, that it simply leaves us behind speechless and answers the question why our new pimps, sure ride for free at the same time ...

rothmans turn to debutant producer dawn again, who strides onto the football-focused label with a confident grip of otherworldly hardware jams. as is customary on the label, the mood takes on a laid back approach to four to the floor grooves, with -coloured pens- kicking off proceedings on a soaring bed of psyched-out house optimism. while -the italian- may be moodier in its demeanour, it s still just as mellow in its delivery, capitalising on alluring wave synths and reverb swells to great effect. -plain of jars- takes a trippier direction with its bubbling fx and bongo-powered beatdown, and then -lavender- switches things up with a rolling breakbeat undercarriage and plush lead lines on top.

remember when techno was all about creating the soundtrack for the future remember when there were no borders between styles or scenes remember when your favourite records were just white label vinyls, stamped with cryptic names this was exactly around the time edge of motion first made their mark on electronic music. even now, decades after they first burst on the scene, seminal tracks like set up 707 and albums like planet gong realities and ad hoc are still frequently played by techno s most revered selectors.

jump source is a collaborative effort between two pals, francis latreille & patrick holland (project pablo). it all started on a thursday afternoon in montreals mile end at francis home studio. over an mpc 2000xl, moog source, modular kit, and some junos, the two tweaked breaks and blended pads until things sat just right. guide to action fits 4 tracks, some of which include solos, vocals, and amusing fadeouts

chicago has always been a place that had talented musicians. it has been a hub for soul, funk, blues, and jazz for generations. the significance of the real sound of chicago release in disco compilation terms is that many chicago private disco labels never made it out of the city. just like chicago house music...

after the release of their collaborative breed ep at the end of last summer, nicole moudaber and skin (from skunk anansie) have unveiled their highly anticipated remix package featuring a long list of respected producers. carl craig, fur coat, jamie jones, jerome sydenham, paco osuna, pan-pot and scuba, are just some of the names which have turned their hand to the project. originally born out of nicole and skin s desire to fuse their rock and techno backgrounds, this is a true collaboration project with a difference. the pair have also recently been sharing the stage at high-profile slots such as space ibiza and coachella. the first track on the second part see s don t talk to me i m dancin remixed by hot creation boss jamie jones, which features a thudding heavy bassline, and zebra katz vocals sampled over the top. the second track on the a side see s french emotive techno specialist paul ritch turns in an atmospheric, driving remix of these walls are made of water . first up on the b side is pan-pot s take on these walls are made of water , adding the duo s characteristic stomping touch, as well as dramatic new synth melodies. this remix is another nicole favourite, often featured in her sets and her in the mood radio shows. rounding off the b side jerome sydenham remixes don t talk to me i m dancin feat. zfk and takes the track into uptempo driving territory.

acclaimed be as one boss shlomi aber makes a big step up here by putting out a trio of his killer techno cuts on the always excellent and forward looking nonplus label run by boddika. his xy play ep continues in his no nonsense, floor facing style and impresses once more. shlomi aber is an underground titan who runs his own musical empire in the form of his be as one label. he has made it into an essential outlet for no frills house and techno and his own output has found him in fine favour with djs and dancers alike. playing all over the world and also serving as an expert at the emerging ibiza festival on the white isle, here he comes correct once more. the title ep xy play is a brain frying affair with cantering drums and stern synths bringing a dark and intone vibe to the groove. way old story is just as heads down but less ominous, here the synths are a little spooky and add intrigue to his slick rubbery drums. last but not least related sources is a hunched over house track with dub in its kick drums and a desolate industrial feel in the landscapes above. atmospheric from the first to the last moment, this is another killer ep from shlomi aber.

ode to the sea represents a result of program cooperation and ode to soviet musical heritage with its jazz experiments, great space-age canvases, unique massive of library music and sentimental soundtracks. just imagine listening to a soviet jazz band being on ecstasy and youll get it.

transmitting out of birmingham and representing the cream of the sleek tech house crop, adam shelton s one records continues to forge valuable connections with the global scene while staying true to the label s roots. shaun reeves and tuccillo have been doing their thing for long enough to know how to throw down a surefooted deep groover, and that s just what you get with -smile-. meanwhile the mole does a sterling job of working some complex percussion into the bones of the track and creating a hypnotic, understated version that will appeal to the freakier end of the floor.

octave one announce new album love by machine a year after their impressive last album burn it down, detroit techno legends octave one are back with a nine track double ep that again shows they are masters of big hypnotic grooves. entitled love by machine, the albums name is a nod to the fact that the burden brothers are such revered masters of their hardware. both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward thinking performers in the game today. that is all the more impressive when you bear in mind they have been active since the 80s, most often releasing on their own 430 west label, which is where they appear again here. say lenny: weve been exploring the theme of connection with this project. how technology gives us the illusion that we are closer to each other more than ever. at some point humanity crossed a line where the devices that we created to bring us together are the same devices that are blocking us from organic experiences.

son dexter is a talented producer who released two fantastic eps on larry heard s alleviated in the early 2000 s. his influences are really extensive and diverse: deep house, funk, pop, hiphop, jazz, broken beat, rock, t-bone walker, black science orchestra, miles davis, lenny kravitz, al di meola, the intruders...and you can feel that in this eternity ep. when the canadian artist sent them this 4 tracks ep, the downbeat guys could not believe what they was hearing here. 4 colourful and delicate pearls full of nuances, strength and optimism which reminds us that its possible still to find purity and unconditional love for music. house? soul? pop? just music. nothing more, nothing less.

* after almost 20 years of making tracks with blaringly loud kicks, you tend to start producing with the other elements first to give yourself a break from the constant pounding of monitors at point blank range. following an analog filter shopping spree, i began working on a group of tracks where the low end was satisfied by the filtering, and realized these songs worked just fine without a bass drum. therefore this record is called “rareforms” since most of my other work consists of a kick drum and lots of loud effects. this record is dedicated to the brilliant synthesist and interpreter isao tomita, whose records always provide inspiration in the lab. also to master storyteller rod serling and his frequent collaborator bernard hermann, whose score for the hitchcock film vertigo i adapted through some midi processes and wavetable synthesis, then sent it through a 4-foot spring reverb.* - phil moffa

rotterdam based 25 places are back on dirt crew with a bang! since their love more release in 2015 the boys have been hard at work and have just released an ep for chez damier on his prescription records sub label balance. the bounce begins with party in the hills hosting a huge kick, loopy rhodes, squelching bass, ragga flavoured vocal and squeaky lead, its straight up good times right from the get go. an infectious groove on this one! closing title song heads into deep soaring territory, its forward house beat and pulsing synth lead intertwine with loose tropical percussion and a rhapsodic horn hook. on the flip we have laurence guy who does not really need an introduction anymore, the man has been all over the place since this years releases on cin cin, outplay and the imminent church where he dropped two big eps bamboo and kojak. here he takes on the soulful deep chicago house of 25 places and turns it into a 90s breakbeat acid galore of ecstasy tingled uk house. 25 places wrap up the rave session with backyard stories, a raw and bouncing, bass face inducing jam. uplifting and dirty in one stroke, its thumping kick and feverous melodies make it impossible not to move.
