after inigos deeper & slower excursions on his 2 previous eps >the shard< & >the darkest valentine<, he now returns to his dirtier, more energetic tricks. as usual, i have been sitting on these tracks a while and both of them have been thoroughly road tested. >revenge< can rip up any dance floor peak time, while >scatter< explores idm territory, almost in afx fashion.

summer has all but gone as the darkness draws in, the clocks go back, and fina records releases something a little different for the night owls. cosmic dutch space cadets morning factory step up for fina 005 with a slow motion rhythm and tone ep. having previously appeared for yore records and brother from another mother 2020 vision, the guys have been busy in the windmill whittling a perfect autumn release. sultans of swing ep doesnt quite shadow dire straits but it certainly delivers. hypnotic title track of the same name is features futureproof basslines, layered with an enigmatic drowning echo-led synth while >lady< adds a different finish to the wax. here we find d angelo s 96 vocal hook effortlessly breaking through the shuffling punchy bass.

the third release on the world unknown label is a very meaty affair that coincides with the second birthday of the club night in brixton. on side w timothy j. fairplay fuses ancient egypt with late 80s belgium and drops it slap bang into the near future with the monolithic techno beast that is >cleopatra loves the acid<. its already been played in discos and on the bbc by andrew weatherall, for whom tim handles engineering and co-production duties in his day job, and is set to become a pounding anthem on the more adventurous dancefloors over the coming months. side u is a more throbbing psychedelic affair. kalidasa is the production alter-ego of tim rivers who runs the always excellent theacidhouse.com website. it<s exactly the kind of heavyweight midtempo tune that causes sweaty pandemonium at world unknown. if the word balearic still meant now what it did to from 87-92 then thats precisely what youd call this, most likely with the prefix >heavy<. but it doesnt so you cant, or can you?

in its original form, holy ghost!s debut album cut >hold my breath< is, pure and simple, great dancefloor electronic pop, in the hands of shadowy duo tiger & woods, the song has been totally reshaped and refracted through 80s r&b radio. they have slowed the pace and inserted synth-funk hot flashes that recall prince – and, no kidding, the time, and jimmy jam & terry lewis – to create a mood that fits comfortably (and pleasurably) within their future boogie m.o. cosmic kids ron poznansky and dan terndrup have taken the track in a more tensely dramatic direction. it might be the vaguely darkened synthline upon which much of that track sits that lends itself to its more intense feel here, and gives it such a pleasant nocturnal feel. finally, theres falty dls re-envisioning, which goes down awfully smooth for a track so full of the big, thick, bumping bass beats. it’s an aural pleasure to find yourself dreamily lost in the brooklyn, new york producer/djs halls of reverberating sound.

the title track >radio anatomy< is a synth-laden italo monster, serious dance-floor material. detuned pads fizz under an arp and walking bass, caving in to a tear-away synth lead that pumps the tune into overdrive. the groove has a pace to it and sits on top of the beat and all surrounding articulation and effects keep things interesting.
on the flip we have got a serious remix from none other than emperor machine. this guy has been unstoppable in the remix department for some time, and it doesnt look like he will be faltering anytime soon! we are initiated with brioskis fantastic original bass and pad sequence, but in typical e.m. fashion the build up is sustained and full of suspense. haunting vocal chants ensue before the bass drops and the funk kicks in. what a drop! the switches are clever, the instrumentation is solid and the vibe is out of this world. brioski - >radio anatomy is an unforgiving italo dance-floor release, with help from one of nangs finer contributors.

cutlass is the 12 inch that precedes >sword< xhins forthcoming full-length album on stroboscopic artefacts. four tracks from the album have been selected and spliced into completely new forms by four producers with very separate agendas. the minds, computers and analogue tools of surgeon, dadub, pfirter and perc have extracted new visions from xhins >sword< with nothing short of scientific pre - cision.

the path of hybrid is a specially constructed three-disc compilation that has been designed to chart the musical history of cari lekebuschs h-productions label. containing almost fifty tracks, the album blends re-mastered tracks from the labels deep catalogue with specially commissioned re-edits and remixes of classic hybrid tracks and the pick of new music from the current h-productions roster. the album is presented across two continuous dj mixes, compared by alexi delano (past mix) and cari lekebusch (present mix) plus a third unmixed disc containing previously unreleased tracks and remixes from the h-productions vaults.

following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

roberto cravallo has been hooked on vinyl since he bought his first 7inch at a flea market 1976. he made first steps djing in 1977 doing some dj performances at a sunday afternoon tea dance by using lenco lc 75 turntables. the edits he has produced for >solid disco gold< are extracted from and influenced by his enormous record collection that he has accumulated over the last 30 years. and he is still diggin the crates at carboot sales and second hand record stores today!

a few days ago james blake premiered a new track, a collaboration with bon iver called >fall creek boys choir<, and now its been announced that the track will be included in an upcoming ep from blake called enough thunder.
we now also know that the ep is due out october 10 on atlas and will feature blakes cover of joni mitchells >a case of you<, as well as four other new tracks from the electronic singer-songwriter wunderkind.

south of croydon raised christian sibthorpe (aka a1 bassline) sent over a few things over the last 12 months that really had me paying attention. but it was jessica (j. phlip) ended up being the first one to drop falsehood at the spring dirtybird party in sf which pretty much sealed the deal. it just smashed the room to bits. later on i met christian in person when he helped me do a live radio show at rinse fm in london along with ben westbeech and we agreed there that dirtybird would put these two tracks out.a1 claims to have been heavily influenced by early metalheadz and you can really here it on these tunes. while buoyancy is a smooth pulsing affair that really shines in the deeper mixes, falsehood (which we are re-releasing from a1s tighten up label) really buries the hatched in your brain with bits and pieces of 808s, breaks and house hi-hats all forged together like hot iron.

out of an 8.8 earthquake, riots and severe illness comes one of the most joyful records of the year. brian gibbs aka echo park has had a colourful life to say the least, living and making music in l.a., tokyo, madrid, mexico city and now santiago, chile where he lives with his young family. previously a producer of dark hip hop and dub, a series of disasters made him confront mortality and decide it was time to make the music that is closest to his heart: luscious, sunshine-infused electro-funk full of laid back attitude and real songs. skream has always been a lover of disco, boogie and electro – as anyone who has heard one of his specialist sets or his slick n sleazy remix of chromeo will know. it took just one hearing of brians first echo park tracks via a mutual friend to snap them up for disfigured dubz. in fact he has chosen echo park for the first full album on the label… but first comes this killer single, a shmoooove bit of vocoder funk that sets the tone for echo parks twin obsessions with technology and romance. bundled with it are a gutbusting ravemonster of a rework by 12th planet & flinch that somehow still keeps the soul of the track intact, and jon convex taking it way underground with a deeper-than-deep analogue techno version. there is something for everyone here and this is just the beginning.

frenchman julian jeweils second ep on richie hawtins plus 8 label is sure to confirm jeweils status as one of technos most reliable talents. the four track ep encompasses everything jeweil has honed in his ten year plus career – tough sounds, high energy and a fusion of electro and minimal that hypnotises as much as moves you. thus far it has come on labels like cocoon and skryptöm records, whilst at the same time jeweil (real name julien bérard) has been busy playing underground parties all across his homeland.

blockhead has been bringing you releases featuring tech, deep-tech, jackin, soulful, and all around funky music lately and this ep is another stellar addition to the label. we would like to introduce you to our newest member of the blockhead family >4beat club< & >jem cooke.< jem is well established pop singer out of the uk who has the voice of an angel and the tour schedule to prove it! she normally doesnt sing over house tracks but has made an exception for this release and we are extremely grateful.

james din a4 is the master of a stumbling, stubborn mpc techno style >made for dancefloors which have not been invented yet< - as a reviewer of his pingipung album in 2009 wrote. these two tracks mark the end of the series, and they do it with a playfulness and in the best of humours. for djs who like to break the rules.

recorded in late 2010 and mixed in a remote studio during the finnish snowstorms of early 2011, donky pitch present >the trick ep<, by helsinki resident and skweee pioneer v.c. six original tracks of synth soaked computer funk, electro inspired slow jams and colourful hip hop heaters. v.c. has been making moves in the skweee scene since the early days (as a solo artist and as 1/4 of supergroup yt). his combination of layered synths, hip hop beats and that type of funk only found in the cold reaches of the nordic region have scored him releases on every skweee label going (flogsta danshall / harmnia / mssy / ddpop / disques mazout) as well as ramp recordings. we felt it only right that he commanded our first true foray into the scandinavian electro funk sound of skweee.

>they were from downtown, somewhere in soho and boy did they love that drum machine of theirs...< following the stellar trip down 80s lane with the bicep boys, mystery meat returns with two rip-roaring edits from soho808, another rising duo, but this time from across the pond in nyc. these fine gents have been causing an absolute ruckus over the past few months or so following appearances on soul claps social experiment 002 mix (not to mention doing an awesome podcast for soul claps acclaimed series) as well as jamie jones fabric 59 mix, berlins dikso imprint, and being featured on the wurst music ever compilation due out this fall. big tings a gwan to say the very least! here we see the chaps head into edits territory, well sorta. to call these edits is quite an understatement. soho808 give a serious overhaul to two songs of discos past, adding additional instrumentation and tweaking the arrangement big time. first up to bat is trouble and strife, an amazing, slow-burning take on one of the most famous of songs from the past couple of decades. trust us, you cant resist! flip it over for a loopy counterpart, low-slung, sultry female vox and all. mmmm, well bring our meat to suzys bbq any day!

biscuit factory presents the dismantle ep! dismantle is a young producer from brighton who had been causing quite a stir in the dubstep scene with his refreshing new twist. also signed by wheel & deal, dismantle brings a quality e.p. to the biscuit. hailed by the likes of skream, benga, n-type, walsh, chef and hatcha, dismantle is one to look out for. this 3 track release includes the club anthem >clone< and 2 brand new tracks >last line< and >get on it< on the flip.

edit king leo zero returns with something very special to kick off a new run of no frills dancefloor bombs that have been tried and tested over the summer on a packed worldwide dj schedule from stockholm to tokyo and beyond. first up is an intensive slice and dice exercise on probably the best track from definitely the best band in the world: the clash. leo takes their most disco friendly outing >the maginificent dance< famously spun by mr levan at the garage - and with the more dubby rare levan version he homes in on looped 1 bar sections, skating along to create a new arrangement - added to the brew are bootleg recordings form the clashes infamous live show at nycs bonds ballroom, and even some baseline demos digitally siphoned from people practicing guitar along to the clash on youtube!….. we are left with is an epic labour of love edit that has already found its way into the a-listers record boxes - from derrick carter to laurent garnier who are all spinning this solid as a rock dub disco bomb. on the flip we have a classy house re-work of al hudson & partners >music< which sticks a chi-town kick and snare up its rear end along with some serious sub bass, and in the middle things get all wobbly with some trademark leo zero space echo rides and before we are quickly warped back-in and onto the floor… big with a load of top jocks too including severino of horse meat disco fame.

although its their first official release since 2010s disco anthem bubble bath and its accompanying ep, the swiss have hardly been taking it easy. they have spent the past 12 months taking their live show on the road, playing club nightsacross the us and europe including philly banger making time, fixed in new york, social club in paris, the modular summer sundance in the uk, and gracing the sydney opera house stage for australias vivid festival.
in between shows, swiss members tony mitolo, luke godson, and producer donnie sloan have been steadily working on new material, with a full album expected in 2012. double or nothing, which was written in a hotel room straight after tony played glastonbury this year as part of empire of the sun, is the first taste of whats to come from the group.

the jivers is a production duo formed by the two french djs/producers don pascal and fred spider. having not known each other before, their paths first crossed when both of them had moved to barcelona in 2007. soon they discovered their common love for deep and soulful music ranging from jazz, funk, brazil to nu-jazz, broken beat or house. their debut single >do what< has already been featured on the jazz&milk breaks compilation and received amazing feedback and spins from djs all over the globe and was brought to an even broader audience after being included on several compilations such as >saint germain des pres cafe<. now the song is being re-released in form of the do what ep including a brand new track called >move on girl<, again featuring the unmistakable voice of anqui and remixes by dj moodz, don pascal and fred spider. the jivers music can be described as a dance-floor oriented fusion of jazz elements with modern beat productions including the colorful and melodic vocals of anqui.

about one year ago melon met two old friends from amsterdam lying on the streets of berlin who gave him an old fashion tape. out of respect of his (now homeless junkies) friends he borrowed an old tape deck and gave it a listen. he really liked the track but unfortunately he never found his friends again when he went out looking for them. after playing it for months and getting massive feedback the decision has been made to put it out and complimented with two fantastic remixes by california house legend doc martin & newcomer tom ruijg from amsterdam, its now available for everybody. p.s. guys i owe you a fix!

altered natives has been making some noise this last year, with his underground smash >raas out<, followed by a remix for hyperdub and a release on martyns, 3024 label. other releases and remixes have followed, including the albums >tenement yard vol 1< and >serial vendetta< on his own eye4eye inprint. >the tenement yard vol 1< are a series of experiments that were conducted in natives norf lungdon laboratory in 2009 fusing house, techno and dubstep combined with natives unique production talents. the third and final vinyl release from altered natives tenement yard volume one, is finally delivered, from the album, thats caught press and djs attention such as, kode9, martyn and paul woolford to name a few. with three more experiments fusing together house, techno and uk funky and is limited to 300 units…
