at the end of 2013 huxley surprised everyone when he dropped his debut aus ep, inkwell. marking his return to the label, the seasoned remixer and prolific producer is likely to turn more heads again as he announces both his forthcoming ep, the machine, and his debut album, >blurred< slated for an october release on aus
up next for aus is label head will saul. following his vocal heavy collaboration album as close for !k7 last year this 12? sees will venture back to the dance floor for some light relief. with anticipation for the release of his dj-kicks mix in june growing, he lets these two tracks loose to tide listeners over.
jet-setting irish duo bicep return to will sauls aus label with two steady analog techno grooves ready for deployment in either their own wildly celebrated sets or those of any dj looking for modern dance tracks that are still faithful to the classics - this is techno that hasnt forgotten where it came from, essentially.
multi-faceted producer and dj ben westbeech has accomplished something that eludes most artists - after ten years in the industry he successfully stands with one foot in the underground, one in the commercial - and nowhere is this more apparent than on his first release on aus music as breach which sees ben digging deeper than ever before
chris spero has been at the cutting edge of house and techno for many years now, with landmark releases for labels such as planet e and hypercolour as glimpse whilst his recent reinvention as dense & pika(alongside alex jones) for hot flush has seen him capable of hulking, powerful techno that has won him fans from richie hawtin to koze
dont let these carefree techniques fool you, as big on the dancefloor as your headphones everyone from ben sims to deetron to ben pearce has championed his introverted 12inches. providing the sauce on top, redshape remixes the original twice over, with his disco scope and not so serious mix. with a similar attention to drums and raw sounds, the two remixes arm up what is an already strong release.
following on from releases from bristolian pair appleblim (laurie osborne) and komon, and remixes of midlands 2013 standout release, trace, tom demac returns to the aus family fold with lindas theme - an ep brimming with bass-bin bungling energy.
trek 2013 was another exceptional year for will sauls ever-consistent, no-nonsense aus music imprint. as well as records from the increasingly familiar family fold - dusky, bicep, midland, sei a, leon vynehall - a new batch of producers stepped in as the label welcomed debuts from both huxley and glimpse, along with the return of fellow west country resident, komon (kieren lomax)
this release will tip off a successful year, that has new release information seen the young producer tour around america, host his own rinse fm show all while running his ever dependable saints & sonnets imprint.
later on as dusky, the british duo of alfie granger-howell and nick harriman have asserted their position amongst the top producers working in electronic music right now after releases on anjunadeep, naked naked, aus, and its sister label simple.
after previous remixes for sideshow and mymy on aus music in 2009, bristol-based kieren lomax (aka komon) will return to will sauls respected imprint this july with, walk the walk. with his debut lp, released last year on apple pips, komon asserted himself as a producer capable of shapeshifting through a variety of soundscapes.
aus music non-stop. not quite content with already chalking up two of the biggest eps of 2013 so far from midland and dusky, aus return once again with yet another release youve been waiting for - the return of belfasts biggest sons, bicep.
following up his ep >string theory< on simple, julian october smith has teamed up with label head will saul, for >light sleeper<, aus musics final release of 2012. the ep comes with a remix from kompakt boss michael mayer.
following up his well-received 12inch >deep deep down< on aus in late 2011, cottam re-emerges with another striking two-tracker for the label. originally breaking onto the scene in 2009 via a series of anonymous 12inches — three of which were named in phonicas top 50 singles — he eventually unveiled himself as the humble newcomer paul cottam.
after the original george fitzgerald child ep swept dance floors around the world earlier this summer, aus return with a short and sweet set of remixes that pairs two producers who have proved integral to keeping things fresh in a world inundated with mediocre releases!
london-based, belfast-born blogger-production duo matt mcbriar and andy ferguson need little by way of introduction. theyve released one absolutely killer track after another, snaking through everything from deep disco edits to moody two-step to classic new jersey house vibes with incredible ease, on some of the most exciting labels out there: throne of blood, under the shade, domino, love fever and now, aus music
london producer george fitzgerald follows up silhouette, his 2011 debut on will sauls imprint aus music with a four track ep entitled child. with past releases on hotflush and his own imprint, manmakemusic, his productions combine the lush, melodic sides of house and garage with the more intense, jacking rhythms of dubstep and techno. his second ep for aus fully explores the 4/4 end of his production spectrum to devastating effect with four tracks that are all designed with the peak time dance floor in mind. keep your ears peeled for a remix ep of child in september featuring a mix of child by gerd under his jacking geeeman alias, alongside exciting young talent gerry reads interpretation of lights out. next up on aus is an ep from bicep with a remix from panoramabar resident steffi.
PLACEMENT REMIXES EP (LONE REMIX, MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE RMX)
12" Vinyl D14.05.12
hot on the heels of midlands placement ep, aus returns with a remix 12inch featuring lone & motor city drum ensemble. both producers deliver deep, melodic reinterpretations of the originals, with lone accentuating midlands signature sound (whilst flawlessly incorporating his own neon tinged atmospherics) and mcde dubbing out the original, pushing it into throbbing raw cuts territory. both producers are at the top of their game. lone is dominating 2012 with a residency at manchester hot-spot hoya:hoya, a full length dropping in may via r&s that will surely occupy the top of many year end lists, and remixes for radiohead, tensnake & underworld already under his belt. jazz enthusiast motor city drum ensembles sample-based raw cuts series made him a household name within the deep house scene and last years dj-kicks mix set him apart from the pack with its on point mixing and musical diversity. his notable november 2011 boiler room set is considered one of the finest, and is just another example of why mcde has been, and will remain to be, a musical force to be reckoned with. next up on aus will be an ep from bicep & friends with a remix from panoramabar resident steffi.
after his very well recieved through motion ep in 2011 the now londonbased producer returns to aus with the much-anticipated placement ep. staying true to his roots, he delivers four tracks that contribute to the continuing conversation between techno, house, garage and beyond. with a strong focus on intricate detail, lush texture and glacial melody the ep is just as captivating on headphones as it is on the dance floor. the placement ep is currently being remixed by motor city drum ensemble & lone and the fruits of their work will be released as a 12inch single on aus in april so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
whether on his own or with nick hoppner as my my lee jones has been djing and making music for more than a decade. in 2008 jones released his debut full-length lp “electronic frank” on aus music. his solo releases and remixes have appeared on labels such as aus music, ostgut ton, liebe*detail and cityfox and last year, he did his first ever mix cd for the world famous watergate club. next up from the talented producer is a futuristic 4-tracker on aus, incl 2 remixes from george fitzgerald and midland. for the lead track moment, jones offers up a bass driven house number that hints at his jazz roots whilst pushing forward into garage territory. for the remix, george fitzgerald delivers his most straight up, heads down house production to date. next up is duvel, a characteristically quirky jones production, bouncy and deep all at once but with a bass line that will hold its own at peak time. midland steps up for the remix, twisting it into a moody multi-genre convergence like only he can.
breaking onto the scene via a series of anonymous 12inch, it was after garnering reverence as a big name producer in disguise that cottam was unveiled to be the humble newcomer paul cottam. rising through the early rave scene in his hometown of preston, he first cut his teeth as a dj warming up for the likes of surgeon, dave clarke and regis. despite his techno upbringing, it was the slo-mo tempos of mark e and the revenge that inspired cottam to produce his own brand of dusty soul and hip hop-grounded house. however, in april cottam returned to his roots with >sunrise sunset< on use of weapons, sinking a rave core down to his signature slung bpm. it is a journey into sub-aquatic acid house that began with a series of remixes for luv jam, pattern select and morning factory, and one that he continues to explore on his aus music debut. aptly titled >deep deep down< sculpts the feeling of acid techno into warm slo-mo house. ukrainian producer vakula takes the track off on another tangent entirely, stripping away its propulsive chugging heartbeat and replacing it with an off-kilter, spaced-out pulse reminiscent of theo parrish when he s in that kind groove. on the flip, >twang< is a return to cottam s brand of languid, soulful house, steeped with groove destined to incite the dancefloor shuffle.
last year put leeds-based producer midlands (aka harry agius) name on the map with his successful collaboration with hessle audios ramadanman, >your words matter< on aus music. this year, aus label chief will saul has invited midland back to take a solo swing. its an excursion that explores the boundaries of 2-step, uk garage and techno and consists of two original tracks. on the a side >through motion< shows midlands ability to seamlessly take the spirit of uk garage and fuse it with techno. the tracks moody piano melody is punctured by a dark, pitch-shifted vocal and encircled by the warm atmospherics that have become his trademark. on the flip side is >shelter<, a brooding and cavernous affair whose vocals and whispery atmospherics make this the perfect late night tool.
scb is a house/techno project by paul rose, better known as uk bass pioneer and hotflush recordings owner scuba. scb was born in 2008 with a now-seminal rework of >hard boiled< from the first scuba album, a mutual antipathy, and has since developed with two full 12inches and remixes of mount kimbie and phil kieran amongst others. >loss / futureunknown<, on will sauls aus music imprint, is the first original scb material to surface outside of roses own circle of labels. >loss<, with its space melodies and repeating vocal slices, builds and builds into a slice of pure unadulterated dancefloor joy, very much in keeping with the musical territory occupied by aus at the moment. on the flip side, >future unknown<, fills out the atmospherics with dark stabs and driving rhythms which eventually give way to an almost scuba-esque brand of floating euphoria
ninja tune records have kindly allowed aus music to release some of sideshows deep, intensely dubbed-out interpretations of the latest fink album sort of revolution, the critically acclaimed international singer-songwriters third album for the legendary stable. on the vinyl we have the two sideshow rubs of the albums lead singles. sort of dubolution (a dub of the albums title track), comes as a classic sideshow live dub epic, drenched in fink?s signature vocals alongside an earth-moving bass line. follower dub it all (an edit of finkssee it all) is a stabbier, angular take on the original reminiscent of scubas recent late-night masterpieces.
inspired by the stripped back technical set-ups of yesteryear, mike monday and will saul present the sequence 1 ep, the product of the two artists limiting themselves to a roland 909, a korg kaos pad, a dave smith polyevolver and recording their jamming on the fly. >we wanted to inject some excitement, energy and randomness into this release, so decided to play the tracks live with mike on the 909 and keys and will on filters and effects. we had a broad idea of where we were going before we pressed record, and recorded a few takes of each track, then took the best moments from each. the big challenge was reining in the slightly chaotic recordings, but after some tweaking we found a balance between old school rawness and modern production values.<
will sauls aus imprint returns with the lipsmacker ep, a collaboration between bristolbased bass enthusiasts al tourettes and appleblim. continuing aus recent trend of fusing elements of traditional house and techno with the sub frequencies and rhythms of dubstep, the ep comes as a slice of forward thinking electronic music that continues to reinforce the ever-strengthening relationship between the two musical camps
joy orbison has been celebrated for finding a sound that marries elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep. alongside the release of the gargantuan hyph mngo (released on hot flush in late 2009 and has topped the end of year charts across the globe) and material on his own imprint doldrums, notorious mixes for radio 1 have only served to cement joy orbisons renown. both ‘the shrew and ‘so derobe pick up where ‘hyph mngo blasted off… devilishly catchy melodies and basslines, full of feeling and soul, evolve and grow as the arrangement develops to leave you on an almighty high. big drops, super heavy drum programming and grooves that sound like only joy orbison right now. theres shades of garage, shades of funky, shades of old school r&b. pete wears his influences on his sleeve yet re-wraps them in his own unmistakable and truly unique style. actresss neu haus refix is the perfect foil for this package. a raw, almost unconstructed tool that in the right hands will create huge tension on the floor. actress, aka, darren j. cunningham has in the last 5 years of running the werk label set himself apart as one of the hottest a&r scouts within his field, having discovered and released some of the most widely talked about artists of the emerging bass generation, namely disrupt, zomby, lukid and starkey. as actress he produced the exceptional hazyville lp drawing cries for a mercury award nomination. hes remixed the too cool for school various production, written for the seminal techno imprint soma and has recently confirmed an album deal to record on honest jons, the british independent record label created and founded by damon albarn.

having spent the last seven years delivering impressive singles on a variety of labels - most notably aus music, secretsundaze and hype_ltd - ewan smith has decided the time is right to unleash his debut album under the youandewan alias.
martyn needs no introduction and his p-funk inspired melody and bassline provide another entirely fresh take on the deliciously broken rhythms we have come to love from him. we thought it only fitting that we should try and get a different take on lee jones’s ‘aria’ for the project, as it has been the most in demand single from the first 20 releases on aus.
lee jones lived in london until 2002, where he was producing and remixing as the successful downtempo/ nu-jazz artist hefner. after following his heart to berlin, he was inspired by the music and clubs to move into a new production style over the past 6 years. most recently hes become known as the main creative force behind mymy, whose debut album ‘songs for the gentle on playhouse made waves across the globe. since 2007 hes released his beautiful solo works on aus music and just, whilst also collaborating with berlin local hero daniel dreier on releases for upon you and releasing new mymy material on berlins illustrious ostgut ton imprint. having recently returned from the us and japan performing live dates with nick höppner as mymy, he also has a busy djing schedule around europe and continues to promote the popular monthly clubnight at watergate ‘mymy and friends
