randomer is back at once again for l.i.e.s. and again delivers the goods. taking the entire a-side is smoking, and it does exactly that as it s a full on club fueled rugged electro cut that does the job straight up and down. velvet opens the b-side on a different note building huge tension with its buried rave chords waiting just for the right moment for the drums to drop, a proper club beast if used at the right time. rye closes it out taking it in the other direction with tribal drums and voices in tow driving it home. massive!

medical records in collaboration with our friends at crispy nuggets blog are happy to reissue a very obscure australian gem from the 1980s. ironing music were a three piece band from brisbane. they originally formed in 1984 as a result of their collective love for new order, human league and eventually jean michel jarre and cabaret voltaire. comprised of bass and electic guitar, yamaha dx-7, melodica and an 808, they recorded a 12- single as their sole outpt in 1985 in a limited run of 250 copies (obviously excruciatingly rare now!). it was recorded in their bedroom studio with at teac 4 track. the video clip for the -hit- shopping bag women was played on several national and local television music shows. they also recorded demos in hopes of landing a lp deal which unfortunately didn t attract any takers at the time. they actually only played 3 gigs and were forced to disband after one of their members fell ill in 1986. the lp presented here included the original 4 track single as well as hand picked demos which nicely congeal to form a well rounded lp documenting the band s brief existence. they can best be described as lo-fi synth pop with an emphasis on excellent pop songs and interesting synth/instrument arrangements. the first track shopping bag women is infectiously catchy and just screams to be worn out in the club. fans of early to mid 80s synth pop and new romantic will fall in love. the tracks have been lovingly remastered by martin bowes at the cage, london. features original reproduction of the front cover painting. presented in a limited edition on 180gram vinyl.

ruff stuff returns to their own label and are proud to announce a new 4 track ep. untitled04 is the result of different experiments on the sound and introduces a novelty for the label: the first official remix by the lovely italian duo black loops. “never ending” opens the a side with its raw groove, a hypnotic pad warming everything up and a vocal that will drive the listeners to unexplored territories. “m.a.m.t.” showcases the most familiar sound of ruff stuff: warm techno stabs on a straight groove filled with a single vocal and a synthetic arpeggio in the second part. on the b side the sound changes its shape with “flying”: a mixture of rough grooves, disco samples, female vocals and a touch of acid. the remix by black loops brings the track back to very house territories chopping the original samples more and filling them with a solid beat and shining hats. just put the needle on, push play and dance! vinyl only, limited copies.

nyako is our 7th vinyl release here at otc and it s a big one. south african producer behr created nyako together with makadem during a santuri safari session at sondeka festival in kenya. the e.p is 4 cuts that build in brilliance from the original which has extremely broad appeal. indian producer daisho delivers a straight ahead 4 x 4 house groover, south-london production duo modified man swing their analogue machines into action for a heady synth adventure, which is just a bit broken. berlin-based duo of dirk leyers and dj nomad (hans reuschl) are the ideal pairing to merge technology and tradition together as africaine808 bring up the rear with a balearic sensation to round off the ep. makadem is a talented musician and vibrant performing artist from kenya. he s a figurehead of the benga scene in nairobi. his stage presence and powerful vocal delivery, had him likened to the legendary fela kuti. makadem innovates by bringing traditional african instrumentation, story telling and contemporary production methods together.

„umwelt’s 12inch “… city” from 1999 was one of the most impressive 12inches i had at that time and i played the shit out of it. it was dark and very emotional, it was abstract but also driving at the same time. this was 1999 though, before discogs and before facebook and all the other platforms people have now to do research on artists they like and follow their work. at that time it was the record shop – and that was it. nobody knew this guy though, and i didn’t get my hands on any of the following releases, so in my world there was no follow-up to this record ever and i thought it would remain a one-off gem in my record box. until by some coincident i recently discovered he was still around and had actually released numerous releases in the meantime. i was very excited and contacted him straight away and ended up booking him for krake festival in the same year. undoubtedly his set was one of the best of the whole festival! he took the roof off the place with his mix of raw electro, industrial and rave and everybody was talking about it afterwards, saying it was the highlight of the festival! talking to him i learnt, that most of the tracks he played were his own, mostly unreleased. he produces without computers, all his tracks are single takes, there is no editing, no mixing afterwards, he only has a stereo track recording which is what it is. he owns a cutting machine which he uses to cut dubplates from his tracks, which he then plays out during his sets. this whole information about this very unique artistic approach just killed it for me, and since working with him was so nice as well, i asked him for a demo for killekill and its labels and was hoping for tracks i could make a great 12&#8243,, of. i got 14 tracks and after weeks of trying to pick the best, i finally realized i held one of the best electro albums ever in my hand – banging beats and the balls to go big and epic, subtle melodies, drama, funk – this album has got it all, and what’s most important, the music on it is the exact opposite of so much other music nowadays: it is emotional, it tells a story, it is easily recognizable and it is not interchangeable. it’s just umwelt.“ nico deuster

the second release from producer eomac’s new dublin-based label eotrax comes from nomadic irish producer lair. this is an exciting step for the label, moving away from the dancefloor into more diverse, eclectic territory. lair is a producer far from the norm, especially for those releasing on an electronic music label. she classifies herself as a composer, producer, vocalist, artist, sound-healer and yoga teacher. with a diverse background that includes singing classical and traditional material shes expanded her artistic approach into a diverse web-like multi-disciplinarian approach in keeping with her nomadic life. currently she creates electronic music, contemporary classical music and healing music under a variety of alias including laura kilty and luminousounds (for healing music). she is also in the duo noeverything with eomac. in her words my lair music is how i see the world - this one and others channeled - expressed through layers of my vocals which i shape electronically. the music has elements of mysticism, sacred geometry, energy, sound with intention and just sounds i love formed to make music i love. i see music as i create it. i work with lots of layers - for me its like creating an aural representation of the image i see. these layers of sound can be found in her debut self-titled ep in the deep, ritualistic drones of invoke and meld on the a-side, and the more concise rhythmical patterns of searching in circles on the flip.

alexx a-game makes his return to swing ting after last year’s ‘a-game everyday’ & ‘gangsters’ with the soulfully poignant ‘braver’. the 7” is the 1st physical drop on fact magazine’s label of 2016, following well-received equiknoxx & madd again! releases in 2017. in 2015 swing ting’s samrai & platt received a tune from alexx’s manager, ‘braver’ asking if they’d be able to contribute to the production on the track. listening to the stems, it became apparent how amazing alexx’s vocal delivery sounded stripped to just the rhodes & bassline played by frequent a-game collaborator & fellow jamaican vern hill. after adding effects and flourishes the crew began playing the ‘smooth edit’ on swing ting radio shows and at dj sets around the globe.

chicagoan artist vincent floyd has been releasing music for 27 years now. with stand-out records for the legendary dance mania and some more recent outings through amsterdam connaisseurs rush hour recordings, vincent floyd crafted a 4-track package of original cuts, which will be released as the seventh instalment in the pulp series. the vigorous sounds of “circles (dub)” consist out of loose percussion, piercing synth work and a snappy vocal that cuts through at just the right moments. in the classic style of a sizable amount of dance records throughout the earlier days of dancefloor-music, an instrumental version of “circles” is including on the a2 position. “skewed reality” is an extravert piece of music that revolves around an emotive synth lead and nicely timed drums with a very human feel to them. the soothing pads form the back bone of this journey through exalted melodies. “morning storm” serves as the pulp07 grand finale. in this cut vincent again showcases his ability to mould many melodic elements into a cohesive sounding piece of music. “morning storm” is a bright piece of work with delicate melodies and beautiful playful drum patterns.

damon yates, aka martianman, set up 4th planet recordings to release music by people which includes some of his more favorite artists. artist that simply need to have more music released. it involves the same basic idea that he had when starting up the martianman volumes which is to release original, high quality jungle with a completely underground feel. not only the bass and drums are important for the vibes but the whole feel of the music is in play. it can be completely futuristic sounding or full of old school vibes though out. however it’s served up just know that it is underground.

looky looky is the new project from jeffrey sfire and ian clark, both residing in detroit, michigan. the pair met in the late 90s when ian was performing as one half of le car with adam miller of adult. ian also recorded under the moniker perspects, and released on clone, ersatz audio and interdimensional transmissions. jeffrey has released a series of singles and remix eps with samuel long as sfire on cocktail d amore music and ultramajic.

dj raw sugar is a native of berlin, but has done a 6 year stint in new zealand and now resides in perth. his productions are deep and raw house beats mixed with jazz, boogie, disco, funk and soul. over the years he has put out music via other people s labels like gazeebo international, midnight riot and ism, but is now taking matters into his own hands via love sexy records - a label he has just started. the debut release kicks off with a piece from the man himself! it s a sweet and sultry slice of disco. inkswel, also australian based, takes up remix duty taking the track in a more club-ready direction. slow goodness all over!

it s all going on for cervo at the moment. having just launched the banana hill label with an excellent record from majid bekkas (that he also did an edit for), the uk-based producer has now been snapped up by marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell label to drop more of his worldly edit science. on rhythm leads the charge with confidence on the a-side, using a bubbling, afro-infused disco-funk source and making it lean and mean for the floor. there s a distinctly nigerian lilt to the guitars that cluck away through dancing dream, but it s accompanied by bright chiming chords and a solid beat that will stand up to any contemporary house jam. banku is even more explicitly modern, although still layered up with gorgeous vocals and percussion from africa

not an animal records was formed in 2015 out of the ashes of the london-based party bad passion, and has thus far welcomed the likes of man power, ess o ess and eric duncan to release on the label. now they turn to james hadfield, a relatively new producer previously spotted on to rack & ruin and me me me. on this four-tracker he deals in brooding synthwave tones mixed with classic jack track rhythms. literate is just the kind of taut, sinister club creeper we can t get enough of, while buried answers takes a skippier but no less moody approach. on the remix front, jamie blanco takes the prize, turning buried answers- into a bombastic slice of driving synth pop.

tone depth has been making music for many years but he doesnt seem to get older...... he just gets better and better. this is his 2nd release on noir music and i can assure you there’s more to come in the near future. “escape” contains 3 instrumental and very intense tracks. they are all cleverly build for the underground floors. they each have their own special signature and carry that powerful tone depth production level. each track on this ep immediatley made me “escape” into the music, took me on a journey and captivated my attention throughout the running minutes of each piece. i have been playing these tracks since the day i received them track by track and they really do grow on you (play for play) like great music always tend to do.

hydergine is back on knotweed. he delivers his immediately recognisable style of dub techno, just a bit harder and faster than his usual self. the tracks are full of dreamy textures, ethereal synths, intricate drum-programming and bird-like sounds. this record oozes positive vibrations and will for sure make you fly during the summer!

one of the sweetest and most idiosyncratic voices in reggae, tenor singer cornell campbell also has one of the longest-running careers of any jamaican recording artist. taken under studio one founder clement sir coxsone dodd’s wing at a very young age, cornell cut his first recordings in 1956, long before ska was even established. he remained based at studio one for many years (working as a label printer as well as a recording artist), and also voiced sides for king edwards in the ska years. he then briefly joined the sensations in rock steady and recorded at treasure isle, before moving back to studio one as leader of the eternals when reggae arrived, cutting huge hits there such as stars and queen of the mistrel, and giving early coaching to slim smith, jacob miller and bassist robbie shakespeare. joining forces with ace producer bunny striker lee in the mid-1970s brought a dramatic new surge in popularity that greatly boosted his profile overseas. the ropin lp was issued on third worlds justice subsidiary in 1980 a sub label set up to handle strikers product in the uk (though hits like mash you down and the title track had been handled in jamaica by joe gibbs). one of the albums outstanding moments is bandulu, an anti-rude boy epic voiced on the late night blues rhythm, while opening cover, just my imagination, has an uncredited toasting portion from errol scorcher.
