following on from 2016’s excellent “birsk” single on futureboogie, philipp lauer returns to the label with a new three track single. the “las brisas” ep kick starts with the mechanical funk of “pile”, acidic notes drip over heavy ebm drums whilst a hovering ‘resse’ style bassline dominates, the influence of early house and industrial dance are ever present here on this belter of a track from the tuff city kids and talamanca system player.
more acid pressure can be found on “clipper”, a blazing and dynamic slice of anthemic balearic dance. searing pads and lustrous melodies pour over the robust drum machine workout, that’ll have dancers reaching for the skies! real stirring stuff from lauer, which continues with closing track “tyco”. ricocheting stabs and cowbell hits bounce off a sturdy kick drum as the track flourishes with more on-point melodies and a snaking bass. dripping with emotive refrains, lauer brings his very best to the table here, and rounds off an ep that’s most definitely all killer and no filler!

this june session victim returned to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album. listen to your heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lp see you when you get there. here we present the third of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew.
we kick things off with almost midnight, another uplifting summer jam loaded with trademark session victim energy and positive vibrations. next up we have castle for sale which drops the bpm’s for a dub influenced, spaced out jam session sounding like king tubby and nightmares on wax getting stuck in the proverbial lift with a large bong for company.
flipping over we have a head over heels, which goes heavy on the lush orchestral strings and a brilliant bouncing moog bassline bringing a deft touch. finally we’re treated to thermal explorer, which incorporates some wonderful larry heard-esque keyboards for a perfect wind-down track to close the release.

the second release from ftp explores the sweet spot between detroit ghetto-tech, juke, and jungle. the opening track, “phonky no. 69,” is designed for maximum level booty dropping effect. it starts with a raunchy vocal hook over a booming electro beat, before unleashing nasty breaks, at which point the dance floor is guaranteed to pop off. handle with care when deploying this bomb, the first release from dj dr-660. the second track on the a side paces upward and into juke territory. it fills up the sonic space with lush pads and crisp jungle breaks, before breaking down to thick rhodes chords, in eternal rashad fashion. the b side opens with a track from the mysterious newcomer shadow moses, who teases with some euphoric pads, before launching a massive lardossian missile that heads straight for the booty. the compilation closes with a electro beat executed with surgical precision and care, filled with hypnotic percussive elements and a life-affirming baseline. it was lovingly distilled and synthesized in frankfurt directly from the detroit source.

the artist known as g-23 continues his journey to the head of the gum under the schooldesk underground with this release on torn hawks valcrond video. this multi-faceted italian producer also deploys weirdo sounds under the name secret rave and strange audio dreams, often on his own label art-aud. he has also released under the alias moscow death disco on helena hauff s return to disorder. remixes of access code from valcrond affiliates decor and mr. husk start off each side. both will pound and smear club meat all over the countertop. lets pound those veal cutlets so thin you ll be able to see through them like flesh-pink stained glass. a2 brings us the sleazy slouch of bleep shots. it sure sounds like a crew of developmentally impaired bullies out to steal your lunch money, so hold on to your fanny pack. finally, the title track closes things out in a brilliantly uncomfortable way. ars trip is a headache you d pay to have.

zwo fremde was recorded in 1994 by zky and daniel paul (aka cab drivers). the next year cabinet records was founded. the track now comes in full length on vinyl, mastered from the original tape. this gem is a master piece and a blueprint for many tracks these guys made. also other artists are inspired by this timeless classic, like konstantin sibold: it was the model for his track >mother< he said. backside 50 is the perfect b-side and rounds off the 50th release on berlins house label no. 1.

with lukas lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as this is why ep. the a-side kicks off with the discoish banger q&h and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by lorenz rhode not only famous for his releases on compost records or exploited but also for taking detroit-swindle-liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. the deeper side of lukas’ sound is represented on the b-side. starting with edgy piano chords, solid/fragile (coexistence) introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. with its distinctive strings, nothing but a heartache makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

an-2 and samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions theyd recorded together years back. maxim samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from minsk, belarus that we know for years. his first appearance on theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune alpha storm, which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the prins thomas live at robert johnson compilation. as well as guitars, maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. after scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. an-2 commented on samos playing on the saz during one of his first visits to minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together something that took 10 years, but the wait’s been worth it. what weve got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. the storys continued on the b-side, where were treated to a tale of trips in a gti, before finishing with a nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the polar circle.

we have been waiting for pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad rothmans and what a time to play that hand card. teaming up once more with his aussie team mate dawn again and a first apperance from leeds legends clandestino. the first track from the ep cobblejam is nothing short of first class, a worthy italo, chuggy, powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. the b-side finds us with the slightly strangely named woman for a day theres nothing strange about the track itself though. a deep and dark track that slowly drives forward into the abyss. finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at clandestino. their dessert trance vibe brings the record together as sweetly as pele brought together that 1970 world cup winning team.

hell yeah is back with more beach ready and boat party styled summer tunes, this time from riccio. this italian producer has long been making essential edits, off kilter grooves and soul kissed house sounds that demand to be played loud and these new ones are no different. described by the label boss as balearic big beat, this ep kicks off with afro chemy, a scorching seven minute tune that builds on a bed of fat drums. the scattered percussion is loose and organic and when the funky bass and colourful xylophone sounds comes in you can t help but cut loose. add in a sexy trumpet line and you have the sound of summer distilled into seven sensational minutes. funky cave will get any party started with its old school drum breaks and cymbal splashes sounding like the ocean when you plunge in on a hot day. busted bass lines add a certain fatness and cosmic keys and steamy guitar licks make this another perfect outdoor anthem. last of all is the blissed out heather, one to drop at sundown after a long day s dancing. the beats are warm and lumpy, the synths smear out to the horizon like gently breaking waves and soulful leads really get your heart swelling. proper.

yandom are not new to the scene. but then again they are. the project has been kicked off by yannick labbe and dominik marz, already renowned producers and djs before they decided to join forces in in january of 2017 with their remix for dekodeko on leipzig-based label ors. yandoms productions are discoid excursions to the dark side a sound spanning from leftfield italo-esque productions to straight up techno-bangers. a sound already loved and played by artists like michael mayer, solomun, kornel kovacs and many more. at the moment, yandom are working on eps following their next release on &nd music (scheduled for september 2017). as djs, yandom deliver an infectious and very musical freestyleapproach, dropping anything from techno to vintage classics and held together by a strong foundation of electronica. a yandom-set is anything but random and yes, they do look as good in reality as on the photos.

alter is the new album from belgium-based double bass player and electronic producer otto lindholm. divided into four colour-inspired, long-form movements, alter takes off from lindholms previous work a self-titled album released in 2015 on icarus records, and pushes the already abundant palette of sounds even further. this new work is more brooding and hypnotic. a deep, resonating bass is present - hinting at the likes of greek, chamber-doom merchants mohammad but perhaps with more attention placed upon textures and melody. the record moves at a funereal pace and opener fauve hits abyssal depths from the outset. a bowed melody is coaxed through the throbbing bass with dissonant harmonics drawing you in and holding you close. the ghostly beginnings of alyscamps create an overwhelmingly tense atmosphere where acoustic and electronic elements collide and evolve into a heaving, ceremonious drone. shafts of light emerge through the fog but the tone remains a haunted one. closer, heliotrope, strikes a more hopeful note. a lighter, more open feel emerges - bringing to mind early work of the rachels or perhaps deaf center.

finally a fresh mcde is announced! new one from long time deep house/broken producer, pablo valentino... . its been four years since label co-founder pablo valentino became a daddy, and almost as old is the idea of him releasing a record on our imprint. so what makes more sense than to dedicate this record to hugo-joão, his son? on -my son s smile- we can hear a recording of hugo-joão s laughter over a mellow, summery house track that has been a big favorite of danilo over the years. with a little help from lyon producer patchworks, who played bass on the track, valentino pulls off one of his most sophisticated productions yet.

office recordings continues to surprise us. after baaz s techno-/ambient-hybrid on office 011 the label from berlin comes up with a stunning new and anonymous project called * one day* featuring four also unnamed tracks. the a-side of the record starts off with a with a superb deep techno track which tempts us with very emotional pads and a strong kick and bass fundament û an irresistible combination. a2 goes in the same direction but feels like the slightly mellower and softer brother of its predecessor û a little bit moody but still straightforward at the same time. the flip side is dedicated to two freestyle electronic tracks standing in the tradition of the best warp offerings from their heyday in the 90s. weÆre talking charming melodies and sparse but elaborate rhythmic patterns. the record comes in a hand stamped and with a lovely artwork also hand made by office art director super quiet. all tracks have been mastered and cut by sound engineering proficient pole at scape mastering.

tbd, the decade-old project from doug lee (an-i) and justin van der volgen, is back! known for their set-defining big room monster jams, below sees them on a deep, heavy and very trippy analogue tip. synths wheeze and bubble while a thick syncopated bass and a giant kick drum keep the proceedings firmly locked to the dance floor. on the flip, legendary japanese dj and producer dj kent steps up on remix duty under his the backwoods alias. building off the original, he adds sharp percussion and tastefully refocuses the track, creating a perfect complimentary mix to the a-side.

love & loops is back ! after the 1st release the label commanded by ale castro returns to the ring. the 1st track of the vinyl belongs to the young argentine talent gruuv who drop a super groovy tune to start shaking the dance floor. then ale castro finally release his improvisation on the synthesizers, a classic of jackin house in his presentations, now available to the whole world. side b kick off with the very well-know german producer dotstripe, who continues the synthesizer madness with a full groovy track with vocals that remind his old school roots. last but not least, bs as deep delivers another sick tune with his classical house sound, perfectly to close this 2nd various artists, a bunch of tools for any kind of dance floor, music made with love, loops and some random machines.

i try to perform as honestly as possible — the soundbite borrowed from late dancer dudley williams for this record s second track could have been uttered by the mole himself. it s this candor that has allowed us to bear witness to a very marked and very audible transition from his days as a producer in montreal to becoming a part of the berlin scene. and what we have here is one result of that very explicit sonic metamorphosis. de la planet is our dyslexic subject s third studio album, one that stays true to his ethos of weird above all in the best possible sense. and yet it feels like something distinctly new. tapping his enormous reservoir of vinyl and sampling the odd film have acted as complement to the jaw-dropping arsenal of synthesizers at de la plante s disposal—a battery of machines he s been quietly improving his skills on during the past few years. or not so quietly, perhaps. the man himself would probably say -i m coming out of the woodshed-, and go off on a tangent about sonny rollins and his saint of a wife. but that s a story for another sheet.

tokyo based techno label human lessons is proud to announce our very first vinyl release of confusion. this ep is quite deluxe because it s the exactly a year ago the label has officially started and thus we wanted to do something special this time. the boss of the label emika elena worked two tracks with one of the best producers in japan ryogo yamamori. human lessons welcomes great producers as remixers, half of the hiss:1292 duo swiss producer opuswerk, who releases for dement3d, and farceb is one of the most promising newcomers in argentina, he recently provided his podcast for polegroup. the ep contains 4 tracks, things kick off with paranoid is a perfect track for peak time. paradox is simultaneously deep and unique, opusweak remix is for later hours and farceb delivers a minimalistic remix.

million brazilians formed in portland, oregon in 2006. founding members grant corum and suzanne stone have been central to the band since its inception, while a rotating line-up backs them depending on the latest vision for the sound. tip! the band carry out their own interpretation of a genre bending ethos that has evolved throughout the american underground. drifting between boundless compositions, focused energetic improvisations and experimental collaborations that embrace a weird sort of transcendence. their next installment red rose and obsidian was recorded in maine and engineered by big blood’s caleb mulkerin. both he and the band deliver a powerful yet fragile and personal release. the mythical and evocative recordings are inspired by maine s rugged coastlines, mournful ripples of sound wash up on the shore, whilst a lonesome, at times harrowing saxophone drifts through the rolling mountains, providing unsettling melodic interludes. electronic treatments veil organic sounds, a fleeting whistle meets spontaneously with spacey flutes, mutated rock rhythms are topped off with the soaring vocals of suzanne stone who leads the listeners into the magical world of the million brazilians.

shintaro.d is new on the scene, but this promising japanese producer follows up on his debut on his own label init with this assured 12inch for jus groove it, taking the stripped down deep house template and injecting it with an off-kilter approach to sound design that subtly makes for one of the most effective dj tools heard in recent memory. that track in question is kohisikarubeki, and its remix by rhythm & soul takes those intricately carved shards of sound design and smooths them into a more conventional house music shape. the b-side finds shintaro.d turning out more of that subversive, future-minded deep house business, with waganamidakana being a clear highlight.

2deepsoul are the core crew behind inner shift music, so as you might expect they ve got a keen instinct for the finest strains of pure deep house as you d happily dig from the likes of patrice scott or fred p. they open up the windows ep with the dreamy haze of clarity before contour lines brings a pulsing, techy lead into the mixture of sweeping pads and snappy beats. someday is a rich, harmonious ambient excursion, and then its a sign finishes the ep off with a truly meditative trip for the smoothest deep house cruisers to lock onto.

munichs martin matiske started his recording career at fifteen with his stunning ep stars & galaxy for dj hells gigollo records back in 2002. here he dons 4 fresh tracks for the vivod label with his trademark electro sound, somewhere between dopplereffekt, classical & wave. kicking off the ep is die nibelungen, a sort of speak & spell classical piece with an electro backing track. a2 - bayerischer wald is a chord heavy majestic bomb in a 5/4 time signature, maybe a stretch too far for the linear techno dj but thats what makes this ep so interesting. b2 - virtuosic mechanic harks back to his previous work on gigollo records, a more club orientated track which should do some effective damage on the floor. rounding things off is kammermusik, a subtle electro ballad. if you like your electro with a heavy classical influence then this is your ep.

for the third release on decoder recordings, filip xavi makes his debut to the label. the serbian producer and resident dj of the drugstore club in belgrade delivers four superb techno tracks. all of them are characterized by an obscure sound but directly aimed at the dance floor. the first track wd-4d is a powerful opening of the ep, with its successor aw-fl keeping pace nicely. the b side of this ep can t be ignored, as the opening track he-ap kicks off quite fierce. the final composition named d-ui is an excellent hypnotic dj tool.

bleu nuit (bn) is glad to introduce you to its first release a night on planet earth (bn01) by barcelona-based italian artist flavio folco. known for his musical compositions on his late imprint fresh food (napoli), among others, flavio folco has also made a name for himself as a dj with multiple appearances alongside his friend joseph capriati. whereas a night on planet earth could have seen the light of the day in 2015, when lumièreslanuit (lln) got the demo through a friend, it s finally two years later that the four-tracks ep is finding his place on bleu nuit, and not just any as it is kicking this new project off and paving the way for other break & gangster beats.

alpenglühen, the madrid-based monthly nights, focused in ambient techno, emerges in september,2014, inspired by the film -dogville- and the optical phenomenon happening when the last ray of sunshine slowly disappears over the mountains, now, with the moto -exploring the thin line between darkness and light-, alpenglühen, the label, is born, influenced by those sessions. the first installment is produced by the duo, pajaro dune. a young project formed by two well known talented producers from valencia, who gives us a promising kick off release. 4 highly crafted tracks which are somewhere between techno (in its deepest and atmospheric stage), contemporary music and impressionistic electronics. partially inspired on the research by konstantin batygin and michael e. brown on the evidence for a planet the size of uranus between 200 and 1000 au far away from the sun. the titles of the tracks are all but one real objects of our solar system whose movement is theoretically affected by the presence of a distant giant planet yet to be discovered.

commonly found lurking around l.i.e.s., technicolour and w.t. records, florian kupfer has plenty of credentials in the noisier end of the hardware house and techno scene, so it makes perfect sense to find him sidling up to valcron video in collaborative moder with torn hawk. the results are predictably excellent, from the gnarled emotional wrangles of -fake blood to the blown out ambience of hungry for candy. sweet tooth comes on like a dishevelled club workout, and then manipulation rounds the record off with a tongue in cheek spoken word and ambience piece that packs some serious music underneath the irreverent chit chat.

solar phenomena is a brand new label on an exciting astral crusade. the take-off pilot for our virgin mission is none other than decorated polish producer echoplex. one of the country’s first breakthrough international techno artists, his body of work dates back almost 20 years while often taking us 20.000 light years forward. this is no exception.

in 1973, emi records nigeria released the 45 rpm disc fuel for love b/w soundway, credited to a mysterious band called wrinkar experience. the record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the countryÆs nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling nigerian single up until that point. the success of wrinkar experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. but while wrinkar experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the bands frontman danie ian split for a solo career. the remaining principal players in the group cameroonian musicians ginger forcha and edjoo jacques racine tried to keep the wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as rock town express. rock town expresss debut lp funky makossa was recorded in 1974 for arc records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in lagos by english drum legend ginger baker. the album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the wrinkar experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. comb & razor sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of funky makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus i am a natural man and i dont want to know, from wrinkar experiences seldom-heard third and final single.

on this record ben sun presents an old style lp format - 40 minutes of moods and grooves interwoven with an intimate story, of individuals struggling to live freely in a time of oppression. after a sultry jazz opener where the characters are introduced, the lp kicks off with a sweet and slow soul track in work again, underpinned by a rotating acid bass. third comes salty tears, the underground disco floor-filler (original limited 12 version) finding a second home on vinyl. your camera and monday usher in some moody rhythms to complete the first side. sin casa opens the flip with some minor-blues improvisation that gives way to a spacious deep house jam, where the protagonists emerge again. still missing shows deeper shades of a eurobeat style - an emotionally compelling club tune that sounds somewhere on the italo side of 1980s manchester. the story comes to a conclusion with cowardice, and the casual jazz-house sounds of mamans lover. killer album!!
