re:works is the result of a groundbreaking project that sees the rich catalogue of decca classics being opened to some of the worlds foremost electronic producers, seeking to further establish the common ground between the historic and modern day aspects of musical composition. ranging from the experimental to the more recognisable 4/4 structures of house and techno, re:works elicits the full range of emotion – from the heartbreaking to the ecstatic. francesco tristano takes on one of the most recogniseable piano riffs of all time with his remix of ‘merry christmas mr. laurence, which, after a brief introduction of that seminal loop, descends into deep, dubby house cut punctuated by shimmering keys. patrice baumels remix is an intense techno workout that is in many ways the antithesis of his definitive roar: a non-stop pummeling via clattering percussion and a heavy, pulsing bassline. completing the package, grammy-nominated studio legend martin buttrich delivers a melancholy, minimalistic techno take on saties gnossienne no.4
grammy award-winning gregory porter returns with take me to the alley, the much-anticipated follow-up to his 2013 platinum album liquid spirit. the coolest guy in music, the album features a reworked version of ‘holding on’, the track gregory co-wrote with electronic act disclosure, as well as autobiographical songs including ‘don’t lose your steam’ and title track ‘take me to the alley’, both written with his family in mind.
the double vinyl lp is housed in a gatefold sleeve.
mit “all my demons greeting me as a friend” veröffentlicht die norwegische sängerin aurora ihr mit spannung erwartetes debüt-album. der jungen skandinavierin gelang im jahr 2015 mit der energiegeladenen ballade “running with the wolfes” der große durchbruch - hierzulande nicht zuletzt dank einer großen kampagne des mobilfunk-anbieters vodafone. aurora ist aber viel mehr als ihr großer hit - und hat auch vorher bereits beeindruckendes geleistet.
the running with the wolves ep features six tracks from norwegian starlet aurora. icy, electronic beats are set against aurora’s soaring, captivating vocal delivery which fully confirm that the hype already behind her is completely justified. her music has been lauded across the board so far with the line of best fit stating that she ‘writes with the maturity of someone twice her age’ and nme that aurora’s brand of ‘atmospheric pop certainly has the strength to back up the hype’. the ep is available physically as a 10” gatefold with heavy weight vinyl.
imelda may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. she is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldnt be out of place in a david lynch film) and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair.
