sentinelas is the first album release on rudimentary records. produced and conceived by irish producer mick “t-woc” donohoe the album is the result of a trip donohoe took to brazil in 2014. built off samples from records bought in a dusty sao paulo warehouse, sentinelas is the unintentional soundtrack to a 1970s brazilian educational comic book, fusing together hip-hop, electronic music, and dub to tell a strange-but-true story of discovery, antibodies, and cockroach shit dust.

in keeping with the labels 303 based theme, things kick off with blue flame, which sees dj overdose delve into serious 4x4 territory with angelic like synth stabs, jackin’ beats and gnarly acid lines. bare bonus bounce is a stripped back version of blue flame that retains the vocal samples, funk and jacking 4x4 beats. the flip side kicks off with acid lovely, a hefty 303 laden electro work out that certainly lives up to its name. the ep finishes off with work is work which retains the vocal samples of blue flame laid out over a raw and gritty electro beat.

cottam s ruff draft label makes a logical move and turns to a long-serving champion of gritty, soul-powered house jams from the tough side. dj nature may have made his name many moons ago, but he proves to be as relevant as ever on this killer two-track release. -alfred- is a tightly wound box jam that manages to maintain tension throughout without needing to pander to the release part of the process, sounding all the more exciting for it. -blood on your hands- meanwhile finds nature heading into the scuffed, soul-sampling territory he s most at home in, and the ensuing rumble of off-key funk is impossible to refute.

rfbcolours 004 is aimed at the dark, jazzy smokey affairs. from the off u can see the imspiration fro the ep title with the a1 track from sombro and embezzlement society capturing a low end, horn sampled groover with rough claps and an undeniable groove. georgi barrel delivers again with something that will warm up the coldest clubs or capyure you on sunset terraces. long island sound hit the pianos hard on the slower paced but equally as grabbing and tense -grit-. label owner jamie trench rounds off with night lanterns which is a track thats been waiting for a space on wax for a good few years now and fits beautifully with the rest of the ep.

hot off collaborations with nottz (titans in the flesh ep) and madlib (bad neighbor lp), socal ambassador blu has teamed up with the paris-based production team union analogtronics (oj & gold) to unleash a new full length album: cheetah in the city. featuring dam-funk, phat kat, frank n dank, and more, the album signifies a stylistic sea change for blu, best known for his dusty, soul sampling collaborations with exile (below the heavens) and his own introspective opuses (her favorite colour, good to be home, york!). rippling with 808s and cinematic strings, cheetah in the city is an organic evolution from the synth-soaked, futuristic sound of analogtronics, union’s 2012 fat beats records debut album featuring talib kweli, mf doom, elzhi, guilty simpson, and more.

moreaboutmusic step up with a various artist series looking back at producers theyve worked with over the last 10 years. the first one kicks off with contributions from deep space orchestra hold me back (paranoid london remix) released back in 2011 and two previously unreleased tracks from the chicago masters mike dunn acid rush under his md iii alias (recorded 89-91) and craig loftis aka grand high priest with activate.

huge remix package with works from thomas hessler, norman nodge, ron albrecht and the automatic message. the label from avion strikes with its 8th installment releasing a kicking remix package from the previous crossing 007 various artists. the release starts with the thomas hessler remix of “sut“ a track from the argentinian producer pfirter. thomas used the outer atmosphere bringing it to an upper tempo defining a groove made for the floors. norman nodge and his minimal trip from avion’s explosive track “thrill“. flimmering noises, a reduced drum and an atmosphere which is between lunatic and melancholic warmth. in ron albrechts remix of doka’s “mural“ the time is still running different, staying surreal wthout losing ist mood kicking off to move the floor. the automatic message lay their hands on stefan rein’s “amorphous material“ and stripped down the punchy and jacking atmosphere to a reduced version without losing its functionality and highlighting the characteristic synth pad to remain the smile factor of the original track.

greek producer markos spanoudakis aka kreon has certainly made an impact on the electronic music scene.his percussive and jazz tipped sound has found its place through solo releases for labels such as cecille, robsoul and many more seminal underground imprints. his latest offering on serialism has been widely received by a small handfull of the scenes elite who have been dropping tracks from the ep all summer hualtor kicks of proceedings with delayed vocal stabs that roll over a 4x4 kick and a doubled up snare. the bass groove cleverly pitches up and down and is completed with a series of shuffled hi hats which complete this minimalistic winner. up next on a2 is forpsyche, which encomopasses a tough and rolling drum selection with swing added for good measure, a sub bass, warm pads and erratic lead stabs bring the all the elements together nicely. third track ‘valtera’ then keeps to kreons signature laid back grooves, shuffling drum licks and the use of processed vocal stabs, the track seamlessly rolls with a series of lo-fi glitches and pitch shifted chord stabs. finally forpyke rounds off the package as it rolls out a sure fire drum selection full of swing and stripped-back percussive hits, repetitive chord textures ebb and flow throughout the composition which results in a truly hypnotic and raw dance floor killer, with intricate percussion patterns that are packed full of swing.

with the opening track -i see you-, silent riders offer up a brilliant pop diamond combining all elements of their distinctive sound palette. lu’s soulful voice bounces off almost funky drum machines, all drenched in layers of dark analog ambience. on the lush -copenhagen dream-, lu channels a sense of brit-pop nonchalance into a political song about the state of her city. in contrast, -being afraid- sees the band in their hardest grittiest mode - with lu reminiscent of pj harvey at her most moody and the slow groove behind her like a factory machine beating and releasing steam. other highlights include the chilling -static- and the ethereal beauty of closing track -falling- which sees the riders in their most relaxed and dreamy state, and echoes the works of portishead and massive attack. a stunning debut - limited vinyl release - don’t miss.

after the release of their collaborative breed ep at the end of last summer, nicole moudaber and skin (from skunk anansie) have unveiled their highly anticipated remix package featuring a long list of respected producers. carl craig, fur coat, jamie jones, jerome sydenham, paco osuna, pan-pot and scuba, are just some of the names which have turned their hand to the project. originally born out of nicole and skin s desire to fuse their rock and techno backgrounds, this is a true collaboration project with a difference. the pair have also recently been sharing the stage at high-profile slots such as space ibiza and coachella. the first track on the second part see s don t talk to me i m dancin remixed by hot creation boss jamie jones, which features a thudding heavy bassline, and zebra katz vocals sampled over the top. the second track on the a side see s french emotive techno specialist paul ritch turns in an atmospheric, driving remix of these walls are made of water . first up on the b side is pan-pot s take on these walls are made of water , adding the duo s characteristic stomping touch, as well as dramatic new synth melodies. this remix is another nicole favourite, often featured in her sets and her in the mood radio shows. rounding off the b side jerome sydenham remixes don t talk to me i m dancin feat. zfk and takes the track into uptempo driving territory.
