(180 g heavyweight vinyl, includes cd) continuing on from a series of successful eps on token including last years ostinato, antigone returns to the label with rising, his first experiment with the lp format. rising is an album that exerts itselfto stimulate the mind and the body simultaneously. as such, its a record that gives the dramatic illusion of having a physical pulse.
after the powerful excursion of last year s calcata, neel returns to token with transition. conceptually based around four elements in the group known as the transition metals and recorded live in one take, each track is a mind-bending trip through the periodic table that retains the human touch of a live performance.
o phase presents two striking, no-nonsense techno cuts for token85. each side of suspended animation delivers the special kind of face melter that manages to remain sincere without being overly self-serious. stroke b favours the sensational approach, with a bright and playful lead playing against a hi-hat frenzy in the breakdown. stroke c is more introverted on surface level, but offers pure chaos instead from its depth.
after the celebrated metabolism lp from last year, sigha is back with an untitled 4-track cut for token84. after the celebrated metabolism lp from last year, sigha is back with a 4-track cut for token84. this untitled record remains understated, playing with variations on a theme whereby the similarities exist seemingly to illuminate the differences between the tracks. the relationship between circular and hum is reminiscent of sigha s 2016 new puritan flip on the earlier offering of puritan from 2012, with circular presenting a tight, meditative loop in high-mid frequencies while hum inhabits a similar space, only seemingly from a distance. if those two are close, measured and controlled, the other tracks on the record demonstrate more freedom and abandon. gliss is huge and heavy, while flare s sonic elements interact playfully and scatter as the piece progresses.
(180 gr heavyweight vinyl, incl cd) kennedys 2007 record identify yourself was the beginning of a close relationship between him & token and has remained fruitful through the 11 years of tokens existence. he is now long-recognized as an integral contributor to tokens output, the label is the indisputable natural home for his sixth album. strata progresses through levels of ornate drama showing off the best of his melodic manipulation and creativity in sound design.
(incl. translucent insert) token79 feels conceptually complete as a record: the similarities between the tracks are almost as striking as their individual qualities. each piece is titled in reference to planetary layers, each presenting another piece of the same world. as tokens first ever releasing artist and now long recognized as an integral contributor to its distinctive sound, kennedy continues to offer his part in shaping the labels identity.
(3lp with embossed sleeve incl cd) token celebrates its 10 years anniversary with momentum, a celebration of the close-knit family of artists amassed throughout the labels running. the record is a fitting collaborative project with every track on the album produced by two longstanding and well-respected artists from the labels roster: rødhåd, sigha, antigone, Ø phase, oscar mulero, inigo kennedy, tadeo, ctrls & labelhead kr!z himself
(incl 4 tracks + 2 locked grooves) the ctrls class of inventive, inorganic techno is a mainstay of tokens output. for his ninth solo ep, he takes a trip down a back alley to the spirit of some of his earlier releases on the label.
(180 gr vinyl incl. cd) token is pleased to announce the sophomore album from sigha. metabolism represents an arrival: the artist offers his definitive statement on a production aesthetic that has been in development over the last few years.
mechanical rhythms, whip-crack electronic riffs, insistent robot vocals: ctrls proved to master these sounds very well on his past eps and he only seems to perfect his skills on this 4th instalment.early support from shifted, oscar mulero, marcel fengler, truss, steve rachmad, rrose.
oscar mulero s contribution to the token catalogue goes all the way back to 2008. the new electric shades ep opens and closes with sci-fi theatrics also operates with the solid functionality of mulero s earlier work. the voyage is agitated and bleepy while heavy roller signal trace plays deeper with similar themes. triad and extension too are weighty highlights, affording the record plenty of utilitarian benefit for djs and home listening enthusiasts alike.
mysterious newcomer banke delivers a profound debut for token81. the totem eps tempered sophistication and clear sense of purpose belies bankes neophyte status, establishing him instead in the ranks of tokens most experienced artists in terms of skill and ingenuity.
sigha s lauded metabolism album is further commended with a remix ep for token 77. with three highly qualified label newcomers enlisted to the task of reimagining aspects of the album, the music is reworked into a new context to powerful effect.
best known for his ambient excursions as voices from the lake alongside donato dozzy, neel joins token with the 4-track calcata. from his collaborations with dozzy to his solo work for their joint-run label spazio disponibile, neels studio experience as a mastering engineer has gained him recognition as a producer who pays great attention the technical aspects of his sound.
after the three-track time enough at last, antigone returns with ostinato for token75. as a project, the record is thematically accurate, adhering to its titles suggestion on both sides. the tracks play with layering techniques, gradually building a spectrum of sound around their respective persistent motifs. antigone shifts these insistent base elements, allowing them the foreground before masking within a blend of carefully processed and organic-sounding details.
vast and cinematic. inigo kennedys refined, courageous sound continues to be a definitive element of tokens output. after the ncg ep and surrender / castles in the air as his ongoing successes for the label in 2016, kennedy is back with a 3-trackep for token 74.
from his very first release, johannes volks strict yet creative adherence to the detroit tradition has garnered him a position among the greats. renowned these days as a producer with a seemingly-unending ability to produce classic-leaning futuristic techno, volk has built a serious discography over the past 11 years. for his first token offering, volk goes above and beyond with the 4-track ep designing evolution
after the success of the broad and powerful second lp alone in time?, Ø phase continues his ongoing connection to token with the submerged metropolitan ep. the title track enters with burchett s own brand of unease, the lead is tense and discordant, moving over a bumpy, rolling kick. brushing off-beat hats rush overhead and play delicately with this unease above the thunder. a vague spoken word sample adds texture and contributes to the cerebral edge. ethereal swells and intense rhythmic play introduce fallen columns, which delves into atonality with keys that add a controlled recklessness to the composition. this absent mind takes on a hypnotic, dubby form with a confidence that belies its complexity. a sublime breakdown introduces the heavier second half of the track, which enters impressively and batters on to the end.
this is electronic programme music, bookended in distinctive tadeo style with a modal string section that places the record firmly in the avant-garde, the pit guides us through the moods and associations of a classic science fiction narrative.
antigone joined token in 2015 with his grand double ep cantor dust. he returned again earlier this year with the saudade ep for token59 an overall heavier offering that still manages to retain some of the delicacy of the first. now hes backwith a 3 tracker for token68 where employs an advancement on his usual sonic vocabulary
remixes by o/v/r (james ruskin & regis) & Ø phase. Ø phases 2015 album alone in time? was the second lp in a remarkable line of releases on token since 2007. token65 is a retrospective tribute to the record, offering remixes of two tracks.
oscar mulero is a one-man techno institution. after his first release on token in 2008, mulero teamed up with christian wünsch for two eps as spherical coordinates.now hes back with a new solo 4-track contribution
sigha is back with a new double a-side in the same vein as the last: a booming, atmospheric achievement, showcasing his signature attention to detail and exploring the concepts of purity, faith and religion.
(ltd to 300 copies with custom made silk screen artwork) this ep continues with a theme originating from the final track on vaudeville, delving into the aesthetics of the interstellar clouds of cygnus and draco, also visual on the artwork.
since the turn of the decade token has by and large been an exclusive platform for the music of inigo kennedy, ¥ phase and ctrls. the belgian label has, however, remained on point by putting out formidable productions by rich oddie & ancient methods eschaton project, german powerhouse r¢dhåd and spanish heavy weights oscar mulero and christian wünsch as spherical coordinates, to some intercontinental fare by xhin and go hiyama. token, an iron clad operation continuously manufacturing unyielding techno, has always, deep within its impenetrable shell, had a soft spot for british techno. and following a reissue of mark brooms two, maintaining the glacial release rate of rodz-konez legend makaton, and welcoming surgeon to its fold with the thunderous fixed action pattern 12inch, the belgian label seeks out some fresh uk blood by inviting james shaw, aka sigha, to debut on the label with a stylistically sleek and suitably booming 12inch, our father / a better way of living.
(180gr) token welcomes new blood. antigone debutes with the cantor dust ep, a 2x12 that showcases his musical versitality, from spacial electronica over detroit-inspired grooves to rasping mechanical techno with booming low-end and grinding drones.
located beyond neptunes orbit is the dwarf planet haumea, the inspiration behind rodhads second release for token. it follows his spomeniks 12inch from last year which the berliner used to debut on the belgian label, the only other imprint hes released with other than his own dystopian records. over the past three years rodhads reputation has sky-rocketed, not only as an accomplished producer with five releases to his name, but as a big room dj whose formidable presence behind the decks demands as much respect as dvs1 and german big guns dettmann and klock.
token followers can rejoice that now, 2014, surgeon finally makes his official debut on the label. fixed action pattern comes as prequel to aphelion, a forthcoming compilation of new and exclusive material. aphelion will differ from last years token introspective mix cd by providing a collection of bespoke productions from token regulars and like-minded artists who were commissioned by label owner kr!z to bring their individual and complimenting sound to the belgian imprints all-consuming 48th release. following this surgeon 12, rødhåd will release his second record for token before the final unveiling of aphelion.
(180 gr heavyweight vinyl, includes cd) after 7 years & 10 releases inigo kennedy releases his first full length on token: vaudeville, a project that feels like the culmination of all those years and all those records.
after 7 years & 10 releases inigo kennedy releases his first full length on token: vaudeville, a project that feels like the culmination of all those years and all those records. heres the first taste of that album.supported by the untold, ame, luke slater, xhin and ben ufo
robert hood rmx!on the a-side rodhad delivers an epic 10 minute interpretation of the first single perplexed, while robert hood delivers a second, more minimalistic take on dirtro ii for the flip. early support from ben klock, josh wink, blawan, marcel fengler, shifted, adam beyer, oscar mulero & more
those who are familiar with their techno will know that the genre doesnt get much more intense than it does on the music of orphx and ancient methods. the three artists unite now under the name eschaton.early support from blawan, untold, perc, objekt, ben ufo, marcel fengler & truss.
incl. robert hood remix! dirtro ii is definitely one of the standout cuts of the album and shows phase in his darkest and deepest mood. on the b-side he is joined by one of his biggest inspirations & one of technos most legendary innovators.dj support is obviously seriously heavy with ben klock, surgeon, cosmin trg, josh wink, len faki, oscar mulero, chris liebing, shifted, dvs1, marcel fengler, dj deep, peter van hoesen, truncate, ben sims, steve rachmad and marcel dettmann amongst others.
after widely acclaimed cathedral in january & emitter/collector in july, inigo reveals his third ep for 2013: three no nonsense tracks in his distinctive style: dark, refined and so very magnetic.big support by luke slater, adam beyer, dvs1, mark broom, norman nodge, rodhad
(sleeparchive remixes) after 2 eps, 1 remix, 1 track licensed to norman nodges ostgut compilation, support from blawan, luke slater, marcel dettmann, untold & others, gigs at fabric, berghain and other clubs across europe, ctrls delivers his 3rd ep
2 tracks from the forthcoming phase album frames of reference, which will be released this autumn. both pieces bring display strong & intense techno with an incredible sense for depth & detail. few seem to master these qualities like phase does.
after inigos well-received previous release >the shard<, he now steps up again with 2 epic pieces of electronic beauty.
i still find it hard to describe music after all these years, as i think the most important is what people feel when listening to it rather than pigeon holing the hell out of it. i simply love it, hope you do too. (kr!z)
since his last release for token in 2010, go hiyama has graced other heavyweight techno institutions like stroboscopic artefacts, perc trax & audio assault. now he returns to token, following phases highly acclaimed binary opposition reprocessed!
token is 5 years old. i never planned to do anything special for this occasion. however, when i received these 2 new tracks from phase, all just fell into place. this release pretty much sums up what token stands for since day one. both tracks are fierce pieces of relentless yet deep techno, in-your-face yet very subtle rhythms, all credited to phases detailed drum programming, keen sense of atmospherics & sound processing.
what else.. except for the fact we flipped the graphic design a bit, we can tell you 2012 is going to be a busy year for token. there is a lot of exciting music floating around we definitely want to share with you soon, not just the usual suspects but also some new signings.
keep your ears peeled.
after inigos deeper & slower excursions on his 2 previous eps >the shard< & >the darkest valentine<, he now returns to his dirtier, more energetic tricks. as usual, i have been sitting on these tracks a while and both of them have been thoroughly road tested. >revenge< can rip up any dance floor peak time, while >scatter< explores idm territory, almost in afx fashion.
go hiyama has always been a very interesting artist for me, ever since he emerged in 2002 on james ruskins coda label. both his musical & production style have changed a lot since then and i personally feel theres still no one out there who comes near to what he is doing. we planned on working together since a long time now and i am glad we finally made it work with this brilliant 4 tracker. no fillers. all 4 tracks have been tested thoroughly in my sets and always stood out as highlights.
no compromises on these fierce punishing drums, delivered by one of the most promising talents in techno the last years. hope you will enjoy playing these tracks as much as i do. (kr!z)
turning and turning in the widening gyre
the falcon cannot hear the falconer,
things fall apart, the centre cannot hold,
mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
the ceremony of innocence is drowned,
the best lack all conviction, while the worst
are full of passionate intensity.
surely some revelation is at hand,
surely the second coming is at hand.
arrestar, hailing from brussels, is the second belgian artist releasing on token. he sent me this killer idm/techno track some time ago and it was immediately a favourite of mine. i fell in love with it the moment i heard it. in the end, it just needed a release. im not the only supporter of this track: inigo kennedy, oscar mulero & grovskopa love it too, so they decided to contribute with each another interpretation of the track, which in the end results in a diverse package.
bit with luke slater, adam beyer, the advent !! essential techno, part 10. two years ago, inigo kennedy put token on the map with a huge first release. now he returns again with a solid & storming dance floor ep!
hailing from madrid, oscar mulero is the nr 1 spanish export in techno. being one of the major driving forces of the underground techno sound of today, makes it only natural he d connect with token on some point
plays by jeff mils, dave clarke, james ruskin, paul mac, pacou and many more.. phase is back on token with a winner. after >morodem<, which was sold out even before its actual release, we decided not to wait too long for the follow up which is a double a-side, a for the peaktime hour & aa for the afterhour..
supported by ben sims, dave clarke, steve rachmad, bart skills, dj 3000, cari lekebusch and many more.. the time is now, a new token, a new wave of mayhem for dancefloors worldwide. for 6 we have the first belgian artist on token. its been a while since we saw a release by dimitri andreas and since he released his widely well received panther ep on the highly acclaimed music man label in 2003, the mass was hungry for a new release. london based producer and blueprint legend james ruskin takes care of another interpretation for the flip side. with his recent album >the dash< on tresor, he continues his legacy. here, mr ruskin keeps the groove of the original track and gives it a bit more intimacy and funk
supported & played by dave clarke, paul mac, angel molina, dj shufflemaster, mark broom, laurent garnier, cari lekebusch and many more.. after the storm one year ago, caused by inigos >identify yourself< (token 1), we just had to have a follow up. and not just a regular follow up.. token 5 contains 4 individual floorfillers that are each special in their own way.
played by derrick may, dave clark, laurent garnier !! token special will highlight a deeper, less dark variaton of the main imprint. on this first dition, phase delivers a timeless piece of funk, driven on killerstabs and dreamy synths. add the typical phase percussion and you have another winner. both mixes contain a huge amount of energy while still keeping it intimate. their timeless detroit feel will certainly haunt worldwide dancefloors for a long time
token is back, and how. radial are jeroen liebregts and laurens van der starre, hailing from holland comes with 3 monster tracks for big floors !! huge support by surgeon, the advent, ben sims, mark broom, paul mac, bart skils, ortin cam and other key players
the second artist from london releasing on token is phase. this young artist is new to the game, he released some classic releases on steve bicknells legendare cosmic imprint and more recently on the 65d mavericks quality label inceptive & ben sims ingoma. he brings 3 deep, yet intense dancefloor tracks, using his recognizable power and drive.
supported by steve rachmad, steve bicknell, oscar mulero, laurent garnier and many more, token is back with a french duo: sub space aka dj julien & gonzague. they bring a powerful & dark ep straight from outerspace.. hold on tight
token is pleased to announce the sophomore album from sigha. metabolism represents an arrival: the artist offers his definitive statement on a production aesthetic that has been in development over the last few years.
