phantasm is a new vinyl label and collaboration between amsterdam s sinchi collective and the much-admired night noise outlet, based in geneva. it kicks off with a strong ep from the soviet union aka richard baldwin, including classy remixes from sinchi themselves and in flagranti. baldwin has a signature style that is cinematic and synth heavy and has been formed over the last decade plus. a fine dj, experienced promoter and self-confessed addict of vintage analogue synthesizers and drum machines, richard pulls his influences from early electronica, 80s film-scores, and shades of techno right up to the present day. this track was first written on a cold evening in december 2010 using a roland tr707 and jx8p synth. after collaborating with his songwriting partner the track was given a haunting vocal and released as the disappearance of becky sharp , while the original remained on baldwin s soundcloud and got id requests from all over the world. 7 years later it comes back to life in the form of its original instrumental, with a 2017 rework, plus remixes by sinchi and in flagranti.

label friend jules heffner is doing his debut on terrace trips. -swamp- kicks off with some jungle sounds and a deep dotted bass line. guy from downstairs (gfd, robsoul) serves a smooth remix with a rolling morphing bass line and some crisp percussion hints. on the b-side -wharf- is with his flurry synths more like a fata morgana tearing you in some wet fantasies. a remix of this one is coming from anatol who just uses some synths from the original and a simple 303 bass line which turns the track in a more minimalistic direction you better use nobite on this one.

nycs evan michael joins the long list of hudd traxx producers and arrives with a bang after previously releasing on the iconic drumpoet community label. duende is a hypntoic keys heavy anthem which kicks things off nicely. pch passing is a straight up house jam with a heads down breakdown, perfect for peak time. machine pepper is a lovely wonky groover and rainmaker finishes off the ep in fine style. a fine additonn to the hudd traxx catalogue before they celebrate their 60th release

syncopated percussion and murky atmospherics form the basis of mutual romance before dicicco introduces an ominous melody to generate the duskiest track on the package. virgo love affair then meanders forward with tight kicks and a hypnotising chord sequence before making way for the deep and scintillating filling pieces. concluding the release, how we live combines organic drums with sweeping effects whilst distorted keys operate throughout.

man power his raw electronic sound, organic flourishes and diverse selection make him a perfect match for dgtl, both on stage as well as on the imprint. next to releasing a steady flow of records on established labels like esp institute, optimo trax, correspondant and hivern discs, man power is running his own shop as well: me me me. this gives him an outlet to release music by both friends and himself. for his release on dgtl records he created a three-track ep called apologue ep, that showcases just two of different sides of his multi-faceted musical scope. the a-side features two firm, acid influenced tracks. the first of these two, the duelist, is an emotive house record, with a soundscape of piano melodies, synths and syncopated percussion laid on top of an acid bassline. el mago del tiempo features heavy hitting kicks combined with a sharp synth pattern. it has a long build up that keeps evolving throughout the entire composition. halfway through, the track breaks in to a raw and fierce rhythm accompanied by yearning, drawn-out synth pads. on the flipside, put your hands on the car (and get ready to die) brings back memories of a long gone past with nods to balearic pop, ebm, and the soundtrack work of stewart copeland, james horner, and jan hammer. this multi layered production has a warm and analogue sounding feel to it that rounds off a 3 dimensional release.

rave or die is delighted to welcome another techno rave pioneer into the fold. neil landstrumm (tresor, peacefrog) has been the key figure of the scottish experimental sound for more than two decades now, multiplying nasty cuts under numerous disguises including die fly die, navario sauro or polaris whilst spearheading future funk on his well known scandinavia records. on rod number nine, neil teams up with edinburg producer and sativae founder dave tarrida to deliver a banging morocco tune made of pumpin basslines and crunching breaks! these guys are no joke when it comes to set fire on the dancefloor. on the flipside, rod mastermind umwelt strikes back with (u=e-rl), an enigmatic equation and most probably the secret formula to smoke warehouses! old schoolish grooves with some extra muscle acid lines fused into heavy kicks turn this mental track a la the mover into an ode to rave music. a perfect combo of 4/4 anthems in their purest and primitive form, a 10inch that melds disparate sounds with scary intends!

for this release metrist delves into a set of carefully constructed and deeply rhythmic but ear-grabbingly idiosyncratic, mixed fidelity dancefloor-geared oddities. the first three tracks are united, in a fashion, by the artist’s skill at programming a series of drum tracks that set a definite tone for the productions. within a quite partisan field of often microscopic generic variety, largely pinned down to the tempo and timbre of electronic drums, here metrist has pursued a tricky-to-define path. the bounce of new jack swing is twisted amongst stripped back polyrhythms, equal parts groove and glitch seasoned by some futuristic acid filters that create a constantly shifting aura of space and textural nuance around the individual drum hits. quite often arrhythmic interjections punctuate these ‘grooves’, be it the sawing bursts of noise and snarled, incoherent vocals on ‘an soaep’, the non-language and playful, bubbling bass surrounding the half time feel of ‘on golden seize’ that builds to something approximating an industrial take on uk funky or the brash sub-wobbles that intrude ‘pantomimer tongue’s juddering knife-scraping-on-a-balloon stutters. ‘caaacel the horze’ closes the record in a less weighty style, with crunchy arpeggios running on a synth that sounds like it’s picking up interference from a radio channel, as snatches of moaned vocals allude to a deeply ambiguous yet chilling narrative behind the music. thudding kicks intrude on the skittish melody but in a non-rhythmic way reminiscent of someone trying desperately to snatch your attention by banging on the adjacent wall. gauzy melodic textures in the background provide a calming counterpoint to the uneasy qualities of the composition

terranova kicks off 2018 with a bang with cosmo ep (kom378).

berlin-based duo ontheground which consists of myztical and diagenetic origin, is about to release “role of the observer”, their follow-up to last year’s debut ep “touching higher ground”. this record is a snapshot of their creative development and hard work which took them at least a year to put together.
the a side takes up where the last year’s ep left off, establishing a template of industrial pummeling techno with a focus on irresistible, broken groove. a1 “the power of prayer” is a powerful banger - droning synths and dislocated samples build up the anticipation, before massive kicks drop and propel the tension onwards. a2 “controlled by faith” is similarly destructive on the dancefloor, a bundle of rasping, dirty rattles that drive on relentlessly in funky delirium.
the b side delves into the darker, more elusive recesses of the duo’s creativity. on b1 “ancient cycles”, distorted rumbles morph over pattering, primordial percussive patterns. b2 “role of the observer” ratchets out a heady mesh of fragmented, disorientating textures over frantic, propulsive beats.

behind the sstrom moniker hides one half of shxcxchcxsh and a long-time activist of sweden s experimental techno scene. having fallen in love with simple melodies and catchy arpeggios when being a member of bitpop/synth band slagsmalsklubben, he transferred these sensibilities further into his other projects. sstrom s excellent 2016 debut for semantica records was an excellent exercise in lush aquatic techno with breezy and lush atmospheres. the new ep -vitriol- is informed by the personal experience of the producer, which adds additional warmth and emotional weight to the record. the release brings back memories of earth pigments his father used when painting things in their house, the colours created were usually dark toned with some pastel lightness. this juxtaposition is felt throughout the record, which balances between cinematic futurist moods, steel-wool smoothness and subtle physicality due to its textured nature. the title track kicks-off with detroitish synth loops wrapped in dense lo-fi soundscapes, while -sienna- increases the tension by introducing more expansive melodic appeal intertwined with intensity of feather-like 4/4 rhythmics. -umbra- brings some shadowy sonic undertones immersed into a sea of crackle with melodies constantly resurfacing. the closing -ockra- bursts with more groovy patterns, yet retaining the same elegant warmth, which seems to be the signature element of this ep. while listening to all these tracks you feel like touching some alien surfaces with utmost sensitiveness with surreal landscapes stretching out in your imagination. this is carefully crafted introvert music, yet having some elegant dancefloor appeal.

dj koyote has long been a dab hand at discerning house music. thankfully, his latest offers more of the same. seeing the light of day on his own supergenius records imprint, france n trance sees the french producer perk up with no less than five original cuts, each of which boasts its own inimitable charm. opening up the release is the sounds of the title track. a melancholy effort full of warm, hazy vibes, its skipping, playful ethos is characterised by its twinkling, charming melodies. a smile-inducing track that s sure to prompt delirium on the floor, it gets us underway with some distinction. hey baby sees the producer opt for more uptempo strands. featuring a killer hip hop vocal sample and a series of off-kilter elements, it s a completely different proposition to what s come before - albeit one that emphasises the producer s knack for the unpredictable. just a young thing sees the producer hark bark to vintage chicago times with a jam that could well have been lifted from trax s back catalogue. full of booming kicks, claps and snares, this one plays out like a modern interpretation of a classic armando joint. the quite expertly names ladonna is an exercise is peak-time funk flavours, before business class sees us out the door with another track that suited to the night s most fervent moments. an industrial-tinged track of techno persuasions, it s a hot and heaving effort that s as likely to leave you in a cold sweat as it is reaching for the lasers. there s no doubt about it - koyote s latest is a triumph from the beginning to the end.

uun returns to his imprint ego death with an ep that showcases his progression in both sound design and atmosphere. the a side kicks things off with on the concept of irony, a broken beat assault which serves as a mission statement with its scattered snares and vocal samples. the tangled web continues this mood but with a more intense structure, heavy on hypnotic synths that weave in and out of the tracks percussive framework. where as the a side is the logical extension of the first three ego death releases, the b side serves to showcase a deeper atmosphere while maintaining uuns preference for dense arrangements. the other features a haunting ethereal pad that floats above a broken kick pattern and a bed of clicks, pops, and field recordings. the closing track, absurd existence, forges all the elements of the artist s sound into perhaps his most melodic work to date. it is therefore senseless to think of complaining since nothing foreign has decided what we feel, what we live, or what we are. jean-paul sartre

rekids launch re-issue label entitled r-time records with four timeless tracks from sir lord comixx. having established a handful of renowned imprints such as rekids, pyramids of mars, cabin fever and the double r, matt edwards new venture aims to shine a light on classic tracks that didn t always get the recognition they deserve. amoon sir lord comixx and i go back a long way and we met through our friend justin isonoe in the early 90s,” says matt edwards. “i was still living in catford and would regularly drive over to justin s studio where he d play me all this crazy, otherworldly music from amoon and it blew my mind i was completely captivated by his unique take on techno. at the time i had no idea that we grew up in the same neighbourhood and amoon was living just around the corner so, of course, we hooked up and in 1996 i released an ep from him including one of his classics ur my omen on my hard up label.” composed of four tracks from separate releases, retroactive (part one) inaugurates with 1 4 the groove from sir lord comixx s danceteria ep on ugly music. produced in 96, the track s raw aesthetic features sharp percussion, heady melodies and a compelling groove. meanwhile, enemax - which appeared on 1a records demonstrates throbbing synths and shuffling drums. originally produced under his a.moon moniker in 98, funk box is the most robust track on the package with its thudding kicks and assortment of meandering sounds, before the azid jazz provides a deep and funky finale.

nicholas returns to church with a six track mini lp. correspondant welcome berlin duo hinode having established themselves with a string of well received cuts on their own science fiction imprint, they were spotted by chance by label boss jennifer cardini on a recent record-shopping jaunt. with a raw, no-rules sense of machine funk running through everything they create, they’re the perfect match for correspondant and make their label debut with four numerical delights. i lights the analog fire with raw sleaze and off-beat mischief. unkempt and wily, it sets the tone for the entire ep: ii writhes snake-like with its slinky kicks and purring textures, iii slurs with bass groans and shakes with paranoid, alien melodies while iv closes with much more of a tunnelling, sense-blurring experience. total machine harmony, unbounded synthetic creativity, made to mix and wholly outer-planetary. hinode and correspondant are a match made in the stars.

amsterdam label taped artifact has lined up an ep from merv aka brian oldenborg and jan christiansen. after the re-melted reissue on styrax in 2015, this is the pairs third new ep in three years since coming back after first making music back in the mid nineties. their warm dub and techno style is still very much fresh and arresting. blueprint opens the ep with eight enthralling minutes of percolating drums and shuffling hi hats. frosty yet warm, it’s a cavernous affair with a hypnotic riffs sucking you in over and over. shine is more upright techno, but the rock solid kicks are still draped with rippling, static coated chords that ripple out in all directions. rotundum closes things out with synth waves gently breaking over hunched drums that build the pressure. it’s tense and engaging while remaining thoroughly atmospheric.

cin cin, the label from fort romeau and ali tillett present their first release of 2018 and the 10th in the catalogue so far. lauer starts the year off on the right foot with two prime time slices of that signature lauer power™? sound he’s known for from his releases on running back, permanent vacation and as one half of tuff city kids with gerd janson. on the flip the golden filter follow up an excellent long player on optimo music with 2 deep technoid excursions. “blackspray” pairs whispered vocals with warehouse shaking kicks while “aya” injects a little slinkiness into the proceedings. sure to be enjoyed by discerning disk jockeys of all stripes the world over!

electronic emergencies kicks off 2018 with its 20th release. on the kosmostrator on venus ep, bosnian dj and producer borgie has rocketed himself into deep, deep space, far beyond planet italo. the sound of the four tracks on borgie s second ep for electronic emergencies is deep, has dark edges and is extremely danceable. ruud lekx did a brilliant mastering job and meinhard spoor designed the extraordinary cover.

bryan hervieu s d3 elements makes a welcome return to the music fold after a longish break, and who better to pick up the reins than trinidadian deep. northern li kicks things off, and from the first note and beat, you just know that trini has brought the spiritual and percussive deepness that he is known for. this track is 6 minutes of bliss, with swirling pads and beautiful melodies running throughout. over to the b side and it s thunder claps and the spoken word of liza zayas that starts off in the beginning. liza s voice sits perfectly alongside the caribbean textures, and the driving drums that trinidadian deep is known for. bryan s labels have long been a go to for lovers of quality and sophistication and this new one is no different.

seth troxler’s always dynamite play it say it label kicks off 2018 with a thrilling three track ep from heartthrob. jesse siminski aka heartthrob has long been an essential voice in the global techno conversation. from early eps and lps on the influential minus label via a trio of releases on his own isnisnt, he has explored every facet of house and techno in great detail. always conjuring up bold melodies and slick arrangements, this is his first solo outing in a few years and marks a very welcome return.

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

my rules storms into 2018 with the raw machine music project happy family from eric duncan and justin van der volgen. a side downtown wedgeee kicks off with twisted acid lines and drunken arpeggios which build and build until completely going off the rails, then finishing with ethereal pads and metallic percussion. b side bad monks ups the tempo and goes even further into woozy psychedelic territory with thick dizzying drones and a smeared pounding analogue rhythm.

reissue of the much sought after hotbath edit series from crazy p. hotbath edits vol.1 kicks off with a rather tasty re-work of a familiar nyc disco record which uses only the beat and vocal of the original with some very tasty musical elements added. backing that up is the equally juicy edit which works that groove and takes it straight to the dancefloor. changing tack for the flip we have a re-work with original elements of the acoustic guitar and the vocals are bolstered with live beats, bass, strings and brass to give a truly uplifting mix. finally look out for the curveball edit of a certain neptunes penned pop hit to round off this killer package!

joran van pol is back on minus with edge, a fantastic four track ep that is his first on the label since 2013. in the years since, the amsterdam based artist has set up his own fade label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. previously, van pol has also released on labels like rejected, sci+tec and ideal audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. as a dj he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from space ibiza to time warp all behind him. having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. ‘illos opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. next comes title track ‘edge, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. its a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. the perfectly high pressure ‘return is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. a dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brainmelting bit of futuristic techno. last but not least, ‘frostbite is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. it has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. its an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. these are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scenes brightest stars.

first track spy vs spy opens things with shuffling drum loops and eerie synth details that hypnotises over seven minutes. atomsmasha has wooden hits and rough shakers peppering a soft, imperfect groove as awkward chords bring an unhinged edge to the mix. on the flip, summer breeze & brotherhood has loose keys doing an off kilter dance over stl’s trademark low-key drums where freebird zones you out with long held chords and detuned keys as cloudy, dusty kicks bring a barely-there groove deep down low. you know what to get from stl by now, but at the same time you can never get enough.

contemporary producer e. myers has self released four limited edition white label 12?s since 2015, whilst managing to remain low profile. whoever they are, we guess they?re huge fans of late 1980s chicago house, shep pettibone, colourbox and most of our reissues. so much that they asked us to re-release their second 12? ?hate / love? from 2016 backed with new remix of ?hate? made for dark entries. ?love? kicks off the a-side ?beats out a wood-cut tattoo of tuff drums rubbed with balloon-squeak synths to sound like gesloten cirkel meets helena hauff,? said boomkat. ?hate? is a dreamy house number that ultilzes a roland tr-707 drum machine with a rounded bassline, horns and strings that lift it into the stratosphere. for the new remix of ?hate? myers subtly shifts the pace and deepens the groove, stretching out the song to over 7 minutes of dubbed out new beat phantasia. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the 12? is housed in a die cut disco jacket that features an original design by eloise leigh.

anagram label follow up their phasing faces releases with remixes from efdemin, lapien, ryan james ford and terrence dixon under his population one moniker this december. released earlier this year, phasing faces was a two-part series featuring anetha, elad magdasi, mathame and maukook, not to mention label founders sinfol and octual. anagram have now tapped up four reputable names for a heavyweight remix package, dial regular efdemin, fast rising mdr and answer code request act ryan james ford, dutch producer lapien aka one half of delsins artefakt, as well as renowned detroit artist terrence dixon appearing as population one. ostgut tons efdemin opens the package with his immersive remix of sinfol trembling, incorporating pulsating drones, echoing effects and ethereal synths. anethas acid train then gets reimagined by shut founder ryan james ford - the canadian combines thudding kicks with mesmerising atmospherics as metallic percussion skips throughout. adding further depth to the release, rekids and mistress recordings artist lapien remixes elad magdasi two floors to generate a smooth aesthetic complete with serene nuances and soulful vocal coos before rush hour and metroplexs population one ties everything together with a deep house reinterpretation of octual dark sky.

7th storey projects is pleased to welcome back the myor massiv head honcho for his 3rd release on our label. earlier this year, coco bryce travelled to tokyo and osaka for a small series of gigs. thoroughly impressed by his experiences there, upon returning home, he immediately took to crafting a slew of jungle and hip hop tracks, heavily influenced by everything he d seen, heard, felt and tasted in the land of the rising sun. the ep kicks off with its title track, ayakashi. dark, fierce and mysterious like the mythical creatures it was named after, it builds up slowly, utilizing a combination of chopped up japanese percussion, haunting flutes and hot pants breaks, before switching to full on amen assault mode halfway through the tune. shinjuku is one of tokyos most well known wards, and also the place where coco found the records from which the samples were sourced to construct this number: a turntablism beat/scratch album, and a compilation of traditional work songs, this particular one originating from the gold mines of the island of hokkaido. on the b1 track, kaguya, he takes a more gentle approach: sweet, yet melancholic, like the miyazaki movie of the same name. the ep is rounded off with hotaru, which borrows from an entirely different source of inspiration, namely dj krush s abstract take on boom bap hip hop. shards of mid-90s mo wax are blended with anime samples, making for a solid two and a half minutes of golden era-esque head nodding.

russian producer nocow debuts on rekids with five murky tracks this december. based in st. petersburg, nocow is undoubtedly one of russian electronic musics most remarkable protagonists having released on clone, figure, fauxpas musik, gost zvuk and styrax. recognised for maintaining consistency whilst traversing various sub-genres, nocow is as comfortable producing intricate idm and robust techno as he is calm ambient and melancholic electronica. in soul connection a spoken word vocal mutters over metallic percussion and ominous stabs whilst a dense pad washes over everything. an undulating synth and ethereal effects make up disappear before moving onto syncopated drums and shadowy atmospherics in samaya dolgaya noch. next up, stop is comprised of mesmerising melodies, sturdy kicks and a looped vox until nocow concludes the package with a short 2-step cut titled aesthetic mind.
