THE LEGACY OF CAIN / I SAW MY GRAVE (GOLDEN MARBLED VINYL + MP3)
coloured 12" Vinyl NL17.08.18
if the outside agency’s new release on genosha 175 was to be summarized with a few keywords, they would most likely be “twisted” and “evil”. on an ever ongoing crusade to bring high-quality tracks to a tainted genre, another word to describe this release could be “uncompromising”. comes on black & gold mixed vinyl with download code included.
cain is back with a bang this summer! the smile inducing eshu probably one of the biggest tracks he s made to date and one we ve sat on for too long now. as always, the other two tracks are equally as varied and great phoenix makes for a great opener and hoji is a current lena willikens hit.
becoming something of a label mainstay, cain returns to highlife! his fourth release sirin is a big yin! it s been a secret weapon round these parts for a while now and we re finally pleased to be sharing it with you alongside the kicking kaldi and tumbi , which serves as a summer sweetener. with early support from the likes of ben ufo, jackmaster and damian lazarus (who recently opened his sonar set with tumbi) we anticipate it being a big release throughout the festival season.
we follow up our debut release by stl with a dancefloor oriented ep by scotsman cain. for those new to cain, a regular on highlife records (a sub-label of huntleys & palmers), you have been missing out. he’s known for fusing his love of traditional music from around the world with infectiously rhythmic drum pattern writing, stand-out melodies and futuristic bass work. and this release is no different. seeing as we are a record label based in the middle east, cain jumped on the opportunity to dig for arabic influenced drums and rhythms to build the ep around. the results are dope! and just in time for the summer season.
mister ekkohaus brings his groove to tabla. after his remix work for tabla 002 the berlin based greek producer returns to tabla with two raw and strong tunes somewhere in between dub techno and stripped down house. early dub label honcho loquace from paris completes this vinyl package with an extraordinary tech house remix.
following his nagan belter and fresh from his recent appearance on the boiler room, cain returns to india with two superb rhythmic releases on highlife. early support from ben ufo, optimo, midland, pearson sound, studio barnhus, honey soundsystem, cowboy rhythmbox, etc.

here comes another heavyweight double-sider with probably the two rawest and nastiest deep-funk cuts ever recorded in detroit, michigan. despite the fact that both tunes have been bootlegged on several compilation albums during the last years, we at tramp decided to go for this official re-issue. save yourself some money and get this high quality re-issue which even comes with the original label artwork.
introducing previous highlife guest, cain for his first vinyl release. weve been asked about nagan joyously infectious vocals all summer since its debut on our rinse show and are excited to finally share it along with highlife exclusive, vatula. think daphni via delhi and youll be in a similar ballpark.
a little harder then you are probanly used to from the fkzltd camp but still one hell of a release. right in the middle between soaring and hard and atmospheric this 030 definitely covers all sides of dnb. silverfox is an excellent dancefloor cut!
you know the score by now, bouncing jungle party vibes are the order of the day as another jungle cakes release comes rolling out of the studio and onto a dance floor near you. cain.1 & wakcutt are first up on this single with >night nurse<, jam packed with infectious melodies and crisp breakbeats you know this is going to be irresistible before its even dropped. booming bass and infamous reggae vocals hit all the right notes and the partys barely even got started. >bad duppy walk< will definitely see you through to the end though, as slynx takes a classic vocal and runs it over a jungle-tastic backbone flecked with electro-house influenced bass touches that will undoubtedly get the crowd jumping. this is pure jungle fun once again from the jungle cakes collective.
surkin and bobmo are high powered boys. what do you get when you pair up two of the most hotly tipped young dance producers in the game? straight up ghetto house, with a healthy disregard for good taste and lofty ideals. its here and now music, fast and furious tracks!!
love circle returns for a second release, digging deep into the misty past of golden era disco and finding rare gold for the reissue market to rejoice at. this time it s the work of barry blue and two projects he produced in the early 80s, lovingly re-edited for maximum dancefloor pleasure by velvet season & the hearts of gold (aka gerry rooney and joel martin). first up is surefire party starter breakin in by javaroo, and on the flip its low down seduction workout love the way you love me by marti cane getting a fresh airing for all vintage-minded dancers and djs.
benny rodrigues is arguably one of the biggest djs on the dutch scene, performing at some of the worlds biggest events from awakenings & mysterland to underground spots such as berghain & dekmantel. as the phrase goes “get yourself a man that can do both”. cocaine speaking is a dutch acid anthem in two parts, complete with a alden tyrell remix!
HIGHLIFE 011 (INC. MARK E & AFRICAINE 808 REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK04.11.16
having been shortlisted for the scottish album of the year, award, we follow up theory of flo with some stellar remixes from friends and associates.. next up in the series, we ve employed the services of our berlin buddies, africaine 808 and a long time favourite producer of ours, mark e, who have each delivered a blinder. auntie flo himself tops things off with a brand new version of the album opener primed for the dancefloor
the best records have a story, they form part of a journey, different characters emerge and the good music always rises to the fore. in the case of the latest record from scottish producer jack eye jones and the legendary junior sanchez this is certainly true. cocaine blues is a step into the unknown in some respects but in another way, it s a record that seems to fit in perfectly with todays electronic music landscape.
on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.
ahead of their highly anticipated debut lp due on golf channel this fall, the berlin duo drop this little taster. the heavy, percussion driven analogue sound that is their trademark comes in two tight packages. the title track is all snaky rhythms and squelchy riffing and comes complete with exactly the kind of dense, break heavy remix that we would expect from compatriot, and top buddy of the band, wolf muller. flipside revanche is a sunnier affair, deft touches on the acoustic guitar and lighter percussion, but no less the party starter because of it. golf channel every time !
fanciful limited is back with his second release. a split ep from mandat and rocco caine. mandat comes out with their debut release on fanciful. wholetrain 5.4 is a very rhythmic and powerful track characterized by his vigorous hi hats. with hybrid, rocco caine creates a dark and energetically atmosphere but always with the focus on the dance floor. mastered by green light audio.
from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
kloof street diggin sees wd label honcho sleazy mcqueen team up with longtime dj cohort, romano arcaini for three super-sized re- edits of the highest order. each of these three songs are based around samples sourced during smq s recent tour stops in south africa. peace, love + harmony, the perfect track to segue between house and disco! flute and synthesizer call and response building to an unexpected vocal explosion.
on the flip, disco de moda, named after the johannesburg party with a decidedly digital disco bent, arps and chugs to robotic climax. finally, tidings are closed with the organic and synthetic, tied together in private life, a blend of flute and synth undulating to a psychedelic crescendo.
bucharests own khidja have been an active part in the local nightclub scene over the past years. after first appearing as co-compilers of the romanian jazz lp for sonar kollektiv, it was finally a remix for baris k on emotional especial in late 2013 which put the duo on the want list of many tasteful djs around the world. the time was just perfect to appear with oriental soundscapes having been the most sought-after spice in dance music during that summer period
berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!
vulkandance started as a party for african dance music in berlin in 2010. the amazing feedback and success of the party led nomad to turn it into a series of events and into a concept (including theme based decoration and sometimes catering) that travelled and hosted some of the cream of afro and global funk/disco djs, including legends such as beppe loda
poisson chat musique (pcm) is a new berlin based record label which focuses on the deep sides of electronic music. the first release, une nuit américaine (pcm01), is a six-tracks ep (which includes two interludes and an ambient track) from label owner and newcomer poisson chat. in a mental theatre, you are invited to watch on the screen underwater love stories and woody nightshade memories, from nocturnal melancholy to desert landscapes. its up to you to take the road and feel these sensations during some special late-night reveries. mastered by lupo at dubplates & mastering
cronlog, new label by rocco caine starts straight away with two very special tracks somehow dark and deep but definitely groovy and, of course, in the best deep- and dubtechno style and thats not all, another extremely interesting track to come is a dub rework from sawf (perc trax). almost a dj tool for its functionality and remarkable elements, this track shouldnt be missing in any techno set!
danish duo laid back made a most surprising comeback to the clubs in 2010 with >cocaine cool<. not that they had ever been really forgotten: their electro pop classic >white horse< remained a sure shot in clubs for the thirty years after its release 30 years back and a constant inspiration to boatload of diverse artists from techno to hip-hop. >cocaine cool< was recorded at the same session but the ironic vocals ridiculing label executives blowing up their frail ego with the chemical substance were deemed to risquee at that time, so the recording collected dust in some box until last year. bostons >soul clap< another duo hailed as one of the hotest things in clubland known for their eclectic funk-rooted taste. they opt for a cool sparser arrangement leaving out the “white horse -like chords. a loose, dry electro funk beat, hpynotic one-note synth, few dub effects and additional vocoder vocals do the trick bravorously. besides an instrumental version theres also a harder jacking dub take sounding like early chicago house edits. and while the boys are add it they also re-edited another huge one from laid back: >baker man< that managed the unlikely balancing act of not only hitting it bigtime in the charts but also in the emerging balearic scene. this 12 inch is cool in every which way!
the sensational comeback and follow up to >white horse<. recorded in the same session, remastered by the band to full glory and released worldwide exclusively in a cooperation by laid back and yours truly
THATS WHAT IT IS (PATRICK KUNKEL / ROCCO CAINE RMXS)
12" Vinyl D29.10.10
austrian musican martin brunner aka madney moon scores with two refreshing tracks. with a wonderful catchy melody, the first track >is it hot< sounds quite imposing. patrick kunkel (coccon recordings) does a very nice remix and straightens the framework. the second original mix >is it what< is a powerful contemporary techno track with a dark concise vocal. its therefore no wonder that rocco caine does his typical deep interpretation of that track. the remix sounds monstrous and gives your spoilt feet all they want and love on the techfloor.
