MUSIC WILL SAVE THE DAY (INCL. AUNTIE FLO & CHRISTOPHE REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK19.09.17
austin ato is the latest project from colin bailey, the multi talented producer from oban in scotland who has been the man behind the drums of death moniker since 2008, and has also recorded under the frankie dreams and coba aliases. with forthcoming material also due on phonica white, ato lands on futureboogie with the massive feel good vibes of music will save the day, backed with two superb remixes from auntie flo and christophe. featured here are two original mixes of music will save the day. the dub mix the is classic house music jam, packed full of energizing musical flourishes, from the balearic tinges of the sequenced mallet riff, whimsical pads and booming bassline to the searing crowd chant and the joyous piano motif. ato displays some serious musical chops here, which are further enhanced on the vocal mix with the addition of a bi-lingual vocal hook that will surely act as a call to arms on any discerning dancefloor. on the auntie flos hidden garden remix, the huntleys & palmers mainstay strips things right back for a beatless excursion, letting the percussive elements drive the forward motion whilst the melodies and thick synth pads wash over like crashing waves, a great reinterpretation by brian dsouza aka auntie flo. futureboogies very own christophe provides the second remix, tweaking an acid riff over a heavy, old school drumbeat and teasing in the musical elements, providing a tougher and more jackin take on the original mix, whilst keeping faithful to the original vibe.
in the final chapter of the theory of flo story, we ve enlisted the services of the mighty dj sotofett to remix the closing track for mihaly , and what a job he s done! dark, weird and percussive -just how we like it. we also include brand new versions featuring occasional live drummer, laurie pitt and a reprise with poppy ackroyd. credits remixed & reproduced by dj sotofett at wania 1. guitar solo by jeks. synthesizers, percussion & programming by dj sotofett percussion & violin by laurie pitt and poppy ackroyd
next up in the series of remixes for auntie flos acclaimed theory of flo lp, we ve employed the services of our buddies from stockholm, london and russia in the form of kornél kovács, throwing shade and lipelis respectively. each of them have done an amazing job turning each track into something very special, as we re sure youll agree.. released on vinyl courtesy of highlife x huntleys + palmers in march 2017.

having been recently shortlisted for the scottish album of the year award, we follow up theory of flo with some stellar remixes from friends and associates. first up highlife label mates, mehmet aslan and cain deliver the goods on cape malay prayer and hewal3 - as to be expected. what wasn t planned was this sublime rework by the revenge. we felt so precious about waiting for a (woman) - convinced that the original was too good to be tampered with - until an unexpected turn of events brought our fellow glaswegian (and say nominee) to the controls, resulting in a sophisticated rework for the dancefloor - who better really when you think about it?! released on vinyl courtesy of highlife x h+p this summer. more remixes on the way..
GOOD NIGHT (FEAT. REMIXES FROM AUNTIE FLO & TOOLI)
12" Vinyl UK26.07.16
better known as kemback, geoff wright is a bristol based producer, selector, composer, violinist, teacher, and waiter whose music is rooted in house and techno but often treads into the weird and wonderful worlds of jazz, soul, folk, and blues. while his gritty drums and shuffling grooves bear the hallmark of the city he now calls home, the melodic sensibility of his emotive strings and distant glimmering synths harks back to the tree-lined footpaths of the tiny scottish village from which he takes his name. his debut release in 2014, on bristol mainstay futureboogie, received widespread support from djs as diverse as skream, mosca, and nemone. more recently his effort as part of alfresco disco s acclaimed maximum joy series, titled awaken , has been likened to the music of artists including floating points and leon vynehall. good night & for you today, the two tracks on kemback s omena debut, showcase a high level of production skill. to complete the package the always excellent auntie flo (aka brian d souza) & omena label boss tooli take turns in remixing good night.
YOUTH STAND UP! REMIXES (JD TWITCH, MIDLAND, AUNTIE FLO AND GENERAL LUDD REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK21.07.16
four remixes from the youth stand up! album that was released on autonomous africa late in 2015 by jd twitch, midland, auntie flo and general ludd. youth stand up! is a collaborative recording project between glasgos green door studio, lebeha drumming center in hopkins, belize, and the tafi cultural institute based in tafi atome, ghana. all proceeds will go to tafi cultural institute, tafi atome, ghana and lebeha drumming center, hopkins, belize.
the highlife world series is a collaborative series of releases by uk-based brian d’souza aka auntie flo and esa williams. the first three parts are to be released in quick succession in early 2015, beginning with cuba, followed by kenya and finishing with uganda. each release features original songs produced in collaboration with local musicians. all proceeds from each release will be sent back to the respective countries in order to fund further musical production costs in years to come. we will also be seeking various ways to distribute the music in each country so the music is freely available for the musicians to use at home.
esa returns with the final instalment for this highlife world series which included previous releases cuba and kenya. having been invited to attend the east africa music conference doadoa in jinja, uganda back in 2014 and again in 2015, esa shares the sounds of a new breed of talent and ideas emerging from east africa and beyond, showcases music not only from uganda but artist from burundi, rwanda, kenya and south africa who all attended the conference.
we hope you will permit us the indulgence of deviating slightly from our globe trotting explorations on this release as we pay homage to the sun. highlife on holiday, if you will. stepping away from the edits, auntie flo delivers a new original track. sun ritual ii takes things up a notch from its earlier counterpart (released on kompakt), banging dare-we-say-it berghain techno gives way to warm synth-laden euphoria. on the flip, miajica, one third of alma negra who you may recall from highlife2. here he serves up a delightfully familiar summer treat, the original being an end of the night, highlife highlight, particularly at our annual tribute to the sun event. we are sure you will agree that both sides are rock solid and primed for the summer!
this is the third autonomous africa ep, the idea being that one ep is released each year and all proceeds are donated to a charity in africa. last years second volume, along with a fundraising night in glasgow and another in london raised several thousand pounds for the mtandika mission in tanzania (more info on that below).
introducing the highlife edits from h&p affiliated artists after the party of the same name. as the title suggests, both tracks by resident dj auntie flo are rooted in african music and designed to set dancefloors alight.
many of the problems africa faces are a result of outside interference by other countries, and as the 21st century progresses we will see the continued pillage of african resources to feed the global capitalist machine on an unprecedented scale.
having brought 2011 to a close with two sell out releases (oh my days & highlife) under his belt, a growing fan base which counts ricardo villalobos, andrew weatherall, gilles peterson, caribou and jackmaster amongst its members. lining up residencies at the legendary plastic people in london, glasgows sub club and festival appearances this summer, auntie flo has been on a roll!it now gives us great pleasure in presenting the future rhythm machine.

auntie flo drops his debut release on london / glasgow club promoters huntleys & palmers new imprint.
hailing from goa by way of glasgow, auntie flos influences are far flung, referencing, villalobos, four tet and caribou, to fela kuti, william onyeabor, and kwaito, alongside kode 9s hyperdub, chicago house from fast eddie and tyree cooper and more recently matias aguayos comeme imprint and some of the current movers and shakers from the uk scene.
turbo recordings is proud to present a release a full year in the making. a&rÆd by turbo elder thomas von party, gender embodies the adventurous spirit of his own multi culti label, and marks a return to the kind of mega remix pack we used to make when the world was young and an alternate dub rework was all you needed to get by. germanys skinnerbox sets the template with a high-speed jungle rave banger, which is an accurate enough description but not something we would expect you to ever repeat out loud. the 12-inch also features versions by swedish nice guy axel boman, who missed the submission deadline by 13 minutes but still managed to turn in a 12-minute epic jam, and glasgows auntie flo, who somehow harnessed the siren song of the iphone with a marimba-heavy mix.
produced in london but recorded in ghana, the >friday night< ep by the busy twist transcends borders with its energetic and feel-good vibes, effortlessly mixing influences from the london bass scene and ghanaian highlife and hip-life. released on 12 inch vinyl, the physical release comes with a bonus 12 inch featuring the busy twists debut >floor excitement ep< release. code for free mp3 download included

when we signed bosq s tumbala featuring puerto rican legend tempo alomar on vocals last year we knew that it was a multi-cultural masterpiece. we also knew that giving it a boost for the club could take it to a whole other stratosphere. so we enlisted another one of our favorite multi culti producers, auntie flo to take it for a spin, and boy did he turn out a club jam!
italian producer my dry wet mess, aka giovanni civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since its exciting fledgling years. though his father is the bass player for ennio morricones orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous italian records, from a young age gio was drawn towards hip hop. at the age of 14 his father gave him a sampler and an atari, his beatmaking experiments grew boundless. having released albums on daedleus magical properties imprint and flying lotus brainfeeder, it is a great pleasure for fine grains to present his debut vinyl release – the *laptop lapdance ep*. it comes equipped with remixes from ikonika, dam mantle & auntie flo.

konkoma remixed sees three of konkomas choicest album cuts remixed and reworked by three of the most exciting synth laden afro-electro producers around today. with the original versions rooted in 1970s ghana, konkoma remixed adds modern edge to their rich blend of afro-funk, jazz, soul and traditional african rhythms. their debut album, released earlier this year through soundway records, won plaudits for its sophisticated mix of afrocentric music and soulful melodies.
the 12 inch vinyl comes with a free mp3 of the release.
the second single to come from miaoux miaouxs acclaimed >light of the north< album, the limited >autopilot< e.p brings us the original track backed with a heavy-duty line-up remixing select tracks from the album. the original title-track is a glittering synth-fuelled hymn to heartbreak, which incorporates elements of bass and hip-hop, while recalling the stylistic flourishes of boards of canada. reworking >hey sound!<, glasgows very own auntie flo and esa bring their exotic stomp to the table: a percussive journey soaked in dubwise holy water. tom furses remix of >stop the clocks< is almost like a reigned-in, beat driven version of john elliots outer space project, thick cosmic ritual elixir bubbling over the sides. already having made his name on skreams disfigured dubz, echo park takes on >autopilot<, turning the original into a cast-iron lesson in militant rhythm. echo parks real talent however lies with integrating elements of the original seamlessly with his own punishing sound palette.
first up is tabou for the people by sofrito specials featuring l barrabas which twitch edited for his dj sets a couple of years back. the lovely people at sofrito kindly gave permission for it to be included on this release. its a relentlessly driving slab of 4/4 afro funk with horn explosions. next up is the 10th and final track in twitchs cumbia series. the first 8 were released on japans lets get lost label and the missing number 9 is being saved for a future release. colombias cumbia was born out of african influences. this track is based around a sample from colombian cumbia legend andres landero and is an attempt to fuse traditional cumbia sounds with up to date production styles. the end result is a slow motion hypnotic cumbia retaining the haunting melancholia inherent in the original sample. leading the aa side, twitch passed a wild highlife song by ghanas atakoru manu to glasgows super talented auntie flo (whose highly recommended future rhythm machine album recently saw a release) to play around with. auntie flo cut it up and added additional drums and bass to come up with this euphoric modern highlife groover
