this is the 4th release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. subhead is a completely unique techno act whose sound is instantly recognizable and has a well earned reputation for energetic live shows mixing its core techno ammo with both hip hop sound aesthetics and a solid dose of punk rock attitude. their previous releases have appeared on various stunning labels including don’t, neue heimat, sativae, tresor and its own subhead & 2cb imprints. this release has three original subhead tracks, ‘sod it!’, ‘yknot’, ‘slagheap’ and a never before occurrence whereby jason leach has actually let someone remix one of his own compositions. who’s even capable of such a feet ……… crystal distortion of course with his remix of ‘slagheap’ which is an auditory event of such magnitude it defies all sensory belief. the mentalist machine menaces have spoken.

after releases on saints & sonnets and stay underground, it pays, berlin artist quell aligns with the mil label for the four track tomahawk which further cements his reputation for no-nonsense, stripped back house and techno music. size 7 sets the tone, a dark, underground roller with a trilling bassline and acidy bleeps that sits nicely alongside the shimmering chords and deep dubby vibes of monolame. on the b-side, harhead leads with fluid percussive rhythms and sequential kick drums to give an immediate grooveintrinsic melody. the energetic, grooveled tone continues into the last track, where are they now, a dark, technofused stripped back rhythm track with an acid tinged-feel.

for this second release the new parisian label street knowledge choose to produce two young native italians djs. peter jd and francys met in a small city in the south of italy, both evolving on the music scene since they are 14. peter is bringing the detroit house music touch whereas francys the 80s 90s music sound. from this collaboration is born the connection ep. where two different worlds find each other in a common space, connection ep brings different ideas of sound at the same time, by one side following a dry techno line with pumping drums and solid grooves, by the other side warmer and deeper, crossing hypnotic detroit flavored synths, chicago house, organic elements and chromatic female vocals. to make this release totally international jenifa mayanja from connecticut and the greek quell are delivering two remixes that should make a bomb effect on all the dance floors.
