up next on 20/20 vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving nathan jonson. following a decade of producing and dj ing as hrdvsion, nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. cross colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for. when we heard cross colours we were all in agreement that luke vibert would be the perfect remixer. luckily luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. the b side is rounded off with a club focused version from ralph lawson & rui-z (which has already being championed by seth troxler on his most recent essential mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year.

the practice of pseudoscience, a three track ep by m parent, is the second vinyl release from the us based label chem club records. having been inspired by peripheral thoughts about pseudosciences, this ep is washed in steady emotional build ups using airy reverb, scattering percussion, throbbing stabs and solid kicks. the title track (a1) uses these elements to move towards a piercing synth peak while cycle of intellect (a2) spaces out these features as it creeps to a dubby impactful end. the b side temazcal rites was directly motivated by a scorching summer day when the intensity of the sun sparked an idea for a sizzling percussive experiment. what were left with is a funky but emotive soundscape that tops off the ep in a unique fashion.

the latest release from serbia’s soul print recordings brings together the two l’s, leonid and laak. up first is leonid on the a side with two tracks urania 1 and 2, possibly named after the muse of astronomy, which makes sense, as both tracks have a cosmic feel about them. urania 1 starts off with a nice string sound that permeates the space before the drums start to really take effect half way through. urania 2 has a more house feel about it, with the acid bass line sitting nicely along the deep pads. over to the b side and laak takes control. delving into late night territory with haunting layered leads & pads these tracks are typical quality by laak. featuring label artwork once again by fellow serb, bratislav milenkovic and pressed on a beautiful sky blue, yesterday for tomorrow is a thing of aural and visual beauty.

holic trax off shoot monoklo hits a third firing release now with a new ep from verrina & ventura. verrina & ventura are an italian pair who make fresh house and techno sounds and run the all inn, only 300 and howl labels. they are busy people who put out a lot of music and here serve up some brilliantly unhinged sounds for this darker, more club focussed series. up first, metaluna is a freaky track with shimmering voices and prickly, ticking percussion all underpinned by warm belches of sub-bass. it s a late night cut with plenty of unhinged atmosphere in its glitchy grooves. ork is less kinetic and more settled in a bulky, heavyweight groove. scraping perc and icy hi hats bristle and brim as muted synth stabs bring some colour and soul to the party. the deep and delicious dhrawn has big techno hi hats and more glitching, patchy machine sounds all run through with warming chords. trilling vocals go off in the distance and the whole thing manages to be emotive and human as well as devastatingly direct and dancefloor orientated. last of all, nihil is another visceral track with industrial synths, scurrying bass and sliding drums that makes you want to jerk your body. this is a brilliantly off balance ep full of arresting and inventive grooves aimed squarely at the floor

minimalistic art sublabel, 0000, kicks things off with scribble acid, an ep from man at the top, brayan valenzuela. title track scribble acid is a mixture of acid sounds and saturated kicks combined to create an industrial techno line. 0000 differs, highlighting the simpler sound of acid. error makes use of metallic percussion to devastating effect but is lined with pauses in all the right places to allow you to breathe.

cascades is the music collaboration between two montreal-based musicians, neo-classical pianist jean-michel blais, and genre-defying grammy award-nominated electronic producer mike silver (pka cfcf). building off their sold out performance during the globally-celebrated 2016 red bull music academy, cascades is a stunning 5-song, 30-minute meeting-of-minds that navigates the spaces between the artists’ respective crafts and tendencies toward playful minimalism. featuring new versions from the duo’s catalogues, a reworking of john cage’s “in a landscape”, and a brand new, classical-meets-trance original composition, “hypocrite”, cascades is a celebration of the traditional and experimental, dissolving the old into the new.

two floor-smashing highlights from the gnarliest corner of the spectral sound library get a welcome reissue on the first limited addendum 12” to the dope jams nyc volume 1: 2005-2012 compilation. first up is futuristic acid banger “poison dart” by 2 am/fm, the double-headed beast of ann arbor’s d’marc cantu and james t. cotton. beginning with an eerie synth coiling endlessly around a shuffling, anxious beat, the track unexpectedly blasts off with one of the nastiest acid basslines since “washing machine.” commanding, otherworldly, and freaky to the core. on the flip, cotton flies solo and tosses listeners headfirst into his chaotic and terrifying “bizarre carnival.” pounding kicks, blown-out bass and frenzied synths relentlessly collide with one another, creating an endless nightmare of a world on the verge of machine-induced annihilation.

new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

spatial cues is a series of split singles sounding out main(void)’s and kon janson’s shared musical space. operating out of berlin and london, the two artists join forces to showcase their mutual vision of techno music. cues001 starts off the series with two immersive yet driving tracks, both built upon breathing and soughing atmospheres that wrap themselves around clear-cut, straightforward rhythms. guided by bleepy accents, cues001 a takes you on a stormy 10 minute ride through subtly shifting layers of sound, revealing its hidden depths in two slowly climaxing breaks. steadily evolving towards its floating finale, cues001 b contrasts a mesmerising percussion pattern with a steaming machine sound that loses itself in endless feedback cascades.

after a strong run in the early 00 s, 3am recordings came back into action in 2016 with a various artists release that featured a range of artists closely tied to the label s foundations. now label boss al bradley is stretching his wings with -night owl-, a refined production that demonstrates his experience in the field of tech house. goshawk comes on board for a remix that takes the deep sweeping original and makes it into an effervescent summer time groover, while label regular michael scott nudges -night owl- into stripped down late night territory. the third remix from fourfourfour heads into oddball territory for those who like their house music off kilter and playful.

in its five years dgtl has carved its style and sound worldwide as one of amsterdams staple dance music institutions. this year the organisation is deepening its focus and vision. therefore dgtl is launching its own imprint dgtl records. the label builds on the festivals musical theme of an evocative cross section of the sounds and styles showcasing forward thinking, cutting edge artists. the one to kick off the new imprint will be the bulgarian hardware wizard kink. best known for his live performances, teemed with explosive energy, which for a consecutive year puts him to the no.1 spot of live acts on ra poll, he is also one of houses most in demand producers. kink has worked with dgtl for quite some time, including last years audiovisual installation transmission tower, where the first track neutrino was born. the melodic neutrino , kicks off with syncopating bassline. its interconnecting layers organically jump over and under each other, reflecting the organic character of kinks live performances, where every knob touch and turn matters. on the latter, he built the b-sider dynamo: i loaded my favourite element from neutrino in my computer and i tweaked the sound through various weird devices in my studio, till it sounded like a completely new track. as usual, he added a few endless loops on the record, for the adventurous djs, exclusively for the 12inch. the idea for the dgtl records artwork is to feature a different visual/graphic artist from the dgtl art program every year starting with the cover from tim buiting and his graphical visual of the liege train station, designed by calatrava for this years releases.

next up on tomorrow is now, kid! is an ep from rutilance recordings owner, dj steaw. the french artist crafted four sturdy tracks on this fresh ep. it is a perfect blend between chicago and new york house, with a big splash of acid throughout the disc. the hypnotising percussion and grimy sounds take you to new, unforeseen places. keywords for best describing this 12inch are, beyond any doubt, deep and vigorous. enjoy these four definite killers in the club.

‘mind fiction’, kaczor s first release, comes with organic artwork such as a growing plant cover and simple yet sleek thai design inspired by a recent tour to southeast asia. the ep serves as a perfect example for kaczor s own artistic vision: moody textures and mellower grooves meeting his trademark raw and gritty, forceful attack-laden release of rolling drums, bass and percussion, pointing to kaczor s own roots in the more stormy outbacks of broken beats or uk bass. first track ‘balance’ starts off with a softer, textured soundscape, nicely balancing melancholy synth waves and drum rattles into an atmospheric opener with a slowly oncoming and unfurling, melodic twist. the title track ‘mind fiction’ more closely follows kaczors very own signature formula of a simple and driving bassline followed by an evocative build-up rushing into an emotional, cathartic breakdown. ‘asta’ might be kazcor s most daring and trippy production to date: an intense mixture between hypnotic, hard hitting thumps and thunderous rolling drums taking the listener into the electrifying whirl of a night-time storm, where the tense and dense, humid atmosphere culminates in a monsoon-like rainfall of spiralling reverb – marking a fitting crescendo for this impressive debut on kaczor s now very own sonic ground.

ron trent returns on the music and power imprint with the first lift off on the air (african indigenous rhythms) series to be released on map. both of the tracks the dawn and power movement are cinematically and carefully crafted to blend ethereal melody into strong percussive rhythm.

folamour was responsible for one of the dreamiest, most colourful deep house records of recent times - the brilliant shakkei ep on all city so hopes are naturally high for this excursion on the producer s recently launched fhuo records. he kicks off proceedings with the thrillingly addictive very first touch, where dreamy pads and looped party samples cluster around a snappy, jazz-fuelled house groove, before ratcheting the energy levels up a notch or two via the rubbery slap bass, driving drum machine beats and warm rhodes chords of alerte a babylon. in between, you ll find pravis l estaque, a stomping deep house floor-burner blessed with some seriously good, jammed-out electric piano solos.

the first long-awaited release of champ libre records compiles the tracks of the labels three pioneering artists. since 2015, spun off, 3-pi, and size pier heave been heavily shaping the eclectic character of the most daring parisian dancefloor. their work reflects the crew’s transgressive approaches to techno. it stands for contradictory ideas, open-minded experimentation with sound, art and aesthetics. genese ep highlights each artists intriguing distinctiveness growing from the background of creative chaos.

the underground anthems just keep on coming from seth troxler’s play it say itlabel. next up is assured party starter and snatch! label boss, riva starr. this italian hit maker has long been delivering off-kilter and playful underground house tunes. he does so on his own label as well as cajual and hot creations, always injecting them with plenty of colour and charm, which help them stand out in any set. these latest two offerings are no different, and are sure to blow up dance floors all over the world. first up is the arresting title track, ‘another dimension’, a skewed and sideways house cut with booming bass, bumpy drums and quirky trumpets going off in all directions. it’s a grinding groove that will drill to the heart of any ‘floor and really set it alight. then comes ‘another race’, a much deeper and more direct tune for heads down dancing. it has surging kicks and synths, slinky percussion and an irresistible sense of forward motion that will sweep up all those who hear it. clever filters bring real tension, teasing out plenty of pressure and ensure this one is another modern classic in the making. these are two powerful tracks from riva starr that are sure to make a real impact this spring and mark another standout release from seth troxler’s ever impressive play it say it.

our first normals welcome v/a 12” sees some familiar faces as well as some freshies to hit the label. the a side represents two vancouver, bc based projects: esb and ambien baby (a new collab group from sophie sweetland aka d. tiffany, and daniel rincon). the paronomasiac aka nik kozub, head honcho at nw starts off the b side, with london, uk duo metropolitan soul museum rounding it all off.

hailing from japan, iori wakasa is a name that has been gathering a great deal of hype over the past few years - and with good reason. having built up his skills as a majorly talented dj in tokyo spinning a wide range of sounds and styles, his reputation continues to grow at pace thanks to a string of amazing releases on labels such as highgrade and wirsindeins in recent years - not to mention strong support by some of the scenes biggest names. here he proves what all the fuss is about - a stunning three track ep on steve bugs dessous recordings. be there starts things off right - uber deep vibes throughout, with bubbling synths and spacey effects, all tied together by a hypnotic chandler-esque rhythm track. give me continues the vibe, deep and jazzy chords punctuate the shuffling rhythm and trippy vocal samples add a layer of wonkiness that will see this get a lot of attention. feel it dizzy strips things down a notch, a bass heavy dancefloor filler with dubbed out percussion, effects and vocals snippets. a triumphant ep from iori wakasa - truly one to watch.

after releases from the likes of dakini9, fox and franklin da costa, it was only natural that jersey city-based label green village would turn to dj spider for a new 12 inch. well, it seems natural to us, in any case. the nyc artist is now a respected member of the big apple s contemporary house and techno wave, and it s an absolute must for him to be represented on the city s bubbling scene, especially when he s up for firing off tunes like space jungle and satsang, two mean, clubminded house bangers with a prominent lower-end. divide & conquer turns things darker and more ominous thanks to its icy, minimal approach a cold blend of stripped-back beats and circling bass tones while urantia of nebadon displaces the traditional house framework in favour of a dark, molecular selection of electronic sounds guided by a simple pattern of 4/4 beats. classic spider material

we are proud to announce that andreas tilliander is back on echocord after 15 years. this march sees echocord release the ofog ep comprising three original productions from swedens andreas tilliander. stockholm based andreas tilliander is a name thats been synonymous with the underground electronic music scene for a while now, from his contribution to the glitch genre in the early 1990s through to winning a swedish grammy and producing under various monikers creating a variety of sonic art. this includes his previous echocord released lowfour alias, the raster.noton seminal moikra cliphop album and his more recently explored tm404 project which has seen him release on skudge and kontra-musik. tillianders ofog ep kicks off with an upfront and club leaning track entitled storet, which is driven by deep kicks and crisp hats that both sit tightly at each end of the mix, leaving room for twisted chords and delayed synth swells to fill the gap. next up comes the fine dub-tinged and spacious aesthetic of oliveros, where ethereal textures glide freely alongside the live-sounding tape delayed drums, accompanied by a deep, weaving sub. closing the package is risset, in which a half time bass line chugs alongside vibrantly saturated percussion escorted by dubby chords and glitchy atmospherics.

the totality of the many in one: cologne tape, an on and off gathering band from all over the world, did not call their second album welt without reason. the collective incorporates the nucleus of the label magazine and consists of the artists ada, barnt, jens-uwe beyer, jörg burger, john harten, philipp janzen, mario katz, john stanier and axel willner. all members live scattered between berlin, cologne and hamburg. they meet rarely and abruptly, but each of them always has the feeling that something relevant needs to be done. the ensemble’s name represents a city and the musical recordings that are made in it.their -rst release, -render-, marked the start of the label magazine in 2010 and found the way into dj sets by famed artists like dixon with music, which does not necessarily have the dancefloor in mind. subsequently, little, absolutely sublime pieces of cologne tape appeared in the public.

hazina francia aka petit singe returns to give a sign of what’s to come in the very near future. her transdimentional approach is always prone to punctuate the spiritually intense quality of her taste for melody with heavy barrages of drums organized into hard-hitting grooves. each of the two tracks manages to balance in her world of feral beauty, pummeling the dancefloor while also dragging into psychedelic stupor.

flumo s first vinyl offering for 2017 sees chocky returning with three original signature tracks along with a remix from true craftsman orlando voorn. higher synth, the first cut on the record rolls out the instantly recognizable chocky sound to full effect. looped chords set the rhythm in motion & the vocal sample provides just enough variety within the track to mix things up and keep you moving. orlando voorn s take on higher synth enhances the weight and heaviness of the original, the wooden bass kick and crisp synth layers provide a refreshing satisfying take on things. the flip side contains two tracks, first of which is seek deep, a track that similarly maintains chocky s signature vibe whilst also paying homage to deeper, classic house tracks with a spoken word vocal.. this track was first made available on flumo s unreleased highlights volume 4 compilation, and it now sees an anticipated vinyl release. closing off the package is chocky s brush away, a track delving into the hypnotic sphere, where field-recorded vocals and trumpet lines create a late night groove aimed straight at the dancefloor. chocky returns to the label and he delivers.

jericho one is kicking off 2017 with this new 12inch from artist ken finger, a collaboration between mickey pearce (swamp 81) and brackles.

new uk based imprint aiming to bring you atmospheric and emotional treats that toe the line between bass heavy, electro leaning, house & techno and everything in between. the label’s first outing comes from the duo thread. tabor kicks of the release and it’s a motorik workout that combines elements of minimal techno and acid, with a squelchy bassline and moody synth melodies all carried along by tight percussions. dalling is a straight up electro jam, a galloping start/stop percussive pattern, ever-present pads with more layers of squelch added for maximum effect. on the flip brackenbury picks up a couple of notches on the bpm counter - driving proceedings to 130+, a proper heads down techy number with elements of micro house, filled with quirky sounds and lush pads layered on top of syncopated percussive patterns. the final cut on the ep conningham does away with all pretences and hits you in the face with another dose of unrelenting space music. heavy bass line, crunchy electro percussions and sci-fi atmospheric pads rounding off the first release in style.

madhouse number 2 sees kerri dropping his 4 track panic ep on us, released in 1992 the whole record sounds amazing today - as fresh as ever! driving, funky, stripped back and with that trademark kc drum programming get on up kicks things off with an intoxicating mix of all the above and some loopy, dubbed out sax.. this one is pure heads down late night business! insomnia again utilises some choice samples the eagle eared among you will no doubt spot, paired with epic piano stabs and a cavernous kick-drum, slamming! flip the record over for something wrong , a solid grooving, gospel-esque monster that hits hard, classic! finishing out the ep is the amazing love is over , undoubtedly inspired by the garage and zanzibar with it s nod to some classic cult killer disco jams that form the basis of the track, looping, raw and moving hard, one for the heads! rarely do you get such a well rounded ep of different versatile flavours, exactly the reason why kerri is rightfully a legend in dance music. essential stuff indeed. this is the one of the first of a series of official madhouse / kerri chandler reissues for 2017. every title has been remastered by kerri chandler himself, from all original sources and each reissue has been legitimately released in full conjunction with kerri and madhouse records. and, as if that wasn t enough, all the reissues will be coming in the classic madhouse records house bag. snoozing not advised!
