erol alkan lights the fire when he first played ross ross ross in his essential mix. this track became a must have. its been almost 6 months. since then, sebastian droped a dozen of remixes. uffie, kelis, daft punk, mylo, editors, kavinsky and more got the sebastian treatment. then he concentrated on his own productions to deliver 2 monsters. the dramatico-cut up beat head/off & the club banger walkman. those tracks have already been tested by the whole ed rec crew. walkman was the pick time of ed banger x vice party at sonar this year. sebastian will release his first album in 2007.

the musical output by amsterdam trio s. m.nurse generated in just three years of activity, 1980 to 1983 is truly amazing by its volume and quality. the thats the body ep is their third release on domestica a selection of previously unknown tracks and unreleased versions on 12inch format, hand picked with one goal in mind: dancing! thats the body (1983) and on and off (1983) are first-ever releases. on side b, there s new versions of mort automatique (1981) and frutta (1982), previously found on the now expensive 30th anniversary: 1980-1983 album, released by domestica in 2013. edition of 450 copies. mastered from the original master tapes by ruud lekx.

dubfire and miss kittin have scored another big hit in the form of their second collaboration ride, the follow-up to the much-loved anthem exit. now, many destroyed dancefloors later and they’re unleashing a big pack of remixes to sit alongside their two original versions. solomun may best known for big melodies and hooks, but his remix boldly displays his affinity for heads down techno. a beast of a track, it centers around ticking percussion and pulsating synth delays with a throbbing low end. minimal in approach, maximal in aesthetic, it’s a no-nonsense groove. matthew dear dons his audion guise to remind us how instrumental he was in formulating that oddball techno sound a decade ago, making good use of the vocals in the heady breakdowns and matching them with unsettlingly wavering synth sirens and an almost tribal bass stomp. it’s full of atmospheric touches and pulls off a big room feel without resorting to cliches. depeche mode, erasure and yazoo legend vince clarke is a personal hero of dubfire’s, making his appearance on this package all the more of a special, rare treat. his chunky house groove is decked out with rolling congas, electro arpeggios and a yearning, bluesy guitar lick. french star djedjotronic has himself remixed depeche mode, and his version rounds off the package with throbbing low end, harrowing synths, techy percussion and brooding reese bass swells. with four very different mixes to choose from, this is an immense package that is set to cause havoc on dancefloors worldwide for some time to come.

embodying a pure devotion to syncopation and dub, and carrying the torch for innovation, collaboration, and bass here in portland, gulls kicks off our new dj music label common language. we sought a record that could bravely blend techno, funk, dub, cumbia, and sound collage into one set of moves. only gulls could fulfill this mission, with bass as the glue in the collage. -eastwood bounce- and -system pools (shock version)- hold down the dub continuum, where -in these times- and -up clean sound- offer syncopated, globally minded un-techno, again run through the gulls dub blender. an endlessly chewy, layered sound is his signature, each track a showcase for contrast between glassy or globular timbres. as one of his few official gulls releases outside of his own label, we are proud to bring this definitive and complete set of tunes in a -something for everyone- 4-song ep format.

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. it’s this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.

lynn williams may not be someone you have heard of but her pedigree is strong. her father was hank ballard (of king and james brown fame) and her mother was 60s miami radio personality and dance group leader vanilla miss boom boom williams. lynn cut 5 excellent 7inches for various henry stone owned miami labels in the 70s here we present her two most collectable. the first it takes two is a smokey deepfunk killer. on the flip dont be surprised is one of miamis best ever deep soul records period, a dark serious ballad pulled off with amazing emotion considering her young years at the time of recording.

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!

ilija rudman struts out once again on his own turf with this latest slab of sizzling discoid delectability, shaping out all manner of warm and fuzzy grooves across varying tempos and intensities. metronomia is a laid back workout, but its the bombastic funk of so much that steals the show on the a-side with its crafty construction and killer bass hooks. hibiscus theatre meanwhile ploughs deeper into the soil with its swirling pads and shimmering percussion lines, and then if you change your mind- rounds the ep off with some exemplary deep house for the more reflective souls to get down to.

ypy is the work of osaka based koshiro hino. having recently released on labels such as nous, his own label birdfriend, and the legendary em records koshiro now presents the 7 track lp 2020 for where to now? records. the lp leads with the slow building, off kilter title track 2020,where flurries of eastern horns skitter beneath evolving layers of wonked yet beautifully balanced percussive movements, coming off like a technoid homage to the fourth world works of eno & hassel. as is the case with much of hinos music, as the piece develops it takes on heavier and heavier modes of experimentation and excitement turbines whirr and fizz alongside layers and layers of percussion, constantly teetering on the edge of no-wave breakdown whilst never losing sight of the rhythmic backbone, recouping from every moment of collapse with total grace.

repress 2017 , following a killer split 12inch w/ djrum for the zenker brothers ilian tape label, new artist struction debuts for r&s newcomer struction joins the r&s family for a titanic ep of dystopian post-rave experimentation - the 4 track release, entitled gefüge, effortlessly crystallises the best parts of r&ss storied musical heritage without coming off like pastiche. from the jacked menace of opener kreen, a dizzying percussive assault of breakbeats and 808 kicks, its clear that struction means business. warrior follows on with deep end breakbeats cut through with melancholic synth washes. the flip side commences with ai, all skittering percussion, swelling distorted pads and relentless kick drum thrum, while dolly rounds out the release in fine style, quickening the pulse with its hypnotic fm bass polyrhythms, scything cymbals and icy strings. with this release struction marks himself as one to watch very closely for the future, as well as once again showing r&ss commitment to nurturing new talent, as well as releasing the best cutting edge electronic music.

mohammed al harbiti, adam stromstedt and flord king s lyssna records is now on its third release, and the label is beginning to pick up jus the right sort of momentum to make a impact on the vast, bottomless pit that is the deep house scene. what you need to be able to do that is plenty of style and a fresh way of constructing 4/4 patterns, something which levi verspeek has clearly nailed on the opening 256. peshka s miracle is also refreshingly off-kilter, meandering its loose drums over a hazy bed of washed-up sonics, while flord king s steff off uses the minimal formula to deliver its mesmerising glow, and adam stromstedts hm 2016 is probably the best example of traditional deep house that we ve heard since the close of that treacherous 2016. quality house escapades.

the reveries begin with a simple electrical hum – a starting signal for the appearance of a vibrant array of sound, shifting before us in seemingly random motion. before we know it, all those pulsating melodies, razor-cut hifi-house beats and drunken robot jazz ensembles start forming into patterns, secretly & perfectly designed by one art alfie. a long time operator in stockholm’s small but insistent underground music scene, oscar wedrén broke through internationally in 2012 with the karlovak project, founded with on-off studio and dj partner rudolf nordström, a.k.a. mr. tophat. the duo’s inexplicably fresh takes on classic dance music tropes is as much a result of a brilliantly odd pairing of personalities as of a defined concept and a precise method in searching for the perfect house groove. while writing reveries of, released early spring 2017 through studio barnhus, art alfie freed himself of all conceptual footholds, delving instead deep into his archives of old and new memories and feels, working with improptu field recordings and emotionally-guided sampling processes. he came back with an intricate and personal debut album and he didn’t lose his groove on the way.

following up the entity crew’s first release comes another residents ep, with two tracks from shai spooner + jordan dessar and a stellar remix from mannheim’s finest, fabe.
staying true to their london-centric sound, tracks -balanced diversity- and -soul dub- are peppered with references to uk garage, breakbeat and house, further helping the young label establish their soundscape.

theo conard, also known as paxton fettel delivers his second lp on greta cottage workshop. entirely produced by mr fettel its an exemplary mix of predominantly instrumental contemporary jazz funk, sometimes featuring the vocal talents of one olivia lincoln.. from the very beginning it is totally and utterly heartfelt - until the floor churning and brazenly life affirming end his emotions are worn firmly on his sleeve. its a serious embodiment of proper fusion and a testament to a phenomenal producer progressively pushing his work in a playful, honest, admirable and honourable way whilst not taking himself too seriously!

next up on deep distance (following the sold-out-in-a-day sula bassana lp) is a fabulous newly expanded first time on vinyl double lp set of colin potter’s seminal 1980 cassette only release “the ghost office”.
the label is gradually working through colin’s revered back catalogue of cassette only releases, with previous titles the scythe and two nights selling out instantly. his run of half of a dozen home recorded, diy / minimal synth cassettes between 1980 and 1982 is rightly granted legendary status, influencing a slew of home produced diy experimental electronic artists and all attaining high collectors prices online for original copies. so these lp sets filled out with all manner of unreleased cuts, demos and excluded tracks truly are a treat.

for our first release of 2017 and number 023 in the fina catalogue, we are super happy to welcome finnish producer saine to the family. saine has been on our hit list for a number of years and we are delighted to finally be releasing his aptly named mint ep saine delivers 3 classy cuts brimming with hip-hop fused, organic house sound that have always grabbed our attention in the past on labels such as sleazy beats, black ops, voyage, odd socks and quartet series. the mint ep continues in the saine vein(see what we did there) with obscure sample wizardry, thumping straight-to-the-bone beats & wavering analogue synth textures which do not disappoint. it is with great pleasure that we kick off 2017 with a bang & present saines mint ep – this ep is a must!

off the back of their first ep release, super fun bumper editions trends, which received support from the likes of xl8r, thump, future classic, and bradley zero, beats of no nation is now gearing up for its second release by the chord memory band. chord memory band is a recent collaboration between michael medlycott (from the band vulture street tape gang) and dom bird (bonn co-founder and member of the live disco 4 piece mitzi). at the end of 2016, michael and dom caught wind of a cave, nestled beneath a sacred mountain, deep in the australian outback. the rumours described a cave filled with nocturnal animals and ancient flora, but more importantly, a stash of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. guided by whispers and caught up in the mystic mystery of it all, the duo set off with a dusty four-track tape recorder in an attempt to capture these mythical cave vibes and place them on a record. michael and dom surfaced several months later, with four recordings and no memory of what had occurred. these recordings became their synergistic third eye ep – an analogue journey into the spiritual world, with one simple message, the answer is inside.

since his massive works on sunday ep from the middle of 2016 archie s star has risen considerably, peaking with his inclusion at no.70 on ra s end of year dj poll. here he steps up for ep duties once more on his spiritual home of fuse london, driven to distraction kicks things off with a bubbling acidic groover while telegram also harnesses the power of the 303 albeit in a more trippier form. channelled rounds things off with an elegantly floated groove, it s melodic elements and aquatic kick heralding the shift in seasons beautifully.

hotflush welcome lara wehbie aka blursome to the ranks with her debut ep “rendition of you”. raised in north carolina and currently residing in brooklyn, wehbie has come a long way since beginning to work on music in 2011 as a way of channeling her diagnosed depression and anxiety. she describes her work as a transitional darkness, something she says defined her sound even before she could manage the software she uses to make it. in her own words, “rendition of you ep signifies major transitions in my life over the past year and how my environment truly played a role in handling situations. it s a testament to how much happier i am now than i used to be. i still struggle but i m truly thankful for the influences i have around me that have made me a better individual and artist.” along the way she has attended the red bull music academy bass camp in 2015, and after an appearance on scuba s 2016 fabric mix, she debuts on the label with an experimental six track ep. side a of -rendition of you- introduces listeners to her experimental use of vocals and heavy percussive influences from the left field genre. side b dives straight into dance floor material with pounding kicks and and interjecting vocals, but then slowly winds down into a more melancholic ending with piercing synths rattling through to the last drop.

optimo music are delighted to present the second full-length from the golden filter, still / alone. after relocating to london and playing shows around europe for a year and a half, self-imposed pariahs penelope trappes and stephen hindman delved into creating a two-sided existential opus by renting out old studio spaces around the uk and using mostly analog 80 s instruments, machines and effects. an album about being in love with pure solitude, when still // alone is separated into two distinct sides, record one, still, is a hypnotic meditation for the nightclub. wavy patterns of sound and light bounce off of penelope’s literary vocal bursts, layered over the ominous deep synths and arpeggiators, held together only by a strict 4/4 beat. the rhythm, ironically forcing the body to move, however internally focused and mindful, still. record two, alone, takes the club offline and into the fringes of raw, odd pop.

opening this essential release is the slow and spaced out groove of replicant v1, with fat synths and dark spacecraft sounds circling you as the drums grow ever bigger. shoulder of orion then drops into a rickety groove with soulful pads stretching off to the horizon as rough drums march below. proving he has real range, motor rotor is a deep and driving track that conveys a real sense of motion as it races along an intergalactic highway, and love on time picks up the pace yet further with twisted synths roaming free above a motorik kick and icy hi hats. last of all for the digital release, replicant v2 is a spacey and dramatic techno effort with widescreen pads and gurgling synths making for a turbulent ride. first vinyl bonus cut hang on is a forceful seven minutes of eerie and cosmic techno that stretches out in all directions as manic melodies rain down from above. lastly, traktion is full of ominous drones, crashing percussion and sombre pads and makes for a dramatic and driving track that is filled with pain

after an ep on creme organization off-shoot jericho one as dj plant texture, dona basile now assumes his dona alias for a new ep on the main label. entitled the v.g.p sessions, it features four new cuts from the italian, with three of them being dj pt mixes. up first is a live cut version of energia , a bristling electro track with globular bass and coarse hits. turbulent but full of synth based serenity, it is a fine start. cigarettes (djpt mix) is rugged and broken, with glossy idm synths and corrugated drums all loosely arranged into something prickly and unsettling. the deads at twelve (djpt mix) then gets even more fucked up, with rusty synths and blown out drums making for a dystopian house groove that will likely soundtrack the apocalypse. last but not least, nr. 13 (djpt mix) mixes up detroit synths, wild acid, heavenly chords and chopped up, buried deep vocal samples into something that will fire every synapse in your body. this is outlier stuff from dona that sounds like little else.

the moment the track between pounds its first kick, you can t help but be immediately sucked in by doc sleeps ear for sophisticated, minimal, beautifully engineered sounds. between is a track that stays on its groove while soft gorgeous pads pass over you like waves, it s the perfect time for patrons of a dingy basement dance floor to connect in the dark. lastly, ampere is a track that lays out a solid techno soundscape that is mixed up at the listeners surprise with heavily reverb’d snare hits and brooding sweeps. on the b side, two remixers bring doc sleep s ep into a different dimension. bottom forty label head nark extracts the gorgeous pads and pulls them to the forefront of between, starting with a long ethereal intro sure to stop and sway any dance floor before continuing into a grimy minimal 303 bass line as the subtle rubs to doc sleep s original sounds lend it an exasperated grinding element. the second remix from bottom forty artist cid & fancy takes ampere into a place of rhythmic organized chaos with synth stabs that shoot off like metal sparks.

matuss returns to her absence seizure imprint february 2017 with ‘seizure no.6, comprising four original compositions from the new york based artist. since launching the absence seizure imprint in 2015 alongside producer friend abe duque, new yorks matuss has carved out an impressive back-catalogue with this new release marking its sixth and previous material garnering the attention of acts like derek plaslaiko, beaner, dj deep, twr72 and norman methner. once again julia matuss, better known as simply matuss, is at the controls to deliver four original compositions, the first of which la folie sees her deliver a haunting slice of tension building techno via throbbing bass, organic percussion hits and subtly evolving distorted rhythms. muirr follows and takes a more reserved strip back approach with swirling bass tones and sparse drums gradually building towards a frenzied fusion of psychedelic synth swells, vocal stabs and acidic hits. opening the flip side of the record is i hate valentines day, a murky five-minute number employing mind-bending low end drones, dynamic off-kilter percussion and sweeping atmospherics before acid slay closes, and as the name would suggest lays focus on tripped-out acid licks alongside chugging bass and minimalistic drums.
